Photo sync trying to optimize my whole collection? why?

I choose 'Select Folders' and picked 4 to 5 folders maybe about 500 pictures total.
When it syncs it says its optimizing 1 of 12196 (which is going to take some time).
What is it doing as I did not choose the whole library? Plus even after it completes there is nothing there but Camera Roll.
Tried a reboot makes no difference.

  • ICloud photo sync stops after 30% of my collection (30000 pics)

With the latest update of Yosemite I finally switched to Foto iso iPhoto.
I switched on the iCloud option and  expanded my storage to 200gig.
I have a collection of 30000 pics (yeah, I need to clean up )
It started syncing ok (although slow) but now it completely stopped at 10400 pics).
New pics taken by the iPhone end up in iCloud (I see them fine on the iPad or AppleTV) but don't sync with Foto (of Photo).
    Advice anyone?

I have the same problem, my library has 52000 photos, but stopped uploading to iCloud with 37384 pictures to go... very annoying!
Is a way to "reset" Photos so it starts uploading again?
I have plenty of free iCloud storage left, so that isn't the problem.
BTW, Photos (agent) has been using all my computer's resources for three days now, I find it very that irritating Photos has no user control about its large memory, disk space and CPU usage... If it keeps doing it I will have to stop using it and switch to other photo management software that lets me decide what I want to do with my computer

Trying to sync new photos from iphoto without having the old photo synced on ipad2 but when I select sync from iphoto the old photos are already included. How do I stop itunes from preselecting photos? Already tried selecting "selected albums, events, and faces, and automatically include" then I enter "no Events" with no success the photos still are being synced along with the new photos. I want to be able to add new photo and remove old photos. Please help this has taken a lot of my time trying to figure it out.

If I knew the answer I would have given it - but since it is not an iPhoto question I suggested
You might try the iPad forum - or the iTunes forum - this really is not an iPhoto question

  • TS3697 I've this problem and don't know what to do , i'n trying to follow these steps so i'm asking how to turn off photo syncing and to sync my device

I've this problem and don't know what to do , i'n trying to follow these steps so i'm asking how to turn off photo syncing and to sync my device

As the article you attached says, "Within iTunes, select the device, then select the Photos pane and turn off syncing."
In other words, once you click on the device in iTunes on your computer (with the iPhone attached), you then click "Photos" near the top and uncheck the "sync photos" box.
Then you sync your device by clicking something in the lower right (it probably says "Apply", but it might say "Sync").

  • Photos sync OK, but when edited in iPhoto, the original photos still appear.

Photos sync fine to iPhone. However, if I edit (crop) one of these photos in iPhoto, the unedited version still appears on the phone after resyncing. I have tried unchecking the box next to the photo album, then syncing and pulling it completely off the phone. Then I recheck the box and sync the photos back to the phone. The old, unedited versions of the photos still appear on the phone. What to do?? Thanks for your help!!

I am exporting as a JPG. I think I figured out the problem. In the old iPhoto I could export from the Edit menu. On this new version, I have click on the Photos button and go back to the screen that shows the whole event and export from there.
It's a pain and much less efficient but it seems to be working.

  • Photo sync problems

I have tried syncing photos from my computer (Win7 OS) from the native My Pictures files and from Picasa. I have tried doing all folders and individual folders. The sync starts with it telling me that it is optimizing the photos and the volume bar shows that it is importing a large group of photos. As soon as the optimization ends and the import begins, it imports one photo, the volume bar drops out and I wind up with only one photo out of 1165. I have tried everything to get it to work but this happens every time. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

I finally figured out the problem and it has nothing to do with the iPad. I went into each individual picture folder properties on my PC and unchecked the box that says "Read only" and then clicked "Apply". I then synced the pictures using the select individual folders option and every photo synced to the iPad...FINALLY!

  • Apple TV Photo Syncing - what a disaster.  Anyone have an idea?

I'm new to the ATV - my son gave me one for Christmas. I have been trying to like it, but it continues to frustrate me. I really wanted to use it to stream photos to my TV, but for some reason, Apple has decided that you can either stream or sync, but not both. I am able to stream videos from a NAS thru the ATV, but not Photos. Ridiculous. After doing some experimenting, I saw that the ATV actually reduces the size of synced photos, so my fairly large (100,000+) collection would actually fit on the device. So, I spent the weekend syncing my photos to it, taking up about 49GB of file space to store 400GB of photos. Although the ATV ran slower, all of the photos were there. I made one small change, and clicked to sync, and five hours later it was still trying to syncronize. At that point, I stopped the process, rebooted ATV and closed ITunes. When I tried to sync again, I received a message from ITunes that it was unable to communicate with the ATV. I left it for an hour or so, and when I looked again, things had not changed. At this point, I deleted the link between the ATV and Itunes, and set it up again. When the ATV restarted, there were only about 300 pictures on it. When I relinked with Itunes, they were completely gone.
How the &(*$ is this possible? What engineer in their right mind would design a device to delete its files like this? What a horrible, horrible machine. I was just starting to like apple, and this has got me longing for Redmond again.
Can someone tell me if I am wasting my time trying to make this work?

Yes, I understand that you are just a user, and I appreciate your feedback. That's why I thanked you for your assistance. If you are offended because I responded and clarified by addressing your comments, I am sorry. That was not my intent. That doesn't change my opinion that it is a ridiculous process to delete data without allowing me to request or confirm the action first. Not blaming YOU, just stating my opinion. I also didn't expect you to read my mind, or know details that I had not provided previously. That's why I told you.
Jeez. You are way too sensitive.

  • Photos sync from iPhone 9.4.2 got wrong display order in iOS 6

First of all, before I updated iPhoto to the newest version 9.4.2, all things worked fine.
I have set iTunes to sync photos to my new iPad from my iPhoto library, and I have create many smart albums. I know the display order of the photos synced to iPad is sorted by the photo's create time. and it's ok for me.
But after I updated to iPhoto 9.4.2, the problem come. The photos in the smart album on iPad got wrong display order. The order now is sorted by rotation! the landscape direction comes first, then the portrait direction after that. After some time study, I found this only affect the photos which are newly imported to iPhoto. The photos imported before I updated the iPhoto work fine.
Then I tried to create a totally new iPhoto library which contains the whole same set of all the photos, and continued to create the same smart albums. After I synced to the iPad again, the display order of all the smart album got wrong! They all sorted by rotation!
The display order in iPhoto itself on my MacBook was fine. The problem only occurs on my iPad.
I tried all my best to figure out why, and failed, then I thought it may be caused by the update of the iPhoto.
Yesterday, I visited Apple Retail Store, and met some geniuses. They didn't solve this either.
    Can anyone help me? Thanks!

  • How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?

    Hi !
    I'm using LR 5.7.1 on a Mac.
When I've retouched raw pictures with PS CC (and do not need the PSD file any longer) I export the PSD (that is in my catalog) as JPG and let it add to my catalog automatically. After that I delete the PSD file. That works fine.
But .... the new JPG file is not assigned to any collection. That's no problem unless I forget to do it manually after that export (and import).
That brings me to my question.
How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?
I tried it with a smart collection after I found nothing suitable in library filter. The search criteria I tried are Source -> Collection with any of the conditions. One with an empty value field, then with just a space and so on.
Has anybody a good hint for me?
    Thomas

You can also add numbers if you have collections that don't use alphabet characters.

  • ITunes can no longer find my iPhoto - no iPhone photo sync ability...help!?

Hello...okay, some data - I am currently running Lion and all the latest software updates, I am also running multiple users on this iMac, I am also sharing the iPhoto library using the "Shared Library" method.  My wifes iPhone (via her own account on the iMac) does access the iPhoto library properly from iTunes and she IS able to choose certain albums to sync (instead of the "All photos,..." option).  I cannot.  Please see the screenshot I took:
Please note that the "Selected albums,..." option is greyed out and despite the radio button on "All..." being selected, no photos sync, ala, the error message.
It's as if my iTunes account no longer sees the Shared iPhoto file and refuses to "reconnect" to it...
iPhoto runs fine and launches from my account without issue...even launches when I connect my iPhone and download photos and videos.  So, like I say, I feel like it's iTunes no longer thinking I have a valid iPhoto running.
Both my iPad and iPhone give me this message.  Think it has something to do with permissions, but have run a permissions fix both from the Disk Utility and from booting holding down the Command +R method, and then using Utilities, Terminal and Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs.
I feel like my whole user account is kinda screwed ever since the migration to Lion, but a Lion reinstall did not fix it and I am not quite ready to start from scratch with a new userID...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Locate and remove the iPod Photo Cache folder(s). A new one will be recreated the next time you sync Photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library, but may solve your sync problem.

  • Apple TV 1st Gen + iTunes 10 + Photo Sync (with Aperture 3) = No Sync

I recently started to experience the same issues that others have reported regarding not being able to sync their Apple TV classic (1st generation) with iTunes 10.
I grudgingly disconnected my Apple TV from iTunes which wiped out all the content. Then when I started a new sync, the Apple TV (and my iMac) froze when trying to connect.
So, I disconnected them again, and quickly set the sync preferences to a "Custom" sync. After an hour of playing around with the settings, and turning on (one by one) syncing of video content, music and podcasts, I've narrowed it down ... to Photo syncing with Aperture.
All of the other content that iTunes will let me select, syncs fine. I've re-synced my entire music library, but if I even setup iTunes to sync 1 photo from Aperture to my Apple TV ... freeze-o-matic.
Anyone else run into this issue and/or been able to find a workaround to fix it?

Finally found answer, many thanks to:

This solved my questionHT1784 Re: In iTunes my Apple tv (1st Generation) only shows Summary and photos so I can no longer load a movie and sync to the Apple tv. Anybody else experienced options now missing ? Jun 13, 2012 5:04 AM (in response to Savlegs)
    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your library has become a secondary (streaming only) library only (it is possible to turn syncing off by ctrl-clicking on the Apple TV listing in the device list and choosing 'Turn Off Syncing" from the contextual menu) and you need to reconnect your library as a primary library.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Photos sync from computer folders, but are in the wrong albums and some photos only appear as a white box?

On my iPad 2, I'm syncing my photos through iTunes from folders on my computer, as I am a photographer and don't like to use iPhoto and not have direct access to my original files.
My photos sync without any hassle, but when viewing them on the iPad half the photos present as white boxes or a half photo/half white screen. I tried resetting iPad as a last measure, I've deleted the photo cache etc, to no avail. In fact, the most recent time I tried it didn't fix the white screen, but also added another issue- my photos now are completely mixed up within the albums. Christmas photos and showing in the Easter album and so on, there seems to be no logic in it! As I was given my iPad last month by my father in laws company, they had bought their stock a while ago and it's now out of AppleCare support - even though I've only used it for a month! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
My Mac is a 1 yr old MacBook pro running snow leopard. My iTunes was the second oldest version, have just updated to most recent version, but it hasn't fixed anything.

Updating to the latest Iphoto release solved this. First time it rebuilt the libraries the pics appeared again.

  • Photo sync leaving gallery on phone in a mess

Hi, I am trying to move some pictures to my Nokia 5230. I have downloaded and clean installed the latest Ovi-suite. I have connected the phone and chosen pc-suite data transfer mode. I then synced the photos between the PC and the phone. In Ovi-suite/Photos/Phone it showed 11 pictures: a couple of portraits of my wife, the two images currently used on my contacts, two blank images, a blurred image and one image of my PC.So I added a folder with the three additional images that I synced the photos with my phone. I then selected sync photos, it ran, and it said 'Photo sync done!'. However, in ovi-suite 'Photos in Nokia 5230' it still shows only the original 8 pictures. Going to Gallery/ Images & videos on my phone it only shows me four icons (a person a grey gredation, a globe and a globe with a bit of filmstrip. These look like the contents of a system folder. However, when I tried taking a picture it then updated the gallery display to show the same four icons, five music tracks (as a key symbol), the pictures the picture of my PC, and the picture I have just taken. The pictures of my wife, the ones used for my contacts, and the ones from the added folder are nowhere to be seen. I am worried that Ovi-suite may be corrupting the data on my phone. Can anyone help me sort out what is going on here? Thanks

    Connect device.
    Select the Apps tab.
Untick the "sync apps" option and sync the device.
Then tick the "sync apps" option and sync the device.
This should rectify the issue and put all the apps back on the device.  No game or app specific settings will be lost.
