Photo Tools 2

Does anyone use OnOne phototools Photoshop plug in. When I open it my picture is not showing in the before and after pane. What do I do to show iy.

myjkem2,
I use the onOne suite of plugin's on CS4. It hasn't been a perfect relationship, but it's better now. I used to have the same issue, but only after about the 3rd or 4th photo being editing with Photo Tools. My suggestion would be to contact tech support at onOne or alternatively, post this same question in the onOne forum. http://www.ononesoftware.com/

This is a link to Microsoft's new Pro Photo Tools 2, which includes reading and writing to XMP sidecar files. I don't know how well it works.

Have you looked at Jeffrey Friedl's cross platform tool? http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/gps and http://regex.info/blog/2008-10-29/979
This works inside Lightroom, understands track log files, works with manual tagging from google maps and much more.

  • Imagenomic Portraiture - Eye Candy & Photo Tools Conflict?

Hello, I'm running PS CS5 64 bit/Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.  I rely heavily on Imagenomic Portraiture Plug-In, but since installing 64 bit Photoshop on 64 bit Windows I have not been able to use Eye Candy or Photo Tools.  With Portraiture installed, installing either Eye Candy or Photo Tools causes Photoshop to crash on opening.  I have searched this forum and the Internet in general but have not seen anything on this.  I had a fairly long thread going with an Alien Skin rep who stated:
    Jim White, Mar-11 16:08 (EST):
Yes. There is a bug in their plug-in that fails to correctly isolate the plug-ins from one another. They addressed this in the 32-bit version with an update, but last time I checked they had not updated the 64-bit versions. I sent a couple of emails to them but never received a response. You can check to make sure that is the problem by dragging their plug-in out onto the desktop, restarting Photoshop, and trying our program again.
I made the problem go away by doing his test.  I have not posted to Imagenomic yet (they are next) but have searched their forum and have not seen anything about this conflict.  I have the latest Portraiture version which is many moons old.
Has anybody here dealt with this conflict?  Is this the right place to post this subject?  I don't see anything about plug-ins here.
    Thanks - Dave

That is counterintuitive.  I suspect  you uncheck this box but with other ramifications.
As I understand it, with natural scrolling the paradigm is that you are directly manipulating the content as opposed to manipulating the scroll bar. That is why you do a two fingered drag from the bottom of a trackpad to the top in order to scroll towards the bottom of the page. Similarly, if the app supports it, when you swipe from left to right you should get the previous page (this works in safari). If the app doesn't support the two finger swipe gesture you have to use the three finger swipe. Unfortunately, the swipe direction is in the opposite direction. In order to go back a page you need to swipe from left to right.
You said: "That is counterintuitive.  I suspect  you uncheck this box but with other ramifications."
Apart from being grammatically incorrect, the statement seems to indicate an incomplete understanding on your part of natural scrolling.
The three finger swipe utilizes the old (unnatural) scroll paradigm. What I want is a way to make the three finger swipe (for apps that do not support the two finger gesture) conform to the natural paradigm.
    Any suggestions?

  • Windows Photo Tools, iPhone, and Folders

When I connect my iPhone 3GS to my PC laptop (Windows  Vista Professional) using the USB cable, I get the same window opening up on my PC as when I insert a memory card or connect a camera.  One of the choices is "import photos", which seems to work fine; I tested it this morning, and all the photos, screen-captures, and videos taken on my phone were copied to a folder on my PC, just the way this has always worked with USB devices and the built-in card reader.
Being new to the iPhone, I have a question.  Are there any controls of how these images are stored?  Some cameras and phones can create folders for each "day" or "month" for snapped photos.  Does the iPhone have this kind of configuration?
Second question - I'm still trying to find ways to create mullti-level folders for where to store my photos - for example, a main folder "photos", with yearly folders within that folder, and sub-folders within the yearly folders, etc.  I know this is not normally possible, but the websites I was looking at said that it is possible if you use Aperture or Photoshop Elements.  I can't run Aperture (I'm using a PC) but if Photoshop Elements will solve the problem, that's a perfect solution for me.  Any advice?  Has anyone done this?

I get the same "Auto Play" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AutoPlay) window that opens up on my PC that I would see when I connect a USB device.  I don't need to "remedy" this - it's what my PC is supposed to do.  Yes, I do have the latest version if itunes.  At least my PC says the itunes software is up to date.
I have no desire to change this - it's very handy, and that's now how I import all my photos from cameras, phones, memory cards....     It's simple, easy, fast, and works the same regardless of the source.  (I no longer concern myself with which device the photos came from.)
As to a digital camera that can do that, My Nikon DSLRs do it. I think most of them can do it.  Here's a bit of information on what you can do:  http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1034&message=39898630&chang emode=1
Again, regarding multiple levels of storage on the phone, when I did all the searching about this, I read that the only way to do so is to use Aperture or Photoshop Elements.  The first choice won't help me, as I use Lightroom instead of Aperture, but the reason I'm asking here is to find out how I can do it in Photoshop Elements.  (Again, I have never seen this - I'm just repeating what I've read in various support forums).

  • Extensis Photo Tools plugin

Does anyone know if there's a way to get Extensis Phototools 3.0 to work with Photoshop CS3?

    "Take a look at this"
    http://www.photoshopuser.com/?page=cs4/videos&video=rc_flashpanel
Yeah, I was investigating that as well, and despite my general trepidation about using Flash (or whatever) for UI, this looks like it could take indie development for add-ons and bust the playing field wide open.
    Add to that the
PixelBender development enviro, and we could be seeing a whole lot of new neato function coming to Photoshop in the next couple years.
    UI Extra:
The Adobe X D (Experience Design) team plans to launch a new blog next week, and they tell me they'll be offering more details about how the CS4 UI came to be.

  • Enlarging photo and saving the new look in I-Photo

After importing a JPEG photo into I-Photo, I want to enlarge a certain area of photo, example as someones face. Orginal shoot is far but after you zoom in with photo tools it's perfect. How do I save the change. Is there such option in I-photo or do I have to get another picture program? Information in this matter will be grateful.

I tried it and it works, just one thing. The area of a photo of were I would like to blow up, how do I make it to a certain size, like 3x5 all the time. Is there a setting that I have to set to were every time I crop and enlarge a portion of photo it arranges the size for me? Or do I have crop my size to 3x5 manually all the time?

  • Microsoft Pro Photo - Geotag metadata in Lightroom

Geotagging (embedding location information in image metadata) has occasionally been mentioned in posts in this forum, but I just thought I'd share my recent experiences with Microsoft Pro Photo Tools (MPPT) with those that may not be aware of its existence/capabilities.
MPPT is essentially a metadata editor with Geotagging capability - and it is free (
). Since version 2 it has supported Adobe's XMP sidecar file format. I've recently used it with the following workflow to tag my images with location info directly from a separate GPS:
    1. Whilst shooting pictures, I carry around my Garmin GPS, recording my track (optional).
    2. Back at home, I download my images into LR, automatically adding copyright metadata, etc to all files at import.
    3. I download the track information from my Garmin GPS, saving it as a GPX file.
    4. I then open up the track GPX file and the images in MPPT.
5a. Based on the date/time exif data embedded in the image file and the date/time information in the track file, MPPT automatically identifies the location of each image and displays them on a map.
5b. If you have no GPS, you can easily enter in location and fine tune on a map. For example, enter "Seattle Art Museum" and the selected images are associated with the location of the Seattle Art Museum and shown on a map for you to fine tune!
    6. With one click, MPTT then writes location metadata (Country, State, City, Location, etc) to either the original image file or the sidecar XMP (depending on user defined configuration) - I write the data to XMP.
    7. Back to Lightroom and sync metadata (one click). At that point, all the location metadata is visible within the Library module.
I was impressed how easy this all was. One day this capability may well be within LR, but until then this is an easy way to geotag your images.

Have you looked at Jeffrey Friedl's cross platform tool? http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/gps and http://regex.info/blog/2008-10-29/979

  • Export 100% quality photos with metadata?

I've spent hours searching the web and this forum but can't figure out how to do this.
    SUMMARY:
How do I export a set of photos from iPhoto '09 while preserving the photo's image quality and its metadata? I want a 100% identical copy of the photo to be exported.
    DETAILS:
I've noticed throughout this forum that when people ask how to move their photos to another computer or to use with a different photo tool, whilst preserving metadata, the normal answer is to use File-->Export. The problem, I'm finding, is that you don't get an exact copy of the photo that's in iPhoto ––OR–– you don't get the metadata included with the export, depending on which export choices you make.
    1. If you choose to Export the photo(s) in Current or Original, then you get a 100% quality photo but you don't get all the metadata: Location, Keywords, Title. (You do get the original metadata that was put there by your digicam or scanner prior to importing into iPhoto, however.)
    2. If you just drag the photo(s) out of the iPhoto window, you get an identical copy of the original without the extended metadata, as in the previous method.
    3. If you choose to Export the photo(s) in JPEG, then you can include the Location, Keyword, and Title metadata. However, the exported photo is not the same size as the original.
    - JPEG Quality: High results in photos that are about 1/2 the size of the original.
    - JPEG Quality: Maximum results in photos that are about TWICE the size of the original.
I don't really understand what it means to take a 2 MB JPEG iPhoto original from my digicam and export it in Maximum resulting in a 4 MB JPEG copy. All that extra size surely cannot be worth anything, as the best you can get is what was in the original. So you're doubling the size for no benefit. Actually, it seems likely that the copy is WORSE than the original because of lossy file-format conversion errors, similar to why it's a bad idea to convert a 128kbs AAC song to a 128kbs MP3 song in iTunes, or make a copy of a cassette tape (for those of you old enough to remember analog).
The Crux Dilemma: It appears that I can EITHER
    1. export a 100% identical copy of my photo but lose my extended metadata,
    2. export a modified (either 1/2- or Double-size) JPEG copy that has all the metadata.
This is frustrating me. My friends and I took hundreds of pictures. I've imported them into iPhoto, edited them, Keyword tagged them, GeoTagged them, and now I want to give them their 100%-quality copies of the photos, and I can't figure out how to do it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    David

Terence, thank you for your quick reply!
You basically confirmed what I found out by trial-and-error.
Unfortunately, I think the news is bad. Here's why:
A typical picture in my iPhoto library, a JPEG taken by a compact digicam, is 1.8 MB. Let's compare that to the sizes of the same picture when exported using the various options:
1.8 MB - Current or Original; - metadata not included.
11.4 MB - TIFF - lossless, all metadata included
3.1 MB - JPEG Maximum - lossy but all metadata included
0.7 MB - JPEG High - lossy but all metadata included
You wrote "For my money the best bet is the tiff". I know tiff's are the highest quality format (non-lossy), but, in my case anyway, they're 6.3 X larger.
Is it really true that the only way to move my photos out of iPhoto while preserving 100% of the quality and all the extended metadata is to increase the size of my photos over 6 times? Really?
That seems a bit ridiculous. Consider a library of 10,000 photos averaging 2 MB each (which is on the small side these days). That library would be at least 20 GB (not really considering all the additional space used by thumbnails, dupes, etc). But if I want to export all those photos in a lossless way while preserving metadata, the size will jump to over 126 GB!!
Many of us have Macs with hard drives large enough to easily handle a 20GB iPhoto library, but if that library suddenly exported itself into a 126 GB monster, that would challenge many of our hard drives.
Is there really no other way?

  • Rotated photos--fine in preview, wrong in iphoto

    Hi,
I've looked through help for this, and can't find anyone with the same problem. Can anyone help?
I imported about 500 photos from my Canon S1 using Image Capture, erased the card, and then found that the camera hadn't auto-rotated the photos (they are all portrait orientation), probably because the camera was pointed straight down.
Anyway, as these are photos of documents that I need to be able to read, I was worried about rotating them because of jpeg loss, so I used a program called PhotoToolCM to do a lossless rotation. The images now have no thumbnail in Preview, but when I open them, they have the correct orientation. However, when I import them into iPhoto, they have the wrong orientation! How do I change this without rotating and saving 500 photos? The problem is not only the waste of time, but also that rotating jpegs in iPhoto causes gradual degrading of the image, which I really want to avoid.
Many thanks to anyone who can help me out!
    pjs

By reading this Apple kb it would seem that Phototool does lossless rotation by writing to the exif. Any application that is exif aware will read it and rotate the image to be viewed by reading the exif tag. the problems is when an app is not exif aware. It seems iPhoto is not. I just did a test with Photo tool and a jpg and imported it into iPhoto. It imported in unrotated.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302669
    The kb is for tiger.
The gist is, if you want all applications to read the photo as rotated you won't be able to do the lossless rotation by writing to the exif tags because not all applications are exif aware.

  • Viewing Nokia location-tagged (geotag) photos on m...

I have a Nokia E72 which has GPS.
I installed the Nokia Location Tagger (beta) application so that taking pictures with the E72's camera will alow geo-tagging the photos (must have GPS-lock status first).
So far, I've taken a few dozen pictures on my E72 which have been geo-tagged.
I'd like to view those geo-tagged pictures on the world map.
I installed Nokia Photos (Windows software) application on my desktop PC -- the Nokia Photos doesn't seem to recognize the Nokia E72 device in the application. (Supposedly Nokia Photos has a built-in support/feature to import photos from selected Nokia cellphones when they're connected to the PC)
Anyway, I manually copied the photos from my E72 to a folder on the PC (instead of supposedly Nokia Photos should be able to do that), and then I pointed Nokia Photos to that folder where I copied the photos.
Nokia Photos was able to identify the pictures where were geo-tagged. And I could view the photos with corresponding map locations.  Ok, so this is good. However, I notice the Nokia maps being used is not so detailed (the maps used are probably the Nokia Maps 2.0 instead of the Nokia Maps 3.0).
I think with Nokia Maps 2.0, only major roads in our country the Philippines are shown, although with Ovi Maps 3.0, most streets in urban areas are quite complete and accurate. (in this case, the Nokia Photos only shows major roads, most likely from Nokia Maps 2.0).
Therefore, I decided to try using several other photo applications to see if they could read the geo-tags and locate them on the map (eg. Google Earth/Maps or MS Virtual Earth / Bing Maps etc.)
I download several geo-tagging-aware free photo software -- JetPhoto Studio, Microsoft Pro Photo Tools, Picasa and a couple of others.
Seems like all these other apps weren't able to read the geo-tagging information from the photos which had the geo-tags (tagged by Nokia Location Tagger).
Picasa was able to find only 1 of my (dozens) geo-tagged photos and showed its location correctly on Google Maps.  (JetPhoto Studio and MS Pro Photo Tools didn't find any geo-tag in my few dozen geo-tagged photos at all).  And quite strange that Picasa only noted 1 of my picture with geo-tag (Nokia Photos showed all the geo-tagged photos -- which numbered several dozens of photos).
Just wondering, is the (Nokia) geo-tagging metadata info in the JPG pictures non-standard or just that the other supposedly geo-tagging-aware photo softwares have problems reading these Nokia Location Tagger geo-tagged photos correctly?  Anyone tried any of the above programs (the above-mentioned softwares are all Windows freeware).

    d_t_a wrote:
Also, if there are lots of photos, it may take a long while to have to upload all those geo-tagged photos to Ovi, isn't it?
That depends on the upload speed of your Internet connection

  • IPhoto 08 problem:  photos in book are deleted when moved to photo toolbar

When I move a photo from one of the pages in the photo book back to the photo tool bar (or whatever it is called) at the top of the page the photo disappears rather than staying there. If I go to edit to undo the action it returns to the page vs returning to the tool bar. I've restarted iPhoto and rebuilt the iPhoto thumbnails without success. I also tried to delete the preference files (com.apple.iphoto.plist) without success as when I relaunched iPhoto it didn't dislpay my photo's. I was able to restore iPhoto by dragging the original plist back to the preference files.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to find the photos after an extensive search. I checked and they are being placed "manually" rather than by date so they should be staying where I placed them when removing them from the books page. One other odd thing is that if I try to select them for deletion from the strip above the book page they simply disappear rather than being outlined but they then magically reappear when I try to select another photo for deletion. unless someone has experienced the same issue it looks like I'll be taking advantage of my Applecare agreement.

  • HiRes photos

I have created photo pages using the conventional iPhoto / iWeb functionality. But my photos only load in low / med resolution when accessing the site.
Can I provide an option for HiRes - large size - access to the photos?

Making my own thumbnails and creating hyperlinks is quite a bit more difficult than just dragging photos into a photos template but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. You can create thumnails with iPhoto but I decided to create a workflow and I saved it as a finder plugin so I can right click on a photo and create a thumbnail on the spot. Then you drag the thumnail to your iWeb page, select it, open the Inspector, click on the hyperlink tab, and choose the file you want it linked to. If you want a caption, that will require a text box. I chose not to use captions so I avoid that step.
For the Make Thumbnail plugin, it's been a while since I made it but I remember having an issue with Automator's "make thumbnail" workflow listed under "Preview". If I recall, the thumbnails ended up relatively large (in kilobytes). But it did make them. I think I ended up doing something with the iMagine Photo tools instead. Plus I used iMagine to create several "scale image" plugins so really large photos could be scaled down to a more manageable and downloadable size.
As with a lot of things, getting everything set up takes some time. But once it's set up right, everything goes smoothly from there.

  • Suddenly jpg photos are displayed incorrectly (like overlit), also when they are downloaded which means that the files somehow get corrupted. The same photos look perfect in Safari.

Firefox displays large jpg photos incorrectly, they are all like over lit and there is a real quality loss since just right clicking on a link of the photos and downloading them also displays them incorrectly in any photo tool. Looking at the photos in Safari and downloading them there displays no quality loss. I really hope this can be fixed.
