Photo stream, how do I delete globally ?

Hi, I love the idea of Photo Stream, taking photos on my iPhone and they almost immediately appear on my MacBookPro and the wifes iPad, i love it.
But what i cant do with Photo Stream is to DELETE Photos across the board, it seems to me that to remove Photos from each device i have to do it three times, once on each device !!!
Why is that please, unless i am doing something wrong ?
Is there perhaps a MASTER Photo Stream somewhere, 'cause i havent found it yet !
And is there any truth in the rumour that once you get 1,000 photos in Photo Stream the oldest ones get deleted ?.
And what is the official way to BACK UP Photo Stream to save the Photos before they get deleted by the 1,000 limit ?
Tim

I cannot EDIT the above post anymore, so i have to tell you all, that i have now read the instructions, all about Photo Stream.
So i have NOW found the easy way to Backup my Photo Stream, simply by using my MBP, create a folder in finder, goto iPhoto/iCloud, select ALL and Export to the folder just created in Finder. easy peasy.
The instructions also say that Delete a photo stream photo on one device and it IS deleted automatically on all other devices.
So realistically the above Questions are all a load of old TOSH. sorry for wasting your time if you read all of this.

  • TS3988 I rcently had to replace my iphone and i lost my pictures that was in photo stream how can i retreive them?

I recently had to replace my iphone 4s and i lost all of my picture that was stored in photo stream how can I retreive them?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Any photos in photostream in the cloud will be returned to the new device when you log into your account and enable photostream, the photos in photostream in the cloud may not mirror the photos in the photostream album on your old phone.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • If I have photo stream on, can I delete my photos on camera roll and still have the photos?

I Need more room on my phone. I have a lot of photos and I have photo stream on. if I delete all my photos in camera roll, will I still be able to keep the photos in photo stream? My phone is not backed up to a computer, and I don't want to risk losing the photos.

Check out this discussion >  If i delete pictures from my camera roll on my iPhone will they be deleted from my iCloud also?

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

You can delete the empty one by dragging it to the trash ( test everything before emptying the trash)
Merging libraries requires iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  it is the only current solution to merging libraries

  • HT4236 hello , when i want to add a folder of photo and I select then sync that folder in itune, there will be 2 folder in my iphon :1-in name of photo library 2-in name of photo library . how i can delete photo library folder from my iphone ?

hello , i want to add a folder of photo to my iphon from my comp. i select that folder in itune and sync with my iphone . but i have 2 folder in my iphone .
1-in name of the folder 2-in name of photo library.how i can delete photo library from my iphone but i still have my photo folder?

You can't delete the Photo Library. The iPhone stores photos the same way iPhoto does on a Mac. All photos are synced to your Photo Library. The various albums/folders merely contain pointers to the actual photos which are in your Photo Library, they are not duplicates.

  • Just got a new ipad air and followed set up. have got a load of somebody elses photos! How do i delete these?

Just got a new ipad air. Followed set up instructions, but have a lot of somebody elses photos. How do I delete them please?

If its a NEW iPad, there should be nothing on it.
If you have photos from someone else, then its either a second hand iPad or possibly a Demo unit.
In which case you should return it as you may run into activation lock on a used iPad, or restrictions placed on Demo units you may not be able to bypass.
Whoever sold you this, did not sell you a new iPad.

I have photos from my computer saved on my Iphone and I can't delete them from the app photos. How can I delete them?

You'll have to deselect the photos in the photo pane in iTunes on your computer and then sync the phone again, this will delete photos that have not been taken with the phone but synced from the computer.

  • Hi i want to ask you that i had made my back up on icloud but i cant check my photos stream how do i check this?

hi i want to ask you that i had made my back up on icloud but i cant check my photos stream how do i check this?

Photo stream photos can only be viewed on an iOS device or computer, they cannot be viewed at iCloud.com, if that's what you're trying to do.

  • HT204022 i have several copies of my photos on my ipad under photos not photo stream    There is no delete button when I tap the duplicate photos.  How do I delete these pleas?

I have 4 and 5 copies of my photos under photos on my ipad.  I do not have a delete button to delete them.  Also, my icloud is upto date but my new photos are no longer streamimg to my photo stream.

Before deleting anything be sure they are actually duplicate photos.  If you create an album on your phone, then add photos to it from your camera roll, the photos in the album are not duplicates; they only contain links to the actual photos in camera roll.  (Albums are like music playlists; they don't contain the actual photo but just a link to it so that you can look at a subset of your photos.)  Thus, if you delete the photo from the camera roll it will be deleted from all albums that may have contained it (just as a song would be deleted from any playlist that contained it if you deleted the song from your music library).
Similarly, photos synced to your iPad from your computer are all contained in the photo library.  Just like albums created on your phone, any albums synced to your phone will only contain links to the actual photos in the photo library.  If you delete the photo from the photo library, it will be deleted from any albums that may contain it as well.  This video may help explain this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60MevRF53ck&feature=channel&list=UL.
All that said, you can delete photos from the camera roll by either opening them individually and tapping the trash can icon, or by opening the camera roll in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, tapping all the photos you want to delete, then tapping the Delete button at the bottom.   To delete photos synced to your iPad from your computer you have to delete them by connecting your iPad to your computer, going to the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings, unchecking the photos you no longer want on your iPad, then syncing.  Photos in photo stream are deleted by opening the photo, then tapping the trash can icon.

  • How do I add photos in photo stream.how do I

How do I add photos to photos team?

You can't.  (We can't have people going around “deleting things”.)
You can do a reset.  So it's all or nothing.
But once 1,000 pics are stored in Photo Stream, every time you take a new pic, the oldest one will be deleted.

  • I lost my photo stream how do I get it back

MY photo stream is gone how do i get it back

If you mean you lost your Photo Stream photos, that is normal. They delete after 30 days and you can't get them back.
If you mean you can't find Photo Stream on your iPad, Go to Settings>Photos and Camera and turn "My Photo Stream" on.

I am creating a photo collage in PSE 7. I put 3 photos with no theme (background white) and adjusted the size, rotated them...etc. I also used the cookie cutter tool to give the photos a shape. A gray frame still remains after "cookie cutting" the pictures. How do I remove the gray frame?

  • I cannot now get my iPad photos to move, to make comments.  My iPad is now 6 months old and I fear I may have too many photos there, how do I delete?

I have a large amount of photos in my photo section, principally streams and I cannot now move them or make comments; neither can I watch videos that have been posted .. it,s stuck... Also how do I delete some of these photos, and is overloading the cause of my obstruction?

A good route would be to attach a USB drive to the macbook.  You can use the drive to assemble a copy of all of your music from your various devices.  iTunes on the macbook can be used to create a new library, located on the USB drive, into which you can import all of your music.
    Two major benefits:
    1.  From here you can run iTunes Match across your entire music collection; and
    2.  You will have created a full local backup of all of your music on the USB drive.
Once complete you will be able to access the music from any iDevice capable of running iTunes Match,  Do remember as you add music it is important to maintain a local backup in order to keep your music safe.
