Photo sharpness in Acrobat

Saving Photoshop files as PDFs  and later combining them into a single PDF  using the Acrobat Combine Files Into a Single PDF causes a loss of image sharpness.
Contrary, opening the Photoshop PDF file in Acrobat and using the Add Pages menu option produces no loss of sharpness.
Why does the Combine Files Into a Single PDF option degrades the photo quality and what is this option meant for?

Did you check the conversion settings when you used the combine function. In the version of Acrobat on this machine (AA8), there are three resolution options.

  • How do I move a saved .pdf photo in adobe/acrobat to my photo gallery?

I currently downloaded Adobe Reader to so that I could view and download .pdf documents and photos. I also set up the acrobat program so that I could save the .pdf photos onto it. There is currently a picture I have that is a .pdf file that is saved in acrobat. However, I would like to know if there is a way I can save that to my photo gallery or photo stream so that I can then make it my wallpaper. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but any help would be appreciated!

  • Scaling Photos in Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0

Using Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 - Adobe Designer
    When creating a form:
Is it possible to scale a photo within a designated box (Position Content) so that it fills the box without distorting/stretching the photo?
If so, can you then move the photo within the designated box (Position Content)to position it?

You can name them all Check Box 1 but you must assign a different Value to each on. Like a "Yes", "No" value in the Options Export Value. This will force the user to check only 1 of the boxes.

  • Photos sharp in viewer, blurry in canvas

I have a project that intersperses photos with live action. The photos are variously digital shots (jpeg) and scanned shots (tif).
I select a photo in the browser, double click to open in the viewer, set the duration and insert in to the sequence. The photo is now visible in both the viewer & canvas windows - in the viewer it is sharp, in the canvas slightly blurry.
The output (on DVD viewed on a TV) is 'acceptable' (more blurry than I'd like) and I've lived with it for a while, but I was wondering why the apparant quality loss?
I've tried converting both types to .psd with the same results. Any help appriciated.
    Thanks.

I have experienced this problem and have used the following:
If the still image is adjusted in the Timeline, by using the motion tab in the viewer, which changes the pixels within the image (eg., changing the scale, aspect ratio or rotation) this sometimes causes significant blurring. To avoid that, I make my images at least 144 pixels per sq. inch (2 x 72 which is the resolution of DVD video). This (I think) allows the extra pixels to be used in the changing rather than new interpolated pixels being created by FCE. However, if the image is simply moved (left/right/up or down) or is cropped, these do not seem to affect the image quality.
If the image is unacceptably blurry, I find using the Unsharp filter (Video Filters > Unsharp Mask) restores the sharpness.

  • Preview - low resolution on photos

If I create a pdf document containing photos and open the same document in both Preview and Adobe Acrobat, the Acrobat always has sharper images. It seems like Preview works at a lower resolution. I have spent much time testing all different types of pdf files, saved at different resolutions. No matter what I do, the photos when viewed in Preview are less sharp than Acrobat.
Has anyone else experienced this and is there a way to change Preview?

    Hi,
Is there a fix for this?
The UI is tiny on my Dell XPS 15 (retina display).
Is there no option such as in photoshop for 'experimental features' to enlarge the UI by 200%?
Currently it's unusable on a retina display.
    Thanks.

  • Printing difference from acrobat pro or acrobat reader

    Hi,
I noticed when i maken pdf files from inDesign ansd print from my computer the fonts are printed fine and sharp (from acrobat pro) but when other people are printing the documents from the reader version the fonts aan kinda blurred and grainy..
I first thought fonts were nog embedded right, but that's not the issue.. The pdf says it's embedded just fine, and eve with the font installed locally it doesn;t make a difference..
For the rest the computers are installed the same and printer settings are equal. The only difference is i have installed the CS5 package on my machine and the rest doesn't.
Is there a difference when printing from the acrobat reader?

  • Blurry photos when burning via magic idvd

Ok, so I construct a perfectly focused slideshow in idvd, then burn to a dvd and presto, all photos blurry whether viewed on my iMac that produced it or thru a dvd player on TV.
the photos are in jpeg format.
I enhance each photo ( sharpness etc) and when played back in preview mode on my mac are fine.
What am I doing wrong? I thought Magic iDVD was supposed to remove the hassles, not create them!

I've not used the Magic iDVD option so don't know what it does with the photos you provide it but have create many, many iDVD slideshow projects with photos from iPhoto and have had extremely good results.
I create an iDVD project, add a slideshow, move the photos I want (cropped to 4:3 size ratio beforehand) to the slideshow, add music and save the project as a disk image (this separates encoding problems from burning problems). I mount and play the disk image with DVD Player and once I'm satisfied all is well I burn the disk image to disk using Disk Utility or Toast as the slowest burn speed possible using top quality media, Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R, which are the most recommended in these forums.
Since I'm not familiar with Magic iDVD tell me a couple of things: are you creating the slideshow in iPhoto or just making the still photos available to iDVD by placing them in an album for export to iDVD?
If you're creating the slideshow in iPhoto and use the Ken Burns effect the image size should be a minimum of 1440 x 1080 pixels in size to help keep the image sharp during the zooming of the KB effect. The output resolution of DVDs is 720 x 540 - a DVD standard and not iDVD issue. The slideshow is converted to a Quicktime movie format for use in iDVD. Then iDVD encodes the QT file again in its process. That's a lot of compression from the original source files.
For what it's worth here are some tips for preparing photos for use in iDVD that might help:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6675.html
    http://www.scantips.com/basics1f.html
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Don't know where else to turn

    Please help if you can,
I'm having printing problems and can't resolve. Have an old Epson Stylus Photo 1280 and have cartridges from an OEM dealer. Never seemed to have problems before until recently. The printing is off <> muddy <> photo prints with too much magenta. BTW, have current drivers.
Here's what's interesting   .  .  .   Have a friend with an HP photosmart 07560. Her computer is old and the monitor & printer are not calibrated together, never were. Created a PDF of the file and printed it "perfect" on her printer. She also has bought cartridges from the same company I use and has had no problems with color shifts etc..
I have not calibrated my monitor & printer, never had to. Photos printed fine before. Could it be that maybe, just maybe this batch of cartridges is bad? I have other cartridges but haven't tried to use them. Don't want to open the packages and try & reseal them if the problem still exists.
Also have an HP color laserjet 2600n but can't use it right now: does have a color shift because of a hardware problem [registration is off]. Inks are fine but a similar problem occured with it as well. Just wanted to print the photo to see if the color was "off." Yup, too much magenta on a white walled house [outside]. Like I said, my friend's HP 07560 printed the photo perfecto!
Do you need any additional info to help solve this problem?
Have CS3 and tried printing the photo from Photoshop & Acrobat. Didn't manipulate image in any way. Been a graphic artist since the early '90's and can't fingure out what is going on!
Very frustrated and would appreciate ANY help I can get. I know this isn't directly a Photoshop problem but someone out there in the forum probably has had a similar problem and can help me. Could it be the cartridges and if so, why would both my printers be off [toner & cartridges] at the same time and not my friend's who is computer illiterate and doesn't even know what calibration means!
    Oh Please!!!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Ellen

Just a quicky here: The company I bought the cartridges [and toners for another printer] from has really come through. Been doing business with them for several years and any problems I've had, they have responded more than graciously!!! BBB apporved, BTW! They're sending me 4 new cartidges and a UPS return label [I don't have to pay return postage]. I will then send back the defective ones.
They are Color Toner Expert [www.colortonerexpert.com] if you want to do business with them. Great bunch of folks and have gone above the call of duty. They sell remanufactured toners / cartridges.
I don't work for them <> but just want to pass along a great value. Internet companies can be shady and when ya find one ya can trust, well, it's worth passing along!

  • Metadata and Print output

I created a PDF for prepress document from InDesign which had linked Photoshop photos.
In Acrobat I used the "Examine Document..." command and removed the metadata. I only wanted to remove the metadata for the photos, but Acrobat does not allow you to select only the photos, so the metadata from the document itself was removed too.
Can anyone let me know if this will affect the output?

Thanks Stix. I too thought that removing metadata would not have any effect on an ordinary print job.
The job I had in mind was to digital. The problem was with the printer calibration not the fact that I had removed the metadata. Seems there are more colour calibration problems with digital than with CMYK.

  • Has Adobe read Catch-22?

The other day I attempted to use my bought-and-paid-for Adobe Acrobat. Imagine my surprise when I found that, with no warning, it had taken itself online -- acrobat.com or somesuch. Oh, well, all I had to do was install an update. Of course, the update didn't work. Research on forums and message boards indicated that I needed to uninstall Adobe AIR (whatever that is!). Duly uninstalled. However, now when I try to install the update that will apparently allow me to use Acrobat, it tells me I need AIR!!! So now I have another piece of expensive Adobe junk to join my early (but very satisfactory) version of Photoshop. And then today I get the email blast encouraging me to buy Adobe products to make my 2014 easier. Really?
I'm going with freeware for PDFs and anyone else's photo editing software.

Acrobat should not have been jumping to Acrobat.com. If you have Acrobat, there are questions of what OS and what version of Acrobat, neither of which you indicated? Multiple problems can crop up. As for Air, I have no clue -- never could figure it out and the description on Adobe.com does not help.
I would suggest running http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, deleting any leftover Acrobat folder items, reboot, and reinstall. After you complete the installation, use Help>Updates to update the installation.
It is not clear that you are asking for any help, but rather venting instead. We don't work for Adobe and can in some aspect understand frustration -- often why many of us ended up here. Most of the time things can be repaired and work fine. However, for us to help we need more information, including OS and Acrobat version (from Help menu).

  • PDF picture frames?

I downloaded this free benefit that is supposed to allow me to put frames around my pictures. To use it, the website says "Please click the button below and select “save” when prompted to download the files to your computer.* To add your photos, simply open Acrobat XI and follow the instructions."But of course, when I open Acrobat XI I get no instructions. Any idea how to get this implemented?

I think what you downloaded are PDFs. You are meant to open them in Acrobat, and when you do, you'll see instructions.

  • Paste in place & Custom arrow shape?

I am utterly confused as to why there are no posts about this.
I have been a Acrobat 6 "stalwart" for several CRITIAL (to us) reasons, which to my amazement, don't seem to get much attention, so I am wondering if I am just crazy in thinking that these issues are really important.
Issue 1> Paste in Place - this functionality has been lost since Version 6, yet no one has really made a big issue of it. This seems like a HUGE time waster to me. We copy and paste the same information on HUNDREDS of pages. Loosing this feature would loose hours a week.
Issue 2> Point-y Arrows. I can't find anyone who has even raised this issue, but if you look at the arrows in Version 6, they are nicly proportioned, with pointy ends. The arrows in 7,8&9 are like lines with Triangles on the end - flattened and they basically look like a 3 year old drew them.
The arrows in the attached photo show:
    Left = Acrobat 9 arrow @ 2 pt.
    Middle = Acrobat 9 arrow @ 4 pt
    Right = Acrobat 6 arrow @ 4 pt (Elegant!)
Do I have a bad Arrow module? or can I take the arrow from version 6 and put it in version 9?
And PLEASE PLEASE bring back Paste in place, without it, we're going back to 6!
    SEPP!

I have asked Adobe more questions that I can shake a stick at, this included. Even mentioning that though we own 9, we continue to use 6 for more reasons than I can post here. In fact any decent research will reveal that for some reason adobe stopped listening to us, its customers, after version 6, so while I have suggested and asked for help in understanding WHY they downgrade their product, I have never even received a response that they reviewed or consider my points..... (I should also mention that we have the same problems with Microsoft, and as such continue to use Excel 2002 with no foreseeable plans to upgrade, ever - everything I need to do, takes longer, more mouse clicks and doesn't make me produce anything better.....)
I have re-submitted a request - although I consider It a bug - and I also consider & evaluate alternate products at every chance. Oh, and I still advise my colleagues to use version 6.
    Thanks for the pointer.
    SEPP!

  • IDVD 08 slide show quality problems

I have tried several different ways to get a reasonably good quality slideshow through iDVD. In every case I end up with out of focus slides. Have tried the following:
1)Start in iDVD and import photos from iPhoto. Everything appears normal in this process. When I preview the slideshow before burning the photos are clear and sharp. But when I burn it the slides on the burned DVD are no longer sharp. They resemble that brief out-of-focus that you see when you first open a photo in iPhoto, which quickly sharpens on its own.
2)Did as in #1 above, but used "Save As Disc Image" and then played it with the internal iMAC DVD Player. Slides had again lost their sharpness.
3)Started with a slideshow in iPhoto and used "Send to iDVD." When I opened this slideshow in iDVD the photo sharpness was again lost.
    Please help.

    did you ever resolve this?

  • How to sharpen images ?

I have 40 3x5" pictures of a trip to Tokyo in 1978.  I have scanned them into iPhoto and edited them for color, etc. & for sharpness.  They are all about 100kb in size after edit.  I used Image Tool to increase to size to about 200KB.  I want to construct a video slideshow of them using Aperture 3.5.
Is there a way in Aperture or elsewhere that these jpg pics can be sharped for appearance on display of the slideshow on iTunes and HDTV or Apple TV?

Oh, oh! EXPOSED!  I am budding amateur novice not yet out of kindergarten!
    For example, original jpg = 315x236 @ 75 pixels/inch
          Image Tool scale  x 3 = 945x708 @ 75pixels/inch
(I think IT offers option to specify pixels; never used.)
So that means it will be hard to make the photos sharp, but I can try Edge sharpening and enhance definition in Aperture.  Right?
I do not know how to determine what pixelsize resolution my slideshows need!
(I've been making them by the seat of my pants/eyeballs!).
Can you help/teach me here?  I make the slide shows in Aperture and export them from Aperture to iTunes and with some option that Aperture offers for Apple TV, iPad, HD 1080p or 720p.  Then use Toast to burn DVD.
I used Image Capture to scan the prints into MBP and I only used whatever "default" setting the application chose.  (I think that app offers some pixel option; never used.)
"This way, you/I would have used the original resolution of the photo optimally."
    TIA for any consideration! pwwwayne
