Photo stitch in iPhoto8

Hi all, is it possible to photo stitch in iPhoto8?

No.
iPhoto is not an image editor. It’s firmly focussed on organising and post-processing your photos. For content creation you’ll need an external editor.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Photo-merge or photo-stitch?

Is there a way to take several photos amd merge them into a panorama with Aperture? I know Photoshop can do it, but I'd like to try it in Aperture, if possible. Thanks in advance!

Aperture doesn't have any panoramic functions. Photoshop 'attempts' to do something, but it's usually pretty useless, especially with wide-angle shots.
To be honest you'd be better off looking at some proper stitching software:
PTMac from www.kekus.com which is cheap, powerful but not that easy to learn, good user forum.
Realviz Stitcher from www.realviz.com which costs the same as Aperture and is nearly as buggy, even in v5.0.4, but is very easy to learn.

  • Adding photo stitch to LR

I already purchase LR 5.7 - I am interested by the photo stich application - do I need to buy CC or can I buy a non Cloud solution? Fact that I already purchased LR means I will pay less?

I personally use a program called AutoPanoGiga because it allows tweaking of the panorama and perfecting it in various ways.   With PS you’re stuck with whatever it detects and about the only thing you can do is remask the junction between the layers it computed.
Here is the AutoPanoGiga website, where they do have a trial:
    http://www.kolor.com/image-stitching-software-autopano-giga-interface.html
    There is a cheaper AutoPanoPro.
There is a free open source panorama stitching software called Hug-In.  It does allow tweaking of the panorama, but not quite as good as AutoPanoPro/Giga, but it might be a place to start, if you can figure it out:
    http://hugin.sourceforge.net/
AutoPanoGiga has a plug-in for LR where you can just high-light some images and then do an Export-to-AutoPanoGiga and it’ll either make JPGs or TIFs and open those in APP/G for further work.

  • Photo Stitching (i.e. compositing) with Aperture

Hi, I'm a new Macer using 1.5 Aperture and want to stitch some pitures together to create a panoramic view.
I thought Aperture would do this, but after using it, I don't think it has the capability, so if I'm wrong, please correct me. Although it doesn't appear to stitch, I/m still happy with the s/w.
I know Shake4.0 can stitch, but that is more of a s/w solution then I'm looking for. My new iMac took most of my money.
So, can anyone recommend a third party s/w (free or cheap) to stitch photos on an iMac using Aperture 1.5???

The main Mac stitching programs are:
PTGui (.com) - which started out as a Windows app but has recently been ported to Mac. Intel-native. Bit of a learning curve but very powerful.
PTMac - originally the mac equivalent to PTGui, but has fallen quite a bit behind in terms of speed and features compared to PTGui. Written by the same person who wrote Calico, as linked above. NOT Intel-native
Calico - much easier to use than either of the 'PT' apps, but no real control if it doesn't do what you expect. Intel-native.
Autopano Pro - similar to Calico in ease of use, but with a bit more control, and more geared towards people who shoot quite a lot of panoramas.
Canon Photostitch - free with your camera is a bonus. Pretty easy to use, but can't cope with wide-angle lenses and very limited output options.
Photoshop & Elements - if you already have a copy it might be worth trying the photomerge function, but generally it's useless in comparison to a proper stitching program, even PhotoStitch.
Lastly, Realviz Stitcher - Express costs about the same as the other apps but is relatively limited in output options. The full version costs as much as all the other apps put together, and is fairly easy to use, powerful, but rather buggy. NOT Intel-native.
As Scott says, always apply the same adjustments to all the images in a panorama - lift-n-stamp is a WONDERFUL tool for the panoramic photographer. In fact, when shooting you should always try and lock focus, zoom, white balance and exposure, or you will get rather frustrated when trying to put the images together.
So says your friendly neighbourhood panoramic photographer...

  • Photo appearance in iphoto8

Hello, after browsing the forum how to get rid of the thumbs, I came across the 'how to sort photos' answer as to: sort by title, which would be so handy...I did it and - now I have a l l my photos loose (ca. 2000) sorted by a 'title' I did not give them (img-102, 103 etc.)
The way they were sorted before, by 'events' named by me, has gone and I can not get it back.
As said, I had renamed the photo-displays (it looked like 'rolls' in older versions) that iphoto presented standard after updating and I thought that those titles would be the one to sort by - but obviously that's not the case.
I do have the 'event' display though (the small squares) but since there are so many it's hard to merge and sort photos by them.
Please, how can I get back the photo's sorted in photo-events (confusing anyway these self creating events one per week) that I can give names.??

    Terence,
that was precisely what I had to do!! thanks a lot.
Would you -or someone else- have a suggestion how to handle this:
in the 'birthday' event I have e.g. 10 photos but 2 of them I want in 'family' - now I drag the 2 (hoping to not drop them on the way) to the high up on the page 'family'-event.
It works - but is this the only way of changing the iphoto-order into mine?

  • Recommended plug-ins/apps for panorama stitching in Aperture?

Does anyone have any recommendations for photo stitching plug-ins/apps that "play well" with Aperture?
I end up taking a large number of panorama series (horizontal, vertical, and occasionally 2D grid), and I would love to be able to select a stack in Aperture and "edit with plug-in" to create a stitched image (like Photomatix does with HDR series). Failing that, any recommendations of a reliable external app and a recommended Aperture workflow?
(I had been using ArcSoft Panorama Maker, but it has proven highly unreliable -- lots of crashes and inability to process a number of seemingly-straightforward series --, and its somewhat nonstandard UI becomes pretty cumbersome if you have to use it a lot.)
    Thanks!

    Mike,
I will share my workflow, but I cannot really recommend it as "best" since I have not tried other software or workflows, but it works well for me.
I do not use any plugin (and I'm not aware of one right now). I use Hugin, freeware from SourceForge http://sourceforge.net/projects/hugin/.
After importing RAW photos into Aperture (I use a managed library for the most part, but that's neither here nor there), I stack each set of photos that belong in the same panorama. I export the photos from each stack as TIFFs to a predefined folder that contains my pano input and outputs. I run the photos through Hugin and output as JPG files. Then I import those pano outputs as referenced photos into Aperture. For each pano output, I add it to the corresponding stack and make it the stack pick. I crop and do color adjustment if necessary on that final version. Finally, I go back to my predefined folder and delete the TIFFs that I exported from Aperture.
    A couple notes:
I use JPG as output since there are so many pixels in most panoramas that I could probably print it out large enough to cover my living room wall before seeing JPG artifacts.
I delete the TIFFs from my pano folder because they're just wasting space at that point. I can recreate them from my Aperture versions at any point, and I'm probably not going to use them outside Aperture.
It's really easy to add the pano to the stack of its "source" photos, since Hugin ensures the EXIF date matches the first photo in your pano. By sorting my date in Aperture, a newly imported pano shows up adjacent to the "source" stack.
I import the final JPG as referenced because I want to keep track of all the parameters saved in my Hugin project (I.e., what are the source photos; what were the control points; roll/pitch/yaw; pano algorithm, etc.). That project file is not a picture, so Aperture won't manage it. However, I store the final JPG in the same place as its corresponding project file. With a referenced master, I can use Aperture to show me the location in finder, an voila, I have found the Project file, too. If ever I need to recreate the pano for some reason, I can look at the project file and see what pictures I need to export from Aperture to start the process over again.
    Hope this is helpful!

  • Tile Function in LR ... Printing Large Photos

I have a 360 degree photo, stitched, from the top of Mt St Helens. I'm trying to figure out how to break it up into six pictures so I can frame each. It would be nice to have this feature in LR.
Can someone point me to a program / feature to help me with this task?
    Thanks

Lightroom can do this if the image is small enough to be opened in LR. You could make 6 Virtual Copies, cropping each one to 1/6 size, with or without overlap, and print from there.
Size is dependent on number of horizontal pixels (for normal panos).

  • Creating Photo Collages with Automator

    Hi.
I'd like to use automator to create a photo collage from a set of pictures.
Let's say I have four pictures, each of varying dimensions. They're named sequentially in the order I'd like them to appear. I'd like an automator script that would take the photos, scale them to the same height (they're in portrait layout), and arrange them left to right in a collage.
I'd like the result being four photos stitched right next to each other, all the same height, filling out the screen. The ideal scenario would obtain the height of the tallest photo and upscale the others to that same height. But I'd settle for a set height (determined either by a fixed number or a prompt asking the user to set it each time).
    Thanks.

Haven't had time to work on this problem but I have seen something almost identical done before. The result was a 20" x 30" poster but The same process should work with your photos. http://media.libsyn.com/media/macbreak/macbreak20060615-008-450p-h264.mov

  • Panorama stitching.  Is there a LR4 plug-in?

    Hi,
I am interested in stitching 5 shots inside Fenway baseball park.  I use Lightroom, but I don't have Photoshop.   Is there a separate tool or better yet a plug in that would allow me to stitch photos together?   Any guidance on whether to edit the photos first in LR, then export each and assemble, or to start with stitching and then edit in LR?    The camera files are in RAW from a Nikon D300.
    Thanks!
    Dave

Hugin is an amazing and free program for stitching, however it does not do multiple exposure like PTgui Pro does
PTgui Pro does tone mapped HDR and fusion based ( much more natural looking) HDR.
I've tried both, but PTgui is just amazing -
this shot is 9 photos stitched together using PTgui) A tripod was used as each shot was 15 seconds.
This shot was hand held and again stitched with PTgui
This shot is made up of 15 photos, 3 exposures taken (-2,0,+2) then the camera rotated 10 degrees and the process repeated. It was stitched with PTgui and also fusion blended using the HDR Fusion option within PTgui.
They are not plugins, but very powerful tools for panoramics
    enjoy

  • Some photos in iphoto won't import to imovie

I have 196 photos in an iphoto album and only 37 are imported to imovie. When viewing the photo info it is apparent that the ones that won't import were created by scanning color slides. These have missing information such as origination date, digitization date and all camera and exposure information.
Does imovie prevent importation because of this type of information that is missing when the colr slides were scanned?

Try opening one of the problem jpeg files in Preview, then Save As a jpeg with a different name. For some reason, certain jpegs created in 3rd party applications are not always recognised as such by some Mac software. It could be to do with how some scanners save files. Some time ago I had an issue like this - re-saving the files in Preview fixed the problem. From memory, it related to an Epson photo stitching program (for doing panoramas) - the files were saved as jpegs, but wouldn't import to iPhoto. Saving again with Preview solved it.
It's worth a try! If one works, they all should work once re-saved (quite a few to work through though).

  • Tiling many aerial photos together

I'd appreciate any advice on this one. I use Photoshop Cs3 to tile aerial photos together. I have done up to a hundred images from an 19 mp camera and Photoshop has done them in one batch in about an hour to 90 minutes. I have a job to do that involves 200 images from a 36 mp camera and it just ain't happening. I try to break the job up by tiling a section together and then doing another section but when I go to put the sections together (or add new photo's to a section)...the large block has been resized so I'm trying to put big images into a small hole. Can anyone help me with this?

Not sure about Photoshop, but perhaps AutoPanoGiga can do it:
    http://www.kolor.com/image-stitching-software-autopano-giga-photo-stitching-feature.html
I think the trial version will watermark the output and may expire, but it should be good enough to test for capacity.

  • I have a PowerShot SX10 IS with no software. Do I NEED the original 37.1 version?

I have a PowerShot SX10 IS with no software. I found lots of versions of digital camera solution cd's on ebay. Do I HAVE to use the original version that came with the camera or can I use a different version? The main program I want to use is Photo Stitch. Thanks ~Jes

You can use any version, but there is a workaround that you don't need to original CD to install Photostich software which is free on Canon site.

  • Cannot copy RAW images to Tiff or Jpeg in ACR

Requesting immediate help if anyone available currently
I've been using Photoshop CS6 for several years, never a problem at all. As soon as I bought Creative Cloud, I see many issues that cannot be resolved or are recurring.
Again today as I go to copy files (images) from Adobe Camera Raw, to say a Tiff or a Jpeg, it appears to begin to copy as normal, then suddenly a box appears with all my copying
file name/numbers, and it begins to eliminate one by one "Cannot Create File", failing the entire process to copy. I have never seen this until I began using Creative Cloud about a
    month ago.
Can anyone help this Saturday evening as i am trying to complete a large project of images for others who expect them soon.?

    Hi Rick
Thanks for clarifying that. Yes, that term was my mistake, as I meant to write 'Save As"
Another forum respondent just replied also, and he states as so many others do, that they do not use
the Adobe Camera Raw app formerly with CS6, as they instead use Lightroom, so he apologized that he
was not familiar with ACR but that I might have an old CS6 plug-in running that may not be completely
compatible with the new Creative Cloud. I am not sure if this is the problem.
What I would find as not really likely, is that the Creative Cloud engineers would go through all the trouble
to redesign from the old CS6, then even assist us over the phone to help install it, but in oversight,
leave us without a proper update to properly run Adobe Camera Raw. I also have never really understood the advantage of Lightroom. I'm sure that many must enjoy its efficiency, as I hear wedding photographers like it for huge batch processing of adjusting many images in synchronicity all at once. I would say that I do the same with ACR accessing it through Bridge, and I like ACR's quick and simple access for simple image adjustments and then say a small batch all synchronized, then finally to "Save As" for all selected to a final output as Tiff or Jpeg.
As an astronomer that has just started learning to use Registax for night sky images, we also like the ACR adjustments and then to "Save As" eg. all Jpeg or all Tiff, to then photo-stitch large landscape and night sky panoramas with Microsoft ICE photo-stitching.
Sorry for the long description here, but I hope to relate the total idea of what I am doing for the past years. I'll even attach an example >
Thanks for your possible solution to my problem in "Saving As" in ACR,

  • What Does Apple Have Against Panoramas?

There must be a reason for the lack of a "photo stitch" feature to create panoramas or "wide angle" composites in iPhoto and Aperture. Not even the download section of the Apple web site has such an "add in" listed for Aperture let alone iPhoto. I know there are programs available such as Photoshop and Kekus Digital available for the Mac but what is wrong with these photo tools that leaves them out of the feature sets sponsored by Apple?

I generally assume that anything an Apple program won't do is explained by the notion of the 80 Percent Solution, in which Apple advises other developers that generally it is better to skip a feature that <20% of users will want, in favor of keeping the program easy to use for the other 80% who really need the basics.
"If you try to design for the 20 percent of your target audience who are power users, your design may not be usable by the other 80 percent of users."
    http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/A ppleHIGuidelines/XHIGDesignProcess/XHIGDesignProcess.html
It makes me less annoyed to think that missing features are the tradeoff for ease-of-use--all I have to do is look at Photoshop, which can do everything but I find beyond un-usable, to recognize the value in this.
Although in this case, while I visit many stunningly beautiful places, and possess all the necessary tools, I have never actually bothered to set up a panorama.
Plus, of course, Patrick's excellent point that iPhoto is NOT a photo editing program.
