Photo sync volume changes on iPhone

Running Leopard on an iMac, with iTunes 10, and syncing iPhone 4. I have noticed recently the space taken up by my photos changing radically. I have photos set up to sync all photos from Aperture. I noticed the space taken up as being 5.7 GB, which seemed a lot bigger than before. I synced the phone again, and it went down to 1.2 GB. Played around some and was able to reproduce this problem. Seems whenever I click refresh to update my podcasts, then go back to my iPhone on the left, under devices, the space taken up by my photos goes back to 5.7 GB. I sync again, and it goes back down to 1.2. I can do this endlessly. Strange, no?

OK, that's cool, the thing about changing capacity from GB to number of photos. Thanks.
Here's what happens. I sync my iPhone. The iPhone shows 52 videos and 2,156 photos (for 1.01 GB), iTunes shows 48 videos and 2,160 photos. If you add these figures in either place, the add up to same number, so I figure they are just looking at the media differently. Now if I go do something else in iTunes, like refresh podcasts or just click on apps, then go back and highlight the iPhone under devices, the capacity bar swells to 5.5 GB, but the number of photos in iTunes moves up just to 2189. Videos stay same. The iPhone doesn't change at all. I sync again. During the process of syncing, iTunes says it is optimizing 29 photos. The capacity goes back down to 1.01 GB and 2160 photos, which is exactly 29 less than before, so it must be those 29 photos it is optimizing. My question is, why does it swell like that without me doing anything (for example just clicking on apps, not even refreshing them or anything).
I also have problems getting videos to sync from Aperture, but that seems to be a problem others are having that I've read on other posts.

  • I had a/b 7000 photos sync'd to my iPhone 3GS (16GB) from my PC...Today, all my photos are lost

I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a head's up on what to do when you iP cannot successfully sync photos... the following is my dilemma:
I had a/b 7000 photos sync'd to my iPhone 3GS (16GB, w/ 4+GB available) from my PC...Today, all my photos are lost & every time I re-sync, iTunes gets to the end of the optimization & then stops working! This incomplete sync happens if sync is for 1-photo or all!!!

Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, deselect Sync Photos followed by a sync.
This will remove all photos from your iPhone that were transferred from your computer.
Follow this by reselecting Sync Photos under the Photos tab making your selection below regarding the photos you want transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync.
If no change after this, try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from your computer.

  • Photo sync from pc to iPhone to keep folder organization question

I would appreciate some assistance on HOW to sync my photos from my pc to the iPhone while KEEPING them in their nicely organized folders?
When I tried the first time, I had it sync "my photos" folder which contains 79 folders, which include sub folders themselves. What it got was all 3000 photos came across to the iPhone all in 1 folder. No sub folders at all.
I re sync'd and deleted every photo from the iPhone to try again. On my second attempt, after reading all the archived questions and answers here, I tried going into specific photo folders and syncing to the iPhone. I tried doing one by one, but when I checked the iPhone after two folders, it only takes the last one, deleting the first one.
So, with all this said, HOW do you get multiple folders of photos copied to the iPhone?
    thanks,
    Richard

    Thanks strakegl1800, You helped me.
    1. But it copies the pix both in each sub-folder AND duplicates of each pic are in the main folder called Photo Library. How can I get stop the duplicates?
    2. I can not see how to delete a folder or pic off of my phone (unless it is under the "Camera Roll" folder, in which case it shows a garbage can in the bottom right of the screen.)
    3. Also, it is good that the original folder called "Camera Roll" is also still there, but I would like to know where it shows up on my PC.
    Can you help ?

  • Photos syncing from folder to iPhone all out of order?

I have 2 folders synced to my iPhone 4 photo app.
They were previous camera rolls before I set up my phone as a new device. They are all named in order and taken in order, for example IMG_001.jpg was my first picture in my old camera roll. IMG_822.jpg was the last photo taken before I did the backup, and is the last in the folder.
The folder I am syncing from on my windows computer displays all of the pictures by filename (and because of that, by date) but when syncing with iTunes they end up on the phone ALL out of order. I can't find any rhyme or reason to how they are displaying. Most of the earlier photos show up at the beginning like they should, and the last at the bottom of the scroll appear to be mostly right, but then it's completely random from there.
I've tried unsyncing them, removing them, and then adding them back again and nothing seems to work. I've even tried renaming the IMG_xxx numbers to different things and they still appear to sync in the same random order.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a huge bug for someone with OCD like me? lol

    This is highly annoying.
I have probably 15-20 Smart Albums in iPhoto 8.1.2 in OS10.6.4 that are syncing to iOS4.0
On the old software, my Smart Albums for photos would show up AS the smart albums I created. Now they show up in the iPhone one giant mess called "Photo Library".
I can view photos broken up under "Events" on the iPhone by specific dates, but the dates don't tell me what the name of the event was, and some Smart Albums had multiple dates grouped together in one Smart Album and I don't really want them broken out separately by date. I want them organized how I organized them...
In short, I want my photos grouped the way I have explicitly grouped them. It used to work, it doesn't now.
Since iOS4.0 I am also getting sync errors all the time in iTunes. "iPhone cannot be synced because the required file cannot be found." WHICH FILE??? tell me and I will delete it...
I've rebuilt the entire database in iPhoto (took 4 hours). I've scanned iTunes and removed all broken links and duplicate files. I've scanned the hard drive with the disk tool. I've emptied the iPhone and reinstalled iOS4 on it 5 times. I've turned syncing off for all non-essential applications and stuff I don't actually sync like voice memos. Same problem.
I think I want my iOS 3 back. I don't really like multitasking anyway, always having to turn off applications for the one or two times in a million where task switching if helpful...
    Ugh....

  • How do I get the photos sync'd to the iPhone appear in a Specific order?

I have photos in a folder on my 15" (Retina) mac Book Pro and sync the photos to my iPhone 5s. All devices are running latest OS. But the photos do not appear on the phone in a sort pattern I can determine. They are not sorted by Date created, date modified, or date added to the folder or the phone.
    Anyone?

I was only able to accomplish a specific order on the phone by naming them alphabetically in iPhoto before I synced them to the phone. I prefixed the names with Aa, Ab, Ba, Bb, etc and I only did this for one Event in iPhoto that had 16 photos that I needed in a specific order on the phone.

  • Icloud photo does not upload from iphone

Dear Apple (yes other users I know this is not for Apple. Like many I am fed up by not seeing this issue fix even after OS 10.10.3 and iOS 8.3, so pardon me if I'm a bit testy).
For many many months since the iCloud Photo Beta we (I will take the liberty to speak for others in another thread that was titled 'beta' and we have been chastised and told in no uncertain terms to start a new thread so here)... have had situations where iPhone and iPad will not upload new photos to iCloud Photo. nor does it download 'as advertised'.
Please don't ask us if we have tried turning iCloud Photo off-on-off on our iOS devices, we have.
Left iPhoto in 10.10.3 running... turned everything off everywhere... turned it back on everywhere...
Submitted (me, probably 5 times) to the Feedback APple or whatever it is called.
Submitted error reports from iCloud Photo on the web which cannot start do anything... about 5 times...
    So, till now nothing.
But I will help to grow your $180bn reserves by feeding a measly $3.99 a month for 250GB (or is that $2.99? can't remember now)... for NOTHING. At least I'm keeping some allocation warm.
My love to Tim and all the guys and gals
I don't know what else to do. It's not like if you have a problem one can actually hear/get indication from anyone at Apple on what to do/how to do etc..
So, here I am starting a new thread as 'suggested' by so many people... I am sure others will provide factual/objective reports sans sarcasm. Sorry that I can't because I am totally fed up with this situation.
With love, on behalf of the 4 iPhones, 1 iMac, 1 Mac Book Air, 1 MacBook (old), 1 MBP 15" old, 1 MBP 13" Retina, 1 Apple TV, 1 AirPort Express, god knows how many ipods etc etc in my household.
Yes, I'm an idiot Apple Fan...

    Hey all,
I've transitioned to the iCloud Photo Library. All my photos sync across all devices (iPhone, iMac, iCloud.com) - I have the new Beta Photo app running on my Mac as well.
I've realized that with this setup if I delete a photo from one place, it disappears everywhere. Which I guess is convenient.
However, I don't see a way to differentiate which photos I keep on which devices. All my libraries "have" to be identical.
What do you men by 'all my libraries' You have 1 library, it's on iCloud, if you delete from there all devices connected to the account will see that you deleted it because it is no longer there.
Don't use the iCloud library if you want different libraries on each device.

I have a 5th generation IPOD and using Vista Home Premium. I have about 300 photos on my IPOD from when I was using Windows XP. I am trying to laod more photos and unable to. I can move them to the IPOD as data, but then I view them any thoughts for a solution? I just want to add more photos and not sync with my system.

  • Recomendations : Photo Sync App

    Afternoon all,
I was looking for some recomendations for a good photo sync app for my iPhone 6.
My camera roll is currently backed up to my iCloud, but this has become rather full and my iPhone is no longer backing up.
To free up some space, I want to back my camera roll up to my networked hard drive rather than to my iCloud.
I have been searching for an app that can do this, so have downloaded PhotoSync. The app works really well and backs-up my camera roll to the networked
    hard drive without a hitch.
However, auto sync is triggered by location, which required location services to be turned on. From my experience, location services really drain my battery, so I'd prefer not to have them turned on.
Does anyone know of a good photo sync app that can backup automatically to a FTP server, but that doesn't rely on location to trigger the back up (e.g. will back up when plugged in or at a set time ...).
    Any suggestions or advice welcome,
    Many thanks,
    Pete

I deleted the PhotoCache again...works now.

Try turning off the Camera Roll option in Settings>iCloud>Backup & Storage>Manage Storage>Your device. Then turn it back on again.

  • Photos not syncing between Mac and iPhone since update to Photos on Mac.

Ever since I updated to Photos on my Late 2013 macbook pro retina, photos are not syncing between it and my iPhone 6. Both are updated to the most recent software update. Photo stream is on. Does anyone have this problem or know a solution?

You will have to go the the Photos tab in iTunes when you connect the iPhone.  Then reset the photo sync options.  They were reset with the upgrade to use iCloud by default, but you can change the settings back to sync folders, just like before.

  • When I sync my photos to iPhoto from my iPhone 4S it like saves about 200 on my phone. I really don't like that because they're like really old and stay the same... Can you take that setting off? Or just make it you most recent pictures instead?

it had to do with Maverick/Aperture not supporting the same date formats as before in Smart Albums when I upgraded.
Smart albums based on dates have always been problematic, if you use smart settings that require a date string to be entered. How the date string will be interpreted, will depend on your settings in the System Preferences > Language&Text > Advanced > Dates formats and the "Region".
It is much safer to use "Calendar" rules in Aperture instead of "Date" rules with date-strings. Calendar rules will remain valid, if the region settings are changed in the System preferences.

  • IPhone photo sync interrupted to iPhoto now won't sync pics!

I was on vacation and syncing my photos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro while I lay in bed. At some point my MacBook went to sleep (I believe) and the photo syncing from iPhone to iPhoto was interrupted. Now both devices believe the photos were synced but they weren't and now the pictures and videos are taking up much needed room on my phone. What do I do to get these to sync???

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
