Photo stream & the master photo library

I've just set up photo stream on my macbook pro, iPhone, iPad etc. Now i'm going overseas & wont be turning on my mac book for >30 days. Will all the photos from photostream still make it to the master library (even if they're no longer in photostream when I get back)?

Will all the photos from photostream still make it to the master library (even if they're no longer in photostream when I get back)?
Yes. All you have to do is turn Photo Stream back on.

• Is it possible to synch and stream from the same iTunes library?

We have two Powerbooks in the house, each one contains our own individual iTunes library. Powerbook 1 is synched to ATV. Powerbook 2 just streams to ATV. Because each Powerbook can obviously be moved to different parts of the house, we want to be able to stream each iTunes library to ATV (in the living room) AND play the same library out of the Powerbook in a different room.
When using our iPhone Remote to select the iTunes library on Powerbook 2 (the 'streamer'), an "Airplay" section appears at the bottom of the "Settings" screen which allows the output device to be selected as the Powerbook and/or ATV - meaning that the same music can be played through both devices in different parts of the house - great!
However, the same "Airplay" section does not appear at the bottom of the "Settings" screen when the iTunes library on Powerbook 1 (the 'syncher') is selected - and the music just plays through the Powerbook 1, not ATV - not great!
Is this somehow because it's not possible to stream the Powerbook 1 library to ATV because it has been synched? It feels as though there must be a simple way around it?

you can sync multiple macs to one ATV, one at a time. use the Finder and set up your first itunes library. make a folder and give it a name. then drag that itunes library file into that folder. launch itunes and make another library synced to the same ATV. Make a folder give it a name. The only issue is remembering to drag out the proper library, don't change the library name because it is not a one to one relationship.
I never tried multiple libraries at the same time to one ATV but I am doing one Mac to two ATVs, each with their own library and synced.
Helps me keep track of my library and then my wife's.

• Editing the master page of My Site - Changes not visible to all users

Hi!
I opened the mysite.mydomain.com site on my SP designer and made some changes in a master page located in the Master Pages library. I checked in the changes and now I can see them when I open the site on my browser.
But only when I use the account that made the changes using the designer.
How can I propagate these changes to be visible to all my users?
Publishing features in are enabled already.
Thanks!

No! Duh!
I forgot about that part! Actually I don't see this option in the designer. I had to go to the browser to do it. Anyway, now it works! Thanks!

• Photo Stream permanent master library Windows 8 PC

Up until recently I have been able to take pictures with an iOS device and have it sync to my photostream, then to a folder on my Windows PC. Once in my Windows folder the photo would stay there forever. Deleting the photo from iOS Photo Stream would not delete the photo from my Windows PC. Deleting the photo from my Windows PC would not delete the photo from iOS Photo Stream.
Very recently the Photo Stream folder on my Windows PC has been deleting copies as I delete them from my iOS Photo Stream. On the apple website it says:
"Master photo library. On your Mac or PC.
Keeping a complete set of your photos on your Mac is as simple as turning on Photo Stream in iPhoto or Aperture. Every new photo you take appears in a Photo Stream album just as it does on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. But since your Mac has more storage than your iOS device, it automatically imports every picture from your Photo Stream into your photo library so you can edit, delete, and share the ones you want. Want to get the photos you’ve taken on your point-and-shoot or DSLR camera into your Photo Stream to view on all your other devices? The photos you import to your library from a camera or SD card are automatically uploaded to your Photo Stream. If you have a PC, you can auto-import and upload pictures, too. Just turn on Photo Stream, grab a camera, and start shooting."
How can I set up Photo Stream to PERMANENTLY save every photo taken with my iOS devices on my Windows PC FOREVER AUTOMATICALLY like it used to last week?
I want to be able to delete photos from Photo Stream to free up space on my iOS device and know that the photos won't delete from my Windows PC. I could do this literally last week.
Any way to do this?

Fixed it, had to delete the folder where the My Photo Stream was.  I just created a backup of it and then deleted it, let iCloud re populate the folders and it came back.

• Editing some photos on a MacBook, I get them on the Photo Stream on my iMac. Having set "automatically import Photo Stream to Library" in preferences, I still don't get them in the iMac photo library. How can I achieve this?

I'm editing my photos on a MacBook Air and then photostreaming. On my iMac, I get the photos in Photo Stream, where they cannot be changed. I've set the Photo Stream preferences to "automatically import to Library" - but that does not happen. How can I get these new photos into my "old" iMac photo library?

The monthly events "Feb2014" will show you all photos that have been imported from "My Photo STream", if you have enabled "Automatic Import" in the "Preferences > iCloud" tab.
The albums you are seeing under "iCloud" are the "Shared Photo Streams" and "My Photo Stream". To import from your "Shared Streams" drag the photos frommthe Shared Streams album to the Projects in the library panel.

• How do you delete photos from the photo library and photo stream?

I have photos that were sent to me by email that I accidently saved to my phone. I would like to delelte the photos but there is no "trash" in the Photo Stream or Photo Library.  I cannot figure how to delete the photos.

You cannot delete photos from photo library. Photo library is just a huge view of every photo on your iPhone. It is not meant to be deleted unless you do it from iPhoto. However, the only way to delete photo library off your iPhone is to also delete the photos you synced. Think of photo library as you would with your iTunes library: it is just a giant list view of all your music (photos). But then you have playlists (albums) which organize the photos. Also, the photos are not duplicates. When you view a photo from an album, it is the same photo as in your photo library. It's just a shortcut. It takes up no space. However, photos saved from an email should be saved in your camera roll and can be deleted. As for photostream; if you go into it, and hit edit, you can select photos to be deledted. To delete the whole photostream, go to the list of photostreams and hit the blue arrow on the right of the name and you should see an option to delete the photostream. Hope this helped! Good luck.

• HT1229 How can you transfer the  photo library from  an iphone to a mac.

I have a photo library on my iphone which was synced to the iphone from my pc.  Now I have a mac laptop and I cannot figure out how to get the photo library onto my mac from the phone.  The photo stream has transferred over but none of my other albums.

If the photos are in your Camera Roll on the iPhone connect the iPhone to your Mac, launch iPhoto and import directly into your library on the Mac.

• The difference between Camera Roll and Photo Library

I am a bit confused.  I have, on my iPhone, pictures in 3 places: Camera Roll, Photo Library, and Photo Stream.  I am not sure why iPhone make these distinctions but I want them all to end up in one place: my iMac central photo library.
I  only have 3 devices, an iPhone an iPad and a desktop iMac.  I manually sync my photos to my computer from my iPhone, and do not really worry that all photos get to all devices immediately.  My question is this: How do I make sure ALL the photos from my iPhohe end up in my 'main' photo library on my iMac? Without causing duplicates.   It seems like some of the iPhone photo storage locations sync and some do not; occasionally I get a ton of duplicates.  It is confusing and I was hoping someone could help me streamline it. I know the iCloud is trying to make things easier, but sometimes it does not seem that way
Thanks!

• I have the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) turned on. The photos from my iPhone do get uploaded to the iCloud. The photos are then downloaded to my wife's iPhone (we share the iCloud account). How do I keep the photos from downloading to my wife's iPhone

I do not want all the photos from my iPhone downloading to my wife's iPhone from iCloud? We share an iCloud account. How can I prevent the download to my wife's iPhone from iCloud. .The "Upload to My Photo Stream" is turned off on my iPhone. . I am running 8.1.3.
I have a related question. In order to same space on my iPhone is there a way to upload the photos to the iCloud and then delete them from my iPhone.

The way to keep the photos from downloading to your wife's phone would be for her to go to Settings > iCloud > Photos > and turn off iCloud Photo Library. If that isn't an option, the other option would be for her to have her own Apple ID ( and possibly explore the new family sharing options https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ )
Regarding the "related question" see the quotes below from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album.
If you want to reduce the space used by photos on your phone, rather than deleting them see the following:
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

• Is there a way to really empty the Photo Library on an iPad?

I wanted to delete a couple hundred photos in the Photo Library on my iPad 3.
In the Photos app on the iPad, I used the "tap-to-select" method and trashed some of the photos, but this was way too slow, so I connected the iPad to my iMac via USB cable, and from within iTunes synced the iPad Photos to an empty folder. This cleared out the Camera Roll. (The "Photo Database" it created in the empty folder contains 892 bytes). The app window now says "No Photos or Videos."
In Settings/General/Usage/Photos & Camera/, the three menu items now show:
Camera Roll - 0 bytes
Photo Library - 642 MB
Photo Stream - 0 bytes
There, doing a "swipe-to-the-left" on the Photo Library bar brings up a red DELETE button. Hitting the button has no effect. It just takes me back to the previous menu (Photos & Camera) which also still shows 642 MB.
I have opened Preview.app on the iMac and looked in the iPad. There is nothing to delete.
Also, I opened Image Capture.app and had a look in the iPad. There is nothing to delete.
The Photos & Camera menu still indicates 642 MB are used.
Thanks for any suggestions.

sberman: My iMac is running iTunes 11.0.2 already. As well, the Photos tab in the iTunes window shows that "Sync Photos from" is un-checked. And in the box to the right of it is the greyed-out empty folder that I previously synced to in order to remove photos from the Camera Roll.
Ralph9430: I did a reset (Home + Sleep) earlier when I was trying everything I could think of. I have also re-synced a couple of times. No luck.
Thanks anyway. I was hoping someone out there would tell me they've experienced the same problems (non-functioning DELETE button, and persistent data in Photo Library), even if they haven't found a solution. Then I could assume it's a iOS 6 bug. All I can think of to do next is a full iPad restore.

• I have 2 photo albums on my iPhone that i want to delete. One is called "Photo Library" the other is called "iPhonePics". I cannot delete any of the photos in either album. How do I delete the photos and/or the albums?

I have 2 photo albums on my iPhone that i want to delete. One is called "Photo Library" the other is called "iPhonePics". I cannot delete any of the photos in either album. How do I delete the photos and/or the albums?

You can uncheck multiple songs by selecting all the songs you want to uncheck, then right-click and choose "uncheck selection".  Also, make sure that you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings or the sync process will ignore your selections.
You can remove all the photos from your camera roll using Preview on your Mac.  Connect your phone to your Mac, open Preview, go to File>Import from iPhone.  When your photos appear in Preview, select the photos you want to delete, then click on the icon at the bottom showing the red circle with the diagonal line through it (see image below), then click Delete.
To remove photos from the Photo Stream album on your phone you'll have to either reset Photo Stream (deleting all the photos from iCloud) or turn off Photo Stream on your phone.

• Hi. I have a MacBook Pro, my wife has a MacBook Air - is it possible to share a photo library and still be able for both of us to access it when not on the same network?

For example, she often works away and we both obviously would like access to the photo library while she is away.
Upon her return I would then need to sync the library with any new photos either of us has taken. We also both have iPhones with separate apple id's so would need to sync both to a single library if possible?

There is not yet a reliable way to keep an Photo library on a network volume, that you can access remotely and share between multiple users. The syncing over the network will corrupt the libraries, and merging two iPhoto libraries requires third party tools, like iPhoto Library Manager.
With Aperture instead of iPhoto you could merge libraries, but still not have the library on a server for remote access.
It would be easier, if both of you kept your own copies of the iPhoto library on your macs and used the shared photo streams to add any new photos taken by each other.

• I get this alert when opening iPhoto.  "The photo "4ea09cdb.jpg" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." When I select "find photo" library is greyed out.

I have to either hit cancel about 100 times to allow me to get into iphoto.  I think this may have to do with photos I have edited over time where the original no longer exists but only the .edited.jpg...
OSX 10.8.2
iPhoto 9.4.2

these do not matchup - they can not all be correct
Yes, I found the Masters file and they all appear to be there...
Some of the files in question say "The alias “AtlantisPhoto_01_2.jpg” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found."  when I try to access in the master file.
It was checked when I went into preferences already.
It sounds like you have unchecked the copy option sometime and imported photos while it was unchecked that no longer have the originals available on the same path as they were when imported
We only know what you tell us and answers can only be based on the information you provide
And whjile you are looking inside the iPhoto library be very careful that you do not make any changes of any sort - there are no user servicable parts in it and any changes can destroy your library
