Photo saturation

hello, could use some help, photos from camera, (digital still),---after bridge and cs3 into imovie and created movie with transitions etc.. then into idvd--created 2 dvd's--16:9-- about 15 minutes--one quality wise ok the other over saturation especially reds anyone have an idea -- operator error, but where?
thank you

Did you create disk images and then check with DVD Player software? Might be the DVD-Rs you're using?
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility. You can set burn speed in iDVD '08 if not creating a disc image.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his iDVD 6 book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
I buy Verbatim white inkjet printable in stacks of 50. Verbatim's part number: 94971. They have been flawless for me.

  • Printed Photos color very saturated

    When I print this photo:
on photo paper on my Photosmart C309a Series, the color is too saturated.
and yet when I print on plain paper the photo looks fine.
The photo paper used is HP Premium and the ink is HP.  The print quality report looks OK:
What is wrong?  Is the printer not working correctly?  I have tried all kinds of option changes and have wasted over 20 pages of photo paper (not to speak of the ink used).  I'm thinking of taking the printer back to Costco.
    can anyone help?

What program are you printing from?  If you are printing from Photoshop make sure you are not selecting CMYK as the printer model.  Even though the printer uses CMYK inks the driver expects RGB data from the computer.

  • HT203040 Iphone 6 photos too colour saturated

photos in the iphone5 appeared very natural with perfect colour balance. My new iPhone 6 however takes photos that are clearly colour satured. They just dont look that great. Its sporting an apple leather case. Could the case have an impact? Anyone else havimg the same issue with iphone 6?

  • Photo's look over saturated when compaired with Preview and PS.

My g/f's photos look natural when she views them in Preview and Photoshop, yet when viewed within iPhoto they look over saturated!
Which one represents the truest viewer and why are they different?
    Thanx
    Tc

    Can I just say...
I ask anyone with Tiger and 6.0.3 to double click a photo from within iPhoto so it goes to edit within Photoshop. As soon as the photo arrives at PS it looks fine and as it should be. Compare the two and iPhoto's is aweful!!
Seriously, dont edit anything in iPhoto. The colour profiling is all over the place!

  • Dark blue in JPEG photo is distorted/saturated in iMovie, nowhere else

I am creating a movie with scanned jpegs. In some of them, I am wearing a dark blue suit. These photos look great in iPhoto (exactly like the original). But when I add it to iMovie, the dark blue suit looks distorted/saturated, especially in shadows. I tried using the video adjustments to correct it, but could not get a good result. I am using a high quality scanner (Epson Perfection 4870). The scans look perfect before they get into iMovie. They are at 300 dpi. I tried lowering the resolution, but that made it slightly worse. I made a DVD to see what it looks like on the TV (to see if my computer monitor may be acting screwy), but the problem is still there.

Try associating the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile with your monitor.  Does the problem persist?

    -went to Control Panel
    -Colour Management
    -"Add"
-clicked on "sRGB ICC-whatever" and then hit OK
-made that new ICC profile default
    Fail.
    NYOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! >_<;;
Why did I not listen? TT_TT I really should've listened!
Well, they don't call me an idiot for nothing...
Thanks anyway, Noel... Yea it was the monitor's ICC profile. x_x

  • Exported photos are too saturated (reds especially)

I use iPhoto to store all my photos and to do occasional quick edits.
However, exported photos look so much more saturated than they do when viewed (double-clicked) within iPhoto, especially the red colors. This is also true when the photos are viewed from directly within the iPhoto Package file, and also when viewed as a thumbnail within iPhoto - the colors are much more saturated.
Why is this happening? After editing my photos within iPhoto I can never export them the way they are meant to look no matter what I do. It seems as if iPhoto uses its own color profiling that is useless outside the iPhoto application.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is becoming more and more bothersome.

I have trashed the Preview pref files, but to no avail. I have also tried the following:
    - I have tried uploading the image file from the finder onto Facebook and Picasa and viewed in Safari and Firefox. The images also look consistent (mostly) with the aforementioned applications!
    - I have tried viewing the images directly within Safari and Firefox by dragging the image onto the respective browser icons in the dock and in Safari it's the same Preview Saturated look (prob because Safari uses the same rendering as Leopard Preview), but in Firefox it looks like it does in all the aforementioned applications...
    - I have tried opening them in my WindowsXP VMWare using the default Explorer application and they look consistent with the aforementioned applications.
    - I have tried creating another user account on my Mac and logging in to preview the images, but it makes no difference.
    Any further suggestions?

  • Over Saturated Photos in IDVD09

Using Iphoto 09 and IDVD09. Trying to burn a slideshow with 2 small video clips via Imovie09 to IDVD. The photos are extremely over saturated. Skin is a sharp pink or red color. Totally unusable. Any suggestions to correct this? Can't believe this is happening, very frustrated. All help appreciated, I can not be the first with this problem.

  • My photos look over saturated when opened in CS6

When i look at my photos in Ulead Instant Viewer or Breeze Browser Pro they look similar to what they did on the back of my camera.
But when i view them in my newly purchased CS6 the saturation is increased by around 25 to 30 units.
When i scanned some 35mm colour negatives and viewed them in photoshop they had exactly the same saturation as when viewed in Ulead Instant Viewer and Breeze Browser Pro.
    Can anyone help please?

CS6 the saturation is increased by around 25 to 30 units.
if Photoshop is not displaying your RGB faithfully, either your monitor profile is off or Photoshop is being configured to use (or assume) the wrong soure profile (it is possible your problem documents are over saturated and Photoshop is only displaying the problem)
i would have you download the PDI WhackedRGB.jpg and see what happens in your apps...
tip: if you confirm Photoshop is indeed using the whacked source profile, and it is not displaying proper, I would suspect your monitor profile (try Edit>Color Settings> Settings> North American Prepress 2 for now - then quit Photoshop and reopen the Whacked test image, "Use the embedded profile")...

  • Photos edited in Zoombrowser/Digital Photo Professional become over-saturated

    Hi,
I'm new to using Zoombrowser and having an issue with over-saturated photos.
I edited a photo in ZB and while in the software the photo looks like the way I took it.
But when I export the photo, it comes out more saturated even though I didn't make any changes.
This has happened to other photos also, so it can't be a one-time accident..
I've read online that this might be an issue with "color-space" but I don't know how to change it.
I've been using sRGB on the Camera and ZB...what else should I check?
Also, this happens with Digital Photo Professional also.
    Thanks.
    Raj.

    Hi,
Yes, I am using different viewers...in ZoomBrowser/DPP the photo looks ok...in Windows Viewer/Facebook the photo comes out over-saturated.
I thought it might be an issue with the different viewers...but when I was using Lightroom to edit, there wasn't this much of a difference...so I thought I'd ask.
I don't see a difference when I export from DPP and bring it back up on DPP.  But, I'd like to be sure the exported photo will look (for the most part) the way it looked before I export...at least on my computer.
Any chance I need to calibrate my monitor or play around with settings in ZoomBrowser/DPP?
Thanks for your questions and suggestions.

  • Photos automatically more saturated?

I recently imported about 1500 photos to lightroom, and when I click on a photo, it comes up more saturated than the image I took.  And it's automatic to all images.  Any idea why this is?  Any help is appreicated.  Thanks.

This may be the most frequently asked question of newcomers to Lightroom.
I'm sure somebody will come along shortly with link(s) to more info about it.
I mean, to answer your specific question, exactly: "No, there is no way to keep the Lightroom rendition from replacing the in-camera preview".
But, you *can* customize Lightroom defaults to more closely match your druthers, e.g. choose camera matching profile. Lightroom rendition will still be different, due to in-camera settings and compensations that Lightroom will not be doing. You can expect to need to do some tweaks to all (or the vast majority of) your imported images before they will be suitable, even if you had them perfected in camera.
If you *really* want to match Lightroom's rendition to your camera, there is a way, but most people find they'd prefer to learn how to make their images even better in Lightroom than what their camera can do. Otherwise, what's the point of using Lightroom?

  • Pixma Pro9000 - over saturation of photo ink.

I have been using this model for some time in my studio for last minute photographs - LOVE it!  It broke, had error message that was unresolvable without sending it in.  So I purchased another of the same printer, used.  After I plugged it in, using same drivers, I ran through the maintenance tasks - they were all acceptable and as expected.  Color good, printed a test sheet - it came out great.  I put in some photo paper, semi-gloss, and printed a color photograph that I have printed before - oh wow!  Way too much green and very wet, over-saturation.  So I tried a black/white photograph - and still oversaturated and green!  So I removed all the ink cartridges (all full!), and replaced with new ones - better, but still over-saturation.  I uninstalled all drivers/software and reinstalled from the Canon website drivers for my Windows 7 (64-bit).  Better, but still over-saturation!  Colors in the wrong places, etc.  I have been without this printer for a few months, and really need help to get this one going again.  I am considering uninstalling it all again, and finding my original disks and doing that installation.  I appreciate any help I can get!  I do like having this particular printer, and the quality it puts out.

Two things come to mind in this situation.  One are you using new Canon brand cartridges?  And are you using Canon brand paper with the correct ICC profile?
If not you must do this first.  After you get everything working correctly, you can try other paper that has a profile for Canon printers.  Red River papers are very good.  Some others are not and will not work.
On cartridges NEVER use off-brand.  Always use genuine Canon from a reputable store.

  • When importing photos from computer, all colors change to garish saturated

I just imported some photos(jpgs) from my Windows XP/hard drive into Lightroom for the first time. All the colors changed to really garish, bright, highly saturated, in all views, on all photos. Faces are bright red, ground is bright orange, red clothing is blinding.
This has happened one other time: when I make PDFs from Acrobat Professional. The colors turn all highly saturated and unnatural. Does anyone know why this is or how to help? I have 10,000 photos and they look fine in Photoshop, my Canon Zoombrowser, Windows viewers, everywhere else.
    Thanks.

    >Then I opened all 4 (including raw file) and the Raw, Adobe, and prophoto were identical, the remaining srgb pic was alot redder, like I had a red filter almost, just really warm
In a color managed app, the three exports in prophotoRGB, adobeRGB and sRGB should look almost identical safe for some minor shifts if you have a wide gamut display or a display with a primary very different from sRGB (certain laptop displays). If they look different, and you are using a color managed app, chances are your monitor calibration is no good. Apps that are color managed are Photoshop, Safari, Apple's preview, Lightroom, recent versions of irfanview (older were not managed). Apps that are not color managed and will give you the wrong color on any display are Windows picture viewer pre vista, (internet) explorer, Google Picasa, etc. Let me assure you that Lightroom correctly exports to sRGB. They did not get this wrong.
Conclusion: On a calibrated normal gamut display sRGB exports WILL look identical to Lightroom when you are using color managed apps to view your export. In non-managed apps, the colors will be close but there will be only minor color shifts that are usually only visible to critical viewers. On wide gamut displays in color managed apps there might be small differences in saturation i certain limited cases (flowers and such).

  • Color saturation on some photos excessively, on some normal

I have more than 10.000 photos on my G5 Quadra. I scanned colour slides, paper photos and used two Nikon digital cameras, three Canon digital cameras and now I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ 30. I understand that understanding ColorSync for a „simple“ photographer - who prints photos on different papers on inkjet colour printers - is not essential, so I followed the advice in the literature not to bother with ColorSync, I never (willingly) embedded any profile. My Apple Cinema HD is left as it came.
    What is the result?
All my programs (PhotoShop CS, PhotoShop Elements, FotoMagico, GraphicConverter, Imag Buddy, iViewMedia Pro, MorphX, Panorama Maker, Apple Preview, Apple Keynote, Aplle iMovie, Final Cut Express, Apple Pages, Motion Pictures HD, NoteBook, Photo to Movie) show beautiful photos - just as I adjusted them in PhotoShop. Also iPhoto up to iPhoto 5 showed the right colours.
iPhoto 6 alters many of these - to all above mentioned programs well known photos - to heavily oversaturated photos.
I have spent many hours trying to find out a plausible reason why some photos out of series are „devastated“ and why some are not. Of course I have tried some of the remidies from the discussions here, none helps. And of course I would not do anything to my photos so that the majority of programs would make them look pale and colourless.
I am sure there is a real thick bug in this version 6 of iPhoto, the bug is outside the profile! Has anyone heard of how long we have to wait until Apple repairs this bug?

  • Is it possible to edit (levels, curves, exposure, saturation, etc.) a selected area of a photo (using quick selection, magnetic lasso, etc.) without moving the selected section to another document and editing it there?

I'm trying to edit a portion of a photo of a lake so that the rays of sunlight (the lines that run across the sky) are more prominent, without darkening the rest of the photo. I've sucessfully selected, removed, and edited the sky in the photo (the part that I want to enhance the sun rays on), but I can't figure out how to get that piece (currently it's own document) back onto the original jpeg document. I took the selection from the Background copy if that is of any help to figuring this out.

Another way in photoshop is to make a Group above the photo. add a layer mask using the selection and put the adjustment layers in the group
