Photo slideshow for webpage

Please help -
When visitors open my homepage (I'm using Dreamweaver 8) I
want them to see an image that changes (like a slideshow). Is Flash
the best thing to use? I have tried using the photo slideshow
template from Flash, but find that it is still necessary for my
users to click the arrows in the "controller" in order to begin
viewing the images. Is there a way to have the slideshow begin
immediately and then continue looping?
Thank you much for your expertise - it is much
appreciated!

As Rikk previously mentioned, the file export specification of "resolution" whatever the number (even 72) has no bearing on someone's ability to make a print from the file at whatever resolution they choose (within the limits of the pixel dimensions you make available); it's the pixel dimensions that will limit printed size/quality. Perhaps you meant that you use a jpeg "quality" setting of 72, which is indeed fairly low. That might even be set even lower to enable reasonably good web display yet discourage printing.
As to use of watermarks, yes, I agree they can be distracting, but not necessarily. A watermark can be chosen that is a compromise--minimally distracting yet prominent enough to discourage some (maybe not many?) from making a print.
As to the supposed (Kodak) "golden standard 778x517" : I wonder if you are thinking of 768 x 512? In any case, it's certainly not in any way a unique dimension that offers a special advantage in display speed. Sure it should load "a bit" faster than 800x600 since it contains a smaller number of pixels.

  • Photo slideshows for iDVD - iPhoto or iMovie?

I posted before because I encountered errors when I created a DVD that incorporated photo slideshows and movies. The slideshows were created in iDVD and the movies in iMovie. The dvd was full, and on the one occasion that the burn was "successful", the photos for the menus were randomly re-arranged (and the audio for one movie was assigned to the wrong video). On other occasions, I encountered the dreaded multiplexing error (format error after 5 1/2 hours of encoding). I understand from some of your comments that my DVD is too packed (14 menus and submenus, 9 slideshows, 15 short movies) to encode properly. So I am starting all over and will try to simplify it this time. My question is: which application is best to make slideshows - iPhoto or iMovie? Is one application more stable than the other and less likely to encounter encoding issues? These photos and videos are from a 10 day family trip and I can't really eliminate anything but bells and whistles. Any advice is appreciated - I am grateful that there are so many experienced users willing to help novices like me.

My question is: which application is best to make slideshows - iPhoto or iMovie?
From what I read in the Apple Discussions and my own observations, it seems that both iMovie and IDVD, along with iPhoto, have their strengths and weaknesses. This is what I have found so far:
The default Ken Burns effect in iPhoto is much more pleasing than the one in iMovie. In iPhoto, the zoom and pan are varied; in iMovie, the effect is simply a zoom in. The iMovie Ken Burns effect can become very tedious when applied to a large number of photos. To vary the effect manually can also be a very time-consuming.
iMovie has the advantage providing a means to add text to the photos with a variety of special effects. I haven't found this option in iDVD. With iMovie it is possible to edit music. I have read a few posts that stated the iDVD will produce a better quality image when imported directly from iPhoto as opposed to one created by iMovie.

    I hope this helps.

  • Exporting photo slideshow for web

Hi I had a search but couldn't find the answer to my question.
I'm trying to use FCE4 to create slide shows of photos. I don't use video at all. I import the photos in TIFF format and after arranging them into a sequence and adding audio, effects, I then attempt to export them to the web.
Problem is the Quick time movie project that is exported isn't appropriate. It's either too large for the web (+60MB) or it is very low quality and not the same quality as I viewed in FCE.
I would like the size of the video be 1024x768, and I'm using Export using Quick Time conversion, and have experimented with the various setting for Quick Time Move including dial up internet, broadband high, or more detailed settings using TIFF compression. The manual isn't helping much...would appreciate your help!

It depends a lot on what level of broadband you expect the user to have, and whether the video has to play immediately. There are some natural sizes to use for the video, such as 1280x720, 960x540 or 640x360, and the frame rate ought to be 24, 25, or 30, depending on the source material.
Making it for medium to good broadband, and with wanting the video to play right away, you could do say 1280x720, 1 megabit per second, H264. It would look reasonably good. If you don't mind people having to download for a little while before the video can play, then take the data rate up to 3 mbps.
So, one way to look at that would be to use the AppleTV preset from QuickTime Player, then open that mp4 file and save as to mov (just to make your html task easier). It would look very good, but might take a bit of downloading time before it's ready to start playing.

  • Photo Slideshow Help

I don't much care for most of this new iMovie, but the Ken Burns effect controls are way better in '08.
For this reason alone (and that if offers a couple additional bells and whistles that iPhoto doesn't have) I am using it to put together a 350 photo slideshow for a friend's wedding.
The friend gave me all the chronologically ordered images on a CD which I imported into a new project and set about applying the Ken Burns effect to all of 350 of them.
THEN.. she changed her mind and wants to group the images thematically (i.e. Friends, Family, Travel, Camping, etc.)
What is the easiest way to move the photos/clips around?
It seems I can only move one at a time and there is no bin I can place the clips for organizing purposes.
Moving one at a time is going to be a major PITA... but so would starting over and redoing the KBE's.
Also... this isn't a question, but.. the audio management in '08 is super lame. No crossfading? Come on. Don't give me the "take it to GB and bring it back" workaround. I don't want workarounds. I want a piece of software that works.
On the upside, it is faster. No rendering delays. That's nice. Thought I'd end on a positive note.
Any help with the reordering of clips would be appreciated.

What is the easiest way to move the photos/clips around?
Unfortunately, as you've already discovered, there don't seem to be any "internal" shortcuts. Would likely remove all transitions, overlays, and titles and, starting at either end of the project, use a "bubble sort" algorithm to manually move each photo to its new location (and hope KBEs don't change). Then finish by rebuilding transitions, audio, and titles. Would be more likely to use this approach if and only if KBE are not changed while re-ordering the individual photo icons. On the other hand, if you do re-start the entire project, then you could "import" the photos as ordered groups (if you alredy have them grouped this way externally) and use the "auto add" feature to insert them into a new "project" and automatically apply the transitions (if all are the same) at the same time. (Also may be a good idea to start a new, separate project if your friend is one who is prone to constantly changing their mind.)
As to audio, how are you adding and adjusting it? Are you placing them in each photo segment or adding them as a background? Fading in/out seems to be automatic or non-existent depending settings, number of audio tracks, and where/how embedded. Do agree that the old "rubber band" approach did seem much more logical and offer better accuracy with regard to what you could do.

  • How to make a photo slideshow with next button

Is it possible to make a photo slideshow for a dvd that will use the next button to go forward to the next photo? Can I import a video from another dvd and include it in the same dvd on which I put the photo slideshow? They might fit: 220 mb of photos and the video dvd is 2.6 gb

    Hi arthurav42
Welcome to apple discussions. First thing to mention is that iDvd doesn't look at MB's or file sizes (excluding the dvd-rom section of the dvd). Rather, it looks at QT playback in hours and minutes. We call this total run time and it is not to exceed 2 hours / 120 minutes for a SL Dvd-R (and about twice that for DL).
As to your first question, Is it possible to make a photo slideshow for a dvd that will use the next button to go forward to the next photo? The direct answer is not within iDvd. You'd need apple's pro apps FCS/DVDSP in order to add a next button to individual photos contained within a manual slideshow.
However, one may be able to simulate this feature in iDvd with the use of a graphics app like Adobe PS in which one could add an arrow to any given jpeg / photo. It wouldn't highlight the button itself after it's selected on a remote / clicked but it would move directly to the next image once a person clicks on it (or anywhere else on the image for that matter).
As for the second question, Can I import a video from another dvd and include it in the same dvd on which I put the photo slideshow? ..... Again the answer is yes within DVDSP and not directly within iDvd (you'd need a third party app like DVDXDV from which one can convert to a QT file for use within any of the i-apps or pro apps for that matter like DVDSP). Once converted, simply add the movie to the slideshow feature in iDvd. And yes it's possible to add both photos and movies to the slideshow in iDvd. For example:

I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto.  It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!!  I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • My Apple TV is having problems with slideshows for photos synced from iTunes. How can I make it play thew whole slideshow without starting the loop again half way through?

My Apple TV randomly returns to the beginning in the middle of the slideshow for no reason. I don't habve the photos on shuffle
I started the slide show many times and somtimes it got through 20 photos, other times 50. Then all of a sudden, it goes back to the beginning and starts again. It's so frustrating as there is no reason for this and it doesn't loop back to the start on the same photo each time. I have about 350 photos in the album and they all loaded fine as thumbnails before I played the slideshow.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks, Adam

Have solved my own problem. My PC sits on the floor so I have a four-port USB hub on my desktop with one port in use. I use one of the other three ports for USB-related task. As I was shutting down for the night I had a - what turned out to be inspired - thought about whether there was an adequate power supply from the hub. I then tried the iPod USB connection directly into the front of my machine and everything worked. It seems that an inadequate power supply was the cause of this strange set of conditions.

How do i create a photo slideshow or fading slidshow for the welcome page in iweb

There are trillions of slideshows to be found on the internets.
Download the one you like, make it work the way you want and put it on the server.
Display it in the browser to see if it looks the way you want.
Then use the <iframe> html element to display it in a HTML Snippet.

  • How to apply a specific music for each photo slideshow

I'd like to setup a specific music for a specific photo slideshow, and to store that preferences, in some way, so that, on selecting a slideshow, automagically startup the specific song.
    Is it possible ?
    Seems not ... yet.

You can do that by preparing the slideshow in iphoto instead of on the tv, you then have to ensure you sync the slideshow and the tunes you have used in the slideshow before playing it on the tv.

  • Performance problems when using Premiere Elements for photo slideshows

    Hello,
I had been using Premiere Elements 9 (PE9) to make a simple slideshow for my parents from their vacation trip and I ran into some serious performance problems.  I had used it to create similar projects before, but not nearly as big.  This one is like 260 photos, so basically it is 260 seperate clips.  I have a POWERHOUSE workstation (see below) so it isn't my PC.  Even when PE9 crashes, looking at my performance monitor my CPU and RAM aren't even halfway being utilized.  I finally switched to Windows Movie Maker of all things and it worked seemlessly, amazing really.  I'm wondering if I was just using PE9 for something other than what it was designed for since there weren't really any video clips, just a ton of photos that I made into video clips, if that makes sense.  Based upon my experience with this so far, I can't imagine using PE9 anymore for anything really.  I might have the need for a more professional video editing program in the near future, although it does seem like PE has a lot of features.  How can I make sure it utilizes my workstation to its full potential?  Here are my specs:
    PC
Intel Core i7-2600K 4.6 GHz Overclocked
    ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Motherboard
    AMD Firepro V8800 Video Card
Crucial 128 GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (Operating System)
    Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) Memory
    Corsair H60 Liquid CPU Cooler
Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850 Power Supply
    Graphite Series 600T Mid-Tower Case
Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III Hard Drive
Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III Hard Drive
Western Digital Green 3 TB SATA III Hard Drive
    Logitech Wireless Gaming Mouse G700
I don’t play any games but it’s a great productivity mouse with 13 customizable buttons
    Wacom Intuos5 Pen Tablet
Yes, this system is blazingly fast.  I have yet to feel it slow down, even with Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator and numerous other apps running at the same time.  HOWEVER, Premiere Elements 9 has crashed NUMERUOS times, every time my system wasn't even close to being fully taxed.
Monitors – All run on the ATI V8800
    Dell Ultra Sharp 30 inch
    Samsung 27 Inch
    HAANS-G 28 Inch
Herman Miller Embody Ergonomic Chair (one of my favorite items)

    Andy,
There ARE some differences between PrE and PrPro w/ an approved CUDA-capable and MPE hardware acceleration-enabled nVidia video card, but those differences show up ONLY in the quality of the Scaling. The processing overhead is almost exactly the same, when it comes to handling the extra pixels.
As of PrPro CS 5, two things changed:
The max. size of Still Images went up from 4096 x 4096 pixels, to quite a bit larger (cannot recall the numbers now).
The Scaling algorithms have been improved, though ONLY with the correct nVidia cards, with MPE hardware support enabled.
Now, there CAN be another consideration, between the two programs, in that PrPro CS 5 - CS 6, are 64-bit ONLY, so one benefits from the computer and OS to run it. PrE can be either 32-bit, or 64-bit, so one might, or might not, be taking advantage of the 64-bit program and OS. Still, the processing overhead will be almost identical, it's just that the 64-bit OS can spread it around a bit.
I still recommend Scaling the large Still Images in PS, prior to Import, to keep that processing overhead as low as is possible. Scaled Still Images work just fine, and I have one Project with 3000+ Scaled Still Images, that edits just fine in PrPro, even on my older 32-bit workstation. Testing that same machine, and PrPro some years ago, I could ONLY work with up to 5 - 4096 x 4096 Stills, before things ground to a crawl.
Now, Adobe AfterEffects handles large Still Images differently, so I just moved that test Project to AE, and added another 20 large Images, which edited just fine. IIRC, AE can handle Still Images up to 10K x 10K pixels, and that might have gone up, as of CS 5.
Good luck, and hope that helps,
    Hunt

  • IPhone 4 HDMI output for photo slideshow. Aspect ratio squished?

Bought the Apple Digital AV Adapter and tested it today. Hooked it up via an HDMI cable to a little HD TV. Videos (YouTube or in Photo Gallery) display as they should, in widescreen just as they do on the screen. However, when I start the photo slideshow the photos are squished to the center. A full landscape photo that takes up the whole iPhone screen is squished into a square in the center of the screen. Vertical pictures are also squished to the center, distorting the ratio. When the slideshow comes to a video in my library, it displays correctly.
I talked to Apple by chat and phone and they hadn't heard of this. Can't find anything on the web. I am running the newest iOS 5. There aren't any settings to adjust the video output in settings. If the videos were squished also it would make sense...but they aren't so it doesn't.
    Anyone have any ideas?

thanks for the tip, i am extremely frustrated with imovie right now. i have a slideshow of a wedding i went to that i desperately want to share but i cant export to a good enough quality. does that export setting put the video in a format you can use on youtube or vimeo?
    thanks!

  • Glitch with playlist used for photos slideshow

Here is another interesting one - don't know whether people have noticed...
I have a mixture of smart and normal playlists. They appear on the nano in alphabetical order, unlike iTunes where he smart ones are always above the normal ones. I say this as context, because I suspect, but am not sure, that it is related to this...
When I select a playlist to use in a photo slideshow, I get the wrong one. If my playlists were numbered 1 to 7, and I select 4, I get 2. If I ask for 5, I get 3. I have exactly the right number of smart playlists above the one I want to cause this offset.
Going to test it properly later - in the meantime, anyone else notice it?

I get the same problem. There doesn't seem to be a pattern so far, so I just clicked and played until I found music I like... and left it there!
I guess there are worse problems in the world, but it would be nice to sync correctly.
