Photo stream adding multiple empty Projects

In Aperture 3.3.2, with Mountain Lion I am using iCloud an the Photo Stream. Aperture has started adding empty Projects representing prior months from the Photo Stream. I can delete the Projects and when Aperture restarts, the Projects return. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the green mark, Bob. I appreciate it.
I wish I knew a solution that worked with automatic import. But it is highly erratic. One problem seems to be, is that Aperture recreates projects that I deleted long ago, if one of my other devices adds images to the PhotoStream again that originally came from the deleted projects. It is so random, that I turned automatic import off.
And frankly, nine out of 10 images that get automatically added to my stream are images that I do not want on either of my devices, so it saves a lot of work not to be forced to delete them, after an automatic download.
Have you looked at the iCloud forum? Perhaps you find a solution there?

  • I have photos that are rotated within a photo stream created from a project even though the photo displays properly within the project. How can I get the photos to have the proper rotation within the photo stream?

I have a photo stream that was created from a subset of photo from a rather large Aperature project. Some of the photos show up rotated within the photo stream but are not rotated within the project. Why is this happening and how do I fix the rotation within the photo stream? I do have the latest version of Aperature and have all of the necessary updates applied to my devices used to view the photo stream. The photos do show up rotated within the photo stream segment of Aperature, so I am sure it is not an issue with the output device (iPad and Apple TV). I do know that I cannot edit photos within a photo stream, but no amount of editing within the project allows the photos to be properly rotated within the photo stream. All help would be greatly appreciated.

That will work, but it is the long way 'round.
As Frank noted, Book Albums are just specialized Albums.  Albums can show any Image in your Library, regardless of where the Album is located on the Library Inspector, and regardless of which Project contains the Image.  You can put your Albums anywhere (in a Folder called "Books" for example).  You can put Images from anywhere in your Library in any Album.
    The easy way 'round:
    - Make a new Book Album
    - Select Images you may want to put in your Book.  Flag them.
    - Select some more.  Flag them.
    - Go to the "Flagged" container (listed near the top of the Library Inspector), select all, and drag-and-drop them to your Book Album.
    - Repeat as needed, or just drag-and-drop directly into the Book Album.
Note that you can remove any Image from any Album (including Books) by selecting and hitting the "{Delete}" key.  This _does not remove the Image from the Project that contains it, or from the Library.
Note, too, that once the Images are in your Book Album, you then put them in the Book you are creating for publication.  The Book Album contains the superset of Images with which you populate the Book itself.  The Book Album also holds the Book.
A good (imho ) introduction to the parts of Aperture can be found in this short guide I wrote.
The User Manual is helpful.  Here is
    the chapter on making Books.
    From that chapter, here is
the section detailing how to create and populate a Book Album.

  • Photo stream added to side bar but not updating

I've added Photo Stream to the Finder Side Bar of OSX Mavericks through the Smart Folder Saved Search option.
However, the photo stream in the Finder Side Bar is not updating with new pictures taken from my iPhone.
Would anyone have a solution possibly to allow the photo stream to update and be shown in the Finder?

Hmmm... not sure about PC but I did have this same problem while syncing to my MAC... the cause was that my contacts sync was conflicting with other sync data... Once I changed settings for Mobile Me with contacts and address book it was resolved...
For PC... my only guess would be that a program that is told to sync contacts doesn't allow or is conflicting with the assigned photo you've set on iPhone...

  • TS4403 My Photo stream folder is empty on my PC (using iCloud Control Panel)

I am using iCloud Control Panel on a Windows 7 PC and my IPod touch (4th gen. running iOS 6.0.1) has photo stream enabled and is connected to wifi. I have the control panel set to auto-sync my photo streams, and when I open the folder on my PC I can view all shared photo streams--those shared originated by myself and by others. However, the folder for my photo stream (those not shared) is completely empty. Yet the pictures display in my photo stream on my ipod just fine.
I'm trying to sell the ipod (and currently have not other iOS devices). I would like to secure all of my photos before wiping the device.

I had the same problem with iCloud 2.0.   There is another thread which posted a link to a previous version iCloud (v.1.1).  I downloaded it, uninstalled v2.0 and I have my Photos syncing to my PC again.  I am sure the iCloud version I installed will not support some of the new features in IOS 6 for Photostream, but I am not using them at the moment.  So I will can wait until Apple issues version 2.1 of iCloud to fix these problems.
As a side from note, I was able to "check" the check box after several attemps.  However, when going into the Photostream library in explorer, Explorer would subsequently crash on me.  Hope it gets fixed soon.

  • Photo stream- adding new member on iPad Mini

The display for albums is not the same as on the iPhone.  I can't seem to figure out how to add a new member to my personal photo stream on the mini, only have an edit button.

While in my current photo stream, if I click edit, the only options I have on the task bar are : share-(which
Is gray'd out unless I select photos), Delete or Add.  There is no + sign.
Is there some other place I can goto to see current members on my existing stream to add another member?
While viewing all the streams, which appear as small deck cards, there is a + sign there but it's only to add a new stream.

  • Photo stream with multiple folders

    Hi,
Can’t Apple TV see more than one level of folders when streaming photos? i have the following folders hierarchy vacations-> 2007->Brazil for whatever reason when I set the shared folder to be “vacations” Apple TV claim that there are no pictures in the shared library. if I set the shared library to 2007 it will work and will see all my vacation’s folders under the 2007 folder. I remember that it used to work long time ago and Itune will stream the pictures in all the subfolders no matter if the folders are one or more level deep. any thoughts what is wrong?
I use Win7, latest iTune, Apple TV v3.0.
    Thanks!

  • How can I see My Photo Stream from two Macs associated with the same Apple ID?

I have a MacBook Pro (my personal machine) and an iMac (our family computer).
The iPhoto library housing all of our family photos lives on the iMac.
The iPhoto library on my MacBook Pro is currently empty.
I have an account on both machines.  I have associated the same Apple ID with both machines.
When I launch iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and attempt to turn on photo sharing (so that I can see My Photo Stream, as well as other shared streams), iPhoto informs me that "iCloud Photos for xxx@xxx is being used with another library named 'iPhoto Library'."
My iPhone, which is also affiliated with the same Apple ID, shows the streams just fine.
What can I do to remedy this situation?  I'd like to be able to view my shared streams on my MacBook Pro, while leaving the actual massive photo library on the iMac.

I found out about this issue when I created a new library with some photo's I wanted to sync to my iCloud account.  I found the following on the Fat Cat Software page and thought it might be helpful to others:
Using Photo Stream with multiple libraries
Starting in iPhoto 9.2, Apple introduced a new feature called Photo Stream, which lets you automatically transfer photos via their iCloud service between your iPhoto library and your other devices such as an iPhone, iPad, or another Mac. This feature works when you have multiple iPhoto libraries set up, but there are a couple things to be aware of.
First, iPhoto will only allow Photo Stream to be active in one iPhoto library at any given time. If you've already enabled Photo Stream in one library, but then open a second library and enable Photo Stream there, this will cause Photo Stream to be turned off in the first library.
Any photos downloaded by Photo Stream are actually stored in an entirely separate location from any of your iPhoto libraries. This means that, even if you do switch Photo Stream from one library to another, you will not need to go through redownloading all the photos you already have in Photo Stream back from the iCloud servers. So, switching Photo Stream from one library to another is a relatively inexpensive operation, so you can do it as often as needed without it being much of a hassle.

  • Aperture photos from Photo Stream not syncing in iTunes

    Hi
I am running Aperture 3.4.3 on an iMac running 10.8.2.  I have Photo Stream enabled.  When I open Aperture, it downloads all the recent photos from Photo Stream and puts them in to one or more automatically created projects called something like "Mar 2013 Photo Stream".  As I understand it, Aperture is copying the photos from Photo Stream to these new projects, so when Photo Stream eventually deletes the photos (say because I reach the 1000 photo limit), the downloaded versions in Aperture won't affected.  So far, so good.
Because the new projects in Aperture start with the month name, I have taken to renaming these folders to something like "2013 03 March Photo Stream", and you can then sort them alphabetically.  This might be red herring though.
When I open iTunes and connect my iPhone, I have selected to sync photos from all Events in the last 12 months.  This should include all the projects that were created in Aperture.  This is where I hit the problem.  Some of the projects sync just fine.  Others do not.  When they don't sync, 2 things happen:
    1. The Events don't appear on the iPhone
    2. When I look in iTunes, all the affected Events have the same item count.  The item count is correct for one project, but not the others.  So, for example, I have 4 projects at the moment that won't sync, and all show in iTunes with an item count of 1.  Only one project actually contains 1 photo, the rest have many more.
I have tried all sorts of things in Aperture, such as rebuilding the data, deleting the iPod Photo Cache etc.
    Does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks.

As far as I can tell, my problems have been caused by me renaming the automatic import projects in Aperture.  I did notice that Aperture kept creating new empty projects for the same month.
This solution from Jannem1970, posted on this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3585677?start=0&tstart=0, seems to have done the trick for me.
    - turn off automatic import for Photo Stream;
    - identify 'the ghost'-projectfolders, select and delete them;
    - close Aperture (this saves the current setting and condition of your library);
    - open Aperture again;
    - turn on automatic import for Photo Stream.

  • Photo Stream Albums Reappear in Aperture

So at the start of each month I move the contents of the previous month's Photo Stream project into a main project for the year and then I delete the empty Photo Stream project. Everything is working fine at that point. But the next time I open Aperture June and July empty Photo Stream project are created again. I just delete those projects and everything is fine, but it's really annoying to have to delete those projects each and every time I open Aperture. Any suggestions?

Here's some suggestions that may or may not satisfy what you want.
    1. Turn off the automatic photo stream import setting in Aperture's preferences. Import the new photos manually from the photo stream to your yearly project. This should stop Aperture from automatically creating those projects.
    2. Instead of creating a single yearly project to copy to, create a yearly folder and place all the photo stream projects inside the folder. When you select the folder in the library pane you will see all images for the year that are in the enclosed projects. If you collapse the folder it will act just like your yearly project when selected.
    - Did you know? - You can rename the automatically created photo stream projects to anything you desire. Aperture will remember that they are the photo stream projects regardless of the name.
    3. Place all the empty photo stream projects in a single folder and collapse the folder structure. That way you'll only need to see a single entry for those unwanted projects that keep coming back after deleting them.
    4. Delete the photos from the photo stream for that month that have already been imported so Aperture doesn't find anything in the photo stream for that particular month. (I'm not sure about this one so if you try it please leave feedback on the results)
Everyone's workflow can be slightly different so I'm sure there could be reasons why none of my suggestions will be acceptable for you. But I hope at least one of them is.

  • How do I prevent Photostream from creating empty projects?

With photostream on, it creates a project labelled "Nov 2011 Photo Stream" that is empty.  I don't remember creating this project, but I can't swear that I didn't. I delete the project, but everytime I reopen Aperture, it is recreated.  If I turn photostream off within Aperture, this behavior stops.  Turn photostream back on in Aperture, the zombie project comes back.
    How to stop this?

But why does it keep coming back? I understand if the current month is recreated again, but we are in January 2013 and I have Aug, Nov and Dec 2012 that keep reappearing, even though I've already moved the photos to other projects and deleted them.
I can only assume at this point its a bug, but do you have any other ideas on kiling it without having to disable the auto import?

  • How do I delete Photo Stream from Win XP PC

I have turned off Photo Steam on one of my 2 iPads, and both iphones, and should only have 30 pics in Photo Stream from the 1st iPad. However, when I look at photo stream on Apple TV, I have all of the photos that were ever in photo stream (hundreds). I have reset my iCloud photo stream online to empty, but I can't get rid of all those phoptos that I don't want. I can't install iCloud control panel, as I only have an XP, and I don't find the photos in the C dive/Users.
Where would I find the photos?

  • Controlling image order in photo stream

I'd like to understand how iPhoto/iCloud controls the order of images in the Photo Stream.  And specifically why does it seem to automatically reorder my images.
Today I loaded of images into iPhoto from the last two weeks of travel.  The images came from several cameras with different file name sequences and clocks not all in sync.  I created an album with a few hundred and ordered them for continuity but not chronologically.  I then copied all the photos from the album to my Photo Stream, which was empty, and enabled streaming.  After a few minutes of sync, the images appeared on my iPhone, in my desired order.  Perfect.
Several hours later I noticed that the image order had changed on my iPhone.  I went back to my laptop and found that the image order in iPhoto's Photo Stream had also changed.  (I think something like this happened before with MobileMe and I was able to rearrange images using a browser to access the MobileMe Gallery directly no way to do this with iCloud.)  I'd like to fix the order so that I can give a slideshow.
I'm using iPhoto '11 version 9.3 on MacOS version 10.7.4.  I'm guessing this has something to do with file names or image chronology but a definitive answer would be appreciated.  Thanks.

It sounds as though you are using the "set date and time" option instead of the "batch change" option. The set date and time option does indeed add the same amount of time to each photo as you set in the options.
The batch change option allows you to set the time for the first photo in your selection and then add incremental periods of time according to your choosing to each supplemental photo.
Note; you must place all the photos in the order you want them and then select them all before applying the batch change option.

  • Aperture 3.2.3 displays only 1000 pictures in photo stream

I updated the software to 3.2.2 then to 3.2.3 and performed repair of the database but Aperture continues to display only 1000 pictures in photostream

That's not quite true: on the Mac or PC, Photo Stream is supposed to store every image ever uploaded to the Photo Stream. At least on my Mac, Aperture creates a dedicated Photo Stream project for each month and downloads the pictures from the Photo Stream to the respective project.
Exactly - that is the confusion:  These projects are part of the Aperture Library imported from the Photo Stream, and only are created if you activate auto import. They are not part of the Photo Stream.
The Photo Stream itself is synchronized with the iCloud Storage and shows a snapshot of the most recent 1000 pictures.

  • No photos showing in Photos...Photo Stream, but they are showing elsewhere

There is some kind of bug that is preventing my iPad 2 from showing photos in Photos>Photo Stream. I know the photos are there because they are showing in Settings>Brightness & Wallpaper>Wallpaper>Photo Stream.
I have tried soft reset, hard reset, "Reset All Settings", log out/log in of iCloud, "Reset Photo Stream, etc. I have the latest iOS5 update and all the latest updates on my iMac/iPhoto.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Has any one (Apple?) found a solution to this this problem yet? We have the same problem. We have two iPads, the original iPad and iPad 2. On the original iPad the Photo Stream folder in Photos displays all photos in Photo Stream. On the iPad 2 the Photo Stream folder is empty. However, on the iPad 2 all the photos in Photo Stream are available in every other app that uses photos such as iPhoto, Pages, PS Express, etc., etc. The only difference on the iPad 2 is that the Mail is set up for the iPad 2 user with a different Apple ID (the original iPad is set up for one Apple ID for iCloud and Mail).
This problem has been with us ever since Photo Stream came on line it is about time a fix was issued by Apple.

  • What happened to Photo Stream?

After updating to ios8 the photo stream and camera roll albums are gone. I opened iCloud on my computer and it says the photo stream folder is empty (I backed up to iCloud and my computer before I updated). Many photos are visible from the collections area but this is inconvenient. Where is the photo stream and camera roll app?

This is not helpful.. What I am asking is.. Why is the photo stream and camera roll album removed from the album page? I have no way to access my old photos other than through the Photos tab which has them grouped by location and date. Also, I cannot access my photo stream photos on my computer.
