Photo's on ATV

I am new to using this Apple TV at a job I started two weeks ago. It work in a doctors office and we use Apple TV to show photos on all of the TV's in the office.
I created some testimonials in Photoshop and saved them as JPEGS. They are now synced with Apple TV and will show on the screens. This is all great!
The only issue I have now is that the photos show in such a way that they are "zoomed in" on instead of the actual size of the photo. This was fine for all of the picture we have on there of nature and such, but the testimonials have text that you cannot read now.
Is there a way to change a setting so the photos show as actual size, or do not "zoom in"? If this is not clear enough, please ask and I will attempt to describe it better. Need help for work!!!! Thanks

The current settings I have on the images is smaller than 1280 x 720 thinking it would help.
When displayed on the ATV it is still larger than the screen and it "moves" around the image (like in Power Point when you would choose whatever "fade" into the next slide) until going into the next image. This is what is throwing me off as I cannot figure out if it is my image or the settings of ATV?
that's the "ken burns effect".
the images zoom in and out and slide and fade on the screen.
turn that off in appletv settings.

  • Photo Quality on ATV

    Hi
Just synced my itunes photos with the ATV but the photos are not as clear as they are on my Mac.
Also in ATV when you preview the pictures before going into the folders the images are fine (i presume as they are smaller) but when you go into the folder of the relavant images the images are not clear.
is there any setting as it is a shame as my iphoto images are very goos quality.
    pls help.

It is not surprising that images are not as good on a tv as they are on a monitor, you can't expect them to be. However that being said, the pictures on the tv are really very good and if you believe they are poor either you are exceptionally critical or there is something amiss somewhere.
There are no settings for quality, but turning on ken burns effects does help, other than this I can't suggest anything else for you.

  • Refreshing newly added photos to my ATV?

I have the newest AppleTV and have a folder on my Mac that I synched photos from when I first got it by creating a list in iPhoto. I just copied some new photos into iPhoto and added them to the list and opened iTunes.
    1. Is there someway to refresh iTunes and iPhoto or does will it synch the new photos to the ATV on its own?
    Thanks.

Books are a separate entity - they do not automatically update as you add photos to the source event - _*you must add them to the book by dragging them to the book icon in the source pane on the left.*_
Once you create a book you can ONLY add photo to it by dragging the photo to the book in the source pane on the left
You do not need to start a new book - just drag the photos you want to the existing book in the source pane on the left

  • Can i upload photos directly to ATV via USB port

    Hello,
Can I upload photos directly onto ATV via the USB port on the back of the ATV. In other words is it possible to bypass the computer and iTunes? I've been trying but can't figure it out.
    Thanks

The short answer is no. All ATV content has to come from either an iTunes library or directly from the iTunes store on the ATV. The USB port on the ATV is essentially useless to the end user. About the only thing it's good for is to connect a USB fan if your equipment cabinet is too hot.

  • Aperture stopped syncing photos to iPad & ATV via iTunes

Out of the blue my iTunes has completely stopped syncing my Aperture photo library to both iPad and ATV devices. In iTunes the drop-down selection for iPhoto and Aperture is there but when I click sync nothing happens. My video, audio and apps all sync just fine. Any ideas? Seems to me this stopped with the last Aperture update.

This happened to me a few weeks ago... exactly as you described. I was able to fix it, but dang if I can remember what the final solution was.
I think I remember turning off sharing completely with each device, synced, then turning it back on and setting it up again. Had to go through the long initial sync to get a couple thousand images loaded back on the mobile devices. But, issue was solved.
Definitely get the latest 3.1.1 upgrade to Aperture 3. This dealt with some "sharing library with iLife apps" issues which very well could be related.
I apologize for not giving a direct answer... but have confidence this is not a showstopper and it can be fixed! I hate being over 50.

  • Syncing Photos back onto ATV after moving from a previous computer

Recently I switched from using a Hp compaq running on windows NT to a new Hp workstation running on windows vista. I successfully moved my itunes library to the new machine and also moved my photos which were linked through an external Lacie drive which I just plugged into the new machine via the USB and which is clearly visible on the new machine. I have the most up to date itunes and ATV software operating. I have paired the ATV with the new library via the ATV using the code number given and the music appears on the Television screen but the memory of the ATV does not fill nor will it see my photos nor sync them. Initially the ATV filled its capacity with audio files but no photos. I tried a reboot and restore factory setting but the photos still will not appear nor will the audio files apper in the memory of the ATV. Query, how do I get the photos back on to the ATV and have I got stuck in streaming mode. Help please.

Thanks tried that but no avail. I noticed though that when I reconnected I only ticked one playlist, yet when I went into the ATV it had all of the playlists from previous but still no photos and asks for me to make a connection and sync, which is what I did. I also only cliked to sync one folder with 20 photos so that it wouldn't be down to a time issue that may arise from large files. As I speak it is still showing up in itunes as 'syncing' but the 40GB memeory bar is still showing up empty............. any other ideas, please

  • ITunes stopped syncing Aperture photos to my ATV and iPad

Out of the blue my iTunes has completely stopped syncing my Aperture photo library to both iPad and ATV devices. In iTunes the drop-down selection for iPhoto and Aperture is there but when I click sync nothing happens. My video, audio and apps all sync just fine. Any ideas?

That show that your original library is damaged and needs to be repaired.  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I-Photo colours on ATV

I have been transferring some 1960's 35mm colour slides onto i-photo using MediaImpression and they look great - when I stream them across to my Apple TV the blue on every slide shows up as green - I have tried adjusting the colour on i-photo but it makes no difference and I can't see any way to change the colour/shades on the actual Apple Tv - any ideas as to how to get the colours to stream across with greater accuracy?

    789piglet wrote:
Thanks for the quick response - colours are all Ok on films and current digital photo's - don't have any video to stream myself. Not sure what you mean by connected via component - but all 3 cables in the "video" slots on the back of the ATV are very secure.
well the appletv has 2 connection types
    component or HDMI.
component has 3 separate coloured connectors.
    HDMI is only thin plug.
the fact that all your other images display OK would suggest it's not an appletv issues you have.
it could be that the format of your problematic images is the issue.

  • Photo Slideshow on ATV

I have over 12K pictures for the slideshow to pull from, but it constantly plays the same pictures. Is there a way to make it so it only shows them once?

Unfortunately I don't think there's a way to get the Apple TV to pull from the larger pool of pictures. I find it grabs a selection of photos when the screensaver starts and keeps repeating them. It would be nice if Apple would update the software to continually show new photos from the selected folder and subfolders without repeating them, but that's not the way they have it set up right now. Maybe if enough people request this they will make the change....

  • ATV not Sync'ing Photos

I have an ATV and I have been able to sync my music, movies and TV Shows with my iTunes on my PC. The photos also sync with my iTouch and iPhone but will not sync with my ATV. Any suggestions?

They all are .jpg's and are stored in My Pictures folder on my PC's HD.  I have created the following hierarchy within My Pictures: My Pictures -> Year -> Month and then I have all the pictures for that month. I don't believe that any tags have been added to them that would cause any issues because they sync fine with my iTouch and iPhone.  When I sync with my ATV and iTunes, iTunes just sits there for as long as I will let it trying to sync my photos with my ATV.

  • Transfer photos form ATV to my iMac ???

Hi everyone, last week-end, my iMac and Macbook Pro were stolen. So I lost all my musics and photos. But they left me my Apple TV, and all my photos and half of my music are still on my ATV. Is there anyway to transfer those precious photos from the ATV to my new computer ?
    Thanks in adavnce

  • Apple TV deletes sync'd content (photos)

My ATV setup is demonstrating a variant of what seems to be a frequently reported problem - erratic sync behavior. In general, the sync process will often (but not always) delete (all) previously sync'd photos from the ATV, despite the fact that the photo sync setting either did not change or they changed in some minor way (ie added another album to the sync selection list). The sync process will complete without complaint, the photos will be gone from the ATV and the "capacity bar" in iTunes, but the settings for photos will still show the "Sync photos from iPhoto", "Selected Albums", and the individually selected albums checked. If I then quit iTunes and restart it, the sync settings for photos are all now mysteriously unchecked, the sync process runs and no photos are sync'd. To get them to sync again, I can sometimes recheck the photo sync boxes and album selections and apply the changes. After waiting for 20 minutes (2500 photos), the sync (sometimes) works and the photos are available on the ATV, the "capacity bar" reflects the photos. As often as it works, the sync will "finish" without complaining, all the boxes will still be checked, yet no photos will be on the ATV or in the "capacity bar". I try this over and over until it finally works and all is well...until something triggers another sync between ATV and iTunes...which usually (but not always) results in another cycle of the above. Very frustrating, very fragile, very beta.
As I would like to solve this problem for myself and others, I am going to provide as much detail as possible to paint a complete picture. I am also happy to try suggested solutions or data gathering ideas. After all, I need to re-sync a few times a day any way!
    Environment:
Brand new ATV - s/w up to date - using wi-fi not ethernet - full signal strength
Brand new Apple Extreme in "N, (B,G compatible)" mode
    Macbook Pro (10.4.11)
iTunes 7.5 (19) - library on Macbook Pro - content on NAS
    iPhoto '08 7.1.1 (358) - library freshly rebuilt - library on NAS
Infrant ReadyNAS NV (network attached storage)
    iTunes settings:
    Sync selected movies
    No TV show sync
No music sync (I use streaming for this - works fine)
    No podcast sync
Sync photos from iPhoto, selected albums
Interestingly, I never have problems with the movies (there are only 3 right now) - they never disappear or need to re-sync. To date, this has only happened with the photos. I have reset the ATV to factory settings a number of times - no change. Streaming iTunes music works fine.
I noticed a very similar post on MacRumors:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=316340
+As subject indicates, why does iTunes insist on deleting all the music content that's already been synced to the ATV? It seems like if I launch iTunes following a reboot it immediately goes and "syncs" to the ATV by deleting all the music on the ATV. I've had to re-sync 12GB of music at least 5 times now. Running latest version of iTunes on XP.+
+After it deletes everything, If I just click "sync" for ATV (to get the music back on the device) it doesn't do anything, even though I have the option checked to sync all music and playlists on the music tab of the Apple TV device. Only way to get the music back over there is to ctrl-click my music library (select all) and THEN click sync, and it starts copying. It's almost as if it's doing it by design (because the entire library isn't checked at startup?), but they couldn't have possibly been that ******** designing this, could they? The REALLY stupid thing is that it doesn't bother the 2 podcasts I have sync'd, one the D5 interview with Gates & Jobs and the other a Macbreak. Space is not an issue, as I said I have a 12GB music library and the two video podcasts are about a Gig; that's all that's on it. Any ideas? Anyone else experience this behavior?+
    Thanks,
    Jim
Pretty much the same behavior, but with music. He seemed to pinpoint a connection with "unchecking" songs in iTunes (iTunes, not ATV sync) as the root cause. I can't see a parallel with photos.
    *Hi Jim,*
*I just came across your post and joined the forum because I am having the same exact trouble with my new ATV and Windows XP pro. What I've noted (very frustratingly) is that the ATV will ONLY sync with songs in my iTunes library if they are checked.*
*I have the option "Sync ALL music and playlists" checked in the settings. There is no mention in the manual that sync only happens with content that is check-marked in iTunes...*
*So I have the same thought - surely that cannot be as designed, could it??*
*If it IS by design, it doesn't make sense, because iTunes requires you to check and uncheck songs if you want to only play certain ones, etc - so this means that each time you might happen to uncheck a song because you don't feel like listening to it on your PC iTunes, then it will also get deleted from ATV?!*
*I have to beleive this cannot be how it's supposed to work... I'm going to do some more testing, but for the moment I'm waiting for it to finish syncing my library of 12,600 songs so it'll be a few days...*
    Cheers,
    Jcd
+Unfortunately, it IS how it is designed to work; despite others in the thread saying theirs works like an iPod, I called AppleCare after I purchased a 2nd ATV for downstairs and it exhibited the exact same behavior. The girl I spoke to thought that maybe it was a windows only thing (though I told her for test purposes I'd changed the syncing to my macbook and it worked exactly the same), so she tested from both the Macs & PCs in their lab and confirmed that she experienced the same behavior. I asked her why it didn't sync like an iPod and she said "because that's how they designed it." So I tried a different tact, and asked her if SHE thought it was logical for it to work the way it does, and of course she answered "Yes, because that's how they designed it." Quite frustrating! For my first experience with AppleCare I wasn't overly impressed (is she what they call a "Genius" or do you need to go up the foodchain before reaching the geniuses?), though I do give her credit for taking the time to go find an XP machine to test on -- I was on hold about 10 minutes while she tested that out.+
+Anyway, if you think it should sync like an iPod when you've checked "Sync ALL music and playlists" then definitely send an e-mail to [email protected]; I only have 12GB of music, I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if I accidentally opened iTunes without everything checked and had to re-sync 12,600 songs!! But the bottom line is I think this design decision was ********, so I let them know that... other than that I do like them, as I mentioned I liked it enough to buy another.+
Thanks in advance for any ideas out there!
    Cheers

Thanks for the quick response...I was hoping to get your input given the amount of time you have put into other posts on this topic.
+My thoughts are that each time your sync occurs the tv is seeing your library as a different library to the one before or perhaps the other way around, this may be due to the way your network assigns it's IP's and other info.+
Hmmm...I don't think my network could be any more simple. The Extreme is connected to Comcast cable modem and dishes out addressed via DHCP. The NAS and the Macbook are connected to the Extreme via ethernet, and the ATV uses wifi. If it were an IP addressing problem, wouldn't you expect problems with the other content? Why just photos? Also, iTunes/ATV never has problems reading the album list. I can add a new album in iPhoto and it shows up in iTunes immediately.
+However the second observation is that you are using a network drive for your library which whilst many have reported success in using such a device is not so far as I know supported by itunes/tv. Are your photo libraries also on this drive and if so have you tried relocating them to a local drive for the purpose of diagnostics.+
Yes, the iPhoto library is on the NAS. I am willing to try the relocation but have a few questions on that. What is the most expedient method to generate a new library in a new location? command+option when bring up iPhoto gives me all of the library/thumbnail rebuild options (which I have done), but it does not give you the option of a new location, does it? Also, I was under the impression that unlike with music, I cannot separate the "library" from the content with iPhoto - which means that I would need to copy all of my photos to the MacBook, which defeats the purpose of the NAS. Again, willing to try this out to pinpoint the problem but would like to keep my photos on the NAS.
I have pondered the possible role of the NAS in the problem long and hard but music on the NAS works in every which way - it syncs fine, it streams fine, etc. The only difference between music and photos that I can come up with is the location of the library itself - the music library is on the laptop while the photo library is on the NAS.
Thanks - will try some things out based on your reply.

  • Synching photos from TeraStation to Apple TV is not working - any ideas?

    Hi,
gosh, I hope someone can help me with this ... please
my iTunes library runs on a Buffalo TeraStation Live (network attached storage).
Synching and streaming movies, TV shows and music works fine. But as soon as I choose the photo folder on the TeraStation and click on apply iTunes starts 'synching' forever without copying any pictures. I have tried streaming the pictures, too (not working either).
Synching from a local harddrive photo folder works fine for some reason.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you!!

hmmm - well i sometimes find that the terrastation goes into a sulk and needs a reboot in these circumstances. the trouble is that the terrastation uses windows style filing system and all manner of issues crops up, causes it to crash and / or goes into a never ending loop. If you sync your photos onto the atv then it will be fine - unless you have 1000s of photos, it will not take up too much space
I am seriously thinking of cutting my losses, getting rid of it and going timecapsule.

  • There are no photos or music in my apple tv

There are no photos, no music in my apple tv
I've selected the "Photos" tab for the aTV device, checked the "Sync photos from iPhoto" box, then chosen "Selected albums" and checked the box for one of the albums that are displayed. When the "Apply" button appears, I hit it, then hit "Sync" when it shows up. But when I select "Photos" on the aTV, it keeps telling me that "There are no photos on your Apple TV." I have tried everything, including checking the firewall, it seems to be disabled. I see a user said he had to enable iTunes file sharing in the firewall? I had this working perfectly in the past, I had to send my computer for a factory repair and the photos I had in the apple tv disappeared. Ever since I got my computer back this problem persists. Please help

No, nothing is really syncing, I can download to my the AppleTV through the wireless Internet connection just fine. And I have made sure the disk is not full. As a matter of a fact, I have had hundreds of pictures on the AppleTV and still be able to download series, etc.
The problem seems to be in the connection with the computer, I have checked firewalls, there are none. This are the steps I take, maybe you can help me knowing. I go to Itunes, under devices I find the AppleTV, then I click click to connect, I put in the code that AppleTV gives you when you go to settings-computers-add ahared itunes library. Then I click the photos tab in itunes, check the content I want, click apply, but nothing happens, there is no bar that says it is synching.

  • Problem: not able to sync photo's from iTunes 9.1.1 to my iPhone

In iTunes version 9.1.1 no tab appears with the name 'photo's'. How am I able to upload photo's from my computer to my iPhone? Is it a error in the software or something else? I already removed iTunes from the computer and reinstalled it. It doesn't make any difference.
    Can somebody help me?

I am concerned about that. However, iTunes did sync all photos to the ATV including some of the photos in question before it stopped. There are about 25 photos I imported to get the iPhoto library up to date. Tonight, I will delete the 25 photo's and see if that fixes the problem.
FYI- during the import of the 25 photo's, my wife closed iPhoto prior to ejecting and turning off the camera. I was hoping that was the reason but the 25 photo's all work properly in iPhoto????
