Photo sharing replacement for mobileme galleries

HI all,
I'm sure there are others out there, like me, who built their entire gallery strategy on using Apple's "mobileme galleries," and now you have had to find a replacement for that becuase as we all know....There will be no replacement for Galleries in iCloud, you'll need to find another service to host your photos.
So..what have you people done to solve the issue.
I'd love to know. I am still using iWeb and have a host for my site, but I need something to get some galleries on display. I used to love using the  "mobileme galleries" and really miss that so much. It was so elegant and simple.
If there are any suggestions you can share, please fire away.
Thanks in advance, and so long for now, TOM

The following if from iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What resolution are My Photo Stream photos?
On your Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your Photo Stream photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

  • Stop checking for MobileMe galleries

Help! My Aperature has frozen, continually checking + updating "MobileMe Galleries".  I went to Aperature>Preferences>Web to uncheck the box for "Automatically check for newly published albums" but the spinning ball of death won't let me uncheck it.
I can't use Aperature at all.  Have Force Quit a few times.  Have restarted computer too.

Does this standard procedure not work?
Force quit Aperture, if it is still running.
When the "MobileMe" panel appears, select "learn more", not "ok". Ignore the web page, that will appear.
In Aperture open the Preferences, go to the "Web" panel accounts pane and delete the "MobileMe" account.
If this does not work, disconnect from the internet before lauching Aperture (disable Wi-fi or unplug the ethernet cable). Then proceed as above.
Aperture should have stopped nagging by now, since it is no longer possible to migrate the MobileMe contents. If all fails, open the User library in the Finder (Finder menu bar > Go, hold own the alt/option key, until "Library" appears in the menu, select "Library")
    Remove the file:
    Your User Library > Preferences > com.apple.Aperture.plist
from the "Preferences" folder to the Desktop.
    Also clear the file
    Your User Library > Caches >com.apple.Aperture > mmsunset.plist
    from the Aperture caches.
Post back, if this does not help.
    Regards
    Léonie

It has been a great way to share photos with my family overseas, and the new service is a poor replacement. Suggestions?

The newest version of iPhoto for iOS 5.1 allows you to create Web based "Journals". The feature is not yet available for the OS X version of iPhoto.

  • Password Protection for MobileMe Galleries

I want to have per friend a different login that I can apply on a MobileMe gallery, however it seems only to take 1 per gallery. Did I miss something ?
It seems as if it is only taking one user&password combo per gallery. However this would limit people very much in managing the access rights to different galleries.
For Example, Friend A should only see Galleries A, B with their login
Friend B should only see Galleries A and C with their login
Friend C should only see Galleries A, C and D with their login
How can it be done ?

Here is how I understand it to work.
If Friend A should only see Galleries A, B then you give that friend the username and password for Galleries A & B only.
If Friend B should only see Galleries A and C, then you give that friend the username and password only for Galleries A and C only
    And so forth.
You can only assign 1 user name and 1 password per gallery. So it's not necessarily a persons name and a specific password for that person only, it's a username and password specific only to that gallery.
You can however assign the same user name and password to more then 1 gallery.
For example, maybe you have galleries that only family members should see. You could assign a username of "Family" and a password of "only" to all of the galleries that you want only your family members to access That way they wouldn't have to remember a bunch of different user names and passwords for all the different galleries, they would only have to remember 1 user name and 1 password.
    Does that help at all?

  • Does anyone know how to access the new photo sharing in iCloud?

In the keynote, at the end of the iPhoto for iPad demo, there was a brief demo of a new iCloud feature that would allow sharing of photos to a web link.  I'm confussed as to whether this is only in the iOS iPhoto app or, if as stated a new feature of iCloud, should it be a new feature of iPhoto 9 as well?  Has anyone tried this?  Is this Apple's replacement for MobileMe's iWeb and iPhoto's Gallery?  If so, hooray!
    G-N

It's available only in iPhoto for iOS; it's no know whether there is any intention to add it to iPhoto for Mac at a later stage.
The method for using it is detailed here:

  • Metadata stripping MobileMe galleries

It was bought to my attention that both Aperture and iPhoto when using the MobileMe galleries with the download option that metadata is lost when photos are downloaded.
This is really incredibly poor design. Thus just encouraging more orphaned photos floating about. Clients download photos and in doing so lose a significant amount of information from the metadata including the copyright box.
Is there a fix coming or something I have missed? MobileMe makes this a one click and incredibly easy but I can't use this with this flaw. I'll have to go with PhotoShelter as delivery system.

    Answering my own question ...
It appears to be a DNS problem/issue with Safari or MobileMe or my ISP or a combination of them.
I always use my ISP's DNS servers. But trying some others show the problems. Google's are slow, but Open-DNS is as fast as Firefox. (I wonder if Firefox are doing some sort of DNS juggling internally?). Using Automatic and the router for DNS is slow too.
(BTW ... I had already reset Safari etc.)
The issue for Aperture remains though, in that it is supplying an erroneous/out-of-date URL for MobileMe galleries.

  • MobileMe Galleries Slow and address redirected

I use MobileMe galleries increasingly with Aperture. They have worked well and are fast and easy.
In the last few days, I have noticed a serious slow down with viewing galleries in Safari. Specifically, I've noticed that the page loads almost completely (slowly) then redirects to a very slightly changed name. So where the page address as shown in Aperture is for example : http://gallery.me.com/membername100123 ... it starts to load this page (slowly) then when almost done, redirects to this page : http://gallery.me.com/membername#100123. Note the '#' character. This page also loads incredibly slowly. By slow I mean at around 10KBs to 40KBs.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what is happening? Anyone else seeing the same thing?
Why is Aperture creating incorrectly addressed galleries? Any suggestions about how to fix this?

  • Internatinal mobileme galleries?

    Hi,
Does iPhoto support any other languages than english for web galeries?
I have tried to change my application settings to french to see if that would help.
I do get french menus for iPhoto but it does not affect the language of the mobileme gallery.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Remove MobileMe Galleries

I demoed a mobileme account for a little and while I was doing that I uploaded some albums from iPhoto to a gallery. In the end I decided I didn't want to keep the account and canceled it. the problem is I canceled it before removing the mobileme galleries in iPhoto and now when I try to delete them from iPhoto I get an error that iPhoto can't connect to mobileme. Any ideas??
    Thanks for the help.

  • Placing watermarks in MobileMe galleries

Is there any way to apply watermarks to images in a MobileMe gallery? It's a very convenient way to get images up quick and easy but I can find no way of setting the export preferences specifically for MobileMe galleries.
    Has anyone found a way?

the INTERNAL number scheme is indeed 'mysterious' ..
    but:
'gallery.me.com/dwayne' doesn't show any numbers, but the names you gave your projects..
same when you click on a video: on top, we read the Project's name, not #10098 etc.
and: there is a brief description underneath..
when you link to your video, "gallery.me.com/dwayne#100099', ANY website allows to 'hide' the URL like that click
    finally:
iMovie is part of iLife .. +I'd like to make it easy for them+ ...
=> create a simple _website with iWeb_
you can show thumbnails as preview, add shorter or longer descriptions and can easiely 'structure' your offer, creating subsites etc..
.. and your audience doesn't have to care for number-schemes..

  • HT201317 I have a MobileMe account and have shared many MobileMe Galleries.  MobileMe Galleries are going away in June.  How can I share a photo album with others using iCloud?

I have a MobileMe account and have shared many MobileMe Galleries.  MobileMe Galleries are going away in June.  How can I share a photo album with others using iCloud?

The new ios version of iPhoto allows sharing.  Here's a blurb from Apple's web site:
There’s the old way of creating photo galleries, then there’s the iPhoto way. Select a group of photos and iPhoto automatically flows them into a beautiful journal that’s fun to personalize and share online. Touch a photo to make it bigger or smaller. Or drag it to a different spot on the screen. iPhoto adjusts the page around whatever you’re doing, so your journal always looks great. You can even add captions, maps, dates, and weather — giving family and friends the big picture at a glance.
    More things you can do:
With iPhoto, there’s more than one way to share a photo. Post pictures directly to Facebook, Flickr, or Twitter. Play an impromptu slideshow on your iPad or iPhone. Or stream photos to your HDTV to give your big moments room to shine.
I have not used ios version of iPhoto to share "journals" and I'm not sure this is part of iCloud or not.  You'll have to do a google search on "ios iphoto" and read up of this journal thing.  As far as I know, this is the only way of sharing photos.  I'm not sure whether other friends use a browser to view these journals or whether they need something special.  Any way - search around to find answers.

  • HT4890 Is there a substitute for MobileMe Photo & video galleries...online?

Does anyone know if there is a substitute for MobileMe Photo & Video Galleries, that have been available online for me for the last 5 years to store and send via email at anytime to anyone?

Apple evidently took a deliberate decision not to provide general file storage in the manner of iDisk and there is no suggestion that they intend ever to restore it. There are plenty of other solutions - this page examines some options:
    http://rfwilmut.net/missing3
As to PhotoStream, you can share selected pictures in it using iOS6, and iPhoto for iOS5 includes the facility to publish a 'Photo Journal' picture gallery to web pages hosted on iCloud. This facility is not available on Macs. Apple have provided a sample album here.

  • Now that the photo gallery in MobileMe is ending, is there another photo sharing site to which existing iPhoto albums can be transferred as is, with photos in the same order and with titles, and with minimal problems?

Now that the photo gallery in MobileMe is ending, is there another photo sharing site to which existing iPhoto albums can be transferred as is, with photos in the same order and with titles, and with minimal problems?

No. If you don't have the album you originally used to create the galleries you can do so by dragging the photos from each gallery to a new, empty album. Then when you find the photo sharing site/option you have decided on  you can easily upload each album to the site.
Another option is to obtain a hosting service and create iWeb photo pages for each album and future albums similar to this photo page in one of my demo sites: iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow.  Or you can use the iWeb album page and have an album for each  iPhoto album on it like on this demo page: Page-7 .

  • IWeb - looking for replacements for 'blog' & 'photos'

With a deep Sigh..., I am finally facing up to the fact that I must move my iWeb Websites to another hosting sight and deal with the loss of the intergrated blog & photo pages that come with iWeb.  I kept hoping for a miracle but now I must get on with it.  I would be grateful for advice from those who have dealt with this issue already.
My biggest concern is finding suitable replacements for the blog and photo galleries that can be embedded into iWeb having a matching 'look and feel'.
I have developed many robust (well of 50) websites with iWeb and they are active websites.   The websites have:
Custom layouts (i.e. not using the suppled defalut template)
Blog pages (used as 'News' entries)
    Photo pages
    iMovie
    HTML Snipits
Many have been designed for use with charity events and recieve quite a bit of traffic (see stats below) before and during the event.
As for the hosting - we will use GoDaddy or other Domain Provide with Hosting services.   We have already moved some of the more less complicated websites over.
I love iWeb (I know it has it's faults and I have probably pushed it to it's limits but it has handled it well).  I have tried looking at other products like Rapidweaver & Freeway Pro (Dreamweaver would be out of the question for me as I'm not a programmer - I can deal with some basic html code for snippets and such - but that's my limit).  My partner has begun looking at Wordpress.  However, the biggest drawback from what I've seen from these other products is that I can't duplicate the freedom and ease of designing a template/layout the way I want it.  I have tried to duplicate a website I have done in iWeb and I simply can't do it with these other products (at least without a great deal of work - if at all).
So, I wish to continue using iWeb for the main website desgin but desparately need to find good replacements for the blog and photo galleries to move over my existing websites.
    Please HELP!
This is my 1st time up on the forums so I do apologise if this has been dealt with before.  In my searches - I just haven't really found an answer which is why I'm submitting this question.
    Many thanks, MichelleSC
P.S. I have been an Apple user since Apple began and have always raved about their products.   This is the 1st time I have been frustration with Apple.  I really wish they would continue to develop iWeb and keep Mobileme.

Do you have visitors post comments to your blog or it is one the only includes your entries?  If it's the atter then you can continue to use the iWeb blog. If you currently have visitors comment on the entires you will have to move to a new blogging system, one of those suggested by Ethmoid and Jeff.
As for photo albums I've just run across a new site called ZangZig which offers albums similar to MobileMe galleries with most of it's features plus one that MMe didn't have.  The capability of selling your photos.
One convenient feature of it is that it can move/copy photos from your existing MMe galleries as well as your iPhoto library and other sources:
As for for iWeb can do after MMe is gone read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.  There's a link in the tutorial to download the file that one needs to be edited and replaced in existing slideshows and in the iWeb application for future slideshows. Once replaced in the application it's back to life as usual for iWeb.

  • Journals to become MobileMe Galleries' replacement?

I played around with iPhoto for iPad and in particular the Journals feature, which is quite cool. I've got some issues but I guess that's to be expected with a v1.0.
It struck me that Journals could be the replacement for the MobileMe Galleries I was so sad to loose.
But to really replace Galleries, the following should happen:
Published journals should be browsable from icloud.com as the galleries are from me.com. Currently, the only way to reach them is to use the cryptic links generated by iPhoto.
The journals feature should be integrated in iPhoto on Mac OSX, where it would make even more sense.
The journals should be browsable on the AppleTV, as the MobileMe galleries currently are.
I think the above has a reasonable chance to happen. What worries me is that full iCloud compatibility may require a new version of iLife & OSX, which would left out a lot of users not equipped with the latest and coolest machine, given the Mountain Lion hardware requirements.
Hopefully, iLife '12 will still work on Lion, and, who knows, Apple may even provide a last update for the 1st gen AppleTV.

I have a couple of questions for those that have downloaded iPhoto for iOS and have played with the Journals features:
    1. When viewing the Journal can the person download it to save on their computer? Can they download individual photos instead of the complete journal?
    2. How big are these journals and do they count towards your iCloud space limit?
In regards to these being a replacement for Galleries it seems to be a start but besides the missing features mentioned already I would also add the ability to upload videos. Galleries was a great way to share photos but also a great way to share videos without limitations (just space). All other websites that I have looked at to replace galleries have limit on size and length of the video.
