Photo Settings Preview is black screen

I am unable to edit the Ken Burns effect on any still image in a slideshow. When I open the dialog the preview window is black. This is the same for all 50 or so images, but if I replace them with the originals, the new ones are fine... for a few minutes. The problem reoccurs. I have deleted all the normal files, including those for iMovie and QuickTime. I have also worked from another account as well as repaired permissions.
Any suggestions? Thank you.
Ken

Have you been parking your edited clips in the right-hand clips panel? My observation has been that once a clip (I'm talking about still images having been KB rendered) is moved to there from the timeline, it will no longer be editable.

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photos do not Appear in "Photo Settings" Preview

I am currently creating a "photo essay" (just a fancy name for slideshow) using iMovie. As this project contains no video, it is important that I use the "Ken Burns Effect"to make the slideshow interesting. However, after selecting a clip to edit, choosing "photos" from the media tab, and clicking "show photo settings," a black screen appears in the preview. This is odd because when I tried it in class, on this same machine, it worked just fine. Any input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    David.

iMovie 6 has quite a few bugs. One bug causes the preview of a previouslyimported photo to show black after emptying the iMovie Trash.

  • IPod Classic: Photos Issue: Photos on iPod Show Black Screen - Replicated!

Issue / My Solution related to format = PC / Windows
*FINALLY! I've replicated the issue where some random pictures in iPod photos show as a thumbnail, DON'T show when clicked with center button (instead a nice friendly black screen is shown) but DO show when you click the center button again to start Slide Show.*
Firstly, I'll start by saying that this was one of 4-5 issues that caused me to go to my local Apple store today & get my SECOND replacement (3rd iPod Classic; Black; 160 GB). It made me laugh when the technicians told me the truth; since Apple never preps even their own people for new products to possibly get trained on so that maybe they're more technically knowledgeable then their consumers when they go on sale, this store's approach has typically been 'Problem with a 6th Generation? Here's a new one'.
It's been a quick & easy way to satisfy customers while getting them no where, but they go home thinking their new unit will work, when in reality it was never a hardware issue.
Anyways, I exchanged 2 x 160 GB & 1 x 80 GB tonight for many of the same reasons, truthfully because I felt I'm due new units after the amount of times I've reimaged (restored) each by restoring all versions of the firmware software.
Many of you have experienced the photo issue I mentioned above before going off on my tangent, many of you may not have (yet).
Well, I'm 1,000% that I replicated this one:
*When restoring one of the iPods replaced, I conveniently noticed that the pictures which showed up blank on my iPod had illegal characters in their Windows Filenames.*
*These characters can include, but are not limited to:*
    *apostrophe ('); comma (,); period (.)*
*Again, the characters above are the only ones I've identified so far; granted that it should not ultimately be like this; the iPod should accept filenames containing these characters & if it can't or it's too hard for it to accept them, iTunes should display a warning to the end user to change the filenames with illegal characters.*
In conclusion, I'm about to unwrap my new 160 GB & sync it. I will avoid & hold off with the 1.0.2 update for as long as possible in hopes that a 1.0.3 comes out soon; especially since the only noticeable difference it made for me was a faster & more responsive & sturdy Cover Flow (don't even use anyways) + shuts off in my JBL Dock at work (replicated as a bug in 1.0.2; workaround: use PLAY, PAUSE & other controls on the unit itself, not with the dock or remote control on the dock.)
I learned my lesson the hard way & will definitely wait a few days until 1.0.3 is released to see how it really is by feedback posted here in this forum. For all you newbies, this is the best advice I can offer; don't bank on 1 or 2 posts, read a bunch. When you start seeing a pattern of problems, you know something can't be right. It's funny how you look at the post history of these updates (1.0.1 & 1.0.2 & you see all those who jumped to install post only the nicest things & the great enhancements they see, until a day later they're hit with the negatives of that build.
_*+--> Truth is,_ I can't believe Apple has gotten away without releasing 1.0.3 by now.+*
*+If this keeps up, I hate to say it, but their ratings will definitely go down the tubes (not being negative, just a realist).+*
    Any thoughts?

I don't think it's illegal file names. I've noticed that the file takes a while to "load" even when after you see the thumbnail in the main screen. A few back and forths and hearing the hard drive spinning finally confirmed that it would take a while for the pic to show up...extremely annoying, but a hard drive type issue methinks. Photos that show up once, don't show up again or take forever to do so and vice versa.
Not sure how this affects firmware as I'm not techy (I'm jazzy :)).
I'm going to let all my photos "fully load", and then try it again.
    I tried your method on 3 sixth generations with this issue (2 x 80gb & 1 x 160gb). I let them sit for 12 minutes; no picture.
Changed filename to remove a comma found in the names; then I sync it again & ALL BETTER.

  • Photo Booth has a black screen!!

Every time i go onto my Photo Booth it just comes up with a black screen and the clock constantly. I've tried restarting my computer etc. but it does nothing. I was thinking of taking it in to be fixed however I realised that my Face Time, Skype etc. still work as well??? Help!!!!

    Howdy livmp,
It sounds like you are trying to use PhotoBoot on your computer but the camera doesn't seem to be showing anything at all. I'd recommend you reset your SMC, then your PRAM in that order with these articles and then test it out again:

  • IAudit, Safari and Photo viewing crashing with black screen

I am new to this so please bear with me, having not received any form of support directly from Apple to date.
Having reviewed several issues with Sarai crashing I too have experience the same using my work apps, using photos (both taking and viewing), keyboard entry errors when typing within apps, and black screen issues when taking photos for iAudit app.
When any app "crashes" I am returned to the screen location of the app in use ( screen 1, 2, 3 etc) then have to restart the apps.
Closing the app and re opening is the only way to unfreeze to facilitate using the apps again.
I have used these apps for nearly 2 years now, and upgraded regularly including all iOS updates. Since iOS 7.0.4 update I believe these problems have started.
Has anyone got a fix or suggest a solution? I am not short of storage, and regularly download content to my work server (work process and requirement)
    Appreciate any assistance available.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • IPhoto 9 - Can't Edit photos. Only get black screen

Recently I went to edit some photos I have in iPhoto 9.  When I click on a thumbnail to edit, I get nothing but black.  When I show file, the jpg is there and it opens fine in preview. I tried the iPhoto Library Manager. Made a new library and then tried importing the photos from the existing library into the new one.  It said they were "Unreadable Files" Even though they are all jpgs.
Any ideas? I've rebuilt, etc with CNTRL OPTION.
Is this possibly because of software update to LION? I'm running 10.7.5 and have the latest updates.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Take photos off from broken (black screen) and locked iphone

I have iphone 5 and unfortunately LCD and digitizer are broken. I can not see my screen at all and it is all black. I want to take my pictures off from my iphone but when i am trying to connect to itunes it is saying  in order to take back up i have to unlock my phone. But i am not able to unlcok my phone since it is broken and screen is all black. I suspect my touch screen is not working as well. My phone is working when i press the home button siri answers as well.
I was able to retrieve photos from photo stream of icloud. But i had not shared my all photos in photo stream. There were only few photos in photo stream rest were in the album.
    Any help would be appreacited!!!

So I tried connecting it via iPhoto, but it doesn't show any photos in import panel (may be it is locked). I tried to get photos from icloud but again as i said it only gave me photos off from photo stream and not from photo album.

  • IMPORTANT PROJECT! Can't adjust photos in preview. all black

I am desperate. I have to have a project done with slides andmusic in the next couple of days and I have my newly installed Imovie 6 but it isn't letting me adjust slides. Some work okay, but some just show up blank in the preview. If I adjust them blindly, they seem to work, but I am scared to try to do this entire project and then have it not work. What do I do? Can I reinstall my last version of this software without losing what I have already completed? Please help me asap.

I've have the problem too. The only workaround that seems to work requires a realtime quick maneuver; however, the results aren't as sharp.
While the image is in the process of importing (i.e., the red progress line indicator is expanding), quickly select iMovie (to activate the program if you just dragged a photo from iPhoto or a folder somewhere), and then type Cmmd-Shift-S and it will capture a still image, which, in theory, should be the same; but in reality seems to be a tad blurry. But you do get the image, just not 100% quality.

  • I've been using Iphoto as a primary download program for years. As of today, when I click a thumbnail to open the photo, I get a black screen with an exclamation mark on some shots. Also, these shots can't be dragged into Adobe Bridge. Would love help!

I use Iphoto as my primary download tool, then drag images into Adobe Bridge. Just today, when I tried to open a photo by clicking a thumbnail, all I got was an image of an exclamation mark and I couldn't drag the shot either. These are images I've successfully opened and dragged before. I would love guidance from anyone who knows a fix for this. Thanks!  John

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    What version of iPhoto?
As Larry says, your workflow doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If you're using iPhoto only for downloading then you're best off using Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and just keep the whole database element out if it. If you're using iPhoto also to organise, then what are you using Bridge for? Anything you do in Bridge - or Photoshop - is unavailable in iPhoto if you work this way.

  • Photo Settings not showing up; cannot remove Ken Burns effect

    Hello,
Earlier today, I selected the photo setting button and a little box showed up with the Ken Burns effect options in it, however now when I select photo settings, the only thing that shows up is the preview of the of photo zooming/panning. Please help... how do I get back to that little box so I can remove the Ken Burns effect from my photos! Thanking you!

Also having the same problem. When going to show photo settings, it shows black screen. Un checking Ken Burns and updating does nothing. All photos in slide show have same super zoom of Ken Burns with no way to remove it or alter it.
iMovie HD broken, iMovie 08 ***... The only reason I purchased Mac was for handling media and I end up doing projects on my old pc using photoshop elements.

  • Opening large photo files produces black screen

When opening a small (less than a meg) photo, it works find. I'm able to move to the next file. If I open a large file (8-10 megs) it sometimes works fine however if I use the arrow to move to the next file in the folder I get a black screen. Also if I have a folder of many large photo files I can see all the thumbnail photos at a small size. If I try to increase the view size to large some will be black, however if I click on the file many times it opens fine, sometimes not.  It was working fine, just recently started to act up.  Using adobe photoshop I can open each file so I know they are there and not corrupt files.

  • Photobooth & iPhoto show black screen where photos should be??

My iPhoto shows a black screen whenever I click on a picture. I can't see the photo when I want to edit it and it does not let me enlarge any of the pictures.
Also, my Photo Booth shows a black screen where its supposed to show the webcam picture. If I click on the white space where the thumbnails of previous pictures are supposed to show up, it pops up a different screen with the pictures already taken. But, I still cannot see the webcam picture.
If anybody could help solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!!

You may have some damaged software.
If the problems are the same after restarting your Mac, reinstall Mac OS X 10.9.

  • IPhoto gives black screen when I try to use Slideshow or Edit

    Hi:
I have a new Powerbook Pro with Snow Leopard and iLife 09. I can see all of my photos in the library, but when I try to go to full screen view, or try to edit a photo, I get a black screen. For the full screen view, the thumbnails are aligned at the top of the screen if I move the cursor there, but the screen remains black where the photo is supposed to be. I tried rebuilding the library (option + control when launching iPhoto), and deleted the iPhoto plist file in the library - preferences folder, but the problem persists.
    Thanks

Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. +*The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.+*

  • MBA Black Screen - and ALWAYS is black (will not boot into OS)

I've read and done everything. Many are saying they are able to get a restart and change settings - but I can not get pas the black screen at all. I continue to do a hard restart, it goes to black screen. I use the control-option-shift-power, and it powers back to the gray screen, then black again. I do the command-option-p-r and it goes to gray screen then black. I can't get it into the OS to even change the settings.
I even tried the connection to a TV and it also is black. This is a constant cycle to the black screen.
I don't know what version the OS today, but I know I have updated once in the last 30 days, but not in the last 2 weeks (manually, I have not).
Any advice to get to the home OS screen, so I can adjust settings?

I booted into command-r to get to the Time Machine backup from Jan 25th of 2014. I have a screen that I can see, but when I restart (I have not restored from backup), it goes back to black screen. I AM WONDERING now if I should just restore, then work on the settings for the black screen ??
