Photo stream questions, sharing, etc.

Shared photo stream questions
Camera Roll (CR), Photo Stream (PS)
If I create a shared PS and share it with a friend, is this temporary like the main PS (most recent 1000 images)?
For example, if I put one photo in a shared PS and then take 1000 new photos (but I don't add it to the shared PS), presumably it will disappear from my main PS, but will the original photo disappear from the shared PS, too?
I noticed that each month I have a new monthly event titled, for example, "August photo stream", etc. Are these temporary, too? If I take 1000 photos in September, will the August PS event start to lose images, or will this only occur in the main PS section?
Apple's web site says "iCloud stores new photos for 30 days, so you have plenty of time to connect your iOS device to Wi-Fi and make sure you always have your most recent shots handy." What does this mean? If I take a photo on iPhone it's permanently in CR (until I sync with iTunes on OS X and then iPhoto offers to remove them from CR), but they're also in PS, which is temporary, right? If so, as long as CR is permanent, how big an issue is the 30 day rule?
Here's where I'm (further) confused...
On iPad, my PS section (the tab on bottom) only has 30, relatively recent photos. Each photo was taken with iPhone.
However, on iPhone, my PS section has 547 images. Some of these were taken as screen shots from iPad (even though they're not on iPad's PS??) Some of the images were "Save As... "  image files from OS X, some were photos imported to desktop iPhoto from a camera. Many of the images were taken years ago. On desktop iPhoto, I have over 3000 images, but the images on iPhone's PS do not appear to be the most recent 1000 images imported to iPhoto.
So why did iPad's screen shots disappear from iPads PS yet appear on iPhone's PS?
Why aren't the two iOS device's PS sections the same?
Is this confusing to everyone, or am I just dense?
Thanks!

You are most likely using the same apple id under settings>iCloud. If you just want to stop the photo sharing you can open settings>iCloud and turn off photostream. If you want to keep using photostream and still not share you need to set up an alternate apple id to use under settings>icloud

  • How do I consolidate all this at this point: Icloud Drive, Itunes Match, Local iTunes Library, Local iPhoto, Local Aperture, Photo stream, Familly sharing, sharing on iOS, music sharing on iOS, music sharing on mac etc.

I am trying to grasp all the possibilities for consolidating my stuff and my family's stuff from multiple devices and multiple accounts from multiple sources  but I cant.
I have been reading many instructions and FAQ regarding iCloud Drive, iCloud Sharing, iTunes Match, Familly Sharing, file size limitations on iCloud Drive, app sharing on iOS, Backup vs Sync vs cloud sharing,  storing iWork documents on iCloud drive, storing iTunes library on iCloud Drive, storing iPhoto library on iCloud Drive, storing Aperture library on the iCloud, the Photos app on iOS with iCloud and many others.... but I feel like I need a systems admin course from apple to manage all of it.
This is what I and my family currently have:
Hardware: Multiple iPhones, Multiple Macs, Apple TV (with hard drive), Multiple iPads.
Operating systems: Everything is upgraded to the latest iOS and Yosemite.
    Libraries:
    1)  Multiple iTunes Libraries locally stored on Macs and IPhones with lossless CD music and iTunes purchased music. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared iTunes library across ALL devices that contains our Lossless music and purchased music. so that it can be played across ALL   devices. With the ability to have private music for each individual (Not shared).
    b) Purchase new music and add it to the family share or purchase music and make it private (Not shared).
    2)  Multiple iPhoto Libraries macs (With photo stream from iPhones) and ONE Aperture Library on my mac. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared photo library that every one can deposit to and view.
    b) Store individual iPhoto libraries on iCloud Drive(s)? So that everyone can have their own library and edit it across THEIR devices.
    c) Store and use my Aperture Library on iCloud Drive?
    Other documents:
iWork files, PDFs etc. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared area (on iCloud Drive i suppose) where we can share documents.
    b) Sync private documents across ALL individuals devices (Available locally and on iCloud).
    c) Store private documents (One instance)  on iCloud drive and make them available on ALL individuals devices.
    d) Backup of local documents?
    Apps:
    iOS apps:
    a) Share purchased apps?
    b) Not share private apps.
    Storage:
What do I purchase to accomplish the above:
    a) iCloud storage for everyone?
    b) iTunes Match for everyone?
    c) All of the above?
    Conclusion:
It would be great for Apple to explain all this with all the options in one concise document instead of hunting down individual documents and sections all over the place.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hey there!
You and I are data soulmates. I have been having this trouble for a while and have yet to get my head around it. Our problem is that we've cycled through multiple macs and the "home" or "host" for all the stuff that's now been moved or moving to the Cloud is very scattered. It drives me crazy... almost to the point where I'm thinking about starting a brand-new iCloud account and beginning from scratch.
If you have any experiences or recommendations you could share about your strategy, I would love to hear it.

  • Apple TV can't find my computer/ipad or itunes libraries of either but does find photo stream. (home sharing support all done, no fix) any idea's?

    apple tv 3, software: 5.2
    Using an Ipad2 , ios 6.1.2
can't seem to share in itunes?

Your Apple TV won't be able to access your iPad library. The reason that it will connect to Photo Stream is because it is pulling it from your iCloud account, not by connecting to your computer. Here are some things to consider (without knowing more about your issue):
    1. Are the Apple TV & computer with iTunes connected to the same network?
    2. Is iTunes open on the computer?
    3. Do you have Home Sharing setup on the computer and the Apple TV with the same account?

  • Photo streaming question

I'm not sure where this question ought to be posted, so I apologize if its the wrong section.
In anycase, I wish to know how to erase a photo on photo streaming.
    Thanks!

To get the photos on another devices you either have to share them or both have to be using the same iCloud account.
What do you think share means?

  • Can't load photos into iCloud photo stream for sharing (from iMac)

In iPhoto, I select an event, hit "Share >> iCloud",  then "add new stream", then get the dialog box, then enter a friend's email, then hit "share". then get message "xx photos were posted". But when I look at my iCloud there is only an empty data stream (correct title but zero photos).

Where are you looking at the stream? On the same mac or on an iOS device?  Do you see the shared photos in the iCloud section in the iPhoto library? Is your Wi-Fi working correctly?
Can it be, that you have hit one of the sharing limits?

If you have exceeded a limit, you may have to wait, before the photos will upload.

  • Photo Stream: are shared album pics on my ipad hard drive???

My son has shared many pics in albums with ms using Photo Stream.
Are these pics on my iPads hard drive?? Taking up space?
    thx

It's been a while since your post, but if you haven't gotten the issue fixed, you could try a restore from within itunes on your computer. This will replace the OS on the ipad and since the photo app is included in that, it may fix your problem.

  • Photo Stream Videos-Shared folders

Why can't I view a video on iCloud.com that is in a shared photo stream?

Just tried it here from and am getting the same message. I imagine that the applications will need to be updated for them to be able to make use of this new capability.
Hopefully Apple will have something to say on this in the next few days.

We are in for some more surprises. Shared Photo Streams are now working both ways.
When you share your stream with somebody, make sure the person will not flood your Photo Stream with embarrasing photos.
I remember - in Mobile Me times, I once allowed some students to upload their photos of our expedition to a shared photo album on my Mobile Me site. Within an hour a student had exhausted the quota by dumping the complete contents of the SD card into my Mobile Me album.
From the IOS ipad user guide:  http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
Share streams of photos and videos with people you choose. Friends you’ve chosen who have an iCloud account—and iOS 6 or later or OS X Mountain Lion or later—can join your stream, view the photos you add, and leave comments. If they have iOS 7, they can add their own photos and videos to the stream. You can also publish your stream to a website for anyone to view.
Note, that the manual only says "Friends ..... view photos", not videos.
Sharing videos requires IOS 7, I think. Viewing photos and videos should work with Mt. Lion, however.
We'll see, when the next iPhoto/Aperture update will be released

  • Specific Photo Stream questions

I was wondering if there was any way I could make the pictures I take on my iphone automatically go into a shared photo stream, in addition to the one it already goes into automatically that sync's with all my devices. Any help would great! Thanks!

Not directly from the iPhone, to my knowledge. But perhaps someone on the iPhoto forum can help you.

  • Photo stream questions

Everyone in my family has an iPhone five, however, when I take a picture, it ends up in not only my camera roll, but the photo stream that, for some reason my sister has access to on her device, and vice versa. We both find this bothersome, and are wondering how to fix it. Additionally, I was wondering if anybody knew what happens when you delete a photo from your camera roll... Is it automatically deleted from the photo stream? What about when you delete a photo from photo stream?

You are most likely using the same apple id under settings>iCloud. If you just want to stop the photo sharing you can open settings>iCloud and turn off photostream. If you want to keep using photostream and still not share you need to set up an alternate apple id to use under settings>icloud

  • Photo Stream question!

    hello! guys
Is that Photo Stream works just wifi connection?
i think take a picture on my iphone and my photo will be streaming through my cellular data connection to my home located ipad. but i'm going on wifi coverage places my phono immediatly streamed, not works through cellular data!
    tnx

On an iOS device, new photos you take will be automatically uploaded to your Photo Stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. Note: Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections."

  • ICloud/iPhone 4S Photo Stream question

How do I delete individual photos in Photo Stream album which were taken by my iPhone 4S (with iCloud switched on)?

You can't delete individual photos from the Stream with today's iOS version (rumor is that the next verson will allow this - we'll see).  You have to log into iCloud.com and in there disable Photo Stream.  Then remove Photo stream from each device (go to settings), then turn iCloud's photo stream again, as well as each device.

  • Stupid photo stream question, but..

all my iPhone photo's appeared on my desk tops iPhoto via photo stream until 2nd Sept. Then it all stopped. What happened? what should I be using to ensure my iPhone photo's are backed up to my desktop?
    Thanks
    Wayno

What happened right before September 2?
Did you update any software? Which version of iPhoto are you using? Which MacOS X version?
Which iOS version are you using on your iPhone?
To ensure, that photos are downloaded from your iPhone to your mac, connect it to a USB port, and then open iPhoto. Import all new photos and videos. Videos will not download via My Photo Stream anyway.
Check the settings for My Photo Stream on all devices as described in this document:
    iCloud: My Photo Stream troubleshooting
The photo stream will only upload, if the iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, the Camera.app has been closed and is not running in the background, and the iPhone is properly charged.

  • Cannot create another shared photo stream - 50 shared photo stream limit?

Hi - I'm getting this error message when trying to create a new photo stream in Aperture:
I've deleted a few photo streams and I'm still getting the error.
Also, when I look at the Photo Stream Limits Apple posted I don't see any mention of this limitation.  What am I missing?

I can confirm the problem: The same message, as soon as I try to add stream no. 51.
But for me it works to delete one of the streams. I could replace it by a new stream without problems.
    I tried this with MacOS X 10.8.4 and 10.8.5, Aperture 3.4.5.
The limit seems to be 50 streams.
I've deleted a few photo streams and I'm still getting the error.
Have you waited for the deletion to be synced with iCloud? Or you may have hit another limit. For me the replacing of Photo streams is working well, but the limit of 50 streams is disappointing.
