Photo slideshow on Blog Page

Question specifically for James Tseng...
1. how do you get photo's to appear randomly and overlay one another on your "blog pages"
2. And how do you get multi images to display as mini slideshows within the i-web photo template pages
Are these third party tools you've used or features readily available within i-web.
Can't help but admire your creativity. Thank you.

Hey great work so far Mr Peebly! So sorry your thread slipped past me.
So when you open up your slideshow, check out how it interacts with the browser window. Resize the browser window by dragging the lower right hand corner smaller and larger. You will see that at a certain "wideness" your slideshow starts to recenter itself in the browser window. And at a certain "narrowness" your browser starts to put horizontal scroll bars on. This point is the exact minimum width of your slideshow and will need to be the minimum width of your <iframe>. Remember that your iframe functions like a mask, so you will want your entire slideshow to show through centered in the iframe....so you must adhere to this minimum width.
The vertical width is going to depend on how many photos and in how many columns you choose to put them. You see how your photos overflow the vertical dimensions of the page? you can go back later and experiment with iPhoto Export and see if you can better fit your photos into maybe 7 columns. but then check the minimum width as above again!
So basically to get the dimensions of your slideshow, the main thing is the minimum width. For the Postcard Viewer vertical dimension is not as important, but you want to be able to see your whole slideshow. So once you have your slideshow fixed (thumbnail-wise). Drag the browser to the point where there are no scroll bars and no re-centering. The easiest way I know of to get the dimensions of something is to use the screengrab function Apple-Shift-4 and draw a box around the slideshow. The do a Get Info (Apple-i) on the screenshot file and you will see dimensions listed there under more info. These will be the dimensions to use in your <iframes> expression as well as the size of your text box to make in iWeb.
So here we are...almost there... so far your iframes expression looks like this...
<iframe src="http://homepage.mac.com/paul.best/Slideshows" width="xxx" height="xxx" scrolling="no" border="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished product!

  • Photos on front blog page

Hi. I know that in my blog, I have a choice in the inspector as to how many lines show up on the main blog page -- none or all of them. But what I can't figure out is it I can also show the photo(s) in the entry(ies) without making a person click on "read more."
If you look at sites at blogger.com, you can just see everything without ever clicking, unless of course if you want to leave a comment.
Just wondering if this functionality is somewhere and I missed it.
    Thanks a lot.

I'm a beginner and have a photo on front blog page but nothing added to either 'entries' or 'archive'. Can't I just publish a blog page plus several photo pages without having to create 'entries' and 'archive' pages? Trying to make things simple for my first Web page. (Not using .Mac)

  • Slideshow on Blog page without .mac?

    Hi there,
My wife wants to publish some pictures of our son online for friends and family. Since the pictres will be updated from time to time with some commentaries, I prefer to make a blog.
Unfortunately there is no option to have a slideshow on a blog page. I would like to have the iWeb-Slideshow on the blog page. Of course I could link to a page with a slideshow - but then it doesn't make sense to use a blog anymore.
Is there a way of having the iWeb-slideshow on my blog page without a .mac-subscription?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I know an alternative but not a solution involving iWeb. The alternative is to post the photos to Twango.com. Specific viewers can be authorized to add comments to photos. The site also lets you embed slideshows or stock market ticker moving displays in pages this. Not nearly as elegant as what iWeb can do, however, but quick to put up and easy to use. I use both iWeb and Twango to get my photos out to friends and family.

  • Embedding a photo slideshow to web page

    Hello my name is tom.
Im looking for any and all help that can be given. I recently took on a project of putting up a website for a friend. I will be the first to admit I
am NOT a programmer or coder. and some stuff is very confusing. Anyway I want to embed a photo slideshow (made from fireworks cs4)
into a web page. What I actually wanted to know is how to edit the files created to get it to work on the webpage.
It (fireworks) created  three files and two folders with the photos and thumbnails in them which are ---- index.html, black_player.swf and slideshow.xml
im trying to explain it the best I can (bare with me) If someone could explain in detail what to and how to edit I would grealty appreciate it.
I have tried and got as far as getting the the player to come up. but no images in it.  One thing I do know I cannot put the html file in the public_html folder
cause I'm not running the player off the main page. I actually want to run it off a sub folder public_html/Gallery/RFL the images folder is inside this folder also. please please help me!!
Some info if it will help
The site is http://www.sluggos-inc.com it's not up yet.
Oh yeah I have the site set up as frames I would like this player to play in the main.html frame. the template i included might work I think all the graphics point to the server so it should.
Thanks in advance if anyone could help.
    Thomas

I've never used the slideshow feature in FWs, but due to the large number of questions here and on the Fireworks forum I decided to give it a go  :-)
When I created the slideshow I was asked where I wanted to create it, so I choose a folder on my desktop.
    It created:
    Scripts folder
    Images Folder
    Index page
player_black (the skin for the Slideshow)
    slideshow xml
You can always change the location of the folder where the slide show is created, that is - create the slideshow into a sub folder of your working site files.  That way there will be need to move any files around as I descibe below.
    However, what I did was:
I copied all those folders/files into a sub folder of a defined Dreamweaver site named:  Gallery
I then opened the Gallery folder within Dreamweaver and found the index page and opened it, viewed in a browser and had no problems with viewing any of the slideshow - images were all in tact.
You need to be careful that when you move all your files that you copy *all* the folders and files that were generated when you created the slideshow. Also, when you upload the slideshow make sure that you upload *all* the files (as created above) to the remote server - that includes the scripts folder.
You do need to be careful when moving the files that you don't move them into the root of your defined site, otherwise your original index.html page will be overwritten by this newly created index.html which is the slideshow page.
The best method would be to initially create the Slideshow directly into a subfolder of your site, that way, if you ever need to update the slideshow, fireworks will know where your original files were saved to.  Otherwise, you may find that you won't be able to edit the original working files as the links may be broken or whatever.
Hope this helps a little  :-)

  • Photos/Slideshow in Blog

I am wanting to change the way in which my photos are presented in my blog. Rather than the normal album format, I would like something like this, but with the ability to add captions:
    http://roddymckay.com/VisualMedia/SimpleViewer.html
I like this because of the larger image and space saving (ie, all the images can be incorporated into a slide show).
However, this simple slideshow, as well BananAlbum, require Flash Album Exporter for iPhoto (at least I think they do) and this is no longer available.
Do you know of a way to achieve this kind of slideshow/photo album that will also allow the insertion of comments?
    Thanks

You can download FAE here: Rudin: Flash Album Exporter

  • How to post more than one photo on blog page

Can you post more than the top placeholder photo on a blog page? I'd like to post photos as they relate to the blog I'm writing but can only use the placeholder photo at the top of the entry page--is it possible to place more photos on the page or do you have to use a web layout and not a blog layout?
    Thanks.

It is possible because I Do it on my blog. All you have to do is click he media button and get the photo you want, I then drag it to the desktop, and then drag it into my blog. For some reason iweb can get a little wonkey and makes it look like it can't be done, but it can. Good luck!

  • Missing photos on blog page

OK... I'm loving iWeb, but having a strange time when adding photos to my blog page. I'll add a photo at the top of the new entry page, but when I go back to the blog page... or try to look at it on the web, some of the photos are there and some aren't and I can't find a reason for it.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Not sure exactly what you are tring to do and I'm not really sure just how the blog page is supposed to work, but I delete the latin text in the text block that is attached to the bottom area of the page. the area where the apple logo, etc is. I collapse the box as small as it will go, grab the box itself and move it down to allow more room for pictures. I just keep moving it down as necessary stacking pictures as I go. Seem a bit cumbersome, but it works.
    hope that makes sense.
    good luck

  • How do i make a photo slideshow / banner for the welcome page in iWeb

How do i create a photo slideshow or fading slidshow for the welcome page in iweb

There are trillions of slideshows to be found on the internets.
Download the one you like, make it work the way you want and put it on the server.
Display it in the browser to see if it looks the way you want.
Then use the <iframe> html element to display it in a HTML Snippet.

  • Adding a photo gallery to a blog page?

I see the last queries about being able to do this are from 2006.  I'm wondering if it is any easier now.  I'm creating a website for a film series project.  I used a 'blog' template so I could easily manage about 20 separate films (without having scores of pages to deal with).  Right now each of those 'blog' pages has a large number of free floating photos (shots from the film).  They take too long to load.  I'm wondering if I could create a photo gallery instead, ON the blog entry page, that would contain the pics, and allow for fast loads?
Just wondering how one might create a photo gallery on a 'blog' entry page.
    Ben

Having looked at your site, I would say that you layout is very artistic and would be completely ruined by using a photos template.
DPI doesn't realy come into it as this is used for print. iWeb does have image optimization but its better to turn it off and reduce the image to the dimensions (in px) that it will appear on the web page before dragging it into the app.
If you want to maximise the SEO and make the pages more interesting for us humans, I would add descriptive captions to the images and put them in the spaces between the staggered image layout.
If you are comtemplating designing for mobile devices, you need to use every trick in the book to to reduce file sizes and cut content to the bone.
I have been using responsive designs for quite a while now and learned a lot of hard lessons along the way on what works and what doesn't on mobile devices. Some more examples HERE.
iPads are big enough for a traditional website to work on them as long as you pay attention to making the links and other user controls finger sized. I did figure out a way to make an iPhone compatible site using iWeb if you are interested...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Mobile-iWeb.html
I must admit that I detest Wordpress although there are some responsive desgns available now. I did a test with one of the free ones but its a total pain and there doesn't appear to be any plugins for HTML5, responsive media players. I had to figure this out all on my own. If you click the Blog button on this page you should get there.

  • Photos in text of blog entry do not port to main blog page

I have posted before about the photos from my entry page disappearing when ported to my main blog page. I have yet to find a solution so I'm asking for help again.
I'm am trapped using iWeb 1.1 until I find a solution. I use the Modern Template with modifications. Usually I delete the snowboarding surfer placeholder. Please note I'm not concerned that this photo doesn't port. I don't want it to. I do however need the photos that I have embedded via text wrap within my blog entry to port to the main blog page. They do not.
I have tried keeping the snowboarder place holder and redoing entries with wrapped text, but my additional photos are still missing. I have checked the box in iWeb 2 that says show photos. My layouts conveted to iWeb 2 look perfect on the entry's page, and horrible with missing photos on the summary page.
This problem is beyond frustrating. My blog can be seen here, however it is still the iWeb 1.1 format.
    http://web.mac.com/knittsings/iWeb/knittsings/knittsings/knittsings.html
As you can see, almost all my entries have numerous photos. I want them to display on the main blog page.
Am I missing something very basic? I have seen others with this same question but no one seems to have had any luck resolving this problem.
    Thanks,
    Kathryn

And that's the way it should be.

  • My iWeb's main blog page has photos of entries all mixed up

My site is egsilberman.com and all but the main blog page is functioning.  The index.html looks perfect, the page listing all the blog pages using the index.html in the browser looks as it should.
But after uploading the site to my FTP - using iWeb SEO Tool - the main landing page of the blog has all the photos, except the most recent entry, mixed up.  The blog entries are in order, listed according to date, but the photos associated with the entries - the key photos shown on the main blog page - are all goofed up: randomly placed throughout the entries.
Oddly, all the blog pages are functioning fine.  It's just the main blog landing photos that're off.
On the iWeb side I've reloaded everything from scratch...trashed caches, plists, etc, but it doesn't seem to be the problem.  Again, the index.html site and blog (main page) are all in order. I'm not an expert by any means, so the change in the blog is confounding me.  It was working fine until earlier this week.
Is it the SEO uploader?  My FTP/host?  Something I could do to help?  I do not know what to do.  Any advice or direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks for considering this question.
    Evan

Roddy, thank you for many things.
Firstly, for your clear direction in encouraging me to upload my site AFTER SEO'ing it using a dedicated FTP. I used Cyberduck.  Then, following the line of thinking that the index.html needed to be uploaded as well, I did that.  Simple as it sounds it took a bit of courage on my part.
This got my blog summary page photos back in line with their individual entries.
Bigger still was seeing that the index.html file I uploaded made a /Site/ reference to the "Site" folder that's local on my desktop but not present in my server's folder.  And seeing this in the browser address bar, I altered the text of the index.html by eliminating the /Site.  Cyberduck offered ways to do this.  I pushed save.
Cedric at http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Folder_FTP.html has a helpful step by step on using FTP and Cyberduck.  I followed his instruction as I went.
As tiny as this is to those of you who know the workings of your sites, it, for me, is like looking under the hood of a car and being ABLE to fix it. Not something I normally do.  Maybe it'll break down in a mile.  But for now it's fixed, and humming along.
I'm looking now toward getting an optimization app.  If I'm correct, and I follow your publishing workflow path, Roddy, http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Website-Publishing-Wo rkflow.html, I will, after optimizing, then upload again to my server - using the post-optimized folder as the final source of feeding the server.  Then you list other steps - uploading new sitemaps to all the major search engines - I purchase Rage's Sitemap Automater - will use that for that.
There is a methodical flow to all this, and I will learn it and implement it.  Leaving MobileMe and moving to FTP and FTP practices was a leap.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Blog page not showing photo

    Hi,
Quick question I just created a blog entry and the main photo from the blog entry is not coming up on the blog page.
You can see it when you click 'read more'.
    thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
This has happened because you probably deleted the placeholder photo (the one with the stock photo of the skiers or whatever) instead of dropping another photo into it. I did this a couple times in the past, too. I really wish Apple made these placeholder boxes undeletable like the text placeholders.
Anyways, the only solution to your problem is to redo the page from scratch. I mean you can cut and paste stuff, but you need to add a new entry and then make sure to drag the photo that you want displayed INTO the placeholder box. It will replace the stock photo in there and then if you click over to the main page, you will see the summary preview photo there, too.

  • Can I change the format of my "comments" box on my blog page

Hi there, I'm new to iWeb and have designed my first website. Great fun and I'm very excited about it but on my "blog" page I would like to get more information from the comment senders. Is there a way I can change the comment box format? For example I would like to change "Comment as" to "Your name", "URL" to "Your occupation" and add two more fill-in fields. Is that possible?
b.t.w. Is that html, java or php? sorry if I sound a bit ignorant, as mentioned I am new to this.
    Thanks for any advice
    Tony

As you know MobileMe will be discontinued by Apple on June 30, 2012.  When MMe goes away so will your blog comments.
So if you want to continue your blogging you will have to create a blog on one of the existing blogging sites and copy and past your entries and comments into it.
However, Rage Software has created an application, iWeb to WordPress, which will convert your blog to a WordPress blog, complete with your entires and user comments.
You can then use either WordPress.org or WordPress.com to create your blog and host it on your new server.
This may be of some interest to you: Life After MobileMe.
Furthermore it is now confirmed that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • HT4686 How can I publish my website developed using iWeb and have all functions of the blog page work as it did with MobileMe?

I have developed a website using iWeb and it includes a blog page selected from stock pages in iWeb.  I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching).  Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

  • Is there any reason photos in an album page display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?

Is there any reason photos in an album page created in iweb display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?

there are three displays in photos page:
    1) thumbnails grid - smallest
    2) deatial view and detail view slideshow - large
    3a) pop-up slideshow - vary - this is slideshow.html
    3b) or iphone/ipad slideshow phoneshow.html - iphone/ipad can't do pop-up
it's difficult to know which you refer to.
if you refer to pop-up slideshow then you should not look into iwebmediagrid.js as wyodor suggested.
instead look in phoneshow.html and change width and heigth of element id slideshow:
    #slideshow {
    position: relative;
width: 320px; /* this is default width */
height: 360px; /* this is default height */
    margin-left: auto;
    margin-right: auto;
    overflow: hidden;
