Photo sharing in Photos for mac

I suspect I know the answer to these questions but I thought it was worth asking, as any improvement in the way I sort my photos would help - I seem to go round in circles a bit!!!
- Because my photo library is bigger than my iCloud allowance (I have paid for 20GB but I don't want to go beyond that) I have set up a new library which just shows my Favourites (formerly 5 star) photos and made this the system library so it backs up across all my devices.
I still have my complete photo library and if/when I get spare time, export all the non-Favourites out of the favourites library into my complete library.
Q1 - What is the simplest way to move photos from one library to another.
My wife has a separate iCloud account so as far as I can see needs to have a seperate system library
Q2 - is this correct?
Q3 is there any way that photos flagged as favourites in my wife's library could find there way into my favourites library? Is it something macScript can be used for?
The common link with the 3 libraries - Complete, favourites & the wife's are that they all are accessible through the same mac mini (but on different log ins)
Any thoughts on how the process could be stream lined, apart from the obvious put your hand in your pocket option!
Thanks
Duncan

I had a similar problem with a script to change description that I just gave up on.
I tried my script on a new small test library with just a few pictures in it and the script worked but when I tried it on my main library
that was migrated from iPhoto with 33K pictures I had no luck, same error.
So if your script works on a small test library you may consider the following:
It was suggested to me that my library may have corruption then told to First backup my Library then run a repair on it. Option + CMD and click on Photos.
This did  NOT solve the error for me but maybe it will for you.

  • Photo journals on iPhoto for Mac

    Hi,
Will Photo Journals be added to iPhoto for Mac (and not only an IOS iPhoto feature)?
I used to use a lot the mobileme gallery, and the photo journals could be a great alternative.
    Thanks

    Antoine,
since we are only users here like you, we can only guess. Please send feedback to Apple, that you want journals.

  • How do I attach a photo from CS 5 (for Mac) in an e-mail?

I am a new Photoshop user ( for Mac). How do I attach a photo to an e-mail on the Mac ( using Apple's e-mail system)? How do I burn a photo to a CD? Thank you!

Photoshop is a professional image editing program. The features that you are expecting would likely be found in Photoshop Elements, a different program with a different forum.
Photoshop produces image files which you save somewhere on your computer. Then you use your mail program to attach those image files to a message. Photoshop is not an email program or CD burning program.

  • Syncing contact photos between Outlook 2011 for Mac and the rest

Hello, I installed Office for Mac 2011 and when it synced the contacts (through Exchange), most of the contact photos now no longer show in OWA or in Outlook 2013 from my Windows PC's. They are not lost: In Outlook 2013 (for windows) they appear instead
under "Notes", in the form of a thumbnail jpeg. On my Mac, however, the photos show up correctly. None of my windows accounts (e.g., windows phone) now show any photos any longer. I tried some troubleshooting: I deleted all my contacts from everything,
and imported them back to Outlook for Mac and synced them, but the photos still show only under "notes" in the Windows accounts.
How can I solve the issue? I see the same problem reported by other people, but I am not aware of a resolution.

    Hi,
I think we can go to the Microsoft Office for Mac forum:

  • Photo Shop Elements 9 for Mac

I have PSE 8 (and 4 & 6) on my iMac.  I have downloaded the trial version of PSE 9 for Mac to see if there is enough improvement to warrant the purchase.  I am using an external HD exclusively dedicated to photos.  There are over 6000 photos that were tagged and dated using various Windows versions of PSE, and I am adding more daily.  I use both Mac and Windows versions of PSE 8, since my Dell laptop uses Vista.  I have attempted to use the existing catalog from the external HD in the trial version of PSE 9 for Mac, but without success.  I used the "custom" button in Organizer Catalog Manager, browsed to the photo files, (the location shows on the left), but the "open" button remains grayed out.  What should I do to have PSE 9 for Mac recognize the existing catalog?
I will also upgrade the Windows version to PSE 9.  Will I have a similar problem getting it to recognize the existing catalog?
    Thanks

I want to share it between the Mac and my Dell laptop, which I take with me
when traveling.  That way I can load photos from the camera and tag them
while my memory is fresh, and then edit and print them from the Mac, which
has a very nice large screen.  I use an external USB HD for file storage so
it plugs easily into both machines.  In the past I kept an older Windows
version of PSE on the Mac using VM Ware since there was no Organizer in the
Mac versions of PSE.  I would use the Windows version of Organizer to
identify the files I wanted and then open them in PSE 8 for Mac to edit.
Hopefully, with Organizer included in PSE 9 for Mac I can save those extra
steps, as well as free up space on my internal HD.
Are you the author of my great "Missing Manuals"?  I have both the Mac and
Windows versions, and both have gotten a lot of use.  If you are, doubly
    thanks.

  • Issue with Photo Sharing on iPhoto on Mac

Hellp everyone, this is my first time posting on the Apple Support communities. I have been having issues with my Photo Sharing on my Mac (Iphoto 11). I recently was on vacation and wanted to share the photos with my girlfriend and a few family members. I uploaded my photos to Iphoto on my mac and then went to Share, Photo Stream, and then crated a Photo Stream of our vacation. It asks me to name the photo stream and invite people. When I click on ok it creats the photo stream and the people I invited get invitations to join the photo stream, however, when I go to look at the photo stream there is no photos in it and none of the people i invited see any of the photos either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

    SOLVED!
I had the same question.  Visited this thread and was disappointed to hear the feature was gone.
Then I thought it just COULDN'T be.  So I kept tapping.  AND FOUND IT!
Basically, when you are in your Photos App, as a previous poster said, it now divides your photos into "Moments".  These moments are arragned by Place and Date.
Wherever it says the name of a place, just tap the name of the place (above the tiled thumbnails of the pics taken in that place) and you will be taken to a map, centered on the Moment in question.  Use finger gestures to zoom in and out, and you will see the pics you have taken, georeferenced and tagged to the locations you took them, as before (except now in IOS7 it uses Apple Maps, not Google).

  • TS3989 I had photos on my camera roll on my old phone, bought a new one and selected those photos to be a shared photo stream but when I sent it to my wife and opened it on my new phone it says there are no photos shared - these photos are more than 30 da

Just bought a new iPhone 5 and wanted to send pics from my camera roll on my iphone 4 as a shared photo stream to my new phone and my wife's phone.
I selected the pictures and created the photo stream and it showed up on my new phone and she was able to accept invite, but when opened the stream contained 0 photos and a message that says "No Shared Photos"
These pictures were admitedly older than 30 days. Is that the rule that pictures from your camera roll older than 30 days cannot be shared as photo stream?
I apprecaite all guidance on this issue. For those answering - yes everything else photostream wise is connected and working so there's no issue with setup - my question simply is can a user upload photos older than 30 days from the camera roll to a shared photostream?
    Thank you

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
30 days is only applicable to My photostream and even then it applies from the time they were added not mwhen they were taken (unless it's the same time)
I'd be inclined to restart your wife's phone and see if that helps, otherwise you might try turning photostream off and on again on her phone.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Photo Elements 8.0 for Mac

I am reseting my Mac to factory and want to be able to restore my photo elements. Where can I find it?

Did you purchase a download of the software?  Otherwise you should have a box somewhere which contain the install files.
You can try the following steps to see if you have a download available to you for Photoshop Elements 8.
Go to the Adobe Store for your country and sign in with your Adobe ID and password.
Click My Orders and then click Your Downloads.
Click Download for the product you want to download, and then do one of the following:
Click Download and follow the onscreen instructions.
Click Akamai Download Manager and follow the onscreen instructions.
Click Alternate Download Method, and then click the .7z and .exe files (Windows) or the .dmg file (Mac OS) to download the software to your computer.

  • DVD or CD Sharing Setup Update for Mac

    Hi
I installed the DVD or CD Sharing utility that comes on the MacBook Air installation DVD on Tiger. Is there any way that my other iBook G4 (running OS 10.4.11 as well) can see the shared drive on my network? Is Leopard the only version that can see the shared drive?

That's exactly the software I installed.
You see, I'm trying to make a backup of the second iBook. This other iBook has a combo drive and I would like to use the superdrive of the computer where I installed the software so that I may use DVD-Rs rather than way too many CD-Rs. I know the software works since it's Apple's own and I do get to turn on the drive sharing in the System Preferences panel. However, I can't get the other Mac (the one without the superdrive) to see the shared drive on the network.
Am I missing something? Is there anything else I need to do before I can see the drive on the network?

  • Photoshop Elements upgrade for Mac in near future?

I use Aperture but would like an application to complete more sophisticated changes to a photo. Photoshop Element for Mac is one version behind the Windows version and the Mac version is about 18 months old. Has anyone heard if there is an updated version of Photoshop Elements due for the Mac in the near future?
    Thanks

In case you haven't already heard, Elements 8 is now out. I downloaded it a couple of days ago and it works great. Be sure to check out the system requirements to make sure you have the setup to use it.

  • PSE for MAC and iPhoto - where to put files

I am new to PSE4 and Bridge. I have used iPhoto for about a year, and have thousands of pictures in the iPhoto Library. I want to use Bridge and Elements to tweak my photos from now on. But, I want to use iPhoto5 for some things, such as emailing photos, creating web pages for .mac, creating slideshows on DVD for TV use, etc.
My question is this: does anyone else use both? What is your method/workflow for bringing files (RAW for me) from the camera to the computer - iPhoto or Bridge?
Right now, iPhoto opens every time I plug my Nikon in, I close iPhoto, then open Bridge.
One of my worries is that if I open and save with Bridge, I have to import the photos into iPhoto to create anything there. I believe this will cause me to have doubles of every file I use in both programs. Since I am pushing 2000 for total photos, I would be using a lot of HD space.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

You can change your preferences for what happens when you connect your camera (card reader) to your Mac within Image Capture Preferences. If you set it for Image Capture you can then direct your images to a folder of your choice wherever you want it to be.
When you want to import specific images to iPhoto you can import them from the folders under File>Add to Library. In addition, if you have the iPhoto application open when you have your card reader connected for downloading to your folders, you can also copy them to iPhoto if you want as well.
BTW, 2000 photos is not considered a lot for the digital world. That's a day's shooting for some! You might want to consider an external hardrive for storing some of your images so you don't feel so constrained for space on your computer. It's a good idea in general for backing up file anyway.

  • Cant get to photos so nothing but .MAc any good for photo sharing anymore !

It seems that as we cannot access the photos (easily) in iphoto 08 as it is in package that any photo sharing except .Mac is pretty well useless.. Is this correct ???
I have Flicr, Photobucket Picasa and Koffeephoto online photo sharing accounts and now I cannot upload to these because Apple seems to want hide our photos in a package . Funny that it works with .MAC but I am not paying for this service when alls I need has been available free for quite a while and my friends go there to see my photos. It almost feelings like I am being forced towards .Mac because of this.
Are other people having the same upload hassles to these other accounts because of this or is there an easy way to get this to work. I really hope I am not going to be forced to open the package and copy photos out of it and then go through the services upload programs. Have I missed something ?
    Thanks

There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
There are plug-ins for exporting directly to Flickr, perhaps there are for the other sites too. Search on MacUpdate
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
