Photo Stream not in use but hogging space on New iPad

I do not use iCloud and have always had it turned off on all my devices.
On my iPad (which is the 'new' iPad running 6.0) for some time I have had a lot of 'other' and can identify from the usage panel that there is 1.1 Gb showing in my photo stream.  I have noticed that if I add photos the other shrinks slightly, but if I remove a photo folder, other grows.  Today I have completely removed all photos yet still seeing 1.1 Gb in photo stream.
I followed the advice to remove items from photo stream, just in case, but obviously as I genuinely do not have anything in there did not get any option to delete stuff.  My iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 4th Gen both show nothing in photo stream.
I've tried restoring the iPad, still returns to having 2.4 Gb of other with 1.1 Gb of that being the photo stream.  As it is only a 16 Gb iPad I could do with the storage back.
This exceptional 'other' was there in the previous OS so it's not something caused by the latest update.  I've tried all the suggestions for sorting out 'other' but nothing seems to work.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be grateful for the advice.

I'm guessing, of course, that this photostream is what is using the other, open to suggestions otherwise.

I had the same thing happen to me.  It's a bug in iPhoto 9.4.2.
The first time you run iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, it "updates the iPhoto library".  This sometimes tickles a bug where iTunes can see all your iPhoto albums, but iTunes thinks they are empty.  Since iTunes thinks all your albums are empty, it dutifully deletes any photos from your synced iOS devices.
It's easy to tell if this is the problem you are seeing.  Open iTunes and go to the photos sync panel for one of your iOS devices.  If you have multiple albums checked, but iTunes shows a total of 0 photos, then you have the problem.
I spent an hour with an Apple Genius.  he couldn't find any mention of this problem in their internal support system.  His recomendation was to reinstall the operating the system.  I suspect that this won't solve it.
The only solution I have found is to restore iPhoto 9.4.1 and the corresponding iPhoto library from your backups.
I would refrain from upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2 until Apple has a fix for this issue.

  • HT4906 There are random photos in my photo stream on the Mac, but they are not on my iphone. I can't delete these photos?

I have random photos that appeared in photo stream on the Mac, but not on my iphone. And I cannot delete these. Help?!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • Photo Stream not working on Windows in a Virtual Machine, but not on my Mac

    Hi there,
since yesterday I tried to connect to Photo Stream with my Mac, but I can't. It works fine in my Windows 7 Virtual Machine with the iCloud software, it works fine on my iPhone 4S. The iCloud System Status suggests that all services work just fine.
However, as soon as I try to activate Photo Stream in iPhoto 9.2 (626) (App Store version, confirmed latest version) or Aperture 3.2 (non App Store version, confirmed latest version), I am presented with the message, which roughly translates to "Activating Photostream... iPhoto couldn't connect to Photostream", with an "Abort" button as the only option.
All other iCloud features work perfectly fine for me. Any suggestiosn?
    Thanks!

confirm that it is activated in icloud preference pane ( System-Settings ) like this :

  • Why do my photo stream not sync between iPhone 4S & iPad?  Some pics do but not all

Why does the photo stream not sync between iPhone 4S & iPad?  Some pics do, some don't.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
        1.    Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
        2.    Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
        3.    Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Photo Stream & Camera Roll using double memory?

I have a 16gb new iPad.  I've noticed that since taking some home movies using the video camera (total of about 25 minutes) my available internal storage has dropped quite a bit along with my availble iCloud storage.  I also noticed that all photos and videos are duplicated between the Photo Steam and Camera Roll.  I'm not sure I've really figured out the difference between these two and whether I need them both. If I understand correctly, Photo Stream is there to work with iCloud to backup and also push stuff to other devices (but that feature has a 30day/1,000 photo limit)?  On the other hand, the Camera Roll is permanent (although it also backs up to iCloud, depending on your settings)?  I also understand that Photo Stream data doesn't eat into the free 5gb on iCloud, but Camera Roll does.
    So, my questions are:
    1. With respect to the internal storage on the iPad itself, am I losing twice as much memory for each photo/video that is in my Cameral Roll and also on the Photo Stream?
    2. It doesn't seem to make sense that I have iCloud backing up my Camera Roll (which eats iCloud storage) if the same stuff is backed up on Photo Stream (without using iCloud storage) - I assume the only reason to continue allowing it to back up the Camera Roll is that the Photo Stream backup has limits? In other words, if I don't backup the Camera Roll and my iPad craps out on me, then my iCloud restore won't inlcude any photos or videos taken more than 30 days ago?

Photos are included with the Photo Stream, not videos.
Photo Stream is temporary so if you have an iPhone and iPad, photos captured on one device will be available on the other device automatically and vice-versa. Your Photo Stream can also be accessed on your computer so you can add photos to the stream on your computer making the newly added photos available on each device without having to sync, and for saving photos in the Photo Stream locally on your computer's hard drive without needing to import the photos from the Camera Roll with your computer.
Photos in the Photo Stream as well as in the Camera Roll are taking up double the storage space.
Photo Stream is not a backup.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.

  • HT201317 Photo stream not sending photos to pc

I am having issues with photo stream not operating. Apple support helped me correct this once, but it has happened again. I use PCtools internet security. Does anyone have ths issue or a solution? Photos are in my photo stream in the iphone, but do not get pushed to my pc.

I have the same problem. Iphone and Ipad both can sync photos between them.
But not icloud 2.0 application on my windows 7 pc.
Whenever I open icloud app, it have photo stream option unchecked.
I check it back, nothing happens. It is unchecked again upon next start or application opening.
I already tried rebooting pc and logout/login from icloud application.
Clicking Parameters in photo stream does not open anything.

  • My Photo Stream not syncing older photos

Hi, am using Aperture 3.4.3 on OS X 10.8.2 but had the same issue below when using iPhoto...
Have Photo Stream enabled within settings but when I use Aperture, not all of my photos are being synchronised.
Simply, my iPhone shows I have 231 photos in 'My Photo Stream' but through Aperture is shows just 129 - it is the older photos that aren't sync'd.
I have 3 shared streams which are working fine, it's just the default one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Pete.

The Photo Stream is not really a method to sync photos - it is a method to buffer the most recent photos for import, and it may look differently on all devices, depending on when the photo stream has been enabled on the device. On each device it will show the most recently added 1000 photos, and photos older than a month may not show at all.
If you want the older photos to appear in the stream on all devices, add them again to to stream.

  • Photo stream not downloading / syncing to PCs consistently

I am having trouble downloading / syncing photos to my PC via Photo Stream.  This used to work great, but now it appears that new photos are not either downloading at all or haphazardly to my two PCs (one running Windows 7 and the other Windows 8).
I have 2 iPhones using the same iCloud account.  If I take a picture with either of those phones, the picture shows up on the other phone in the photo stream as expected.  However it is not downloading to my PCs consistently any more.  I have tried multiple troubleshooting steps including turning photo streaming on and off from the iCloud control panel and also completely uninstalling and reinstalling iCloud from the PCs.  Still have the same results.  Older pictures are downloaded, but newer ones are not being reflected.
This is getting very frustrating.  Any suggestions on how to fix?
    Thank you.

I am having the same problem. It seemed to be working fine until I upgraded to ios8.1 using my new Iphone6 now only some of the photos on my photostream are uploading to my PC.

I want to start using my Apple TV to stream my pics.
On my iPhone 4 and on my iPad (Gen4) the photo stream works really well but when I switch my Apple TV on it only pulls the very last pic I took through.
I have updated the Apple TV and all the iOS devises are on the most up to date iOS.
Don't understand why I only pulls one picture and not all the others.
    Pls help

    mlvov,
I did as you said and went to the icloud control panel on my Windows 8 Laptop to be sure I was looking at the correct folder for my photo stream.  All my "shared" albulms pushed to my Laptop and are up-to-date with the exception of the "photostream" album. If I create a "shared stream album" and place photo's in it on the phone; I can see the photos on my laptop. I dont get it. I had a iphone 4s and had zero isues and now with my new nifty iPhone 5s it doesent work.
What am I not doing correctly.
    Thanks,
