Photo sizes on iPhone

If I want to prepare photos NOT taken on my iPhone for transfer to the iPhone to create albums/slide shows for friends: 1) what size should the photos be--(dpi resoulution and dpi size), and 2)  is there a good iPhone slide show app?  (Like the one in iPhoto).

These are the iPhone screen resolutions:
iPhone: 320x480px
iPhone 4(S): 620x960px
iPhone 5: 640x1136px
If you resize a photo to the format of your iPhone, they will look fine fullscreen.
For slideshows, you can use this app: https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/photo-slideshow-director-hd/id457847244?mt=8

  • I cannot figure out how to change the photo size on my iPhone 5s.  I was given the choice of small, medium or large the first time I took a picture.  Now I have no idea how to change it to medium.  Can anyone help?

I cannot figure out how to change the photo size on my iPhone 5s.  The first time I took a pic it asked if I wanted smalll,  medium or large and listed the pixels.  I chose small but am now finding that is too small.  Can anyone help me set it to medium now?  I can't find any setting for that.  I'm a newby to iPhones and have no idea what I'm doing.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

By "sending" do you mean sending email?
If so, what app are you using to take the photos on your iPhone 5? Or are the photos from a different source (saved to your Camera Roll from somewhere else, like a web page or Messages)?
My guess is that Mail gives you the option to send different file sizes when it detects you are trying to Mail a really large photo file. The size of photos on the iPhone 5 is really big and some email providers may stop your mail from being delivered if attachments are too large. Thus, Mail tries to help you by offering to resize the photo.
I suspect that if you are sending smaller files, Mail does not bother giving you options to save a smaller version. In fact, I have seen this behavior. So, if the photo is already "small enough", it gets sent as-is.
To my  knowledge, there is no global iOS setting for this. Some apps may have different rules, of course.

  • Photo file sizes and iPhone

My digital camera files has extremely large file sizes - around 10mb. When I sync iphoto with the iphone I'm planning to get, will it resize the files and upload a smaller version to the iPhone? I hope so or my iphone will fill up pretty fast.

Photos transferred from your computer to the iPhone will be "optimized" for viewing on the iPhone but how much smaller in size these photos will be, I'm not sure.
My iPod with video includes a setting to transfer full resolution photos but the iPhone does not include the same option.

  • Reducing iPhone photo size

I think the photos from my iPhone are far too large and my iPhoto library is bloated. On a SSD MacBook Air the HDD soon fills up.
I use iPhoto Library Manager but is there a way to reduce the size of photos taken on my iPhone 5?
Or an Applescript which will reduce size when/after importing?

When you email a photo, just before the email is sent, you will be asked if you want to reduce the size...

  • I have the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) turned on. The photos from my iPhone do get uploaded to the iCloud. The photos are then downloaded to my wife's iPhone (we share the iCloud account). How do I keep the photos from downloading to my wife's iPhone

I do not want all the photos from my iPhone downloading to my wife's iPhone from iCloud? We share an iCloud account. How can I prevent the download to my wife's iPhone from iCloud. .The "Upload to My Photo Stream" is turned off on my iPhone. . I am running 8.1.3.
I have a related question. In order to same space on my iPhone is there a way to upload the photos to the iCloud and then delete them from my iPhone.

The way to keep the photos from downloading to your wife's phone would be for her to go to Settings > iCloud > Photos > and turn off iCloud Photo Library. If that isn't an option, the other option would be for her to have her own Apple ID ( and possibly explore the new family sharing options https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ )
Regarding the "related question" see the quotes below from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album.
If you want to reduce the space used by photos on your phone, rather than deleting them see the following:
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

  • How to retrieve photos from an iphone internal storage?

How do I get them from my internal storage onto a disk or even saved into my laptop? they are not appearing on my phone only when its plugged into the computer but no way of saving them! please help!

    Hi,
    Please help
I plugged in my Iphone 5s using cable to my HP window xp laptop and "CUT" all images from internal storage to my USB.

  • Whats the best way to get photos off my iphone to my pc (ios8)

    Hi
Even with the new icloud drive I still want to take my photos off my iphone so I can take my own backups
I have icloud on my pc, so can access them this way - and this does include any photo editing I have done to the photos which is great.  However I have noticed when I do it this way, the size of the photo I save is only 1mb so it appears there is some kind of compression or reduction in the resolution which  bothers me slightly.  Is this something I should worry about?
So I have then gone and plugged in my iphone and grabbed the photos like a flash drive, however this only gives me the original photo without any photo editing!  I do however get the full size photo around the 1.6mb mark!
I guess I could used drop box or something similar (I get full size of 1.6mb and photo edits this way) but its a slow upload process.
Am I missing something in ios8 - I had assumed by now they would have made it easier to move photos around but its still seems like a total pain.  Can anyone help??
    Thanks so much

If these photos are in your Camera roll then you can transfer them by attaching your iPhone to your MacBook and having it recognized as a camera.
If the photos/videos are in Camera roll or not you can directly transfer them via WiFi from your iPhone to PC/Mac with an App like Photo Transfer.
    See: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photo-transfer-app-easily/id365152940?mt=8
Or you can upload the photos/videos to the Dropbox service using the Dropbox App on your iPhone and download them to a PC/Mac using the Dropbox App on that device.

  • Synching Photo Albums from Iphone to Iphoto

My Macbook was stolen a few months back and I'm wondering if I there's a way to synch the photo albums in my Iphone to my new Macbook Pro.

Nope. It's a one way deal. iTunes reduces the file size of the photos for the iPhone display.
There may be third party utilities to pull the image files off the iphone, but the photo quality is going to be very low.
    Sorry.

  • Photo size reduction

When I e-mail a photo, my iPhone asks me if I want to reduce the size before sending. I assumed that IOS would be sensible, like Windows, and send a reduced copy.
No! It reduces the size of the photo on the iPhone and the original hi-res picture is lost. Thank you, Apple, for ruining irreplaceable images of my holiday.

OK, so why are the Photo Album pictures that I e-mailed back to base reduced to 640 x 400, and *only* those pictures?
What does this mean? And how does this prove the resolution of the original photos were changed in any way?
Have you imported the photos from the Camera Roll with your computer?
I must admit I was expecting and Apple product to be a bit special - actually, there's very little to recommend either system above the other.
I've used both platforms extensively, which is the reason why my personal money has never been spent on that upside down and backwards ****-poor copy of Apple's GUI, and swiss cheese for security OS. I'd go without a computer before I'd spend any money on that mediocre designed for the lowest common denominator OS.

  • Why can't I email photos from my iPhone 4S?

Why can't I email photos from my iPhone 4S? It goes through the motions, select photo, recipient, file size but nothing is received.

Are you sending an email using a return address of, say @xxx.com" but using an outgoing server from a @yyy.com service?  If so, this is known as relaying.  Many servers now reject such emails, as this method is often used by spammers.  Depending on your email provider, you may be able to get around that by going into the settings for that email account and finding a place where you can enter a valid @yyy.com address along with a password.  (You'll have to hunt around the settings to find this, IF the account allows for that.)
Example:  A non-icloud exchange account:  Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars - In the Accounts section, tap the account in question (e.x. yyy.com), tap the Account name, fill in the Username and password in the section that also includes "Domain    Optional"  where optional is in gray.
Example:  For icloud, Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars - In the Accounts section, tap the icloud account, Tap (in Advanced), "Mail" then indicate emails you want to use in "Allow Sending From".
Doing so lets you continue using a return address of @xxx.com, but the server also gets the valid address and password for its service and forwards the email as it should.

  • How much storage does the average photo on the iphone 5 take up?

I have a few questions about this:
    1. How much storage is it if you save it from a text message or from the internet?
    2. How much storage is it from taking a regular photo on the iphone 5?
    Thank you!

What do you mean "How much storage is it if you save it from a text message or from the internet?"  That makes no logical sense.  SMS is not sent via the Internet, they are sent via the cellular voice network.
The size of any SMS is miniscule and frankly irrelevant.  An MMS would have a larger size dependent upon what file is attached.

  • How do I transfer photos from my iPhone 4S directly to an external drive?

Hi.  I can't figure out how to transfer my photos from my iPhone 4S to an external drive without first putting them into iPhoto.  I have zero space on my computer and am now out of storage on my phone too.  I can't see my phone under Devices in Finder and I also don't seem to have the Application Image Capture.  These are all the suggestions that I've read elsewhere in other posts, but nothing has been helpful.
Please let me know if you have done this before or know what to do.
    Thanks

    Extracts copied from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
You can import pictures from the device using Image Capture:
Connect the iOS device to the computer.
If Image Capture does not open automatically, you can navigate to your Applications folder and open Image Capture from there.
Choose the location to which you'd like to import pictures.
    Click Options.
Click the Options tab if it isn't already selected.
Enable the option "Delete items from camera after downloading".
Note: Deleting photos after importing helps to reduce Camera Roll size, and it improves backup and restore times. You may choose Keep Photos if you wish to import the photos to additional computers.
    Click OK.
    Click Download All.

  • Fill screen with zoom for small photo sizes (as in slideshow)?

Front facing iPhone 4S camera sized photos are too small in iPhoto. Is it possible to set a default to fill screen with zoom for all photo sizes (as in slideshow)? Seems like the old iPhoto worked like this.

That's what I was afraid of!  I wish it would still scale photos to fill the window also if they're smaller  than the window size (not just 100%), like it used to in older versions of iPhoto. Especially irritating, since the problem photos are from an Apple product, the front facing camera of the iPhone4s.  I already added my complaint to "feedback".
    Thanks anyway.
