Photo resize

Can you take an 8 mp photo down to 4 mp?

Hi Sheriff01,
Did you give Image Size a try? It is available from the '&' menu while in the image editor.
Alternatively you may want to go to Settings > Image Import and limit the Max. Import Resolution to 4 megapixel prior to creating a new project from the image.
Thanks!

  • IOS 8 RAW Support - Photos Resized

Can anyone else confirm this possible bug?
Importing JPG+RAW files using the Camera Connector on iOS 8 resizes the RAW files to the exact same file size as the JPG.
This ends up being about a 50% reduction in RAW file size.
At this point I have no idea how the photos are affected - they look similar in the Photos App, however when transferred to a network drive they are clearly reduced in size.
    Anyone else seeing this?

Can't seem to delete or edit my previous response, so just disregard it. After further investigation, the following is more accurate.
I am experiencing exactly the same thing, which leads me to suspect you are also exporting files to Dropbox using PhotosInfoPro. iOS 8 has broken this app, and several others, where RAW+jpg bundles are concerned. When exported, the RAW+jpg bundle winds up the same size as the jpg alone because IT IS the jpg alone (albeit with a different file extension). The RAW sensor data just ain't there. So all those "RAW" files you have been backing up to Dropbox since the advent of iOS 8 aren't RAW files at all. They're just jpegs in disguise. I just figured this out today (via experiments too lengthy to detail here) and I'm ready to throttle someone. Many of my RAW images, which I deleted from the camera cards and from my iPad because I thought they were safely stored in Dropbox, are now simply gone.
The good news - if there is any good news at all in this mess - is that the RAW data is actually still there in the RAW+jpg files you still have in the Photo app on your iPad. iOS broke both PhotosInfoPro and Photogene, but PhotoRaw is still able to read and decode the RAW data. So it's definitely there. But trying to transfer it to cloud backup buggers it. I've tried several methods with both Dropbox and Google Drive. Export a RAW+jpg pair to the cloud and import it back to the iPad, and PhotoRaw can't deal with it. It doesn't even recognize it as either a RAW file or a jpg.
Bottom line? It's totally hosed up. Just another thing that was working fine that iOS 8 has now broken.

  • Photo resize in photo stream

I have tons of photos import to  my iMac and it automatically upload to  cloud to become photo stream.
I saw the photos in photo stream in my Mac shows resolution in 3872X2592.
But after my ipad 2 completely downloaded all the photos in photostream, they are all resized to  2294X1536.
Is that noraml? Cause I thought the photo stream is uploading the original importing image to the cloud.
Is there any setting I need to set or it would resize eventually?
    Thanks for helping.

    Thanks for answering.
Cause I have some photos want to do some post processing in ipad via some tools like snapspeed.
It happended to be the recently imported photos. So my work flow  is to get the photo from photostream in ipad.
After finishing post processing, it automatically creates a new  photo in photostream (which I love that).
And I can easily get the photo in  my iMac via photo stream.
That's why I found the resolution changed, cause at first I even want to replace my original one.
So I think if I want preserver the resolution, maybe I can use your way.
    Thanks agiain.

  • Mail's photo resizing doesn't work

Choosing Small, Normal or Big all makes the photos tiny in Mail.app 7.0 on Mavericks 10.9. Is this a bug or just my system?
    Thanks.

Answering myself. Mail seems not to like a DPI of 300, I changed the DPI of the images to 72, and they all seemed to resize properly. Annoying bug, Apple don't seem to care about it, so that seems to be a viable workaround.
    Open all images in preview
Select all images in the sidebar
    Tools > Adjust Size...
Enter 72 in the resolution box keeping as pixels/inch
Seemed to work for me, may ruin your original image quality a bit, so you may want to duplicate them before doing it then delete the duplicates after dragging to the email so your originals are unaffected. SO so so annoying Apple. Sort it out...

  • Interactive Photo Resizing/Cropping/Scaling

When I drop a jpg file into an interactive widget, the cropping and proportional controls seem to be limited. The canvas is clipped automatically and the left portion of the image is inaccessible when resizing the picture box. Am I doing something wrong? And when we drop a portrait-oriented, or vertical, photo in place it is cropped square automatically. Does anyone know how to have more control over resizing/cropping, or at least be able to use the parts of the image you want and not have them cropped automatically.
The mask function does not appear to be present in the interactive widget, or at least I am not finding out how to do it.

Exporting as a JPG will normally result in a decrease in FILE size, but not a reduction in IMAGE size. So, this is perfectly normal, and I don't see this as unusual or worrisome.
Furthermore, you are looking at the wrong measure. FILE size and megabytes tells you nothing, and will mislead you. Thus, I suggest to you that the comparison of going from 5.7 megabytes to 622 kilobytes is completely meaningless and useless. The IMAGE size, measured in megapixels, (or equivalently dimensions width x height) is what you need to be paying attention to. If you want to print at 8x10, and you use the "usual" level of quality of 300 pixels per inch, then you need 2400x3000 pixels (or more) in your exported photo. But you don't tell us what the IMAGE size is.

  • Where is the Basic photo resize in iPhoto feature

Recently, I found a feature that let me resize photos in Iphoto to various preset sizes and easially export them to my desktop or wherever.  The sizes were real baisc, 2 x3  4 x 6  8 x 10 etc but using the custom feature I could resize them perfectly for web photo requirements on Fiverr.
It seemed the setting was on the right margin in Iphoto to resize the images and I did about 8 of them.  ...Now I cannot find that feature-
Can anyone help me locate it in Iphoto?
    Many thanks-

In the Edit mode is the option to crop the photos to the various size ratios:

  • Enhancement Please! iWeb and Photo resizing

    Hey all
I take loads of photos @ 7Megapixels which results in large file sizes. Fantastic when I want to blow them up. But to drop publish them onto iWeb it copys the graphic/photo rather than asking if you wish to resize or lower the quailty. As we know the same image will look great with a much higher compression rate when viewed.
any views on this as I think it would be a great enhacement!
    Cheers
    Carl

In which templates and in what situations are you seeing this happen? I certainly don't experience the same thing. For example, I have four photo pages on a site on which I've been playing around with iWeb [link to the photo 'menu' page here: <http://web.mac.com/curlytool/iWeb/iWebTryout/Photos.html>].
Comparing file sizes between originals and published versions for one of these pages I see that the largest of my originals is 1.4 MB @ 1,464 x 1,054 pixels. This has been converted to PNG and reduced to 180 KB @ 700 x 120 for use in the page header, and (still as a JPG this time) to 156 KB @ 800 x 576 for display when its thumbnail is clicked and in the slideshow. This applies both when I publish to .Mac and to a local folder.
Resizing of this nature is standard in my experience with iWeb. With photo albums in particular, images are changed to a maximum height of 800 pixels to suit the requirements of the new slideshow. I have to say, however, that my experience is limited to the Modern template. Perhaps the situation is different with others.

  • Photo resizing and publishing

I think I know the answer but want to be sure. If I drag a photo file to a page and publish it is automatically resized correct? I just don't mean just in dimensions but also as to file size and resolution. I have many files that are large tiff files at 240 ppi. Also, can RAW files be published?
    Thanks,
    BB

Why ask when one can test it :
    http://www.glasslantern.com/RAWpository/
I downloaded a Canon CRW file.
Safari adds the tiff extension. Remove it after download.
Drop the huge file on iWeb.
Resize it to fit the canvas.
    Publish.
    iWeb makes a JPEG.
    Nurse, who's next?

  • Drop Zone photo resize

I'm trying to create my first project in iDVD 7.0.4.
When I drop photo into drop zone, it get enlarged so much, that only a small part of it is visible.
I was not able to find neither a trick nor help how to resize it (shifting it or exporting it from iPhoto into JPG does not help).
Thanks in advance for any hint

I use Adobe PS to re-size images but most graphics apps will also work (including iPhoto).

  • Does anyone else with iOS7 have trouble with Wallpaper photo resizing in iphone5?

After updating to iOS7 I am no liner able to resize/scale photos to use as a wallpaper. Is there a fix to this?

My wallpaper photo on my iPhone 5 is now wider and shorter.  My kids faces are cut off on each side, and the top part of the screen is just black.  The row of top icons have black behind them, the wallpaper reminds me of watching flatscreen digital on an old CRT TV.  I could not fix it under wallpaper and I no longer have that photo in my photos so I can't try to resize it under photos to re-wallpaper it.  I'm hoping I don't have to choose a different photo.  (I wish it would automatically save the wallpaper and all contact photos somewhere to access them for printing or resizing or whatever in the future.)  Other than the size change it made to my wallpaper photo, I love iOS7!

  • Scrapbooker wants to turn off PSE12 automatic photo resizing

I am creating pages where I add elements and they are all resizing to clip to the page size.  Very annoying.  Can this be turned off?
    Thank you.

If you're dragging images from the Photo Bin to a composite then PSE12 has introduced a 'feature/bug' whereby it will resize to the smallest dimension of the composite.
    There are several workarounds
Arrange your windows so that you can see the source and the composite. Drag the layer from the source onto the composite. This will add the image without resizing.
Ctrl-A (Select All), Ctrl-C (Copy) from the source then Ctrl-V (Paste) into the Composite.
Drag the source image from the Editor window to the composite image in the Photo Bin.
All these workarounds will create the image, without resizing, on its own layer. Barbara's comments about resolution are still applicable.

  • Photo resizing

I can resize photos by exporting, but when I import them into an application like Flash, they appear pixelated. What software can downsize a photo without sacrificing as much quality?

    Hello bcapone
your resized photo will appear pixelated because its no longer the original. the only suggestion i can offer at this time is before importing back into an application like flash resize the photo first. nikon downsizes the jpegs shot in its compact cameras so when you increase its size, say 4x there is no pixelation visible.

  • Photo resizing editing app

I'd like to resize photos directly on my iPad. I want to make them smaller and be able to see the dimensions in kb and mb. What's the best app for me?
    Thanks

You can downsize your pictures just from your photoalbum. Ore download the photoshop app (free). If you want to downsize regular you should consider an other camera app, which creates 'smaller' pics.

  • Photo Resizer

Today my wife gave me the task of resizing a couple of photos. One of the requirements was to resize the longest edge to 1920 pixels.
I have spent some time hunting for a program within OSX or iPhoto that would do the job. iPhoto does have a rudimentary resizer (large, medium, small) but I have not found a way be resize a photo to a specific size.
Any ideas? I do know that Windows has a built-in resizer that would work. But, I'm trying to continue my complete migration to the Mac (3 months now.)

  • Why are some of my iphone photos resizing when i import them to iphoto?

although most of the photos from my iphone import to iphoto at 2592 x 1936 for a regular iphone photo and 1936 x 1936 for an instagram photo, for some unbeknowst reason, some of the pictures come out as 640 x 480 / 480 x 480... i have no idea why, i haven't done anything different as far as i know?
anyone have any idea what causes it and how i can stop it? also is there any way to get them back to the proper size because i usually delete the pictures straight off my phone once i've imported them.
    thanks x

Not positive what is causing this but I'm pretty sure it is not caused by the iPhoto import process. The import process from a digital camera, camera storage card, or from an iPhone or iOS device does not change the size/dimension/resolution of photos being imported.

  • Photo resizing question

Hello, I'm using Lightroom 5 and have a question regarding the file size.  A photo I took with a Nikon D90 was downloaded and is 5.7 mb, I processed it and some cropping and color corrections came out amazing, my question is this.  The corrected size has been downloaded to a file but reduced to 622 kb, quite a bit smaller than the original.  Was this done by an automatic setting?  I'm asking because the corrected version is scheduled to be sent to a printer who is going to make some 8X10 color handout cards (the photo is of a race car) for the public and I was concerned that the quality might be different as the re-sizing.  I've not heard back from the printer so I was trying to get some info about this issue.  Thanks for any help that might be issued.
