Photo scan to jpeg not in color

When I scan a color photo on my HP 8630 glass to my hp computer as a  jpeg,  the file I get is a black & white jpeg and not a color jpeg like it should be . There seems to be  no way to set to a color jpeg when sending it to my computer. If I use a jump drive I can select a color jpeg but what I get is a pdf, however it is in color.  I know I can work with the pdf in color and change it to a jpeg file.  I was hoping to just go directly to the color jpeg - it seems like it did so in the past, have had this printer for 5 months.

Hi,
What is your operating system version?
Do you scan from teh HP Scan software on your PC or from the printer control panel?
Please clarify the following as the steps may vary.

  • Scanning Paper Copies of White and Black Photos:  in Grey scale or in color mode?

I started to scan old black and white paper photos of my deceased father. He shot most of these photos around 1940. The photos are typically around 9.5cm x 6.5 cm (around 3.7 x 2.5 inches), sometimes they are even smaller. Typically, 4-6 photos are glued on each page of a dark photo-album paper. I do not have available any negatives.
My main objective: enjoy to look at the scanned photos on my 19 inch PC Monitor Display. I can imagine, that I will also print a couple of them in something close to their original dimensions.
For the scan, I am using my home flat-bed scanner (it is a 3-year old Canoscan N676U). I am scanning at a resolution of 300, 400 or 600 dpi. I experimented both with a "grey scale" and a "color (photo)" scans. I am not sure what is better: scan in grey scale? Or scan in color?
Scanning in "Color" results (this is at least my subjective impression) in a little bit more/better contrast. However this results also in some yellow/brown/sepia taint, that I do not like very much (the taint becomes especially disagreeable, if I eventually use the PSE Editor to adjust the lighting). Therefore, after the scan I typically use the PSE V5 Editor "Enhance" --> "Convert to Black and White" to get rid of the yellow/brown taint.
Can somebody make me some recommendations and tell me which one is the better method:
    1) Scan with "Colors" and then use the PSE Editor to get rid of color taints? Or
    2) Scan in "Gray scale" (which allows me to scan with a greater resolution)?
At this time, I have the impression, that both methods results in more or less comparable results. But I fear somehow, that I might be currently missing some important aspects and that I could regret it much later, at a time where I will not have anymore the originals (they do not belong to me, and I have to return them).
I found the following two contradictory recommendations:
    1) In the PSE Forum "Tips, Tools, How-To and Techniques....", in the Topic "Scanned Images", I found following Post:
    brent bertram - 11:14am Oct 18, 05 PST (#5 of 6)
AND, even Black & White photos typically benefit from being scanned as a color image, rather than grey scale. You have much more flexibility in editing and adjustments.
    2) A Canon Dealer recommended me to scan my black and white images with grey scale, not with colors.
Thank You very much for Your Feedback.

    Robert.....
I would go along with the advocates of scanning in colour as it gives you far more flexibility to tweak the colour channels in editor. For your final version you can then either convert to grayscale or,preferably in my opinion, use one of the PSE desaturation methods, and retain the file as RGB.

  • Apple TV, i-Photo & scanned (jpeg) images ......

Has anyone had this problem .....
Photos scanned okay and imported into i-Photo no problem. Placed into album no problem. Created slideshow no problem.....
Came to sync with Apple TV and nothing. Apple TV picks up the album and the slideshow name BUT sees them as empty and consequently will not sync?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums
Have you tried syncing the iphoto album rather than the slideshow, it maybe your jpegs are incompatible in some way.

  • Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.

Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.
Is there any way to re-number them in the order I have chosen so that they can then be sorted by number? The scans are all from pre-digital images that I wish to move to a photobook and I don't want to have to organise them twice!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following:  Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date.  This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

  • Photos on iPhone3 not in color

Are photos supposed to show up in color on iPhone 3G? Icons are in color but photos are B&W. Can't find a setting to change this.

If you don't want your photos in iCloud, save any photos in photo stream to your camera roll that you want to keep by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to keep, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Then go to settings>iCloud and turn Photo Steam to Off.
When you say your music is in iCloud, are you saying that you subscribe to iTunes Match?  If so, just turn iTunes Match off on your phone in Settings>Music, and on your computer in iTunes>Store>Turn off iTunes Match.  Then connect your iPad to your computer and sync all your music to your iPad using iTunes.

  • Iphoto 9.5 not supporting color profiles supported in '11

JPG Photos in iphoto 11 from Scancafe.com with color profile OS14000_A2_B8_oG that worked with iphoto '11, now not working with iphoto 9.5 and now unable to re-import.
First some background.  I was using iphoto 11 and had no problem importing the scancafe jpg photos (color photos) from the DVD's.  Everything was fine until I upgraded my mac mini to mavericks and upgraded iphoto 11 to 9.5.  It seems iphoto 9.5 does not support the color profile of the jpgs that were scanned by scancafe.  That color profile is OS14000_A2_B8_oG.  I noticed that after upgrade of iphoto, that jpgs with this color profile are no longer seen at full size (they are visible as preview in iphoto, they are also visible in the mac program Preview, they also seem to work in aperture).  But, when I try to view as full size in iphoto it is just black.  Interstingly, the face detection from iphoto 11 still hovers, but now over black photo.  The photo is still in the Masters area of the iphoto library, iphoto is just unable to view as full size.
When I tried to import the photo again, iphoto says the jpgs are unreadable.  So, after hours of frustration, I realized iphoto doesn't seem to be supporting the color profile: OS14000_A2_B8_oG.   When I used Adobe Lightroom 5 (Imported all first) to export as jpg (batch export) and removed the color profile (it then defaults to sRGB), the pictures  were able to be imported into iphoto and were visible at full size.
To make a long story short, it seems that apple didn't provide support for this color profile with iphoto 9.5.  Which is interesting, because they used to support it in iphoto 11.
Any ideas how I can save the work I have done on these photos:  descriptions, face recognition, etc. without having to reimport jpgs with new color profile?
It would seem simple for apple to support the color profile and continue to do so.  This foreshadows the slow removal of support for older file format and color profiles as software is upgraded.  Will the photos in our iphoto library be visible in 10 years without conversions and reimporting?  This is a concerning precedent.

Not what but who. That would be me.  Keith is referring to this Applescrip: Embed sRGB Profile-Applescript, that you can download from  Toad's Cellar.  However, I've found it doesn't work on all files and have created an Automator workflow that is more reliable:  Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile.
Both are on Toad's Cellar and you can try both.  They will have to be applied to the image files outside of iPhoto before importing into iPhoto.

  • No longer able to Scan to JPEG using HP Phtotosmart 2610

I no longer have the ability to scan to JPEG format using my HP Photosmart 2610xi using the Apple HP Printer Driver 10.3. I now only have TIFF, PNG and PDF formats available to me. Software update does not recognize the need for an update to the driver. This is a new issue as I have always been able to scan to the JPEG format. My bank requires that any checks I want to deposit via the web have to be in JPEG format. I am running a Mac Mini with OS 10.10.3.

    Hey,
Install the HP Easy Scan app from the Mac App Store, then open it from the Applications folder:

Once you are done scanning click the Save button, may you select JPG from the app?

  • My scanner keeps scanning in jpeg instead of pdf. What do I need to do?

When I go to scan documents my scanner has started to scan as jpegs instead of pdf. I've tried several times to switch it back to pdf. It works while I finish my scans but the next time I go to scan more documents it goes back to jpeg. Where do I go and what do I check or uncheck to keep it scanning as pdf?

    Hi,
Select scan DOCUMENT rather than PHOTO, it will scan af pdf file(s). My suggestion: scan from printer software (on your computer) will give your more choices.
    Regards.

Trying to print a jpeg (not a photograph) in Elements 12. No matter what setting i select, it prints in landscape. How do I get it to print in portrait?
Second question.  What is the fastest way to change the number setting (0 to 12) for an existing photo so that the file size is smaller?

Go to File>print in Editor. In the dialog that comes up, you should see "Page Setup". Select "Portrait".
This assumes that the file is in portrait orientation as well, before sending it to the printer.
As for question #2, I am unaware of a numeric sequence such as you would like in this program. You can alter file size via File>save for web, however.

  • Photo scanning issue

i can not scan photos from my kodak printer from photshop..it is reading an old printer that is no longer installed...kodak states it is with the software from adobe?can someone  please help...thanks

Photoshop has never been able to scan, it is NOT a scanning application.  Kodak is giving you unadulterated B.S.
Scanning inside Photoshop was and remains a most inefficient way to scan.  You should scan outside of Photoshop
When you used the Import menu in Photoshop to scan in the past, all you were doing is tying up Photoshop while it called on the scanner application provided by the scanner manufacturer to scan using the TWAIN plug-in.  Now the TWAIN plug-in has been deprecated by Adobe.
If Kodak will not provide a scanning application and a driver of its own so that you could scan outside of Photoshop, they shouldn't even be selling that contraption as a scanner.
The workaround is to use a utility like VueScan (excellent value) or SilverFast (expensive).  Check to see whether your part-time scanner is supported by either of those.  Then you can even continue working in Photoshop while the scanning is being done in the background.
VueScan even puts a Scan menu item in Photoshop's Import menu.

  • CS3 will not print color pictures

Photo Shop will not print color pictures. It printed fine for over a year then just quit printing in color a few months ago.  A work around was given by our Higher head Quarters but when printing this way the pictures do not print properly and the pictures can't be adjusted or modified any.
Machines having this problem are running Windows XP.
What are the proper setting for this program?
Do I need a software update?

Check the updater and make sure you installed the updates for Photoshop CS3.
But most likely this is a configuration issue with your printer driver.
Many drivers do have settings that force black and white printing, overriding what the application sends to the driver.

  • Scanning from RX620 Epson -- no option to scan in jpeg ?

I am using Epson All i  one printer/scanner (RX620) & when I scan to  my computer  (OS X 10.9.3) to edit pictures I cannot default to jpeg ( not listed as option) the default is TIFF.
Epson have responded to my question saying that they have not issued a driver for the APPLE ... is  there any to overcome this.( I think this has only just recently happened as I can only remember scanning to a jpeg default ?

Try using the Image Capture app located in your Applications folder for scanning.
Launch Image Capture located in your Applications folder.
Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.
Click the very small black box bottom left side of the Image Capture window.
You'll see this pop up menu:   Connecting this (device) opens:
You can select a default app to scan (Image Capture) and select a folder from the Import To pop up menu on the right to save scanned files to.
If you need help with the Image Capture software, click Help from the Image Capture menu bar.

  • Trouble Downloading Raw photo files and JPEG photo files in CS5

PS CS5 will not download raw photo files and JPEG photo files. The software will not recognize these files coming from a Canon G12 camera. How can I remedy this situation?

It should recognize the jpg files, but witht the G12, you need to update your camera raw. I believe there is a version what will work with CS5 and the G12.

Yeah you shouldn't use ~ in general. That is a shortcut for "Your home directory."
This is not strictly true. ~ is a "meta-character" in Unix shells -- it is an instruction to the shell to substitute the path to a home directory. It only has meaning in a Unix shell command, and only if ~ is the first character in a file path name. Outside of a Unix shell ~ has no special significance (although other programs might adopt a similar convention).
I don't see any reason why Aperture would be doing tilde expansion, and if it is, it is doing it wrong. "March~May Asia Trip" is a perfectly legitimate name in both Mac OS and in Unix. There is nothing taboo about using ~ in a file name. This behavior (which I can confirm) is almost certainly an Aperture bug.
