Photo sharing with iLife apps

Hi all,
I'm a fairly new mac user (macs are awesome by the way!) having a few problems with iPhoto 6.
When I import photos (originally batch named and keyworded on a PC version of Picasa) something happens to the photo library that makes it unviewable by all the other iLife apps...
I read somewhere that an '&' sign in a file name could cause problems, so I used automator to rename all the files taking out any non alpha-numeric characters. But those same files still caused the same problem (I've built and deleted about 20 libraries in iphoto in the last fortnight trying to isolate the problem).
Basically what happens is: import a few photos, the library can be seen in other apps but then import certain folders of photos and the library disappears in those apps (imovie, i web etc)!
The only other thing I can think of is that the keyword's are problematic somehow? But iPhoto doesn't allow a user to permanently remove keywords...
Any suggestions?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The problem is in the albumdata.xml file. This is usually caused by a bad keyword in your iPhoto library. Non-ascii characters, returns, and spaces can trigger the problem. One user had a blank keyword that wasn't visible in the list; once she deleted it the problem was resolved.
To help pinpoint the bad keyword, you can look at the xml file. Compare it to Dave E.'s description in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3870956?. If you see a similar error, go back to your keywords list in iPhoto and either delete or rename the offending keyword.
You change the keywords in iPhoto's Preferences. There you can rename, add, delete , or reorder the keywords on your list.

  • PHOTOS is not Photo Sharing with my other devices.

PHOTOS is working but Photo Sharing is not. I can't create a new iCloud photo sharing album and Photos is not in the Photostream "loop" with my iPad and phone although all are signed into the same apple id. help.

To fix this you need to be on a separate iCloud account (when you share and account, you share your photo stream).  To migrate your phone to a separate account, start by saving any photos not in your camera roll to your camera roll by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward pointing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted, then sign back in with a separate Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.  (Deleting the account only deletes it from your phone, not from iCloud.  Your mom's phone wont be effected by this.  Also, you can continue to share the same ID for iTunes and App Store purchasing, it doesn't need to be the same as your iCloud ID.)  Once you are on a different account, your photo stream will be no longer be merged with your mother's.

  • Photo sharing with Apple TV fails with large library over 20000 photos

Apple TV 2nd gen user for several years and enjoy photo sharing and viewing my library on the big screen.  I shared two folders under My Pictures, one less than 500 pics remained stable and the other folder grew by several hundred photos every few month. Once the total number of photos to share reached almost 20,000 photos, Apple TV failed to launch into slideshow through the menu.  It basically jumped out to the main menu after clocking for several minutes.
So, I tried splitting the large folder into two separate folders (10K photos each) and reset the home sharing option in iTunes to point to three folders, instead of two, with the same total exceeding 20,000 pics.  The ATV seems to recognize the folders, and the count is correct, but I am still unable to get slideshow to launch.  It's as if I passed a threshold.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks.

    I've solved the problem.
In Photos, Select Preferences.  In the General Tab, make sure that the path to your external Photos library shows in the Library Location.  Then click on the Use as System Library Photo Library button.
In iTunes 12.1.12, you will now be able to select your specific albums as before.
I updated my Apple TVs to the latest updates.
The specific photo albums can be accessed in Apple TV now.

  • Family Sharing with different App Store countries

    Hi,
I am registered with the UK App Store (my credit card being issued by a UK bank). I have invited other family members, who live in another nation and are with that nation App Store, to join my Family Sharing. As they tried to accept my invite, they were prompted to switch to the UK App Store, which apparently they cannot do because they have a different nation credit card. I searched the internet for clarification on this point, having had no luck I decided to post here.
I am trying to establish the following facts:
    - Can one person with account in country A join family member invitation from country B?
    - If that is possible, would it be possible for person in country A to keep purchasing content from country A store (with his local credit card rather than the master card which is registered in country B)? This would be the problem with movies which, if purchased on country B, will be in a different language that those available in country A.
Thanks in advance to whomever is able to shed some light on this matter!
    Best,
    Massimo

I'm afraid you can't.  All family members must use the same iTunes store country or region.

  • ITunes library not included in media browser, can't share with iLife apps

My iTunes library is no longer included in my media browser previews in other iWork and iLife applications. Not sure when it disappeared, but I know it used to be there! Only recent changes I can think of are I recently migrated all data and accounts on my old iMac to the new iMac using Migration Assistant and I also recently changed the location of the iTunes library from an external drive back to the internal drive. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on here?
    Your help is much appreciated!

Sorry to update the status, but I've also noticed that my iPhoto, iMovie and Aperture libraries are not being shared in the media browser either. I'm thinking OS X is looking in the wrong place for these libraries as a result of the Migration to the new Mac for some reason, but I really don't know. Any help?

  • ATV photo sharing with iTunes 11 and windows 8???

I just got my ATV set up to share media with my iTunes library on my home PC.  I also got the airplay mirroring to function with my ios devices, but I can't seem to get any of my photos to show up from my PC library.
The support FAQ's are out of date and reference iTunes 10.x
Within iTunes 11 using win 8 there are no menu options so to speak.

Do you already have installed Windows 8 Media Center? The Media Center contains missing features which are needed by iTunes 11. Details could be found on my blog.

  • Photo sharing with FB in IOS 7

Since downloading IOS 7, I can no longer share photos from my iPhone 5 to Facebook and there is no option in my privacy settings to change this as there should be. I've deleted the app from my phone twice and then reloaded to see if it would fix it but no luck. Any ways to fix this?

  • Migrating iLife apps from new iMac to G5 machine with Leopard

I bought the iMac which came with iLife and then built up a dual proc G5 to do music and video on. I don't want to have to buy a copy of iLife since I already have it but really want Garage Band, Movie Maker and iDVD on the G5. I started to migrate these with Migration Assistant but it didn't give me an option to choose just those apps. Is there a problem with me migrating all apps and then just deleting the ones I don't need on the G5? I assumed this would move the licenses for the apps from the iMac to the G5. Can someone confirm if the Migration effectively uninstalls the app on the machine it's being migrated from?
I'm not interested in making a copy of these three apps and am happy to delete them from iMac once moved over but it's not clear to me that this will work (even thought guys as the Apple store said I could do it).
    Thanks

The short answer is probably no.
I have 2 imacs both Intel.
I was having a problem with iLife apps on my older imac and so I dumped the iLife apps to reinstall them.
I inserted the install disk for my newer imac and it refused to allow me to install from that disk.
I used Pacifist and it worked for all apps except iPhoto which would not work properly even after several attempts.
I located my iLife 08 disk and it installed fine.
Despite the fact that most of the iLife apps seemed to install using Pacifist, they were suspect so I installed them all afresh from the ILife 08 disk.
The last thing I need is a program that may screw up and lose some of my photos, movies or compositions, especially when the package is reasonably priced.

  • How can I reset my MacBook Air to factory settings that will delete all 3rd party apps and wont delete my data and iLife apps?, How can I reset my MacBook Air to factory settings that will delete all 3rd party apps and wont delete my data and iLife apps?

I gave my MacBook Air to a person to use for a while, and now I got it back. I want it to be good as new before I start using it properly. Its okay if I lose data but I dont want to lose the Apps that were onboard. I want to start all over again.
    Thanks

Assuming you don't have a Time Machine backup before you lent your MacBook out, then you've a few choices.
If you want to set it back to the day you got it, then if it's Snow Leopard, use the micro USB stick that came with your Mac and after boot from it ( hold the Option key on startup) select the USB stick and when booted from it, go to Disk Utility and reformat the HD then install SL. when it's done and started in 10.6, select the install Applications from the USB stick, then your back with iLife apps etc.
If Lion, restart from the Recovery Partition as per the instructions above except you don't need anything plugged into the Mac, select Recovery and again DU erase and install Lion. once Lion is installed the iLife apps will be available to download from the App store as your MacBook will be recognised as coming with these apps.
WARNING, both these methods remove ALL user data

I want to set up photo sharing with my Apple TV.  When I go to Advanced in iTunes I find sharing options, but iTunes will not let me choose "Selected albums, events, faces"  That option is gray.  All I can choose is "All photos......"  What am I doing wrong?  OS 10.7.5  iTunes 10.7

Have you tried to share a journal instead of a photo stream? Then you can create a webpage with your pictures and send the link to the web page, see iPhoto for iOS (iPad): Share your journal as a webpage

  • HT202786 icloud photo sharing missing location data

I have created a shared album using iCloud photo sharing with a friend. When I share some pictures from Photos on iPhone 6 with my friend using also iPhone 6 though tie shared album the pictures do not show the location data (geotag/map info). help me!

I have the same issue: the Shared tab shows zero content, even though I have dozens of shared albums in PhotoStream (all visible from my other devices, actually). I'm using iCloud Drive for photos on my MacBook Air and iPhone, but on my main desktop computer (Mac Mini) I opted to keep using PhotoStream. I'm thus wondering if that's part of the problem?
I'm using iCloud Drive for photos on my secondary devices, but on my main desktop device I have just about 1 TB of photos, and iCloud storage is WAY too expensive for that. (By contrast, OneDrive can handle my photo backups as a part of my 365 subscription.) Maybe I should turn iCloud Drive off on all devices and go back to my old system and see what happens. But I'm curious what sort of scenarios are causing the missing Shared Albums for other people.

I had to re-install OS X recently and lost iPhoto and other ilife apps. Do I have to buy them now?, I had to re-install OS X recently and lost iPhoto and other ilife apps. Do I have to buy them now?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
This is normal. OS X doesn't come with iLife apps, so you have to reinstall them after reinstalling Mac OS X.
If your Mac came without DVDs or you purchased it after July 2011, you have to install the iLife applications from the Mac App Store. Open the Mac App Store, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and download GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto free of charge.
If your Mac came with DVDs and you didn't purchase the iLife apps in the Mac App Store, insert the Applications DVD and install the iLife apps. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest iLife applications version

  • Strange behaviour of iPad Photos app/My Photo Stream with iOS 8.1 and Yosemite

My requirement is surely simple and commonplace, yet is proving impossible to achieve thanks to Apple's weird design of the Photos app and the way My Photo Stream works.  I'm very technically savvy, but I'm quite prepared to admit I'm being stupid if someone can explain what I'm doing wrong!  I have an iPad Air running iOS 8.1 and a MacBook Pro Retina with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).  I've enabled iCloud Drive on both.  iPhoto on the Mac is at v9.6.
I have a selection of 109 photos from a recent holiday in a folder on my MacBook, which I would like in a folder on my iPad as a nice way to show them to friends.   iTunes may work but seems so incredibly clunky and old-fashioned I hoped I could do it over the network or via the cloud.  I would use (and often have used) Dropbox, which is reliable and logical but rather tedious as you have to save each photo one by one.
So, with a little research and playing around, I found that I could get them to the iPad using iPhoto on the Mac, with My Photo Stream enabled.  However, it doesn't seem to work.  The photos were all created yesterday so had yesterday's date (I'd removed EXIF data that contained various earlier dates).
I've just done the following test:
I deleted all photos from the iPad (using the Photos app)
On the Mac, I deleted all photos from iPhoto
In iPhoto Preferences on the Mac, I turned on “My photo stream”, with the two sub-options also enabled
I imported the 109 photos into iPhoto
On the iPad, in My Photo Stream, I saw the photos gradually appear over the next few minutes
A  minute or two later, when no more seemed to coming, I found that 103 of the original 109 were in My Photo Stream.  So, strangely, 6 photos were missing
Even stranger, in the “Photos” tab, under “Yesterday” 37 of them could be seen.  If I understand this correctly (which I may not), that means 37 of them had been copied from the My Photo Stream to the iPad itself.  Am I right?  Why only 37?
On the iPad, I added a new Album called Summer 2014
I selected all 103 photos from My Photo Stream to add to the album
In the Summer 2014 album, I briefly see “103 Photos” at the bottom of the album, but this quickly changes to 66 as photos that briefly appeared now disappear, leaving only 66 left in the album
Checking in Photos/Collections/Yesterday, I find there are now 66 photos (rather than 37 as there were earlier) - the same ones that are showing in my Summer 2014 album.
If I attempt to manually add any of the missing photos to the album, nothing happens - the album refuses to allow any more than the 66 it has.
In iPhoto on the Mac, if I click on the SHARED/iCloud entry on the left, I see all 109 photos, which I think means iPhoto has correctly shared them all, so I suspect the problem is with the iPad.
Yesterday, when I was playing with this, the album allowed 68 photos.  I tried deleting one and adding one of the missing photos, but it wouldn't allow this either, so I don't think it's objecting to the number of photos so much as disliking particular ones.
I've got 7.7GB free space on the iPad so I don't think it's a space issue.
Can anyone help?  If it's a bug in iOS, iCloud or OS X, how can I report it, given that I'm out of my 3 months support for both my machines?
    Thank you!

Well done lumacj! This is a good workaround. Forgive me if I offer a simplified version here (this works if original photos are in Photo stream):
    1. In "My photo stream", tap on select at top of screen
    2. Tap on each photo you want to send via WhatsApp (circle with "√" shows for each photo)
    3. Tap on square box with arrow at bottom of screen (Share) - NOT "Add To"
    4. Tap on "Save image(s)"
    5. Check that selected photos now appear on "Camera Roll"
    6. From WhatsApp, send photos as you would have normally
