Photo space and iTunes

I've been looking on the forums and I'm pretty sure that this question hasn't been answered, but everytime i try to sync a photo folder to my iPod, iTunes keeps telling me that my iPod doesn't have enough space to put the photos on there. My iPod still has 40 or more MB of space and the folder im trying to sync is only 2.63MB. does anyone know what i can do about this?

Hi, just bought (on route) new iMac and want to know how to move all files, photos and itunes to it hard drive permanently from my MacBook.
MacBook being given to daughter after so want to transfer everything and then wipe clean. I am ok with computers wbut not the best. I am running a network through my time machine if that helps?

Spaces and iTunes quitting issues

I have given iTunes it's own "Space"-- and when I choose to quit the application outside of the iTunes Space, the program will refuse to quit.
Once I move over to that space it will shut down.
I am using iTunes 7.5 (19) and Mac OS X 10.5.1
I don't believe there is a fix, but am just hoping someone from Apple takes note.

You enable iTunes Match on your iPad by making sure your are signed into the Apple ID you used to subscribe in iTunes Match in Settings>iTunes & App Stores, then turning iTunes Match and Show All Music to On.
Also, iTunes Match doesn't use your iCloud storage plan so you don't need to purchase a storage upgrade to use it.

I have 2 iCloud accts. One is old iTunes acct, the other is a MobileMe acct. I bought extra space and iTunes Match on the iCloud acct using my original iTunes ID. Now my phone will not let me turn on iTunes match cuz it defaults to the MobileMe iCloud ID.

New mac user - photos, vlc and itunes

I am a new mac user coming from Windows
In windows i organised my photos into folders such as holidays, cars etc. Within a folder i would then have other folders i.e usa, oz. How can i do something simular in iphoto, I cant seem to put an album within an album
I have some .avi videos. I have downloaded VLC player for mac. How can i set this to the default player for this type of file as when i click on the file it tries to open quicktime. Files do play fine if opened from within VLC.
How can I copy my itunes playlists from my windows computer to my mac. I tried to copy over an exported playlist file but could not "see" it on my stick when plugged into my mac.
I have also have downloaded msn messenger and the vlc player from the web. I have managed to put the application icons in the dock but i still have a white box shaped icon in the top right of the desktop. How can i get rid of this and still run the applications??

You might be more interested in Adobe Elements or something else.
iPhoto treats application and media library folders as "package" which hides the folder and file structure inside - Get Info on any package to "show contents" but I don't know how much customizing you can do. Originals, modified copies, your photo library can and will grow like a relational database.

Huge mismatch between iPod 'available' space and iTunes 'free space'

My iPod Nano reports (using the About menu):
Capacity = 3.7 GB
Available = 1.8 GB
which feels about right (430 songs loaded). However, when plugged into iTunes for Windows 6.0.2, iTunes says about this iPod:
Used = 3.64 GB
Free = 95 MB
and won't let me load any more music onto the iPod beyond what it "thinks" is the free capacity. What gives???

C17, welcome to discussions! The only way to resolve a capacity conflict like the one you seem to be having with your Nano/iTunes is to restore the Nano. The following link will give you complete instructions.

Syncing photo library and itunes

I don't even know if I am in the right discussion group. I would like to know if anyone knows how to have a master copy of your iphoto library and for that matter your itunes library on one computer(laptop) and a copy on another computer hardrive(desktop) that are synced over a wireless network? I would like while I an in the wireless network for the library's to sync at regular intervals. And when I leave the proximity of the network and make modification to the library's to have it prompt me to make sure I want to update the slave drive when I return. I don't even know if this is possible, if some one knows a solution for this or a work around please let me know. Or if I need to find solutions elsewhere.

I don‘t know about iTunes but this Syncing is not possible with iPhoto.
But let’s be clear here: By Syncing you mean two way copying, right? Changes made on the laptop are reflected on the desktop, and those made on the desktop reflected on the Laptop?
Bluntly there is no syncing software that is capable of parsing the iPhoto Library, and attempting to sync them will corrupt one or both Libraries.
The best you can do is use iPhoto Library Manager to move pics, albums or events plus associated metadata between libraries. But this process cannot be automated.
If, however, you mean one way copying: changes made on the laptop are copied to the Desktop, then any back up utility will do that.

If they were put there via iTunes sync process, then simply untick the Music box before syncing again.

Assuming you are using iTunes 11.1:
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
In iTunes towards the upper right of your screen you will see the name of your iPhone. Click on it (not the eject symbol.
This will open a series of windows with tabs.
Select the tab for photos.
Untick the ones you do not want on your iPhone and at the bottom right click on Apply.
They will be removed.

I did an iphone 4 software update. It then asked me to do a "restore" in order for me to be able to use the latest iTunes. I did a "restore" to "factory settings" (this was the only option listed) thinking I'd be able to sync later and get everything back and ended up losing all my purchased apps and iTunes. Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...

The photo sync is one-way: Computer to phone. Photos synced to your phone will have to be extracted from your phone using third-party software, if you want them on your computer, as Apple makes no provision to do so. Since you're using a Mac, you can use this:

Yes external drive shows up in finder on desk top and can change to in the media folder location thing!
My external hard drive is a WD Elements. I have no idea about permissions to the external? Do i Have to format external hard drive to a mac?

HT3847 Using 'Grand Perspective' to see my files, I have both iTunes media and iTunes music files. It seems I have 'organised' my media, but should or need there still be both types of files? I am running out of HD space and thought, maybe, 'merging' .

I'm trying to free up disk space. When I look at my files using 'Grand Perspective' (Like 'Disk Inventory X'), I see songs in both iTunes music and iTunes media files. I'm wonder if there is some kind of duplication between them. Could I find HD space by doing something with these files? I've already 'organised' them using the iTunes library feature. But I note that it seems that organizing could leave the old (?) files in their 'original place'. That sounds to me like duplication.
I'm not at all a 'techie' so don't know where to go from here.

You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it.
