Photo syncing removes apps?!?!

When I choose photos to sync to my iPad 2 and click "apply" I get a message telling me that my apps will be removed!?!? I have only one computer (running OS 10.6.8) and I have plugged in this iPad previously (but not tried to sync photos before). What's going on?!?!

OK. Everything you are telling me makes sense then. You say you do not have any apps checked for syncing and that is why you are getting the message. If you have those apps on the iPad but they are not checked to sync again - they will be removed from the iPad when you sync.
I'm assuming that you do have purchased apps on the iPad, so just as you are selecting the photos that you want to sync - by checking the boxes next the selected albums that you want to sync, you must keep the checkmarks next to the apps under the Apps tab as well if you want to keep those apps on the iPad.
In the photo below, I have a checkmark in the box next to the Sync Apps heading. If I uncheck that box - I will get a message that all of the apps will be erased when I sync. I want to keep theses apps on my iPad so I must keep the checkmark next to the Sync apps box and keep the checkmarks in the boxes next to the apps themselves listed underneath .... sort by kind. If I uncheck one particular app for instance Age of Zombies - but I leave the checkmark next to the Sync Apps heading - I will get a message stating that Age of Zombies will be erased when I sync.
Long and short of it is in order to keep the apps on the iPad that are currently there, you have to select the apps to sync again or they will be erased.

  • Removing Apps from iPhone using iTunes Apps Sync Apps doesn't work

Im trying to manage the space on my iPhone 4 16GB, so when I go on hiloday I have enough space for photos and vacation movies.
When plugged in, iTunes shows my apps in the Apps tab. (it actually shows an extra page of apps which are not installed on my phone)
In iTunes I used to hover over an app, click the x to remove, confirm the prompt to delete and finally, sync. The app was gone from my phone.
    Now this doesnt work.
The other way was to uncheck the app from my list of apps (in iTunes Apps tab), and then sync.
    This doesnt work either.
I'm sure I used to use this method previously.
This is especially handy because itunes lists the applications by size, so I can easily see the ones that will free up the most space.
Is there any way to remove apps from the iPhone WITHOUT DOING IT ON THE PHONE?
Note: I have 'Sync Apps' ticked & 'automatically sync new apps' unticked.
    Im running:
    Macbook Air 2012
    OS X 10.8.1 64 Bit
    Itunes 10.7(21) 64 Bit
    iPhone 4 iOS 6.0 (10A403)

If you are syncing to the same computer that you always sync to, and have each of the items in itunes that you want synced then you shouldnt have an issue. The only way you would have an app come off your phone is if you uncheck that app from syncing in th apps location in itunes.

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Most other stuff by the third-party programs discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
However, your app data such as saved games will be lost unless you have a backup file from your old computer.

  • When I try to sync my apps to itunes nothing appears in the left hand column and i can't sync or remove them...why?

When I try to sync my apps to itunes a pop up appears that says itunes will no longer sync apps to my ipod. Then it gives me an option to either keep my apps or remove them. No matter what i press nothing happens either way. None of my apps ever appear in the left-hand column either. Why is that ?

What about the answer to my other question:
Is this the computer you synced with last time?

If they really meant that much to you, they would have been copied off to a computer at the earliest possible opportunity.
I personally find it amazing that people get so upset when pictures "accidentally" get deleted and then scream about how important they are.  You wouldn't leave important paper work lying around to be lost/damaged/stolen, so why take a chance with important pictures on a device that can so easily be lost/damaged/stolen, or deleted by a child.

  • Photo's and apps does not want to sync from iPhone to Windows.

I have a I an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.1. My problem is that none of my photo's or apps on my phone wants to sync to my computer. I have some of the photo's on my computer, but since I upgraded to iOS 7 nothing wants to sync anymore. Could someone please help. Thanks.

Sign out of iCloud Control Panel on your computer, restart the machine, then sign back in. Your photos should start syncing shortly.

  • How do i prevent removed apps from syncing when connecting to iTunes

I've "removed" apps from my iPad to free up space but when I connect to my computer, the apps "appear" to still sync.
To the upper right of the screen, it will show there are 65 apps (I removed 20 apps).  These are active apps and that is correct  When I click on the status bar at the bottom of the screen (the Apps section), it shows there are 85 apps taking up space on my iPad.
Also, where the apps are listed, the apps that were "removed" from my iPad air have an option to "Install".   I don't understand why they're still syncing.  TIA for your help!

This does not help but it does offer some insight. I have NEVER noticed this before. Take a look at the dialog box in the is screenshot. Note that it says that even if the app is deleted from the iTunes library, it will not be removed for any iOS devices when you sync.
As an experiment, I deleted the AOL On app from my iTunes library and followed the prompts to put the app in the trash - not keep it in the mobile sync folder. I synced my iPad - and the app is still on the device even though it does NOT appear in my list of apps in iTunes when the iPad is connected and selected. I have never seen that happen before.
If the app is not in your library, I always assumed that it would be erased when you sync since it is no longer in iTunes. I deleted the app in iTunes and then deleted it on the iPad and then synced again and now it is gone everywhere.
    Bizarre....

    i need help,
i have backed my iphone 4 to my new imac itunes,
i have transfered all contacts and photos but my apps wont go to my new iphone 5 , cant find the sync button??????

In iTunes, when you select your phone, you should see a tab for Apps.  Check the Sync Apps box on that page.  If you don't have many apps, you can also download directly to your phone by opening the App Store, tap Updates, and then Purchased (at top of screen).

  • Recomendations : Photo Sync App

    Afternoon all,
I was looking for some recomendations for a good photo sync app for my iPhone 6.
My camera roll is currently backed up to my iCloud, but this has become rather full and my iPhone is no longer backing up.
To free up some space, I want to back my camera roll up to my networked hard drive rather than to my iCloud.
I have been searching for an app that can do this, so have downloaded PhotoSync. The app works really well and backs-up my camera roll to the networked
    hard drive without a hitch.
However, auto sync is triggered by location, which required location services to be turned on. From my experience, location services really drain my battery, so I'd prefer not to have them turned on.
Does anyone know of a good photo sync app that can backup automatically to a FTP server, but that doesn't rely on location to trigger the back up (e.g. will back up when plugged in or at a set time ...).
    Any suggestions or advice welcome,
    Many thanks,
    Pete

I deleted the PhotoCache again...works now.

  • Do I still need to sync my phone to remove apps and other content

I used to have to synch my iPhone with iTunes on my computer to remove apps and things like podcasts from my phone so they did not up storage space. Is this still true? I seldom use my computer and just leave iTunes open for household sharing.

Hacking an iPhone for any reason is against Apple's license agreement for the iPhone, is not supported by Apple directly or indirectly via these discussions, and voids the warranty.
None of this will change if you choose to hack your iPhone.
Jailbreaking is considered "Fair Use" by our government and this is the one and only meaningful sense in which it is legal. It is legal, period. Any discussion of license agreements has nothing to do with the legality of jailbreaking.
Apple can have their own terms of use/license agreement and it can (and does) go beyond what the government will allow/disallow. But you risk no civil or criminal penalties for jailbreaking.
And... as already discussed, jailbreaking is not a physical act, not permanent, and you can unjailbreak at any time and Apple would be clueless.
    So do that.
