Photo shop elements 7 vs light room which one to buy???

Well Ive watched alot of tutorials  and both seem to have some cool feateures.  I am a amature at photo editing.  I cant seem to make up my mind on which program to use.  I have been using photo shop elemts 3 for a few years but am not great with it.  I have taken couses on photoshop cs and found it is alot more program than what i have time to learn.  I want to be able to orginize adjust and share my photos.  I want to be able to take several photos and turn them into one.  Can the two programs work together?
I have about 8000 photos I am going to have to reimport, tag and orginize I just as well uprade or change programs before I take the time to do this.  Any input form anyone that has used both would be greatly appriciated.
Randy

PSE and LR can work together:  You would import your photos into LR and
catalog/keyword/non-destructively-adjust them, then you can do right-click
then Edit in Photoshop Elements to make further destructive adjustments to a
copy of the LR-adjusted photo.
PSE7 is less than $100.  LR2 is $300.  PS11 is $600.  I have all three and
use LR most of the time and tend to use PS to do any further adjustments
that I find necessary, which isn't that often, so most things are taken care
of entirely in LR.
You can download a trial of both PSE7 and LR2 and see how well you like
either or both.  You cannot share the keywords between the two, so you will
want to use LR to catalog and organize things if you have it, or perhaps PSE
to organize things if you don't have LR, although I've never done this so
can't really compare the two.
As far as wanting to take multiple photos and create one from them, do you
mean something like a collage or scrapbook pages, are do you mean taking an
object like a person from one photo and putting it into a background of
another, a composite photo that still looks like one photo?  Being a
consumer-level program, PSE may be able to make simple collage-type things,
but you need the full professional-level Photoshop to do the layering and
masking involved in creating a composite photograph from parts of others
that you have extracted.

  • Problem downloading Photoshop Elements with IE10 [was: photo shop elements]

I am trying to install Photo Shop Elements on my computer which has Windows 7 and IE9 and it keeps telling me I need IE4 or higher to install it and quits the installation. Can anyone help me with this?

It's a well known issue with the Adobe website and IE10.
The website script has a bug which seems to think IE10 is IE1 (which is hopelessly out of date). So the download quits. Has been repeatedly reported to Adobe but not fixed - or even acknowledged by Adobe - yet.
    Workarounds:
Use Compatibility View in IE10 (change to IE9) to fool Adobe's website to think you're using IE9
    Use a different browser.

    Good Day All Forum People!
My hard drive crashed! I cannot install my Photo Shop Elements into my new hard drive. The License key is designed for one download to one computer. How do I download not only my Elements 7, but as well all my tutorials/training videos. These are original videos not copies(I Paid For) in 2009 for college.
YOUR HELP in this matter is greatly appreciated...Penny
    Have a mos beautiful Day!

Photoshop Elements 7 can be downloaded thru the page linked below:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-7-8-9-downloads.html
If that does not work for you then you can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

As far as your tutorials and training videos go, you will likely have to research that yourself since no one here is likely to know what those were nor where they can be acquired.

  • Will Elements or Light Room work for an old copy of CS?

I am running windows 8 and tried to install an old copy of photoshop cs. I got an error message that I needed to already have installed a copy of photoshop 5.0 or later. I no longer have my elements software so I cant re install it. Can I just get a new elements or light room and then be able to install cs?

I'm trying to determine which would be the best way for me to proceed. I'm looking for a way to manage my photos (over 22,000) with keywords and file names.
Both Elements and PSE work best if you organize and manage your collection by keywords, and not by file names. Although you can certainly go down that path if you really want to, in which case if you must use file names, Lightroom offers slightly better tools, and fewer bugs.
I am an Elements 7 user but I'm having some problems using the keywords in CS5.
Not enough information for me to understand what problems you are having, so I can't advise on this issue.
Also if I delete pictures in CS5,  I have to make a lot of adjustments in Elements .
I fail to see an issue here. In fact, I don't really understand completely, what do you mean "delete pictures in CS5"? CS5 is an editor, not a file manager.
I have read the information regarding Lightroom and wonder if this is the way to go for me. It appears to be more compatible with Photoshop.
Neither Lightroom nor Elements has an advantage in its compatibility with Photoshop. Both allow you to use CS5 as an extra editor.
Both PSE and Lightroom let you do what you have described, if used properly. If you could provide more details about your needs, maybe one program or the other will become the better choice.

Hi I have the old photo shop elements 10 on my computer and want to update and was wondering what the differences between photoshop, lightroom and photoshop elements are?
Also when I upgrade does it have to be with a monthly membership or can I just purchase the product out right like you use to be able?

You cannot "update" from what you have to any of the applications you mention. It will have to be a straight purchase or subscription at full price.
Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
Lightroom is all about volume, and very light editing.
The Photoshop Elements forum is at:

Remember, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums.  You are requesting help from volunteers users just like you who give their time free of charge. No one has any obligation to answer your questions.
I do not know where there is such a comparison table as you seek, but someone else might, or you can google.

  • Uninstall photo shop elements 6

I bought a new V500 epson scanner from Staples about a week ago.  When I tried to install photo shop elements 6 the install got down to 38 seconds left and froze up.  I turned the computer off and then on again.  I found that the photo shop was not completely installed and it won't allow me to uninstall either.  Iwould like to install and then reinstall.  How can I uninstall photo shop?  Thank you for you help.
    Don Grabill

You have corrupted the system registry
You need to manually delete the program folder, and then buy a registry repair program
    This one is good http://www.macecraft.com/
You also need software to make a full hard drive backup to an external USB drive
Hardware crashes or virus infections happen, so you should buy software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus making step-by-step backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

  • Please help me with photo shop elements 9 for

Is there a book for learning Photo Shop Elements 9 for getting your memory card downloaded and then making and editing movies?  Or is there a class in the Chicago, Hoffman Estates, Barrington, IL area?

You can get the Classroom in a Book from http://www.adobepress.com (a susidy of Pearson). This will take you through pretty much everything, from start to finish.
If you are looking to edit movies though, you will need Premiere Elements (the sister program to Photoshop Elements, which is used for editing images).

  • IPhoto, Adobe Photo Shop Elements, & Photo Files

Just noticed that Photo Shop Elements is on sale this week.  If I purchase/download it, will I lose my iPhoto library?  I have version '09, 8.1.2 (424).  I've never upgraded to a newer version of iPhoto for fear of losing my library, based on some of the comments from other forums.  I do have my computer backed up via a LaCie drive and have had to reload my library once before. (It's very scary when you think you've lose 30K photos!)

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • When resizing a picture in photo shop elements ?

When resizing a picture in photo shop elements 7,
can somebody explain the difference between bi-cubic and bi-cubic smoother?

    Hello,
The way I understand it is this:
When you resize an image for sending to someone or viewing on the web or a monitor the size should be 640x480 pixels. You are actually making your image smaller and Adobe recommends using 'bicubic sharper'.
When you resize an image for printing you want to check your ppi or pixels per inch. Ideally it should be 300ppi with 200ppi being the lowest density for an acceptable print. A point to remember is that Canon cameras usually come in at 180ppi so check your camera and set it for the highest quality in the camera menu. Adobe recommends choosing 'bicubic smoother'.
The choice is actually yours to make in either case. If you don't like what you see choose one of the other resampling choices to get what you want.
