Photo Stream with iPhoto and multiple devices...

It is possible to disable the upload of photos to photostream from selected devices like an iPhone?  I like the idea of photoshare, but don't like that it automatically uploads all of my phone's pics to my iPhoto on my shared Mac at home.

Turn PhotoStream off on the device you want to exclude

  • Shared photo streams in iPhoto and Apple TV

Why is this proving so difficult for Apple to get right?
All I want to do is create private albums that I can share with family and have them sync back to my Mac so that all I need to do is organise my photos ONCE (i.e. on iPhone or iPad) and see these albums in iPhoto where they are also backed up locally.
I've created a shared photo stream album, shared it with my wife... she can see it on her phone... great.
I look in my iPhoto and there is no sign whatsoever that I've ever created a shared album. Just the main photo stream mess as usual.
Also, I go to my Apple TV and the same thing, just the same "every photo ever" mess.
I've recently taken to using Vimeo because this provides exactly what I need for home video. Create edited video in iMovie for iPad or Mac, then upload it to Vimeo, and share it only with family. I can then view them back on Mac, Apple TV, iPad etc.

Apple has just updated the second and third-generation Apple TV software to version 5.1 (build 10A406e). The biggest changes include support for Shared Photo Streams, the ability to switch between iTunes accounts and to send audio content from Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices.
If you still think like updating to 5.1, here are the direct download links:
    AppleTV2,1_5.1_10A406e_Restore.ipsw
    AppleTV3,1_5.1_10A406e_Restore.ipsw
And here is the full list of new features in Apple TV 5.1:
Shared Photo Streams — Accept invitations for Shared Photo Streams, browse photos and comments, and receive notifications of new content.
AirPlay — Send audio content from Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices (including AirPort Express and other Apple TVs). Also includes the ability to require an onscreen code to use AirPlay with your Apple TV.
iTunes account switching — Save multiple iTunes accounts and switch quickly between them.
Trailers — Search movie trailers. In the United States, see show times for local theaters.
Screen savers — New Cascade, Shrinking Tiles, and Sliding Panels screen savers.
Main menu— Reorder icons on the second page by holding down the select button on the remote.
Subtitles — SDH support for the deaf and hard-of-hearing as well as improvements to viewing and selecting subtitles.
Network configuration — Support for setting up advanced network options using configuration profiles.
Stability and performance — Includes general performance and stability improvements.

  • Why is photo stream not synching across multiple devices?

I am using an iPad, iMac, iPhone and MacBook Pro - all with Photo Stream enabled on the same account - yet the photos in my individual photo streams are no identical across all. There are a handful of photos that in the stream that I can find on all of my devices, but at the same time, each device also has a number (sometimes quite a few) that are only on that particular device, despite it appearing on that device's photo stream.  How can I sync them so that they all have the same photos? I thought that was the purpose of photo stream...

Photostream is streaming, not syncing service. So every device that you have will have photos from the time that photostream was enabled on that device. As long as photostream folder exists in your iphoto, you can force pictures into it. Just move or copy those pictures in photostream folder in iphoto on your Macs. They will get moved into icloud and downloaded to other devices. Remember that photostream is not designed to hold your pictures forever, just 30 days or 1000 pictures. Once 30 days is over it still stays on your computers, but is not in the cloud anymore.

  • Totally confused with iCloud and multiple devices

Ok, So we have two each of the iPods, iPads and now iPhones.  Do we all share the same iCloud? Can we share apps through the cloud? How do I switch my iPad to the new one I got to give this one to my son. I am so new to all this apple stuff. Only been a few months and I'm still really confused.  What all goes to the iCloud? How do we see what's in the iCloud?  I really the the idiots instructions I think to figure this all out?  Can anyone help me?  How can I print from the iPad?  Everything I see says iOS 10 something?  I believe I only have 6 something?

Do we all share the same iCloud?
icloud is designed so that only one user uses it to keep his/her devices in sync.  When multiple users use the same icloud account, they will then be sharing the same email address, contacts, calendars, notes, etc.  Usually that is not what two people want to do.
Can we share apps through the cloud?
You buy apps from the itunes store, that's different than icloud, and multiple users can use the same itunes account so that they can share apps, music, etc.  For a family, everyone usually uses the same Apple ID for an itunes account and individual Apple IDs for their icloud accounts.
How do I switch my iPad to the new one I got to give this one to my son.
What do you mean by "switch.. ipad to the new one"?
What all goes to the iCloud?
Backups of iOS devices, Apple services that you turn on to share data (settings>icloud; on an iOS device), third party apps that use icloud to sync their data between devices, email, photo stream, and more.
How do we see what's in the iCloud?
Icloud is designed primarily for syncing data between the devices of the user - like getting all computers and devices to have the same contacts or calendars.  When you set up syncing (settings>icloud, turn on the services you want synced between your devices), some of that data will also be available to a computer's browser when you log into icloud.com.  Otherwise you view the data using the associated app, like the Calendar app to see events.  Other things that may be on icloud, like backups cannot be seen.  Also iCloud does not provide a photo gallary that others can view in a browser.
How can I print from the iPad?
For that you need an "airprint" compatible printer. See,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
You can also print to a printer that's connected to a computer, but that computer needs special software, like Printopia for macs.
Everything I see says iOS 10 something?  I believe I only have 6 something?
There is no "10", version 6 is the current one.  You are probably thinking of OSX, whose versions are 10.x.y.  That's for macs, not iOS devices.

  • Photo Stream with iPhoto '11

How does Photo Stream work with iPhoto? I have my iPhone set to up load photos to Photo Stream. Is it technically in the cloud?
I want to disable the option of my iPhone for now. I am worried if I do so, will it delete the photos and if so, from where?
Currently, the photos in the Photo Stream do appear in the iPhoto app on my iMac but under Photo Stream tab. How do I imported the images from the Photo Stream to my iPhoto library?

Select the photos in the iCloud section of iPhoto and right click - select import to library
For the future you can set the iCloud preference in the  iPhoto preferences to automatically import new photos form PS - of you can manually import as above
Once the photo is imported to iphoto it is not deleted from the Mac when you delete from PS - it will be the the MMMYYYY Photo Stream event

  • Import video from photo stream to iPhoto library

Hello, I'm trying to import a video from a friend's photo stream ( which I've subscribed to ) into iPhoto on my MacBook Pro.   The video doesn't show up in iPhoto shared , but the photo stream does as well as photos in the stream.   I've checked other photo streams with videos and I am able to import those.
The particular video I'm after is about 2 minutes long, was taken on a friends iPhone 4.   I'm able to see the video by subscribing my iPhone 5 to the photo stream, so I don't understand why it's not showing up in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro.
Should I have my friend re-send the video to her photo stream ?   Any other ideas ?
    MacOS 10.9.3
    iPhoto 9.5

    Thank you Winston!

  • I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream.

I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream?

You can create a Quicktime movie slideshow of the book's pages and share that. Here's how to get your book into an iPhoto slideshow and then export as a Quicktime video:
1 - While viewing the book type Command+P to start the print process.
2  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
Note:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
3 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
4 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. Immediately select all of the photos in the new album and sequentially renumber them as "Page  " using the Batch Change ➙ Title to Text with the option to add a sequential number to each title.  This is to let you put the pages back in the correct order in the event they get sorted incorrectly.
Now you can proceed as follows: create the slideshow in iPhoto and export it out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large (480p with iPhoto 9),

i have 2 apple ids and one is from years ago when icloud wasnt a thought but now somehow it became my primary apple id and i cant photo stream with the apple id i use. Even if im signed into my old one the photo stream doesnt automatically go to my mac. Im not exactly technology savy but id love to figure this out.

I have also noticed the same "problem".  I do not fully understand the impact of using the same ID on multiple computers and devices if I want to keep them all in sync.

  • Should Photo Stream in iPhoto show photos taken with iPhone?

Migrated all of my accounts to iCloud and was looking forward to using Photo Stream to share photos between our iPhones and Mac.  I have it turned on with all three devices, yet none of the photos published to Photo Stream show up on other devices.  Meaning: the Photo Stream photo on my iPhone does not show up in the Photo Stream on my Mac.  The photos in the Photo Stream on my Mac are not showing up on my iPhone.  Is there something additional I need to do to get this to work?

Try going into the iPhoto preferences and iPhone settings pane and turn off PhotoStream and then turn it back on again. For iPhoto I'd uncheck each of the checkboxes close the preferences, open the preferences and check them all again. Maybe even close iPhoto between unchecking and checking again.
As for the iPhone maybe reboot it also.

  • Strange behaviour of iPad Photos app/My Photo Stream with iOS 8.1 and Yosemite

My requirement is surely simple and commonplace, yet is proving impossible to achieve thanks to Apple's weird design of the Photos app and the way My Photo Stream works.  I'm very technically savvy, but I'm quite prepared to admit I'm being stupid if someone can explain what I'm doing wrong!  I have an iPad Air running iOS 8.1 and a MacBook Pro Retina with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).  I've enabled iCloud Drive on both.  iPhoto on the Mac is at v9.6.
I have a selection of 109 photos from a recent holiday in a folder on my MacBook, which I would like in a folder on my iPad as a nice way to show them to friends.   iTunes may work but seems so incredibly clunky and old-fashioned I hoped I could do it over the network or via the cloud.  I would use (and often have used) Dropbox, which is reliable and logical but rather tedious as you have to save each photo one by one.
So, with a little research and playing around, I found that I could get them to the iPad using iPhoto on the Mac, with My Photo Stream enabled.  However, it doesn't seem to work.  The photos were all created yesterday so had yesterday's date (I'd removed EXIF data that contained various earlier dates).
I've just done the following test:
I deleted all photos from the iPad (using the Photos app)
On the Mac, I deleted all photos from iPhoto
In iPhoto Preferences on the Mac, I turned on “My photo stream”, with the two sub-options also enabled
I imported the 109 photos into iPhoto
On the iPad, in My Photo Stream, I saw the photos gradually appear over the next few minutes
A  minute or two later, when no more seemed to coming, I found that 103 of the original 109 were in My Photo Stream.  So, strangely, 6 photos were missing
Even stranger, in the “Photos” tab, under “Yesterday” 37 of them could be seen.  If I understand this correctly (which I may not), that means 37 of them had been copied from the My Photo Stream to the iPad itself.  Am I right?  Why only 37?
On the iPad, I added a new Album called Summer 2014
I selected all 103 photos from My Photo Stream to add to the album
In the Summer 2014 album, I briefly see “103 Photos” at the bottom of the album, but this quickly changes to 66 as photos that briefly appeared now disappear, leaving only 66 left in the album
Checking in Photos/Collections/Yesterday, I find there are now 66 photos (rather than 37 as there were earlier) - the same ones that are showing in my Summer 2014 album.
If I attempt to manually add any of the missing photos to the album, nothing happens - the album refuses to allow any more than the 66 it has.
In iPhoto on the Mac, if I click on the SHARED/iCloud entry on the left, I see all 109 photos, which I think means iPhoto has correctly shared them all, so I suspect the problem is with the iPad.
Yesterday, when I was playing with this, the album allowed 68 photos.  I tried deleting one and adding one of the missing photos, but it wouldn't allow this either, so I don't think it's objecting to the number of photos so much as disliking particular ones.
I've got 7.7GB free space on the iPad so I don't think it's a space issue.
Can anyone help?  If it's a bug in iOS, iCloud or OS X, how can I report it, given that I'm out of my 3 months support for both my machines?
    Thank you!

Well done lumacj! This is a good workaround. Forgive me if I offer a simplified version here (this works if original photos are in Photo stream):
    1. In "My photo stream", tap on select at top of screen
    2. Tap on each photo you want to send via WhatsApp (circle with "√" shows for each photo)
    3. Tap on square box with arrow at bottom of screen (Share) - NOT "Add To"
    4. Tap on "Save image(s)"
    5. Check that selected photos now appear on "Camera Roll"
    6. From WhatsApp, send photos as you would have normally

  • I have two different iCloud accounts. I can't sign into photo stream with my personal account and have tried deleting from my iPhone first, then the MacBook Pro. Still won't let me sign in with the personal account. Please help.

I have two different iCloud accounts - business and personal. I can't sign into Photo Stream with my personal account because it says my business account is my primary account. They are separate but equal accounts. I have tried deleting the iCloud account from my iPhone, then my MacBook Pro and signing in again on both devices. The iPhone says that my primary account ismy personal account (which is good) but my MacBook Pro still will not sign into that account so I can use Photo Stream.
Any suggestions? This iCloud stuff is getting annoying.

you have a ps cs4 license for mac and you have some way of finding your serial number.
if yes, download an install the installation file.  if you already have the installation file, what is its name and file extension?  (eg, if it's one file, it should be a dmg file.)

  • We just added a new iPad Air to our family of 4 apple devices and I can not get it to join the automatic Photo Share with the other 3 devices. What have I overlooked in set up?

I added an iPad Air to our family of Apple devices a few weeks back and can not get it to participate in the auto Photo Share with the other 3 devices. My Mac, iPhone and first generation iPad share but the new device does not. ITunes sees all 4 devices but I can not get the new iPad and other 3 to share.
Any ideas what I may have overlooked in setup? Thanks!

    1) You asked "Does she need to reconnect to that itunes/computer and if so what do we need to do to remove this folder of pics from her ipod?" Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    2)
Create a NEW account for using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then on the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores.

Just got new iPad mini and I can only get 140 pictutes in My Photo Stream while in my other devices I have 1000 photos in My Photo Stream.  How do I sync to have all photos in My Photo Stream on this new iPad mini?

    Hi Jose Sam,
It sounds like some of your photos are over 30 days old.
    iCloud: My Photo Stream troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3989
I see different photos in My Photo Stream on each of my devices.
Your device will keep up to 1000 photos, even if they are older than 30 days. Photos older than 30 days are removed from the iCloud server, so all devices may not have the same photos, depending on when you enabled My Photo Stream.
You may want to sync the older photos through iTunes to get them on your new iPad mini.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

Yes you can. In iPhoto create a Album with the photos you want in it. You can drag them from your Events folder. In iTunes with your iPad connected go to Photos by cliking on your iPad. You can then select the album or events you want.
