Photo to Movie software - Worth it?

I have seen the software app Photo to Movie referenced here many times in a positive light. I know it is available in a basic version for free download but was wondering if anyone who has the full paid version can comment on the value of the additional features. Normally priced at $49.99, I see they are offering it for $29.99 one day only... tomorrow Feb 29th as a Leap Year sale. I am planning to purchase unless someone is aware of any downside to the app in general or the paid version in particular. Thanks!

Well I'm the one who usually refers to it and have used it for 4 or 5 years very happily. It gives you a great deal of control over the "Ken Burns" effect and is way ahead of anything that iPhoto will do. You can cut very precisely to the Music and with QuickTime Pro export to pretty much any size you like - even HD. It's easy to learn, easy to use and can really add to your Slideshow.
There is no "basic free download". There are no "additional features" afaik. There is a free trial period, after which you must purchase the software.
I've recently moved on from PhotoToMovie, I'm now using Final Cut Express - which is rather less convenient, but I wanted to learn to work with a more hard core editor. I can heartily recommend PhotoToMovie, and at the special price tomorrow I say go ahead and buy it.

I have a 250GB western digital external hard drive for my time machine backups. I did not download the software that came with the external HD. If I only want to backup my photos and movies from my Macbook how do I do that in Tme Machine with my external HD?

Format the HDD in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the open System Preferences>Time Machine and set up the external disk as the Time Machine HDD.  Then look at the Options, and exclude what you do not want backed up.
    Ciao.

  • Apple TV vs. PS3 for photos & home movies

I'm sure some of you have both of these units and have a comparison as to which unit displays photos & home movies better (sharpness, color, etc.) I recently bought the Apple TV and I'm not that impressed with the photo quality and 960x540 home movie recoding quality. The PS3 outputs at 1080p, and should be superior to the Apple TV in quality. I know you can use the Medialink software on the PS3 to interface with my Mac's iphoto & itunes.
Looking for some real world comparisons from owner's of both systems.
    Thanks guys

I own both, use a Mac for my computer, and have owned my PS3 longer than the Apple TV.
Honestly, the PS3 sees more use than my ATV. However, for simple viewing of iTunes media on my HDTV, the ATV works well whereas I know I'd have issues with the PS3.
I use a transcoding media app on OSX that allows me to browse through my videos on my PS3 as if my iMac were a media server. The system works quite well, honestly. I'd say that it is EASIER in a way to view non-Apple-formated videos this way, but if it is a standard that iTunes or ATV can play in HD, then the ATV works better and outputs it at the HD res without transcoding loss like I'd see through the PS3-media server linkage.
For example: I have all of Farscape and Babylon 5 bought through the ITMS and thus watch it on my HDTV via the ATV. Also, my other videos that iTunes plays play though the ATV perfectly well without some of the network hitching I get when trying to view them transcoded via the PS3 media server (I'm convinced this is a case of my iMac needing more RAM to let my 2 cores do their work..... if only I had the new 27" iMac.... drool . . . . 4 cores available do to the encoding.....) for the HD versions (for example, the HD version of the popular "where the **** is matt" youtube video).
As an iTunes interface to an HDTV, the ATV does its job and does it well (with some caveats). Outside of that, the PS3 excels. Also, HD movies through the ITMS are nothing compared to their blueray counterparts. Then again, the PSN video store pales in comparison to the ITMS. Star Trek is available in HD through the PSN video store, but the audio is only in 2ch stereo. Sad. I have the movie on blu-ray (which has the audio in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD), so I'm not sure what the HD version is on the ITMS.
I see the 2 systems (ATV and PS3) as complementing each other. My PS3 is my blu-ray player, non-iTunes video player, and game system. My ATV is my iTunes interface for my Home Theater system. However, as I live in an apartment, I more generally just use my apple remote and control the audio on my iMac directly. Still, the ATV is quite useful for nights when I just want to rent a video (the PSN video store is lacking, and the new netflix service for the PS3 requires a Netflix authorization disc to use in the PS3.... most likely due to contractual agreement..... (thankyou M$ for binding Sony's hands like that, you know you're the ones who did that with your money paid to Netflix). The ITMS through the ATV is therefore easier for me to use and more expansive on video selection (though I still have yet to see Gods and Generals appear on the ITMS video store.... grrr), so for HD rental, the ATV is the choice I make.
As far as photos.... since my Photos are in the standard place on my mac, the ATV is more readily there to display them all than is my PS3, which would require me to have up and running the media server app on my Mac (which I don't always have running).
So, like I said, the 2 systems complement each other. Still, for the specific use you're talking about, I think the ATV does just fine. However, if you're looking for a comprehensive system, I might suggest the PS3 first, as you get the PSN, blu-ray player, and game system all in one. If you can, though, BOTH is even better (and affordable since the PS3 Slim now came out.... though I have been hearing gripes about some problems with people's PS3 Slims.... but that's in Sony's Disc. forums, and it is like the ones here: kind of an emergency room).

  • IPhoto 6 or Photo to Movie

    Hey all,
I'm a new Mac user and do like iPhoto 6 quite a bit for making slideshows with all the slick transitions and the Ken Burns effect. I ran across Photo to Movie and am wondering if anyone has had recent experience with this program? What's that general consensus when compared to iPhoto 6? Is it better/worse/indifferent? Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Hi saavy seamonkey! I hope you love your MacBook! (I am confident you will.)
I have also been wondering about Photo to Movie, so tonight downloaded the demo (did you see the free trial button at:
    http://lqgraphics.com/software/)?
I played with it a bit, made a small slideshow. I found on playback that some slides were a tad jerky, which is not a good deal. Not sure if things like that would happen on the full version or when burned or saved, though.
I like that it can be manipulated. In iPhoto's slideshow I am kind of frustrated in that the Ken Burns effect decides which sections of a photo IT will zoom around on. And for close-ups, often it cuts off tops of heads or other vital body parts -- OR -- in the fiddling party I shot last weekend it actually zoomed in on a few crotches. Definitely NOT something I can burn and share!
So Photo to Movie looks like a good value - but I, too, would like to hear more reports from others.
    Best,
    Patty

  • Photo to Movie - a little jerky

Hi - im sorry if im in the wrong forum, but I think this is the closest match. And its regarding third party software but I know you guys a such a knowedgable bunch
Ive just bought Photo to Movie (great app) and exported a DV slideshow 16:9 at its default 29fps. However, after ive burnt to a DVD some of the transitions appear a little jerky on the longer pan/zoom shots.
I was wondering if this was to do with the frame rate maybe? Ive always been a little hazy on the subject of framerate - but should I be using 25fps and does it make a difference that Im exporting for a UK tv rather than the US pal?
    Or am I talking rubbish
thanks in advance for your help
    Nick

I dont use Photo to Movie but if you are operating in the UK then your projects should be in PAL which is 25 fps and not 29 fps (which is for NTSC). See if that makes a difference.

  • Syncing photos or movies causes power loss

    Dear All,
I have an issue with a Toshiba Portege Laptop running Windows 7 syncing with iPad 2 or iPhone 4
When I sync photos or movies to the iOS device the Laptops lose power and switch off sudenly. I mean the Laptop lose power like the battery runs out or there is no A/C power connected.  It happens with an iPad2 or iPhone 4 when the iTunes syncing has to load a greater amount of data to the iOS device.
Since it happens with either iOS device, I do believe it is a power issue with the Toshiba Laptop. The Laptop has two USB ports, but it makes no difference. It could be an issue with Windows 7 and the power scheme. The Laptop is running the 64 bit edition of Win7 and the 64bit edition of iTunes.
I was googling a bit and looked here in the forums, but couldn't find any related solution.
I'm thinking if it would make a difference to attach a USB powered hub with own A/C power.
I'm very grateful for any hint. The iPad is useless, when it doesn't sync photos or movies.
    Thank you
    Edy

Okay I have attached now an external powered (A/C Adapter) USB 2.0 hub. It didn't make any difference. The Laptops switched (lost power) during the optimation process of the photos to sync.
The Laptop is a Win7  64bit Toshiba with the 32bit iTunes. I noticed during the sync that the processes of the CPU are  100%. During photo optimation two processes are running of "ITunesphotoprocessor_32.exe*. I killed one process and the CPU usage went down and the sync with the iPad ran okay.
Question here: Why iTunes starts two process "iTunesphtoprocessor_32.exe*?
Obviously only one processor is enough.
Unfortunately when I sync movies, the Laptop lose power as well and only iTunes.exe processor is running. CPU usage is 100% again.
It's clear now that the Laptop is overheating during sync and the BIOS sends a command to switch off. It does bypass the Operating System.
I'm wondering, if iTunes 64bit would bring a change. I've read here and googled that the 64bit version has only some drivers in 64bit but not the core application.
Worth to mention here that the Tosbhiba laptops has no problem with any external hard (powered from USB port) drives copying a huge amount of data.
    Thanks

  • Error in photo to movie

    Hello out there,
I was hoping that someone will have an answer for this. We have been using the program photo to movie for about a year successfully.....we are now running into an error that says 1/0...also something to do with make sure that volume is working properly??? ...the file does not complete....not a good thing! HELP!
Any ideas or help with this would be greatly appreciated!!!!

If there is, it wouldn't be part of Apple Discussions. Photo To Movie is made by a different company. Here is the website:http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php.

  • Unable to reinstall HP MediaSmart Photo/Video/Movie after System Recovery

My NoteBook originally came w/ Vista Ultimate & HP gave me a a disk for upgrade to Windows 7.
Doing another System Recovery and while upgrading to Windows 7 it was recomended I uninstall HP MediaSmart Photo/Video/Movie since it might not be compatible w/ W7, which I did. After recovery/upgrade I find out HP has me reinstalling the same version. However, it will not install. I get the following message:

    Hi,
The download page for a lot of notebooks often has multiple entries for the same software - for both drivers and other software, just install the latest version.
When you believe that you have installed all relevant software and drivers, you can always check by opening windows Control Panel and then opening Device Manager - look for any entry here that has a warning icon ( yellow triangle ) next to it.  If you find any, right click on the problem device and select Properties.  Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.
    Best regards,

  • Shared photos music movies, Incorrect labeling??

Have an ATV 2, Mac G5 synced and PC shared. ON the ATV in the My Music or Photos or Movies selections the text on the top of those say "My Music". "My Photos", "My Movies", this is from the G5......no problem there.
The PC which is shared, under Shared Music or Photos or Movies the Music says "Name of computers Music"..which is correct. Shared Photos also says "Name of computers Music"...it should say "Name of computers Photos" and under Shared Movies it says "Name of computers Music"...it should say"Name of computers Movies".
Has anyone else noticed this? It doesn't seem like a setup issue. Looks like a software writing issue.
    Anyone??
    Thanks,
    Andrew

We have an imac and a macbook pro laptop.  Is there any way to store the main photo library centrally so that we can edit and organize pictures and videos from both machines and have the changes/updates seamless appear on the other?
iPhoto Libraries must be located on a drive that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored for it to work properly and be used by more than one user.  It should not be accessed wirelessly as that can lead to library database corruption due to dropouts occurring when writhing to the library's database file.  The following is from this Apple document: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users - Apple Support.
It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss. If you use both iPhoto and Aperture with the same library, using a Mac OS X Extended formatted volume is recommended. For more information, see Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library.
As you know iPhoto has been discontinued and is being replaced by a new application called "Photos".  It will have integration with the iCloud Drive and offer library sharing of some kind between Macs.  We'll have to wait for it's release sometime this Spring before we know more.

  • IPhoto nightmare. Tried to import photos using Nikon software for the first time and all my photos disappeared from iPhoto 8.1.2 (and everything from itunes too). Newly reinstalled iPhoto crashes as soon as I import anything now.

Macbook OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2. I just tried to import some photos using Nikon software (View NX2) for the first time. When I next looked into iPhoto it was empty (so was iTunes but that's another story). I had backed up photos fairly recently but don't use time machine. Searched in vain everywhere and must have done something wrong because iPhoto wouldn't then open at all, saying it was unreadable. After a lot more attempts to recover I uninstalled iPhoto and the receipts and reinstalled from my original disc. It seemed to be ok and imported some photos from my iphone but as soon as the import is complete iPhoto crashes and when opened again it is empty. Have tried this several times and have shut down and have tried rebuilding with the alt and cmd buttons but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

not a reply but not sure how to add something to my own thread! It seems that Desktop was damaged too as when I try to open it a screen says there is no application selected to open Desktop with. No idea what I should choose! Any help appreciated, have really made a mess of my MacBook this time.

  • How do I make new albums in photos and move picture from one album to another

How do I make new albums in Photos and move photos from one album to another

At the moment you can't - though it should be possible (if it makes it into the final release) in iOS 5 which will be available sometime in the Autumn. Photos cannot currently be moved between albums on the iPad.
If  you sync separate folders from your computer you'll get an album for each of them on the iPad, and you have to sync all the folders/albums that you want together as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad (not including a folder in a sync is the way that you delete it from the iPad).

  • I have set up our school ipads to be supervised by Apple Configurator and am using VPP to buy apps.  I now find the supervised ipads do not allow the pupils to download photos or movies etc. Any suggestions would be great please.

I have set up our school ipads to be supervised by Apple Configurator and am using VPP to buy apps. I did this initially as our school internet connection was stopping us from being able to update the IOS and our County was offering a managed system, Lightspeed, which took control of every device in school which proved very expensive.  I now find the supervised ipads do not allow the pupils to download photos or movies etc. As we frequently use the ipads as cameras this is causing us a problem. We have a school imac that I use to keep the devices updated with Apple Configurator (not connected to our network), and this doesn't seem to offer any solution to download them either.  I was told there was a setting in Apple Configurator to allow other computers to download from supervised devices, but I can't see it anywhere.  I am very new to this so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated please.

I assume you are wanting to take the photos and movies off the iPads?
Connect the iPad to a Apple computer. Open "Image Capture". Any photos or video can me imported to the desktop or other location on your computer.
I had this same problem last year and as we have no wifi I asked lots of people at Apple what I could do - no one provided this answer (a little unbelievable!). If you have wifi using something like dropbox would be an easier solution.
    Hope this helps

  • My files, photos, email files, software programs, and all information did NOT transfer over to Mavericks (from Mt. Lion).  How do I get all my stuff to appear when using Mavericks?

My files, photos, email files, software programs, calendar info, and all information did NOT transfer over to Mavericks (from Mt Lion).  How do I get all my stuff to appear when using Mavericks?
    My email did transfer over.
    Thank you.

First click on the Apple > Logout and Log back in or restart the unit see if that solves it.  If it doesn't do you have a backup of your system prior to upgrade?  Check Disk Utility and see how much space is being used to make sure the drive wasn't somehow erased.

  • Photos and movies don't appear in Events/Photos but do appear in Last 12 months

Hello. I'm using the latest version of iPhoto 11 (9.1.1). When I browse through my photos via the Events or Photos section of the iPhoto sidebar (under Library), certain photos and movies are missing. They simply don't appear there at all. However, when I click the "Last 12 Months" section of the iPhoto sidebar (under Recent), the photos and movies are there. If I try re-importing the missing photos and movies I'm told they are duplicates, so they must be in my iPhoto Library - they just refuse to show up under Events or Photos! I've tried ticking all the rebuild options by holding down command and option when I start iPhoto, but to no avail. Perhaps there's a setting I've inadvertently ticked that hides certain photos and movies? Hidden Photos is ticked under the View menu. I have View > Sort Photos set to "By date" / "Ascending".
    Thanks for all your help!
    Cheers,
    Greg

since both last 12 months and events or photos are simply different views of the same photos in your library they are there - the most common issue is incorrect dates so you are looking in the wrong event - you can find the event by selecting the photo in the last 12 months view and and right clicking and using the show event command - you can correct the dates by selecting the photo and using the photos menu ==> adjust time/date command
