Photo sync bug with Aperture albums?

Hi, I think I have found a bug with how iTunes syncs photos across to my new (and until my number ports across, useless) iPhone.
If you set it up that only selected Aperture albums are synced, like this;
[ ] album1
[tick] album2
[ ] album3
[tick] album4
then albums 2 and 4 are optimized and copied across.
However, if in Aperture you create a new album (by importing new photos, say) that appears in the list, e.g., between album2 and album3, then the ticks retain their spacial position, not their position relative to the album they are meant to sync;
[ ] album1
[tick] album2
[ ] album_new
[tick] album3
[ ] album4
So now, when you sync, album4 is deleted and album3 is placed on the phone - not what you would expect.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the reply.
That's strange... I am using leopard, with iTunes 7.5 and a brand new UK iPhone (so it has 1.1.2 already on it). It was essentially in 'virgin' state too; I had to return my 1st phone due to a tiny but annoying problem with it. I noticed the this after only a couple of syncs - when the sync was taking a while due to the photo optimizing step.
I will take another look tonight.
Thanks,
Tristan

  • Photo sync problem with Windows Vista?

I did some searching and was wondering if there is a solution to the photo sync problem with Windows Vista. I have gone the route of changing some of my photos to bitmap files but this is was way too much work just to view on ipod. I like to email Apple but could not find a link to do so. As far as I know I have all updates but still the iPod does not sync photos. Is there an update to this that I am missing or am I stuck changing all my photos to .bmp files?
    Thanks,
    Dean.

I checked out the article and not much help, thanks anyway.
Would it make a difference if I purchased Adobe Photo Album or would I still be stuck with changing and saving files to .bmp extensions? I have Adobe Photoshop album starter but still have to change file extensions.
If someone has a solution to this problem I would really be greatfull. I did contact Dell as this is a brand new computer and that was a wash. They did give me a number for Apple but of course I bought the iPod off of ebay and has no warranty on it so unless I pay a fee I'm not calling. It just blows my mind that Microsoft and Apple can't or won't come up with a fix. But I guess when Microsoft wants you to buy the Zune or Apple wants you to buy the overpriced Macintosh why would they waste time on having there products compatible with each other.
    Thanks.

  • My old iPod Photo sync'd with 10.6 but won't with my new iMac running 10.7, I get an error message, am I done?

My old iPod Photo sync'd with 10.6 but won't with my new iMac running 10.7, I get an error message and a message that it could not sync, am I done?

What's the error message say, exactly?  Does the error occur when you sync, or when you just connect it?  Does the iPod appear in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES), or does this error occur before that can happen?
I have an old 4th Gen (color screen) iPod, which should be the same as an "iPod Photo."  It's been sitting idle for a while, but I just connected it to my iMac running Mac OS X 10.7 and iTunes 10.6.1.  I think it's the first time I tried since upgrading to Lion.  It connected and synced fine using USB.

  • Syncing Folders with Aperture 3, How To?

    Hi,
I was wondering how can I keep a file system folder in sync with Aperture library (Both when I add files to the system folder or when I create a new versions in the Aperture library).
I know it is not supported in Aperture. Is there some scripts or a plugin to do this?
I know that Aperture was designed to be the sole Manager for the photo library, but I need this feature. Please let us not turn this discussion into a discussion about managing libraries emoticon - smile
    Any help is appreciated!

Thank you. That is helpful. Where can I get these scripts?
However, matching versions is another matter. There is no file for a version, it's simply an entry in the database. Do you really want to export every version as a jpeg/tiff ?
Sometimes, I would like to export the versions to have them as JPEGs. I know that Aperture was designed to manage versions in an incremental fashion. But sometime, I would like to have this option (For my PS3 to see the files [I know that you can sync your aperture library] or for my wife's Windows laptop to see the files etc...).
Rather defeats the purpose of Aperture.

  • PSE7 Backup/Sync fails with existing album

My PSE7 install is an upgrade from PSE6, so obviously I have a large numnber of albums defined already from what PSE7 considers to be the "first run" of the organizaer.
I've been down this road of trying to sync my content up to PS.COM once before - and it was a disaster.  Had issues on both ends of the deal, so I went back to PSE6 while working with the PS.COM guys (who turned out to be great!) to get the issues with the site straightened out.  I think we're there on the web side, so I'm starting over.  I wiped out everything on the PS.COM side - had a blank account with 40G of space available.
I upgraded (again) to PSE7.  Once 7 was running I created a new album (called Test PScom), enabled backup/sync and put three photos in it.  This all worked fine, and my three photos are now up on the PS.COM site.
However, test two crapped out.  I took an existing album (with about 15 photos in it) and enabled backup/sync for it.  What happend is that the sync agent created the album on the PS.COM site, but none of the photos ever get uploaded.  If I choose the "photos pending sync" view in PSE7, I see all 15 of the items that belong in this album.  They're marked as needing to be sync'd.  However, they never actually get transfered.
    Things I'm pretty sure of:
It's not a permissions / firewall / connectivity problem.  Anything I create that's brand new syncs just fine.
It's not the content of this album.  All 15 photos are JPGs ~1M each
I'm not out of space on the site, and my PS.COM account is (now) in good working order
The sync engine itself hasn't died
I've seen all the suggestions (made some of them myself) about how to "trick" the engine into working.  I'll do it if I have to, but I'm much more interested in getting some onput from Adobe as to what the real problem is here.
Also curious if I'm the only one left with this issue, or if there are others?

    Hi,
Sign out of your account. Stop sync and follow the steps mentioned at the following tech note http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408660.html . Sign in and start sync again. See if it helps .
Also send us your Sync db : Navigate to your catalog location (catalog location can be viewed under Help>System Info)Zip the syncdb folder there and send to [email protected]
    Thanks

  • Syncing iPad with Aperture

When I plug in my iPad I can sync it with the Aperture library that is currently open. Is it possible to sync the iPad with more than one Aperture library? Thanks for your help.

    fcandy,
    No you can not.
I commonly use two Aperture libraries with my iPhone. When I sync the iPhone with my sync selected library open, new and updated photos get synced. When I sync my iPhone with my non-sync selected library open, nothing happens in the sync process.
Though I haven't tried it, I imagine if the sync selected library got changed, it would wipe out the photo content of the sync device before doing a sync.
    Regards,
    Stephen
Note: What I mean by sync selected library is the last Aperture library selected in the synchronization process with a given device. I have a library that I chosen to use in iTunes. That would be my synced selected library. If I do a sync while another library is selected, iTunes does not recognize that any photo synchronization has happened. Though when switching back to the sync selected library, iTunes again updates to reflect information pertinent to that library after the device is unplugged and replugged.

  • Music and Photo Syncing Bugs in IOS7?

I have tried several times to sync my iPod to iTunes but I'm running into two significant issues:
    1) I have 947 songs on the playlist that I sync to the iPod. Comes to about 4.4 GB on my computer. However, when I hit sync, this happens:
Sometimes, a couple minutes after the sync is finished, it slides back to 4.45GB on the computer screen until I hit sync. The iPod still says it is taking 8.4 GB. The second I hit sync, the music bar slides up to 8.4 GB again.
I have tried pulling the music off and re-syncing it, but this still occurs. Removing the music also removed 3 GB of 'other' data which reappeared when the music was re-synced. I also am unable to load any new items onto my iPod because of space constraints, it seems to think the entire 8GB is taken, leaving me with 800 phantom songs/4GB phantom space taken.
This is not occurring with my iPad Mini, which is also synced to the same computer, music library, etc.
    2) The other syncing bug I have is approximately 3,000 phantom-ish pictures. They were synced to my iPod from iPhoto from my previous computer, which then suffered a hard drive failure. The photos are accessible on the iPod, but I can't seem to access them from my new computer, either through iPhoto or Image Capture. They both say there are no pictures on the iPod, even though there are. Anybody know any programs/tips to pull those photos?
Since I still haven't manage to pull the photos from my iPod since the hard drive failure, I am reluctant to wipe the iPod completely because I'd lose them. Any idea what's going on with my iPod? I'm up to date with software (iOS 7.1.2, iTunes 11.4, Mavericks)

To get synced photos off the iPod you need a third-party program. I know TouchCopy and Phone view work but do not know if the free iFunBox works.
    For your other problem:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Size of photo's published with Aperture

Can anyone tell me how I can get photo's published on the web .mac with Aperture at a great format. When I make the format more than 400 the photo's are not good anymore. Please tell me how I can get great photo's at the web.

Im not sure what you mean? Are you talking 400 dpi? If thats what your doing then forget it...images should be 72 dpi for publishing on any RGB electronic media.
You can use photoshop to make your image to the size you want at 72 dpi and then use sharpen so that it looks great on your screen and then it should look great on most other peoples screens as well. (all the other sharpen options are for big images or print media).
Hope this is what you mean? or do you only want to use aperture only?

  • Photo sync issues with iPhone 3GS

My wife is having two problems with photos on the iPhone.
The first problem she is having is some photos that she wants on the iPhone will not sync because "The iPhone cannot display them". The photos are in JPG format, and she has several other JPGs on the iPhone.
Which leads us to the second problem. When she syncs the iPhone with iTunes she gets duplicate photos on the iPhone. Also, they cannot be deleted as there is no trash icon when she browses them.
Her phone is a 1 day old 16 GB 3GS, using a Win XP machine (iTunes 8.2.1.6)
Any help is appreciated as she is very frustrated by this.
    Thanks,
    -Seth

Photos transferred from the computer to the iPhone via the iTunes sync process are selected under the Photos tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. Photos transferred via the iTunes sync process is a one way transfer process only - from the computer to the iPhone, and are removed from the iPhone in the same way - via the iTunes sync process - the same for music and video. Photos transferred to the iPhone via the iTunes sync process cannot be deleted by the iPhone. Photos captured by the iPhone - photos in the iPhone's camera roll can be deleted by the iPhone.
Not sure about the photos that will not transfer problem - I've never had a problem transferring any photos from my Mac, which are all jpeg format.

  • Photo sync bug

When i plug in my ipod (new 30gb video) or my bro's (first gen nano) and click the "sync" check box under the ipod summary-->Photo tab, to choose a photo album to sync, itunes shuts down.
The default is set to photoshop album and i never have a chance to change it cause iTunes shuts down.
The error msg is from microsoft and not iTunes or apple telling me that itunes encountered a problem and needs to shut down, then ask me if i want to send a report.
Has anyone had any trouble syncing photos with iTunes 7.01?
    Thanks

  • Photo Syncing Bug

I just got my touch today - like it very much. However, there seems to be a bug in photo synching.
If I select "Sync photos from:" and choose the Pictures folder, then click on the 'selected folder' button - nothing gets synched. I get a "synching" activity bar with banded pattern - but this continues indefinitely, until I cancel the sync.
If I select a folder and choose all photos (for one folder) it works. If I nest a folder within the Pictures folder, and select the container folder - it works.
So, it seems that the Pictures folder doesn't work for nested synching. Or perhaps if you have a lot of pictures, it takes forever to catalog all of them within each folder. Either way I don't like.
And, no I'm not going to synch with my iTunes library, as I don't put all my content into iTunes.

    George,
I think I figured it out? I synced one folder and the next day wanted to use another folder. It replaced the photos that were already on the Touch.
Here is what worked for me. I created a folder and called it iTouch Photos(don't jump my case). I then drug the different folders of various vacations that I had weeded out and dropped them into the iTouch Photo folder.
Now in the sync window below the buttons, the two folders with the picts are listed. They are in the Touch the same way.
Photo Library is at the top of the menu, and the two other folders are below it.

  • Bug with Smart Albums, Faces & Places.

I have recently got married, and we have got a good few hundred photos added into iPhoto (for a total of a few thousand). And we've spent a good while making sure that everybody is tagged correctly in Faces and all the Places are correct.
My wife has then asked me for all of the photos with her and her grandma. Easy; I create a Smart Album with Match all of the following conditions: Face is "Clair" and Face is "Granny". I end up with a few dozen photos containing both of them.
Then she asks if we can just look at those which have both of them at the wedding reception. So I simply added an extra condition to the smart album of Place is "Reception". But instead of getting a handful of photos -- a subset of the previous album, as expected -- I end up with a few hundred pictures! This modified album is taking all those pictures which are at the correct place, but now have either Clair's or her grandmother's face in them.
Is there something obvious I've overlooked, or is this a genuine bug?
    Thank You,
    Warren Merrifield

I set it to "all", in both cases. If it's set to "any", I get even more results (all the pictures from the venue, regardless of who is is them plus all those with Clair in and all of those with her gran in).

  • ITunes photo-sync results in corrupted album-pictures on iPhone/ iPad

    Hey guys,
after restoring all my iDevices to iOS 7 last fall I've encountered the following problem: when syncing photo-albums from iPhoto to my iPhone/ iPad using iTunes, certain pictures of  an album (or even all of them) end up showing as grey squares with a "JPG"  sign in the middle:
I was hoping  the problem would be gone after installing iOS 7.1, which is why I waited this long before starting a discussion here, but unfortunately it didn't. So here I am, asking you guys for help. Any ideas?
    Best regards,
    Waske
FYI: I'm running OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 with all apps up to date.  All iDevices in question were restored using iTunes 11.1.5 and configured as "new" (no iCloud/ iTunes backup was loaded afterwards)

Are you able to view the photos in that album in iPhoto at full size?

  • Photo sync problems with Vista

I have two iPods which I manage on two different computers.
I manage my 2nd Gen Nano on a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop running Windows XP Home, and manage my 5th Gen Video 30 GB iPod on a Dell Dimension E521 desktop running Windows Vista Home Premium. The same photos are on both computers.
The problems is that When I attempt to sync photos to the video ipod on the Vista system, I get an error "some photos weren't copied to Therese's iPod because they cannot be displayed on the iPod". I've deleted the iPod photo cache folder and tried the sync again, but still get the error.
Since both computers are networked, I thought I would try and sync the photos from the laptop over the network as opposed to the ones on the desktop. In iTunes on the desktop system, I selected the photos from the laptop and they sync'd to the the video iPod.
What I am trying to figue out is, Why the photo's from the laptop over the network would sync and not the photo's from the local Vista machine.
Any ideas of what the problem may be?

It is an HP dv6040ca that has vista 64-bit on it. It has a NVIDIA sata driver, that I have tried to up date today.
Drat. HP has been offering a Microsoft Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller Update/Rollback that has been helping with this sort of thing on desktop models (32-bit), but they aren't offering it on notebooks.
Are you up to date on that BIOS update they are offering? (They don't say what it does, but it might be worth a crack.)
