What's the best way to share pictures between my iPhone ipad Apple TV and Mac mini and have them automatically saved to my Mac mini on a regular basis?

DVDs are encoded into MPEG2, which iMovie cannot edit. So you need to convert the DVD back to something else. For highest quality, I recommend that you convert the DVD to Apple Intermediate Codec. There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip that will do this. You will also need to install the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component.
Here are the details.
1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
3) Start MPEG Streamclip
4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically quit those.
5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to your DVD to the Video_TS folder.
6) Drag the .VOB files from the Video_TS folder and drop then into MPEG Streamclip.
7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
8) Use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like
9b) optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
11) Open iMovie.
12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/From File and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

I find that shared video can be troublesome, a few haven't appeared to work as you describe but have done when I've looked at a later date. Hopefully they will work if you give them a bit longer. perhaps it would be a good idea if you make sure they are working before deleting them from the camera roll.

IF you have successfully imported your pictures to your Mac http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 then it's safe to delete it from your phone.
If you want the pics back on your phone, just sync them back using itunes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

I shared a video with photo sharing and now it's no longer there. Why?

I took a video and then used photo sharing. When I went to go look at it later on, it was no longest there. My family received the notification and then could not access it either. Thoughts???

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).
You see the orange Firefox button if the menu bar is hidden (View > Toolbars).
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars" or "Firefox > Options"

Photo editing and saving. I'm doing something wrong

I import my photos from my camera and I then edit them. Lighten them, crop them, etc. Then I go to copy them to a CD and I get the original AND the edited version. I only want my completed work. What the heck am I forgetting to do? Thanks in advance

You are using the share burn (or burn in the tool bar) command - that creates a mini iPhoto library for use by iPhoto
If you just want the current version select the photo(s) and export (file menu ==> export) with kind = current (the default) to a desktop folder and then burn that folder to a CD/DVD

"iCloud Photo Sharing" and "Optimize iPhone Storage"

Before updating to iOS 8, my wife and I shared the same iCloud account. It was convenient for us to use the same Photostream, so pictures of our kids where always gathered together. But iOS 8 has too many features that make sharing same account troublesome, so we have finally split up (digitally...)
Our question is, if we share albums, will our iPhones also treat the pictures and videos in those albums the same way when it comes to Optimize iPhone Storage as those in camera roll? We have 10000+ pics and videos, so being able to stream those from iCloud instead of local storage would be fantastic...
If that's the case, is there a time or storage limit for how many items we can have as shared? Apple hasn't explained those terms very well, understandable, since these features are still in beta. I would be very grateful if someone out there has more insight on this.

I don't see a way to identify the new photos being added to smart album since I shared it last. iTunes' smart playlist allows you to do this easily. But don;t see a way to do it iPhoto.
It is not well supported. You would have to mark the photos you already published in some way, for example add them to a regular album or add a keyword, after you published the photos.
When you add new photos to the smart album, you can add a rule "and has not keyword 'publish'" to find only the new photos that need publishing.

Photo sharing and slideshow

In February I am putting together a giant national meeting with about 20 people being flown in from all over the place. One of the learning and development activities that I am putting together is a scavenger hunt/photo challenge situation. Basically each time they complete a challenge, they have to take a photo. They are in groups of 4 and I am expecting that at least one person in each group will have an iphone.
My thoughts are that one member of the group take the pictures on their phone. When the scavenger hunt ends, we will all be having dinner at our bosses house around the corner. My boss wants there to be a slideshow of all the pictures taken during the scavenger hunt. I found out that my boss has a Samsung TV. My question to you is…what is the best way to do this so it is quick and easy? I will have access to an Ipad if necessary. Also, if I wanted to take pictures with an actual camera, how can we integrate those photos as well?
I think I heard something about a shared album on iphones but I think that is only available if we are on wifi and I don’t know if Chateau Ste. Michelle winery will have wifi (that is where the hunt will be).
I can't spend any money on accesories. The process needs to be free. What are your thoughts?

No, you can't link the photos or it's caption on a photo page. They are created by javascript. The transparent shape is your only option which, as you know is fragile at best.
I would take the time to add the photos to a regular page, size them using the Inspector/Metrics pane to the same size and link them. You'll have a much more stable and cross platform compatible page that way.

Album sharing and saving

The process of creating an album is quite straightforward and results in a nice way to organize subsets of photographs.   They are easily viewed within PSE9 and will readily sync to my iPad.    However, when I try to save one to a dvd or to a hard drive I get a very curious result.   I get a plethora of files but they aren't viewable in any logical way.    I have created a dvd and when I look at the files, explorer shows about 20 mB of files but if I look at the properties of the dvd it shows about 280 mB.    I can't seem to just click on anything on the dvd to have the album display and when I put it in the dvd player I get a very strange menu with no good choices for viewing the album.
What I would like would be to use the album function to select the photos that I want to use but I don't need a template or any other enhancement.   I would like to keep a set of albums and put them on media players, burn cd/dvd's to give them to friends and post them to Picasa or Facebook.
Like everything else Adobe, this seems obtuse and non-intuitive.   Do I have the entire concept wrong?

Does keeping "my photo stream", "photo sharing", and "siri" always on drains my iphone battery?

Does keeping these features makes my iphone drain faster? I always use wifi and not 3g. If so, does it affect the battery life even if i have no wifi available?

No. Those features only use power when you are actively using them.

Sharing and saving iphoto libraries

My MacBook is about to die. I have found my iphoto library under shared libraries on my iMac. How do I save my whole iPhoto library to this computer?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
By default, the iPhoto Library lives in the Pictures Folder. Drag it from there to the iMac.

That's not a Location, it's just a list of Libraries. Work from the Pictures Folder.

Iphone 6 icloud photo sharing not working

Today I got an iphone 6, did all the updates, and tried to use the icloud photo sharing. I can create a stream, add photos, and invite people to view; however, when other people accept the invitation nothing shows up except "No Items" despite me sharing 50+ photos. Also, when the other person adds photos to the stream I don't see anything on my end.
How do I fix this?
