Photo size problem in book

I am scanning some documents for a scrapbook project in iPhoto. When I try to put that jpg into my book, the photo is way too big. I can only see about 1/3 of the picture in the space provided by the book. I have tried to change the resolution of the scan, but after I crop out all the white space, the photo is giant. What am I doing wrong?

skygirl65:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The photo frames in the book are designed for a image that's in the 4:3 size ratio. If you photos are not in that ratio, crop them in iPhoto and they should fill the frame completely. If you don't want to crop you can Control-click on the image in the book and select Fit Photo to Frame Size in the contextual menu. There will be some white space in the frame with that method.
If you crop, only crop the minimum amount to get the 4:3 ratio.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Lightroom 5.0 on Windows 7 - Photo Caption problem in Book Module

Using Lightroom 5.0 on Windows 7, I have produced a 76 page book in the Book Module with multiple photos on most pages, but two photos were not showing their captions, and did not print same in a proof PDF print run. I had the photo captions in the Meta Data, but have subsequently entered the pertinent photo caption via Custom Text from the left control panel, and also directly into the photo caption print box without success. I have changed the photo size, without a successful outcome, but when I did an auto cell fill of the photo the caption appeared within the photo, but disappeared when sizing was reduced back. I have exhausted all help avenues at this stage.

Thanks for your input and efforts to assist. I have resisted removing and replacing, as the 1966 passport photo has a lengthy (approx 60) adjustments showing in the history, as a result of its age. Hence I think that I will just have tolerate these somewhat minor, I suppose, aberrations and just send it off to Blurb as is, as restoring so many old photos to a more presentable print status has taken me 3 months as it is.
I don't understand why this a problem. You are removing a page from the book and adding back again. You are not removing the photo from the catalog, therefore you would not loose you are adjustments. Books are just another way of rendering photos.

  • Export Photo Size Problems

    Hi,
I am having aproblem when I export images. I have changed Aperture> Presets> Image Exports to Jpeg, Image Quality=12, size= original size and DPI=72.  When I export version, which in Aperture shows as image size 1936 x 1288 (2.5mp), it works correctly but if I drag the image from Aperture to my desktop it comes out 968 x 644. Is it possible to change this?
    Thank you for any help.

but if I drag the image from Aperture to my desktop it comes out 968 x 644. Is it possible to change this?
When you drag from the Aperture window, you only export your standard previews of your versions - the "Export" presets will not take. To export using your presets, use the command "File > Export > Version" and do not drag from the window. Or change the size of your  previews in the Aperture Preferences panel. Then you can export by dragging with a better quality, Also the screensaver and sharing to the Media Browser will give a better quality.

I used migration to send photos form my Mac Book to my I Mac now i get an error message "iPhoto can not be opened because of a problem"  Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Max OSX.  You may need to install any available updates or reinstall IPhoto.
I tried installing Iphoto it said it was downloaded successfully. I still get the error messafe, and can not open any photos of program,  any suggestions?

What version of iPhoto do you have on the Macbook and on the iMac? What systems are you running on the Macbook and on the iMac?
Does the message only refer to "a problem" or does it specify what it is?

  • I have a problem with iPhoto on my iMac.  Under the view site, I am unable to get to the photo size function.  It is grayed out

Under the view designation in iPhoto, the photo pane and photo size options are grayed out.  How can I get them turned back on so I can modify the size of small old photo I have scanned in.

There is no way to increase the size of a photo image once it's been scanned/taken.  If you want larger images from a scanned image scan it at a higher resolution, dpi.
Additionally, with the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you mean by "view designation"?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

Have you selected the spread layout?

  • Photo size and uploading to Apple

I'm in the process of making a quite large iPhoto book for my SIL for her b'day. The photos are a compiltion from many of mine, and others sent to me by family members. They are all different sizes, resolution, color and B/W.
After getting them organized, doing a bit of fixing on PS, I now am ready to get them into iPhoto.
Is it wise to take them all into Lightroom where I can do an easy batch change of the resolution? I have read where they should be around 300. It is easy to change them and the test prints I did at home looked ok, even on the small ones that aren't too big to start with. On the export menu of Lightroom, I have the option of stating whether I want them to be exported at JPG, Tiff etc., and I can change the resolution and photo size too.
I probably would export them as JPG, 300 res. and not change their size. Is this ok for the iPhoto books?
Also, if they are of a higher resolution, I assume it will take quite a while to upload them to Apple even with high speed fiberoptic cable internet service.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks, Allie

    Allie:
DO NO USE Lightroom as it messes up the metadata and makes the files not useable in iPhoto. You do not have to preprocess the files to set the dpi to 300 specifically. The only important feature of the file is the pixel dimensions. If the pixel dimensions are large enough as you state you can leave them as is. iPhoto will fit them into the frame you choose and the dpi will be determined that way. No matter what size the files are the book is converted into a pdf file for uploading and printing. My last book of nearly 100 pages came in at approx. 25MB.

  • How can I change to size of a book and keep all the layouts I have created?

How can I change the size of a book and use the layout that I have already chosen (I accidently laid the book out for a larger size book than what I acctually wanted)?

Just in case of problems duplicate the book (select it and edit ==> duplicate or Command=D) and then click on themes and select the same theme in theprper size - verify that everything worked (sometime different sized text blocks cause minor problems that require attention) and preview it -

  • Photo size is not displayed accurately

After cropping a photo to 4x6 it displays as 3.5 x 7  This makes the photo distorted.  How do I fix the display to be accurate? People look shorter and fatter?  Help!

Photo comes from Nikon SLR camera disk and I was cropping photos size to 4x6.   (Photoshop Elements 10)  I had been using Photoshop Elements 7 prior to this and never had this problem.  I pulled up some photos that I cropped in Photoshop Elements 7 last year and the measurement  are correct when I pulled them up in Photoshop 10. I just can not figure out why the photos using the 4x6 mode in Elements 10 are coming out as 3.5 x7  Any ideas? Merribeth

  • Photo Quality on Picture Book

I am trying to create a picture book in iPhoto using photo's from my son's football team. Some are digital images, but most are scanned pictures. Many of the scanned pictures have warning indicators in the picture book maker that says the printed picture may not be of quality. I would hate to send it off as is and have a poor picture book. I no longer have the pictures to re-scan. Does anyone have any experience with picture books through iPhoto who has dealt with this before?

there is no answer for this? It totally depends on the pixel density of your photos and the size of the frame - the low res indicator comes on at below 180 dpi - a 179 dpi photo will probably still be acceptable - a 18 dpi one will not - it could be anything below 180 dpi
This article is for prints rather than books but it will give you a guide as to minimum photos size - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1135 - or simply multiply the frame size in inches by 180 and that will give you the minimum pixel size for your photo

  • Cover photo in an Iphoto book.

How do I change the cover photo in an Iphoto book.  It seems to select one randomly.

You have a damaged book or library.  Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos, create a test book and see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then yhour library is damaged so try the following:
1 - create a new book and see if you can change the cover and back photos. If you can then recreate the book from scratch. If you can't you'll need to continue with #2:
2 -  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Contact Photo Size???

    So I have a new iPhone (8gb).
Using my Mac Pro to upload everything, contacts, iCal, etc.
So I made a new iPhone group in the address book.
Copied a photo from preview and pasted it in the contact photo box.
    Syncs fine.
On the iPhone the little pic is there under each contact.
But when that person calls, it is full screen, or even larger where I can only see the person's eye or nose. And a few times the screen has come distorted where I am unable to read anything. I read that when I make a contact on the mac, the photo is supposed to display only in the corner when they call. But this is not happening for me?
    Anyway to fix this?
Is there a max pic size for address book contacts?
    Thanks For You Help

The easiest way I've found to add photos to contacts was within the iPhone itself.
First, you'll have to load the photos you want onto your iPhone (make an album in iPhoto of the photos, regular size/unaltered).
Then, on the iPhone, go into your photos. Find a photo you'd like to add to a contact, then click on the little photo frame w/a large swooping arrow in the lower right corner of the photo.
You'll be prompted to use the photo as wallpaper, email it, or, the one you want, "Assign To Contact"
Select that option - you'll be presented w/your contacts list - choose the person you'd like to add a photo to. Then, and this is the key part, you can resize and crop/move the photo (basically, this is a preview of what the contact photo will look like when you get a call from that contact).
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I create a digital frame w/o decreasing the photo size?

I want to frame my photos & upload them to my website. When I use the frame tool, it decreases the photo size & has a large background, which I don't want.

Perhaps the better title for this would've been "How do I create a digital frame w/o INCREASING CANVAS SIZE?"
I have this same problem on Elements 10 and I can't find an answer. It's not because hawaiiski is using Themes. When you apply a frame to the photo through Content > Frames, it decreases the image size on screen and increases canvas size around the framed photo. It's the checkered transparent canvas. But I just want the photo and the frame as a flattened rectangular image, as a jpg, to post in an online album. Just a simple 10 point black frame. I've searched a lot but can't find an easy and/or accurate way to do this. Is there a way to auto-crop the canvas size to the edges of the framed photo? I do the Marquee > Image > Crop that snaps to the edges, but it always leaves a little canvas on one or more sides and I have to crop again. Some people say to apply frames by increasing canvas size, but the design options are limited to solid colors, and it takes longer to do.
Why does Elements have to add the canvas around a framed photo and why isn't there an easier way to crop to the edges? I do dozens of photos at a time and can't be cropping every photos twice just for frames.

  • Ipad 3th gen photo sync problem take too much space / wrong color

I am so happy after i got my 3th gen ipad i start sync 7k+ photo off my computer here problem i got and play phone tag with techsupport until now i still have this problems i wonder if anyone counter those and got tip to solve it.

i resize photo to so small it come out same problem
    2. photo color show not correct.
most of my photo sync to my ipad show in green or purple color.
I find out that any photo not in sRGB and do not have iccc color problem will have this problem i can be fix by convert it to sRGB and add iccc profile but it should not be this way ..
the problem just with photo app that come with ipad, i test with adobe photo express it does the same problem color go all jack up.
as now big big problem is can't seem to get photo sync correctly without 1 problem or other .. with 32Gb hdd i can't even get all photo that show 15gb in pc
    system
win 7 home 64bit with latest itune 64bit
    ipad 3th gen 32gb with at&t 4glte

I'm running iOS 5.1 on my iPhone4 and my new iPad3. But I never saw this color effect on my iPhone3G or iPod2G as well. I did sync some slideshows as well, but that is done on a Mac, not a Windows PC.
What are the settings on your camera when you shoot the photos? Is the sRGB profile embedded by the camera? Any RAW formated pictures involved?
