Photo Usage

My daughter's iPad is showing I have 499 photos taking up 4.1 GB of photos on my iPad, but when I go into Photos, there are not any pictures on my iPad in Photos or Albums.  I have turned off iCloud Photo Sharing and Photo Stream.  Also, I do not have any photos sync'd on iTunes.  She needs this space to install new apps and perform Software Update.  Any suggestions?  Have iOS 8.1.3

I figured it out for my iphone. Same issue: lots of usage (1gb) to 'photos and camera' under iPhones storage stats even though I have no photos or videos on my phone in any app. Solution for me:
I went to settings - general - usage - iCloud - manage storage - select ur phone then a list of all the things to be backed up appears, specifally camera roll. Turn off camera roll backup and when it asks if u want to delete the backup say yes since obviously nothing is on ur camera roll to back up now anyway even though it says a lot like mine said 1gb mistakingly. Of course then turn it back on. Then it will update to the current real size (went to .5mb but better than 1gb). And at that point my storage in general updated my 'photos and camera' size to .5mb as well. I guess the phone's storage count reflects iCloud's figures not what actually is on the phone.
And even before this solution iTunes said I had nothing in camera storage but there was 1gb 'other'. Now it's back to normal. All these problems started when i ran out of space even thiough my iphone said i had nearly 2gb free. but then iTunes said I had 4gb 'other' and 1.3gb free (which one is right, iPhone or iTunes stats?) so I restored as new and unfortunately my iCloud stored camera roll used to restore photos were all blurry and it was a pain to get them back on camera roll correct (had to use my computer's stored photos) and it lead to these more new issues. Store ur photos on ur computer too in case iCloud does this to you. But I still had that 1gb other until I tried the above!

  • My Photos usage won't decrease, no matter how many photos & videos I delete

Ok, I was going through and cleaning up camera roll this morning, and noticed that no matter what I do, my Photos & Video usage on my 5S won't go below 9 gigabytes. Even worse, after I noticed this, I went through and deleted some more photos, and usage actually increased to 9.1 gigabytes. I am definitely not using 9 gigabytes of space, but when I go to my 'About' tab, it shows that I have 2,071 pictures and 125 videos, when I definitely don't. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I've restarted, but haven't done a reset.

    hi bro ,
u need to go anther photo folder shown delete, please see my photo as below attached, the new ios 8 add temporary deleted files when you delete your video or photo will automatic store at recent deleted folder, that have potential to recover when you want too which maximum 30days duration stay on this folder then eliminate when on time. you need to delete again as confirmation at this folder. below shown the temporary folder , hope this can help you out

  • Photo usage being strange

I have a habit of collecting nice pictures for wallpaper, I have only got over 800 photos but my usage shows that i have used 23GB of memory and 14GB were under photos, I was really confused so I uploaded them to my computer then deleted all of them off my phone. I went back to check the usage which haven't changed from before, I also restarted my iphone which ended up with the same result.
    Please help me with this.

  • Photo usage problems

Cannot use pictures on my iPad with other websites to post or attach. Had been able to prior to my iOS update. Could this problem be a result of the new update? If so, or not how can this be corrected? Ex of the problem: I cannot post pictures to facebook it reads an error and just last week I was able to. I cannot attach a photo to my school website for an online course either. Does anyone know how to solve this???

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IPhone shows no photo usage, iTunes still shows 4 GB of photos?

I'm currently switching all of my music, photos, etc. from my desktop computer to my laptop, and as I was switching everything over, I noticed a huge amount of photos on my iPhone. So I deselected all the folders and disabled photos from being synced onto my phone, and it still shows that 4.16 GB of photos are still supposedly on my phone. Could this be data left over from my other computer?

Interesting.  I would try restarting the phone and maybe reboot the computer or close itunes on the computer and reopen it and see what it then says about photos

  • How do I find the history of sent photos in aperture?

Where do I find the list of where I have sent a photo directly from Aperture.  I am wondering if I sent a photo to a certain email and I would like to look it up to see if I already sent it.

Great question and one of Aperture's strengths:
New ('+' icon in toolbar) > Smart Album > Add Rule (upper right of smart album dialog) > select Photo Usage > place check-mark in box at left of rule > set to: 'has been' and 'Emailed' in the drop-down menus.
    That should do it.

  • Hidden & Recently deleted Albums in Photos  on IOS 8

Having just updated to IOS8 and lost iPhoto without warning I am trying to get my head round the new features in Photos.
If I want to clear space how can I do that if the deleted items are now moved into a Recently Deleted Album?
    And
If the point of the Hidden Album is to hide photos how do you stop someone looking at them if all you have to do is tap on the album and it opens?
Sorry if I am missing the obvious!
And does anyone know of a replacement photo editing app please! I need to have something where I can add titles, at my age I will never remember where the heck I took the photo otherwise!

OK, I've got a similar, but more irritating, problem.
My iPad Air 16GB had too many photos on, using up nearly 4GB of space.  So I archived these photos and got rid of all but about 25.
In the next couple of weeks I was a lot better at housekeeping my photos and deleted them every couple of days.
Next time I wanted to do an iTunes sync, I noticed Photos was still taking up about 4 GB.  Hmm, so I had a look on the net and saw the recently deleted photos "feature" and how to deal with it.  Great I said to myself and went to the "recently deleted" folder where it had only about 40 photos.  So i deleted these i.e. ALL the photos in "recently deleted".  But still iTunes and the iPad were reporting photo usage as around 4GB.  Grrr
So I backed up my iPad, reset it to factory settings and restored.  Still 4GB being reported as photos, still an empty "recently deleted" folder, just the 25 photos I'd saved.  Huh?????
So I fired up Syncios - lo and behold it says there are about 2,300 photos in recently deleted.  But Syncios won't let me delete them and I can't see them on my iPad or on iTunes to delete them.  So what the **** do I do?????

  • Layout change causes photos to be discarded

I love having a book making tool built right into Lightroom and Adobe has done a commendable job on the first release of the Book module. So far the interface has generally worked well for me. However...
Try this: Start with an auto-layout with 3 photos per page. Then, change one of the pages from 3 photos to 2 photos per page... Where did one of your photos go? Upon  investigation, you'll notice that Lightroom randomly picks one of your photos to discard and does not place it in a new page or anywhere useful. It just gets dropped without a trace! Unless you're very aware of what is going on, you could quickly make a book with many missing photos.
This could be better handled in a number of ways, for example by automatically adding a new page for the dropped photo, or floating the dropped photo in the grey area outside of the page. In fact, the grey area could be very useful as a "working area" for shuffling photos around by drag & drop. Additionally, an animation could be used to show what's happening when the layout changes and a photo gets bumped off.
Also, and perhaps this is a bug - sometimes when changing from a 3-photo layout that only has 2 active photos to a 2-photo layout,  the second photo gets bumped off even though there's an available spot for it in the new layout. The layout engine appears to sometimes prioritize the empty photo area over an actual photo - not good! I've also had instances when a photo get dropped when changing from a 3-photo layout to a different 3-photo layout. Very frustrating.
The photo usage count in the filmstrip is sort of helpful to find  photos that were discarded but in my opinion, too disconnected from the layout area to make for a seamless working experience. As a side note, it should be possible in the filmstrip to locate where a photo is used in the book and vice versa.
Other than this, the Book module is a great start at book making from Adobe.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Your issue seems to be with the underlying file system, not with iPhoto.
    Some background:
Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
You can move photos between Events, you can rename Events, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Event Name using the Info Pane, the Event Folder in iPhoto Library/Originals will also have the new name.
When you move files between Events they are also moved on the HD.
Couldn't convert path /Users/dominika/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2001/Inne/070_RockyNeckCT14.jpg" to an FSRef to put on the pasteboard.
means that, for some reason, the file system is unable to execute that move. (That's the reference to the FSRef). However, iPhoto thinks the file was moved, hence the !.
I've simply never seen this issue reported here before. Is everything else on your Mac working correctly?
    First off:
Check your HD for errors with Disk Utility, see if that reports anything.

  • How can I control what music is stored on my iPhone?

Apple has decided that all the music I purchase from them is going to be constantly changing disorganized mess of deleted songs and placeholder albums and is controlled by it's own zombie scheduling. I makes me very, VERY angry. I see two options, rip all my iTunes purchases as MP3s, or buy and Android (really not serious about that, but this has been an issue since IOS7). Any other last ditch strategies I should consider???

Sounds like somethings very wrong ...
If capacity is a constraint, and things don't add up for you, you might be carrying a large photo collection in your Camera Roll -- more so than you may think.  There seems to be an issue with some users where the photo usage does not add up between what is displayed vs. the true amount of storage being taken by photos.  Some users resolved this by:
    (a) Temporarily turn off automatic date/time:  Settings/ General/ Date&Time/ Set Automatically/ OFF.
    (b) Manually set your iPhone's date and time to somewhere in or before August 2014.
    (c) Go to your Photos app and look in your "Recently Deleted" folder.  You may find a LOT of photos there that weren't before.
    (d) Re-delete all the recently deleted photos from this folder.
    (e) Go back to (a) and set your date&time automatically.
That may be your first problem.
You may also have "All Songs" turned on, which shows you all songs you've purchased even if they're not actually on your iPhone.  Go to:
Settings/ iTunes & App Store and then turn the "Show All" option OFF for both Music and Video.
Now, if you had the "Show All" enabled and selected one of these iCloud songs, they will download to your iPhone and you may have a heck of a time removing them.  If you've done this, the best method I've found is:
    (a) Set the iPhone for Manually Manage Music & Video (sounds like you already do this).
    (b) While connected to iTunes, open the contents of the iPhone and select all songs and delete them.
    (c) Manually initiate a local (not iCloud) backup of your iPhone to your computer.
    (d) Restore the iPhone, then select the backup.  Let your phone re-populate all the apps (should be no music)
    (e) Disconnect and check the Music app, verify that there truly is no music.  If there is, go to:
Settings/ General/ Usage/ Manage Storage/ Music, then swipe across "All Songs" (from right to left) and select Delete.
    (f) Reset your iPhone, or do another backup and restore.
That should clear out all music ... now re-populate your music, either manually or auto-sync all songs or partial (i.e. sync to selected playlists, artists, etc.)  If you want to autosync just part of your library, you can.  My library exceeds 100GB yet I autosync about 42GB of that to my 64GB iPhone. This is done by defining what I want synced via a series of playlists, some of which auto-populate based on my ratings and what I play (i.e. some songs drop out for awhile once I listen to them) as well as static playlist where I can manually place complete albums I want to remain.  The first auto-sync takes an hour or two, but subsequent auto-syncs only take a matter of minutes -- the whole thing doesn't re-sync each time, just what changed.

  • ITunes vs iPhone 6 Plus storage

I Have had the 4S, 5S, and now the 6 plus and I noticed that in iTunes it shows 2 oddities. in iTunes it shows 1.81 GB available on my 6 plus and total photo usage of 1.28 GB with 621 photos but when I look at available space in the settings on my phone shows only 211 MB available and I have less than 500 photos.  I have also started getting the storage almost full message a lot more since I got my 6 plus never saw it on my 5S or 4S.  Any ideas on these issues?

There is apparently a bug with photo storage. The following document explains how to find and delete photos that may still be taking up storage when they shouldn't be: Why does my iOS device say I have more photos than I can find?

  • Export based on folder content

Hello  I've a folder and sub-folders on my Mac with about 3500 pictures in it - I'd like to re-export all those pictures from Aperture - what I was wondering is whether there is a way to basically create a file list with all the pictures in those specific folders on the Mac and pass that list somehow to Aperture to make the selection of the images that need to be exported again.   Hope the community has some solutions - thanks

If the versions you exported are named by their version name it would be possible to create an Applescript that would first get the names of the files and then call Aperture and export those images again.
If the version names were changed on export it will be a lot more difficult or possibly impossible to do this.
One other difficulty will be setting up the export preset that you want to  use. Were all these images all exported with the same preset?
How were the images organized in Aperture? Is there no identifying feature that would let you find  these 3500 images in Aperture? There is a smart folder rule under Photo Usage - Has been exported, perhaps you could use this along with some other rule to find the images in Aperture?
    regards

  • 'Other' folder keeps increasing

    Hey guys,
Why do my 'other' folder keeps increasing? I just do normal web browsing on my Macbook and school work.
For example, when I placed the computer to sleep, it is sitting on 17.65gb. When I wake it up, it will jump to 19.54gb. Doing normal web browsing or opening applications will increase it also. Same thing with my photos usage amount.
Is there a way to stop it from eating my hard drive? Why is it doing this? What should I do?!?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender mdworker -o -k Sender mds | grep -v boxd | tail | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

  • Preventing duplicate Exports

    Hello all,
I recently started using Aperture 3.4.5 and i like it a lot.
The only thing that is a bit frustrating is the fact that when I export additional files to my NAS and select already exported files, aperture just exports them without asking to overwrite the old ones or skip them. It just exports the files as "picture345 (1).jpg"
This means I have to manually delete the files afterwards.
Is there a way to prevent exporting pictures that were already exported.
Or at least get a confirmation box to select "overwrite" or "skip"
    Regards,
    Schraepen Jurgen

    Jurgen,
you cannot prevent the export of duplicates in the "Export" panel, but you could filter the images befor exporting.
If you select a set of images for export, you could filter your selection; for example create a smart album with only images that not yet have been exported:
In the Smart Settings HUD click "Add Rule", select a "Photo Usage" rule, and set it to "has not been exported".
If you export from this album, only images not yet exported will be included.
    Regards
