Photo Stream seems useless

I am trying to send some photos top family and friends via photo stream :-(
It does not recognize my family email "groups" in Apple Contacts
Does not create a URL for me to send to others
Does not create a URL for me to post to family websites, blogs, facebook or twitter
If I have to type in all my family email addresses everytime I send family photos, photo stream is "useless"
Oh and also everytime I want to add a photo to a photo stream, I have to do the entire process over again!
• create new photo stream
• type in all the email addresses again
Either I am missing something our photo stream is way over hyped
Thx

The Photo Stream doesn't accept groups from the Contacts.  What you can do is create a drafe email with all of those you want to send to routinely and save it. Then select and copy the email address in the draft email and paste in the Photo Stream address field.

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • HT201317 How do I get photos from my I phone onto my I pad? Photo stream seems to be transferring from my I pad to phone but not the other way round.

How do I get photos from my I phone onto my I pad? Photo stream works I pad to I phone but not the other way round?

Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Photos Streamed Seem to be Originals

When I send a photo to my AppleTV it seems to show the unmodified original photo, not the one I have adjust colors on. Not a big deal, but a bit annoying. Also, I wish once you started to airplay it would stay in that mode instead of me always having to restart airplay for every slideshow.
But a HUGE step in the right direction!

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • I have over 1400 pictures in my Flikr photo stream - seems only 500 cycle thru

Is anyone aware of a limit of 500 picutres for the photo slideshow in Apple TV? I have over 1400 pictures in my Flikr photostream but the Flikr photostream on my apple tv says there are only 500 picutres available for the slideshow. Is there a limit or is there a way for all 1400 of my pictures to cycle through?

  • HT201077 Shared Photo Streams do not upload full sized photos!

Oh boy, so it seems that Apple's "optimized for your device" policy with photos has reared its ugly head again (PLEASE, just give us an option for optimizing the size or leaving it the original size like you do for compressing songs to 128kps on our devices!!!!)!  The addition of Shared Photo Streams seemed a godsend to me, as prior to iOS 6, my wife's iPhone was stuck in this iCloud ID ghetto, where her device's main account was mine so that we shared the same Photo Stream.  This way, when I went into Aperture on the Mac to process and import photos to our home library, all of our mobile pictures were in one place.  This came with the consequence that the other "main" iCloud features, such as (inexplicably) Safari syncing, were unusable to her as they were from my personal settings.  So once shared Photo Streams came about, I thought "Perfect!  Now I can just share all of my photos to her iCloud ID, and then all of our combined pictures will show up in Aperture!"  The problem is that, when I looked at the pictures on the Mac from the shared photo stream, they only were available at the "optimized" 3 megapixel resolution for iPhone, not the original 8 megapixel pictures are the photos from the main iCloud ID ones are.  This is a huge deal for two reasons, 1.  I can't import and process these pictures for saving permanently they're more than HALF the original resolution, 2. Anyone that I share photos to, friends, family, who want to maybe save those to their computer for printing and whatnot, are ALSO stuck with a halfbaked low resolution file!
I did have the a-ha idea, that perhaps if I shared photos from Aperture on my mac to my wife's Photo Stream, perhaps it would then share the full resolution photo as that's what Aperture gets from iCloud's servers.  Alas, no, still the shared photo stream only gets the compromised file.  There has GOT to be a way for the full resolution pics to be shared, otherwise the service is nearly useless to me!  As far as I knew, shared photostreams just link to the original files, so it's not like this will take up any more space on Apple's servers.  If someone has a solution, let me know!
The only other solution is to allow the use of more than one Photostream account on a Mac with Aperture.  I feel that this is a no-brainer, and a little silly.  Either you provide family style iCloud accounts for uses like Photo Stream, or you accept that every iOS user in a family will have their own Photo Stream.  This means that they need to be able to be accessed on the same family computer.

I have this same issue except with iPhoto.  We each have our own computers and I thought the shared photostream would allow us to each have all the photos, but they aren't full sized.

  • ICloud photo stream for PC still doesn't work

I just read this 16-page comment thread about how photos merging won't work with iCloud Control Panel 3 on PCs:  My Photo Stream is empty with iCloud Control Panel 3.0
The thread goes back about nine months without a solution.  I have the same problem and need to find a fix.
We have about 15 iPads for customer use at our business.  We occasionally upload photos to these devices and customers are allowed free use of the iPads.  The devices are fixed in place and connected to a power supply and WiFi.  My computer is a Windows 7 64-bit running iCloud Control Panel 3.1 on a separate WiFi network on property.  The problem is photo downloading and uploading only works intermittently.  Sometimes new photos populate in my PC's photo stream but usually they don't.  The same is true when I try to push photos from my computer onto all the iPads using the upload folder.  It usually works but not always.
This might be a minor annoyance for an Apple customer with one iPad but it creates lots of unnecessary work for a business because I have to use Dropbox to upload photos and have someone check the iPads for inappropriate photos daily.
The photo stream seems to work well between the iPads.  It just seems the iPads don't play well with iCloud on PCs.  I'm surprised this type of problem has persisted so long at Apple.

  • Downloading from photo stream not limited to wifi

Downloading from photo stream seemed to me to be very active while I was not on a wifi connection.  Due to other people tossing a ton of photos in their shared streams I burned a ton of data and then had to turn off the phone when I realized what was going on.
Have others experienced this? Is there a way to stop it?
I loved the addition of shared streams but this is probably a feature killer for me.

    1. Yes. It's 30 days or 1k pics, whichever comes first.
    2. I'm not sure about your phone or iPad. I would check on the forum for one of those devices or here

    3. No it doesn't do video.

  • HT204022 When a photo that is included in photo stream is deleted from cameraroll it should ask whether we want to delete it from photostream too, shouldn't it? How do I delete a bad photo from camera roll and photo stream? I have to delete it twice???

80% percent of photos we take are bad photos, we delete them later when reviewing them. Now the photos are in both camerroll and photostrean. When we delete them from the camera roll they do not get deleted from photo stream, when I delete them from photo stream they do not get deleted from camera roll.
I want to keep good photos only in both photo stream and camera roll. How do I do it? Delete them twice?? What a waste of time.
When a photo is deleted from camera roll it should ask whether we want to delete it from photo stream too. Otherwise photo stream is useless.I remove bad photos from camera roll but they all stay in the photo stream ...

    Hi JM,
Even 20 days later, the answer is the same.....you have to delete photos from them individually - they are kept in separate places, so you have to delete them from both if you don't want them. However, photostream will, eventually, "delete" the bad photos, since it only keeps up to 1000, and then starts overlaying the oldest ones....
    Sorry....

  • Photo stream sharing in iPhoto 9.3.2

Maybe I'm just confused ... But isn't Mountain Lion and this iPhoto update supposed to support Photo Stream Sharing? Photo Stream seems to work the same as it always has, i.e. just as a 30 day distribution channel to all of my devices.
Anybody know how to enable sharing the photo stream from within iPhoto? It doesn't seem particularly intuive assuming e feature is enabled. Is it a setting in Mountain Lion perhaps?

    http://www.apple.com/icloud/coming-soon/
The iCloud coming soon link under the Shared Photo Streams mentions "Friends using iCloud on an iOS 6 device or a Mac running Mountain Lion get the photos delivered immediately in the Photos app or iPhoto."
Fingers crossed this is referring to that sharded photo streams will automatically load into Photos...

  • Photo Stream not syncing with Windows 7

Photo stream seems to be having trouble syncing with certain Windows machines. Mine is having the same problem. I was having trouble getting photos from the stream to my Windows 7 machine so I tried to uninstall and reinstall the iCloud control panel 2.0. Seemed to fix the problem until next reboot then it stopped syncing again.
Have seen numerous posts about this but no fix or attention. Since Apple support is pretty much non-existant with this topic, figured I would add another post about the problem in hopes someone at Apple would see this and look into it.

First make sure iCloud and Photo Stream are installed on your PC. Connect the iPad (or iPhone) to your PC with the USB cable and start iTunes on your PC. Once your iPad/iPhone shows up under "Devices" in the sidebar (which you may have to enable), click it. Then click "Photos" at the top of the iTunes screen on your PC. Check the "Sync Photos from" box, and then under that, click "Selected folders." (Ignore the pulldown menu to the right of "Sync Photos from" -- the important thing is to tick "Selected folders.")  A pane should open up below that with a list of folders including "Photo Stream." Choose that and then at the bottom of the screen click Sync. This worked for my Windows 7 box.

  • Photo Stream displays grey jpg icon on iPad

I have iMac, MBA, iPhone (4), and iPad (1). Photo Stream seems to be working as advertized, except on my iPad. When looking on iPad, in the Photo Stream tab, I see grey icons with  a camera image, and "JPG".
If I turn off photo stream, and turn it back on, it loads the photos down. I'm not sure what happens to return it to the grey icons.
    Any suggestions?

    I had the same issue,
Mine was with sync'ed photos,  not Photo Stream,
I opened the iPhoto Library Package and removed the iPod Photo Cache.    Then resync'ed and everything started working great!

  • HT4858 Aperture / iPhoto shared photo streams

But when I try to upload say 1500 photos to shared photostream from aperture, it just gives an error saying 1000 is max.  It doesn't upload any at all. I got the impression from this article that it would upload the first 1000 and then continue uploading as allowed but in fact it gives the error and does not upload anything.
Trying it in iPhoto it claims I have some files that are not jpeg, raw or png.  I tried smart albums but iPhoto 11 doesn't appear to have a way to filter file types.
All of this to try to make my Apple TV 3 5.1.1 screensaver show more than 200 of my 45000 photos.

Yes that may be true but it is not relevant to my stated goal.   I am acutely aware of the limitations Apple TV has on HomeShare - it seems to limit to about 200 pictures regardless of how many you share.  I understand it has hard disk limitations but it should in fact be able to stream them over the network.  It doesn't and I think that is a bug not a feature request.
However in using regular Photo Stream the ATV3 does seem to stream or at least cycle through all 1000 photos.
The shared photo stream seemed like a workaround, since I have over 45,000 photos, and my simple goal is to have them randomly displayed on my tv.   I don't need all 45000 to be there simultaneously or cumulatively: 1000 per day even is more than enough, and pushing those out of the queue for the next 1000 would be no problem in fact helpful.
It's just that the article seems to indicate that once reaching a limit iPhoto or Aperture will resume uploading once the time limit has passed.  That does not seem to be the case and so now it seems the workaround will have to involve a script perhaps though I don't know if there is a feature like that in either of the programs.
And I appreciate the reply Winston, but I would appreciate solutions rather than roadblocks from your expertise. Thanks.

  • Uploading Raw images to photo stream?

How do I upload raw images to photo stream in aperture? I can upload jpeg's, but my raw pictures don't go into photo stream when I add them.

Yes the photo stream seems to be a work in progress.
It's unclear exactly how it is suppose to work and reading the doc's doesn't help much, I've found contradictory information in a number of Apple's docs on the photo stream.
Some talk about a size limit to the stream, some mention that images are removed from the stream after 30 days (which isn't true at least in my case) then there is that one that talks about the number of uploads per hour but states that the information is provisional.
To be safe if there is an image in the stream that is no where else and I want to ensure its safety I will always copy it out of the stream and onto one of my systems.
Hopefully one day they will clarify all this.

  • My iPad will not sync photo stream from iPhone

My iPad ios7 will not sync my photo stream. It only received 1/4 of my photos. My iPhone ios6 has the correct photo stream. Tried Turing off photo stream on iPad, afraid to turn off photo stream on iPhone as I may lose data. I know the photo stream limit is 1000 so I keep it at 900. iPad is fully updated. iPhone all apps are fully updated. Same Apple ID is signed in across 2 devices for iCloud. Both are backed up on same wifi. Loading iTunes just to back up photo stream seems silly but maybe forced to.     Thank you.

    Check this out - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4486.
How long are My Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud?
The photos you upload to My Photo Stream are stored in iCloud for 30 days to give your devices plenty of time to connect and download them.
