Photo's Gone

I have a Lacie back up hard drive that contains my iPhoto collection.  Several weeks ago I lost all my pictures on my iMac in iPhoto.  Since then I have been taking pictures daily and adding them to my iPhoto which was empty.
Yesterday I opened the pictures on my Lacie to see what I had backed up.  I did nothing of any kind to suggest to the Lacie hard drive or to my iMac that I wanted all the pictures back into iPhoto on my desktop.  I just opened up iPhoto when I was in my Lacie hard drive.
Today I see all the pictures that were on the back up hard drive now in my iPhoto once again on my iMac, but now I do not have all my newest pictures that I have been adding to iPhoto .... it's like all the backed up picture overwrite my newest ones ?
Can I find all the recent ones or are they gone now forever for some reason  .... why would all the pictures on the backup hard drive wipe out all the newest ones , why would they not just be added along side them ?
GRRRRRRRR
Thanks

(*) Ok   I opened iphoto thru Leopard - Pictures - iPhoto and sure enough all my newer photographs are there as you said they would be THANKS !
Please explain a couple of things now ...
(**) Why is it that when I opened up iphoto from my dock before after clicking around in my Lacie - all the old backed up photos were shown each time I opened iPhoto from the dock.
Now ( after *)   when I open up iPhoto from my dock it is only the newer pictures shown ?
So I never lost anything at all, but now I have the pictures I wanted in my home folder ....
But now I have even newer pictures that I added in the last couple of days since all this began that were added to iPhoto using the dock icon to (** )
So to try and understand ...
I had old pictures on my Lacie that I clicked on - by doing that - the external pictures folder put themselves on my Dock / iPhoto - thus making me think al my newer pictures were gone - which now I find they are not. But since then I have been adding pictures to external folder that was on my Dock /iPhoto icon I have The Newest pictures on that.
How do I now get all my oldest and Very Newest on my External and my newer on my Home Folder all into one ?
Thanks so much for all of this .... I know it is confusing to explain thru typing and not talking in person at times.

I just created a new iPhoto library with holding the option key down and then opening iPhoto with version 7.1.5.  I changed the name of the first library to iPhoto library 1 and now I all my photos are gone.  My operating system is Mavericks.

launch iPhoto wile holding down the option key and select the original library - when you create a new library of course it is empty
And you seriously need to backup your iPhoto library and purchase and install iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x from the App store and download and run the iPhoto library upgraded \then run the new iPhoto - 7.1.5 is not fully compatible with Mavericks

PS you also need to update your profile - it states that you have OS X 10.6.8

  • My friend wanted to get some of the music off my itunes. when syncing it needed to udate her phone which it did - now all her photos are gone. and the last back up was from when she used my itunes 6  ago. How can we get back her photos :(Please help

My friend wanted to get some music off my itunes - when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first - which it did. Now all her photos are gone. When we tried to restore the last back up - the only one was from when she used my itunes 6 months ago which was from her old iphone. So now it has put all her photos from her old phone onto her new iphone and deleted all the new ones. We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. Is there any way we can get them back. I already have the program Asoftech - but it doesnt seem to register the iphone only C and D drive. Please help!

This is called "stealing". You do not have the legal right to give her the music you have in your iTunes library unless you are the copyright holder.
when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first
That's not quite what it said.  Someone should have paid more attention to the great big warning about the possibility of losing data if the phone wasn't backed up.

It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

You can get your information back if you have previously done a backup in iTunes or iCloud.

Go to this site and click on how to restore from backup.
This will help you with putting the information back onto your device.

  • HT4859 How do I retrieve my photos from the cloud after a reset. My photos are gone from my phone, and I backed them up on iCloud?

How do I retrieve my photos from the cloud after a reset. My photos are gone from my phone, and I backed them up on iCloud? when I restored it, no camera roll pictures?

Try restoring the backup again.  Sometimes it's successful the second time.  You could also try restoring an older backup.  iCloud will have your last 3 backups is you have sufficient storage space in your account.

  • Are my photos completely gone if i went into disk utility and clicked erase, or can i recover them?

i wanted to put my macbook pro back to factory settings and re installl the disk. so i went into disk utility and clicked erase, after that i realized i did not put my pictures on my external drive and now i'm wonder even though i pushed erase in disk utility for my HD are my photos just gone off my computer and hidden in files that i have to recover. because i tried a few softwares that i downloaded and i found some of my photos but couldnt get them cause the software was a demo.
main question is even though i clicked erase HD and my pictures aren't on when i re install the mac DVD can i still recover them somehow??

I'm assuming that you were booted from the Mac install disk or recovery partition when you clicked Erase? (It's impossible to erase a disk you're booted from, at least using Disk Utility).
Do you have a backup of your computer, perhaps using Time Machine?
If not, and you still want to recover your pictures, first, STOP. Do not re-install Mac OS X. Installing the system and applications will overwrite your hard drive and potentially permanently lose your deleted files.
The only way you can retrieve your files is by using data recovery software such as Data Rescue. No, it's not cheap, but you have to decide what your photos are worth to you. You would need to run it from another Mac, ideally, and connect to your Mac using target mode.
If you're uncomfortable with that, you should seek a local reputable Mac/data recovery consultant.
The utility kaz-k points you to is not a solution to your problem. It's an Unerase Trash program.

  • Desktop photo, dock gone

On our G5 we have 4 users setup. I noticed last night I could not select a picture in iPhoto 6 and apply that as the desktop photo in my wife's user login. I could change the desktop photo in system prefs for the dock though. This characteristic wasn't true for me (I could change my desktop photo via iPhoto 6).
This morning I was reading through iPhoto threads and someone suggested in system prefs, security, deselecting the box 'require password to unlock each secure system pref'. This was not checked on hers but for grins, I selected, then deselected it.
Now her dock is gone. Also her desktop photo is gone (just shows aqua blue). When we check our desktop system prefs it correctly shows the photo selected. If we choose another photo, nothing happens. I have tried deleting her dock.plist file in prefs but nothing happens. I have restarted several times and tried repairing permissions.
This phenomenon is only on her user, not system wide. Anybody offer any help?

Thank you, I think I fixed it. Held F12 during start up.

  • I synced my Iphone 4 with my sisters Itunes and now all my photos are gone? how do I get them back?

I went to save photos from my iphone 4 onto my sisters mac and they wouldnt upload and when I disconnected my phone I had her photos on my phone and over 2000 of my photos are gone.. please help!

" but the mac didnt allow them because of some apps on my phone s"
    What does this mean?
How did you try to import those pics?
You import pics from iphone just as you would from any digital camera.  They are not part of the sync process at all.
I am trying to figure out what exactly you did.
Bottom line is that the pics are gone unless you have a backup of your iphone on your computer from a time when the pics were on the iphone.
In the future you should be importing your pics to your computer regularly.

It just does't sync. I connect it to itunes, but nothing happens. Where it says how much space I have, it's just on ebig bar that says other. I can play my music on itunes, but not when i unplug it.
All of my photos were gone, i took and saved them with my ipod.
The photo app is saying restoring.
    What should i do?

Did you create these notes in the iPad notes App ... I assume?
This support article will explain how you can restore from a backup - which is what you have to do in order to have any chance of recovering your note.
How to backup and restore from a backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
But you have to remember, that you will lose any of the notes that you have taken since the date of the last backup. If you synced your iPad last week, then you will lose a whole week of current notes - or whatever notes you have created since your last backup. When you restore from a backup - you restore everything in that backup onto the iPad - that was on the iPad on the time and date of the backup.
If you backup every day, then all of your notes should be recoverable from the backup - except for any notes that you took since you last backed up. There is no foolproof way to recover everything once you start taking more notes or creating new documents or whatever that you do in an app unless you are syncing those notes with iCloud and backing up all of the time or unless the app is set to sync with iCloud as you work on the files - like in Pages, Numbers or Keynote - Apple's iWorks apps.
If you decide to restore from an iTunes backup you should turn off at sync before you try restoring because iTunes will want to backup your iPad right away when you plug it in and you will lose your old or last backup.

  • Ipod photoes were copied onto another ipod and orginal photos are gone now can i get them back?

okk so i have 2 ipod touches and i wanted both to have the same music and videos so i synced them both to one itunes. but then after i synced them both they were fine  after i noticed that the ipos have the same photos. from the device. so now one ipods original photos are gone and only have the photos from the ipod that was synced first. is there any way to get the origional photos back the ones before the sync????

If the backup of the one iPod contains the photos just restore one iPod from that backup. Otherwise you are out of luck unless the PhtoStream contains the photos.

Bummer!  Try this:  repeat the fixes and once the domain file seems to be working make a duplicate of it.  Then download BatChmod and run it on the duplicate domain file with the settings shown below:
Open the duplicate domain file and run with it.  See if it reverts back to the bad behavior.  Can't think of anything else.

I've just upgraded my iPhone from ios3 to ios6 and it has taken my phone back in time. My most recent photos and messages are dated from a year ago. My music is fine, just messages and photos are gone. HELP?

Restore the device using the most recent backup.
If you have not backed up the device recently, then there is nothing to restore.

  • Photos are gone

I was doing the software update and I let it just go and I noticed that it got hung up in the middle of it but I left it alone. Later I came back to the computer and re-did the software update, meanwhile I went to iphotos and the photos are gone. I remember leaving the photos up at one point and not closing it a while ago before the update. But how can I get my photos back. I am going to DIE if they are gone. I got to iPhoto and the events and photos show 0. I tried the rebuild thing and it did not nothing. Can someone please help!! I mean all of my kids baby pictures were on there and no I do not remember backing any of it up. I am devastated. I do not know what to do but I found some of the photos under images when I went to the hard drive an it shows where they are in a  folder under iphotos and the month and year of the folder but when I go and click on that iPhoto folder it reverts back to the iPhoto where the pictures show 0! HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

Your best solution is to restore a backup copy of the iPhoto Library made just prior to the problem occurring. Otherwise, do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto  8.1.2 and later or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I updated my iphone all my contacts and photos are gone. How can I retrieve them?

I updated my iphone all my contacts and photos are gone. How can I retrieve them?

Have you failed to use the device as designed?
If using the iPhone as designed, contacts are synced with a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.  Pictures taken with the device would be copied off to the computer on a regular basis.
If you have been using the device as designed, simply sync the content back.
If you have not been using the device as designed, you can try restoring from the most recent backup.  However, if that does not restore them, they are gone.
