Photo refused to download to desktop

The only photo I can put on my desktop is the last photo added to my library. Some photos (seem to be old ones) can't be drag to desktop (have 'stop' sign) vs the green plus sign for the ones I can transfer to the desktop. What can I do? Thanks, Ruty

What I suggested was
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). *A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?*
But that didn't happen, did it? And that's why iPhoto cannot export to the Desktop. Because it cannot find the file you're trying to export.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photo downloaded to desktop

This is a really stupid question.
I have a photo that's downloaded to my desktop. I know for a fact that I didn't download it. The other user claims they didn't download anything either. It's definitely nothing from my digital camera or an email attachment.
Is this even possible to get a photo on the desktop that neither of us downloaded or is someone not telling the truth?

Is this even possible to get a photo on the desktop that neither of us downloaded
No, it must have been downloaded, or otherwise copied there.
or is someone not telling the truth?
Not necessarily. For example, if someone was sent a pic via email that was accessed via webmail (e.g. Hotmail) in Safari, and the user clicked on the pic to view it "full size" (versus the scaled down version shown within the email), the image would be downloaded to the desktop (and opened in Preview). So, the downloading may not have been done intentionally...but the viewing was intentional (i.e. required a click on the image).
    Hope this helps...

how do I download photos from icloud to my desktop?

You can import them to iPhoto using your usb cable as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  Or, you can set up iCloud and enable photo stream and stream them to your Mac as esplained here: https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ (requires iPhoto '11 9.2.2 or higher or Aperture 3.2.2 or higher).

  • How to download photos from Lightroom cloud to desktop

Hi - I see there is already a thread with this same subject, but the context is very different.  In the other thread the poster asked about recovering photos due to a lost device.  I didn't want to hijack that thread, so here goes...
I am trying out the LR Mobile feature in LR 5.7.  I have a few Collections synced so I can see them on my iDevices, and via the lightroom.adobe.com site.  Sometimes when I'm at a different computer in another location, I'd like to be able to download a photo from lightroom.adobe.com to that computer so I can share it locally in that environment.  This doesn't seem to be possible now.  Am I missing something?  or maybe this will be considered for a future enhancement?
    Thanks in advance!

OK, then get Lightroom installed on your computer, log in to LrMobile, and the photos should appear in LR. From there, make a backup copy of them.
When you get a replacement device and sign into LrMobile, the photos may automatically download onto it. I say "may" because I only have one iOS device and am not sure. But if I am wrong about that, in any case you would be able to sync them from the copies on your computer.

  • All my i photo pictures are on my desktop, now my computer is extremely slow

ll my i photo pictures are on my desktop, now my computer is extremely slow

    No surprise there!
You iPhoto Library belongs in your Pictures folder.
Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

  • How do i put a photo file folder on my desktop so that I may use it for an outside lab to print glclee? to upload photos to a photo lab

how do i put a photo file folder on my desktop so that I may upload photos to an outside lab to print glclee? I have already selected the 20 photos to print but I keep getting the whole file and need to reselect from the 8,000. photos. There must be an easier way!

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Photos did not download and I deleted them from memory card. how to recover?

Photos did not download to computer.  I deleted them from memory card.  Is there a way to retrieve them from memory card.

If all you did was delete them it should be relatively easy to recover them BUT don't use the card until you've done it. Even after a format it's fairly easy but not after re use because you write over them. For more help read the replies here.

You will need a card reader because I don't think it can be done in camera using the usb cable.

  • Downloads and Desktop no longer exist on my Macbook Air

    Hello -
I am at a loss as to the issues I have been facing on my Macbook Air - OSX 10.9.5.  I have been experiencing a slew of issues, which I think may be symptomatic of something larger...  Here are a list of issues I have found so far:
    1. I have no downloads folder.  Under Finder, there is an icon for Downloads and Desktop but they are not folders and when I doubleclick on them, I get a popup that says "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Downloads” can’t be found."  Same thing with Desktop.
    2. I cannot save anything to my desktop.  The error reads "You do not have permissions to save files where screenshots (or whatever file) is saved."
    3. I cannot download files.  I really need to launch and download GoToMeeting, but each time I try, it gives me the error "Unarchive File has Failed."
    4. I don't have Flash capabilities, even though I do have flash on my laptop.
I have talked with Apple Tech Help 2xs - they advised me to reinstall OSX. I did that, this did not solve the problem.  I then erased my disk utility, after backing up, and reinstalled OSX.  Still, no resolution to my problems.
Any ideas on what could be happening?
    Thanks so very much,
      Bea

You sync with the computer again using iTunes but using the instructions quoted below from https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201313
To delete synced photos and videos from your device
In iTunes, click the Device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper-right corner first.)
Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
Note: To delete all synced photos, deselect "Sync Photos from" and, when asked, click "Remove photos."
    Click Apply.
