Photo shows white jaggy edges

I have a document in publisher 07 with a photo of a product in it made from Photoshop CS3 saved as a PNG24. No matter how close I zoom in Publisher everything looks fine.
When I create a pdf in acrobat using standard or high quality setting there shows white jagged edges aroung the photo. I have tried saving in a multitude of ways but cannot get those stupid jaggy edges to go away.
Is it Photoshop, Acrobat, Publisher??? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

No solution, but a hint:
I tried with Photoshop CS3 & MS-Publisher 2003 & Acrobat 8: the transparency of the PNG-24 was perfect - no white jaggies.

  • Enlarged photos show white borders on left and right margins

Should these white margins be present when viewed in enlarged format? I can't get rid of these left and right margins when printing 4x6 borderless format so I assume it needs to be corrected in iphoto first.

    Did you crop your photos?
Most digital cameras use a 3:4 aspect ratio. When you print onto 4X6 paper, you will have bands on the sides of the photos. It's the same thing as watching a "letterboxed" movie on television with the bands at the top and the bottom.

I suspect it is a "feature" of publisher. That would be much like the white space added around the sides of a PPT when printing to the Adobe PDF printer (unless you click on print to fit) so that printer margins are observed (an assumption of PPT). In photos, a jagged edge might be desired for old-style photos and that is what you are seeing. I am guessing, but I would look for the feature in Publisher.

  • Faces in Photos showed up blank after the upgrades

Faces in Photos showed up blank after the upgrades (no labeled faces at all) with the suggested faces mostly full of 100's of blank white circles. I used to have about 50 faces labeled with about 2500 photos. Now I have no labeled faces on top of page (completely blank) and only 9 face suggestions on the bottom. Photos also runs very slowly compared to iPhoto. I tried re-installing and re-upgrading and have gotten the same results. I'm using a Mac Pro (2009), OS 10.10.3, 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC, 7 GB storage. Any help will be appreciated and even if I have to delete the Face's database and start all over, where do I find that database or file to delete?

    1. Copy and paste is a very good way of moving chunks of text around, however, it's not really good for moving a Library containing many thousands of files. Drag and Drop is rather more reliable.
it comes up with a black circle and a "!" image.
    2. The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    TD

I made a photo slideshow in imovie and the photos have white dots showing up on the dvd (but not on the computer). Any thoughts?

    Boot in safe mode -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method -http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
if the preview is good order while in safe mode and then boot back to standard mode
And did you do step one first? Boot in safe mode?

  • Jaggy Edges: None Before Rendering - Plenty After Rendering

    hi guys.
i'm working on a stop motion project at the moment. in Sequence Settings, Compressor is set to photo-jpeg, frame size and pixel aspect ratio to HD 1440x1080, field dominance to none, video processing to "always render in RGB" and rendering quality is set to Best.
now, the problem i've been facing is that the unrendered footage looks perfect, crisp and sharp in terms of its quality. but then it acquires jaggy edges on all of the objects in the footage after rendering!
OR... sometimes the footage looks fine when paused, but has jaggy edges in motion, when i press Play.
i even tried to export the footage without rendering it, but the exported material had the same jaggy edges issue.
could anyone help me with advice, please?
the imported photos of this stop motion project are top-quality. so the resulting final product with these jaggy edges is much more than undesirable!
    thanks in advance.

Ah, but you might have made some changes in AE Preferences, perhaps.
Mind you, I only did a fast once-over in this thread, I may have missed something, so I have to ask: do you have multiprocessing turned on?
If so, turn it off and leave it off until you get more memory: you don't have nearly enough memory to use it.  Considering AE 10 can use all the memory your machine can hold, 4GB ain't nothin' anymore.  16GB is pretty darned good, and 32GB is even better.

Because you haven't read any book on iPhoto, or consulted iPhoto's Help. If you had, you'd have found this:
Importing: Copy items to the iPhoto Library
This preference is turned on by default. When you import photos from a hard disk, iPhoto copies (duplicates) the photos to the iPhoto library and uses the copies. The original photos remain untouched in their current locations.
If you have an extensive collection of photos on your computer and you want to keep your current file organization, you can have iPhoto point to your original photo files instead of importing them into your iPhoto library. To have iPhoto access your photos from their current locations on your hard disk (rather than making copies of them), deselect this checkbox. Note that if you edit one of these images in iPhoto, the edited version is saved in the iPhoto library and the original file remains untouched.
If you turn off this preference, be sure not to move the photos from the location from which they were imported. If you move the files, your iPhoto library won’t work correctly.
    they must be filed/stored/saved somewhere.
    Sure. They're stored in /dev/null.
    It is incomprehensible
Do you want the facts, or do you want to argue?
What possible purpose could this have, I'd really like to know...
Ask someone who has 50GB worth of photos on his hard disk and wants to organise them with iPhoto if he's interested in using up an additional 50GB for the privilege.

Eric, thanks for the info about the pictures, it worked.   The mail icon is not the one that came with the mac(it looks like a stamp with an eagle) this appears at a notepad with a ruler, paintbrush and pencil.  I can not open it, I did not download it and now I can not turn off the computer with shutdown I have to manually turn if off by pressing the power button.   This can not be normal.  Any suggestions.  thanks,  Ellen

  • Photos show in a different order/sequence when viewed on my Centro than on my desktop???

Hello, I know this may sound trivial but it is driving me nuts!  My photos show up in a different sequence when I view them on my handheld (Centro smartphone) than they do on my Palm Desktop Media platform.  I cannot figure out why they do not match up.  I have HotSync-ed a million times.  I sorted all of my photos via the desktop media software so that they are in chronological order.  Then I HotSync and view the albums on my phone (Centro) and none of them are in the order they are supposed to be in.  (If this helps at all... All of the photos are stored on my microSDHD card, not directly on my phone's memory - too many for that.) Any ideas why the HotSync is not correlating them to the order they are in on my desktop?  Am I going to have to manually sort them on my phone also, even though I already did this on the desktop software??  Please tell me there is an easier way - I have LOTS of pictures.  LOL! Thank you!!  ~ Kimmy

12:13am ***  OH NO!!  I am totally going to cry right now. I was trying to get the stupid thing to sync correctly.  So, I deleted the picture albums off my phone.  I left them on my desktop, since they were organized as they should be.  I did a hotsync and it erased the photos from the desktop and didn't put them on my phone. So, basically I lost a million pictures.  I double checked my settings and everything is set to "syncronize" - SO WOULDN'T THAT MEAN IT WOULD SYNCRONIZE BOTH????  Not let the phone override the desktop??  I am beyond upset.  If anyone can lend some help I cannot tell you how grateful I would be.  :*(

Hi..  Syncronize means that hotsync looks at both palm desktop and the device and looks for any changes and moves those changes to the opposite side to make them identical.  Thus it saw you deleted all pics on the device and sees it as you no longer need any of the pictures which were deleted thus it makes the palm desktop match the device by deleting them.  If you had set the media conduits to desktop over writes handheld it would have done what you wanted.  Hope you can find them..

I can see my thumbnails for my events in iphoto, but when I click to open the folder, no photos show up. However, when I hover over the thumbnail, it shows the flicker of images
that should be inside the folder, as well as # of images in each folder. It also occasionally says the following when I try to even open iphoto:  "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." So, I am scared to hit "upgrade" for fear I will never recover any of the images as the wording in this quote seems odd. The photos are not in the trash. Did I lose them all? Do you know if/how I can retrieve them?

    iPhoto 08?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Photos show up as thumbnail but when I click on them they will not display

Photos show up as thumnails but when I click on them they will not display. I get a exclamation mark in a dotted line box

    Hylan:
That occurs when the library has lost the link to the original file. This is a result of a damaged library database file, Library6.iPhoto. You can try rebuilding the library from within iPhoto to see if you can recover the photos by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. However, it's iffy.
You can rebuild the library with iPhoto Library Manager as it create a new library, leaving the original one intact, by reading the AlbumData.xml file and copying what it needs. You will be able to recover the photos, albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, slideshows, and calendars will not be recovered. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
It that doesn't work you'll have to start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from the old library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Contact Photos Show Up with 10.4.3 Update

I just updated to 10.4.3, and the contact photos show up. Apparently, the software is being updated, and Apple is listening. I'm sure there will be more updates for added functionality.

Congratulations to all you "MAc" users, however, from what I gather, this feature is not supported for Windows users and would have to be addressed in a future release of iTunes for Windows.
Deduction: It's an APPLE iPod, so I guess it has more support for APPLE Mac users than MICROSOFT Windows users.

On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.
