Photo Stream Events and Organization

I have been organizing my iPhoto library and after getting my iPhone I am having some trouble understanding Photo Stream. I take pictures with my iPhone and I see them show up in events in iPhoto (such as Oct 2011 Photo Stream). Are these pictures only apart of my Photo Stream or are they copied to my computer? I only ask because I know that Photo Stream has a limit, and when I reach that limit will these photos get deleted? Thanks for any replies.

These photos you are seeing in the events did come from photostream.  But, they were uploaded to your Mac so they will not be deleted.  The photostream folder, though, is temporary, and eventually those will be deleted.

  • IPhoto not creating monthly Photo Stream Events

Up until last month, all photos that were brought into iPhoto via Photo Stream were being added to a (seemingly) automatically created monthly event of Photo Stream images.  It seems to have stopped doing this and I was wondering if there was a way to reinitiate this.
I think what may have caused this to happen was that I renamed one of these monthly events (Apr 2012 Photo Stream) to something generic like "Spring" and added additional (non Photo Stream pictures) to it.  Now, all new Photo Stream photos are dumped into this "Spring" event and I can't get iPhoto to create a new May 2012 Photo Stream event and dump all new photos imported into Photo Stream into it.
I've tried renaming "Spring" to Apr 2012 Photo Stream and adding a "May 2012 Photo Stream" but to no avail.  It keeps wanting to add photos automatically to what I believe was the original "Apr 2012 Photo Stream" that has since been changed.
    Any thoughts/suggestions?  Thanks.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it doesn't and you are able to download successfully into the new library then your existing library needs repairs: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost and converted to albums. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

    mlvov,
I did as you said and went to the icloud control panel on my Windows 8 Laptop to be sure I was looking at the correct folder for my photo stream.  All my "shared" albulms pushed to my Laptop and are up-to-date with the exception of the "photostream" album. If I create a "shared stream album" and place photo's in it on the phone; I can see the photos on my laptop. I dont get it. I had a iphone 4s and had zero isues and now with my new nifty iPhone 5s it doesent work.
What am I not doing correctly.
    Thanks,

    Try deleting the old backup.
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the device name and on the resulting screen, scroll down and tap on Delete Backup.

Try the following on your MBP:
Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • HT201317 I had my photo stream on and my icloud all set up, i just had the screen replaced and they somehow lost all the photos off my phone, but why wont the photo's reload back on to my iphone now that im connected to wifi again, where are all my photos

I had my photo stream on and my icloud all set up, i just had the screen replaced and they somehow lost all the photos off my phone, but why wont the photo's reload back on to my iphone now that im connected to wifi again, where are all my photos???

When photos are added to the photo stream album on a device (either due to a new photo having been taken or having been synced from another device using the stream) they remain in the album.  However, the syncing process involves copying the photos to the photo stream server where they are kept for a maximum of 30 days, up to 1000 photos.  If a device is reset or the stream is turned off or turned back on again (or in your case, the device was repaired), the photos that were on the device's photo stream album are gone and the only ones to appear are those that are currently on the servers (recall the 30 day limit).
If some of your photos are older than 30 days, then they are no longer stored on the cloud and hence are not synced down to the iphone.
Recall, photo stream is just a syncing service, it is not designed as a storage service for photos.  Always sync photos to a computer for archiving.

To my knowledge, pictures in photo stream stay there untill there is more than 1000 of them, then after that the oldest ones are removed from photo stream.  If your photos have synced to your devices via photo stream or manual syncing they will be there until you elect to delete them.

  • Photo Stream, iPhoto and events

Photo stream is not creating new "events" when it downloads photos.  Instead, it has been putting new photos in an old event (same event every time). This started with the most recent iPhoto upgrade. Is there any way to fix this?

That's how it works. Otherwise you could have a thousand new Events every month.
You can move photos between Events, you can Merge Events, you can Rename them and sort them in various ways.

  • How do I organize my photos into events and then move from my mac to my Ipad

New to mac.  Have moved 3000 pictures to Iphoto.  How do I organize into events and then download those events to my ipad?

Have a look at the tutorials here
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/
Essentailly, your photos are broken into Events automtically. You sync with your iPad via iTunes.

  • Can I just delete the "month year Photo Stream" events?

Unfortunately, I had tried out Photostream a little while ago.
It wreaked pretty much havok, as far as I can remember, so now I have only these settings in iPhoto '11 (9.2.3):
"Enable Photo Stream" is on, "Automatic Import" is off, and "Automatic Upload" is on.
This works fairly well for me.
    HOWEVER, I have these "events" in the Events view in iPhoto called "Month Year Photo Stream";
they induce a lot of "clutter" in my Events view.
So my question is: how can I get rid of these "events"?
(I did google a lot, to no avail.)
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Gabriel.

Move the photos from them to other Events and they will disappear.

  • If i turn camera roll off and leave photo stream on and back up to the cloud will all of my photos be back dup on my mac?

If i use icloud to back up my ios devices but turn camera roll off will all of my photos on my ios devices be saved on my mac? they appear to be in iphotos on the mac currently? I want to turn camera roll off from the back up as it is quite large, 19GB.

They will if you have iPhoto '11 9.2.2 or higher and have Automatic Import checked in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream (iCloud).  If you do, your photo stream photos are automatically imported to your iPhoto events.
You can check by opening iPhoto, selecting photo stream (iCloud) on the left panel, then Control-clicking on you photo stream photos.  If the pop-up says "Show in Library", they have been successfully imported to your iPhoto library (Events).
Edit: You can then use Time Machine to back up your iPhoto library.

  • Photo Stream Sharing and Apple IDs?

In order to share a Photo Stream so that it automatically keeps friends and family updated, the person invited to the stream must have an Apple product as well as an Apple ID related e-mail address.
Most Apple IDs are the same as Apple e-mail addresses. However, do I need their actual Apple ID primary e-mail, or will Photo Sharing accept any Apple ID associated e-mail?
According to this article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HE68 I should be able to associate multiple e-mail addresses with my Apple ID after I have verified a primary e-mail address, and then theoretically use any of them to invite that person to a photo stream.
Anybody know if this is the case?
Unfortunately, you cannot add one of your own aliases or alternate e-mail addresses to a shared stream, so I have no way to test this ...

My Apple ID and iCloud account email are, for some reason, different -- somehow, iCloud still has a @me.com email address listed as my account email, whereas the rest of Apple services correctly shows the primary email for my Apple ID.
Perhaps this is why, but I can't receive any Photo Stream invitations sent to my Apple ID / primary email.  I only see the invites when they are sent to the old @me.com address listed under iCloud, or to the @icloud.com address that was automatically assigned when me.com transitioned to icloud.com.
Can anyone suggest a way I can fix this situation?  Hopefully I should be able to change the email address associated with my icloud.com account to match my Apple ID primary email, but I can't figure out a way to do this.

  • Photo Stream gone and useless junk.

Less of a question and more of a statement that I shouldn't have to make.  I have been a loyal iPhone consumer since 2008, late to the party, but I started with the first model. Have had every model besides the 4s and 5c. Apple had two real things going for them, Itunes and the photo stream that backed up to Icloud. I had pictures from 2011 that downloaded to my phone after EVERY ios update. Now, you drop random junk albums (U2) into our cloud and take away the photo stream that we had grown so accustomed to using. It was great the way it was, this is utter BS. I shouldn't have to nearly give myself a heart attack, thinking that the pictures of my daughters birth and videos were eliminated. Yes, I have them on the computer and a flash drive as well, but I am saying a WARNING would have been a decent move. Why "fix" something that isn't broken.
Today, you lost me as a customer. I canceled my 6 plus and went with the LG G3. You choose not to listen to the customer base about personalization and customization and instead opt for what works well for you. Goodbye Apple.

We are iPhone users just like you.
You are not addressing Apple here at all.

  • How to quickly compare photos in events and albums?

    Hi there,
Was wondering - I have a ton of photos from several years in my iphoto events/general photos, of which the good ones are arranged neatly into iphoto albums.
Problem is, I want to clean up my iphotos and get rid of all the extra photos that aren't very good and didn't make it into an album. In other words, if the photo was worth keeping, it's already in an album, so I just want to delete everything from my events that's not in an album. However, is there any easy way to go through the events and find out which photos are already in an album so that I can delete them if they aren't? I understand that if I delete photos from events, it will also delete it from the album, so that makes it really annoying and tricky.
It would take so, so long to go through every single photo and flip back and forth between events and albums to see which ones are in albums and which ones aren't. From what I can tell (unless I'm wrong), I can't even open two windows of iphoto so I can compare side by side.
If anyone knows a solution, I would be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Tracy

    File -> New Smart Album
Album -> Is not -> Any
    will find them for you.
Option-command-delete will move them to the trash
    Empty the iPhoto trash.
Empty the System trash and they are gone.
One tip: delete in batches of about 100 or so. Deleting more at a time can cause problems.
