Photo will diappear from the iPhoto library once I disconnect the external hard drive.

I backed up Photo Booth from my macbook before it recover now I am not able to upload the photos into the iPhoto library.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

How to explain.  OK 1st all photos are visible in my iPhoto library; however, some are stored on hard drive and some are stored on external.  All can be marked or unmarked in itunes, but none of the photos stored on the external drive will sync to my iPad.  Anybody know what's up with that?

What really cheeses me off here is that Apple isn't allowing users enough customization.  With each update of iTunes (and the OS and iOS) we're forced to give up something that worked well for the way we want to use the app and make do with fewer (and lamer) options.  If Apple keeps this up, they're going to start losing customers fast.  I mean if this isn't fixed soon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up on iTunes, and then I'll probably go ahead and get a Galaxy when I need to replace my iPhone.
What I don't understand about how they won't let users delete the list of available podcasts now is why?  How is this making it a better program?  I can understand that not all users are capable enough to right-click on a feed and select "Show all available episodes", so I can see why they want the complete list to be the default (and, surprise, it already was).  But to not give users the option to delete that list?  It's inconsiderate because it makes navigating feeds with a large back catalogue really frustrating.  I'm flabbergasted that no one at Apple considered all the podcast feeds that keep hundreds of episodes available when they removed this feature.  It smacks of rank incompetence.
What improvement were they trying to make here anyway?  There was nothing wrong to my mind about how podcasts were managed in previous versions.  Whatever improvement they were trying to make here, they should have realized that many users would at least want the option to keep things the way they were.
And reverting to a previous version is no solution.  I can't sync my iPhone with the new iOS without this update, and (while I do have some issues--specifically how you can't play podcasts in the Music app anymore) I do like the new iOS.

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

To add to Niel's comment bear in mind that if you have a backup copy on an external HD and later delete the orignals on your Mac HD you will then only have one copy - so no backup.
If the pictures are precious you should have at least two copies, and ideally another copy kept off site,

  • How do I copy an iPhoto library, which is on an external hard drive, onto a new external hard drive?

I'm running out of space on my external hard drive, so I was advised to buy one with triple the amount of space.  So, I need to copy my current iphoto library, which is on an external hard drive, onto a new external hard drive.  I thought I could just drag and drop it in, but that doesn't seem to be working.

Make sure the external drive is formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled) and then drag the iPhoto Library to that drive using the Finder.
Then double click the library in its new location to open it in iPhoto. Test it thoroughly, if it is working, before deleting the original library on the internal drive.
To check the format of the drive, see (it says Aperture, but the same applies to iPhoto):  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture

My Macbook air flash had gone for a month and I saw Apple's Macbook air flash storage drive replacement program. I'm not sure whether that program is still available for the broken device or not. Now, I'm booting from the external hard drive. Warranty has gone in October 2013..
I want to send back my macbook air back to apple store. The problem is that I bought it from US and now, I'm using it in Myanmar. If the program is free of charge for my device, it's worth trying to send back to US. Since mine is broken, I'm afraid Apple will take charges for reparing.
So, if anyone having the same problem as me, I would like to get suggestion....
    Thank you!!

I have no idea about how to handle the international aspect of your question.
But here is the Apple writeup about the problem and the remedy.  Maybe that will help you.

  • Hard Drive crashed. How do I retrieve my old iPhoto files from the external hard drive I had used to backup?

My computer was logged in using my Apple ID.  I was out of town when my hard drive crashed, so my wife took it in to get replaced.  When doing so the person at the Apple store helping her had her create a new Apple ID to use with the computer.  Now, when I open time machine I don't see anything from before this hard drive crashed.  How do I get access to my old photos from iPhoto that should have been backed up on the external hard drive?

Sorry I am unclear where the backup is located.. On a time capsule??
Recovery of iphoto library you need to use pondini.
    Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
He has a separate page for iphoto.

  • How to save iPhoto library (currently on partition of external hard drive) on to iMac's internal hard drive

I have my photos stored on an external hard drive (Maxtor). The external hard drive has been split into two partitions, with the photos in one and the rest in another. This was because my (very) old Mac did not have space in its internal hard drive and I set it up so that the photos were only saved on to the external drive.
Now I have a new iMac (with OS x 10.8.2 Mountain Lion) with more space, I'd like to save the photos on the internal drive and back them up on the external drive.
I have tried various things such as  saving the iphoto library on the desktop and then dragging and dropping it into the iPhoto icon, holding down the Option key. None of this has worked and I only have 'fingernail' copies of the photos - the 'volumes' only appear to be on the external hard drive. When the external drive is not connected it says that the volumes cannot be found.
I have tried saving a new version of the iphoto library with a different name and directing the computer to that but that did not work. Perhaps it is an issue with the volume, or the library the computer/iphoto is selecting?
Am not sure what to do next. Do I somehow need to set up my external hard drive differently as it still seems to be configured to only save photos on there, or save iphoto library in a different place?  Any help would be much appreciated.

I have tried various things such as  saving the iphoto library on the desktop and then dragging and dropping it into the iPhoto icon,
Never do this - this imports one iPhoto library into the new one which does not work and creates a massive mess
    holding down the Option key.
If you depress the option key and launch iPhoto you get a select library window - you use this to select a different iPhoto library or if you have moved the existing iPhoto library to select its new location
When the external drive is not connected it says that the volumes cannot be found.
This is a symptom of a referenced library which is strongly not recommended - in the iPhoto preferences is the preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" checked (default) or have you unchecked it?
I have tried saving a new version of the iphoto library with a different name and directing the computer to that but that did not work.
What does not work about this?
the way to move an iPhoto library is to simp;y drag it intact as a single entity to the new location and to depress the option key, launch iPhoto and select the new location
However if you have a referenced library then you need to post back for more information

There are a number of posts related to access issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
    Search for: security
    Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    Click OK
     To disable Windows Search:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name. From the AirPort Utility, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab. On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • How do I transfer my playlists to a new computer without transferring all my music from the external hard drive?

I would like to transfer my itunes to a new computer but only see instructions to transfer all my music over including the playlists.  All my music is currently stored on an external hard drive because it is a very large library of over 30GB so don't really want the music taking space on my laptop but want to have the playlists transferred over and be able to access my music library on the new computer through the external hard drive.  Any idea how to do this?

As Chris says... but if the media is on an external drive as above then you also need to make sure the external drive has the same drive letter on the system you are moving to or iTunes won't be able to find the files.

I am a photographer so It's safe and convinent to store pictures in my external hard drive.
I have 1TB external hard drive and I've been using for about a year and never dropped it or didn't do any thing to harm the hardware.
Today as always I connected the ext-hard drive to my mac and click on the icon.
All of my pictures and files are gone accept one folder that has program.
So I pulled up the external hard drive's info it says the date is still there, but somehow i can not view them in the finder.
I really need help how to fix this issue!

  • How do I retrieve my iphoto library from the Time Machine back-up drive, when the original iphoto library was on a separate external hard drive that has crashed?

I recently backed up my iMAC and Simpletech external hard-drive to a 1 TB WD Passport  external hard drive, using Time Machine's back-up utility.  Today, I tried to access my iphoto library from the back-up drive, but received a message saying "the iPhoto library is a Time Machine back up, and so cannot be used as the main library.  Relaunch iPHoto with options key held down to choose another library."  Since my Simpletech died on me, what other iPhoto library is it expecting me to access?  I know approximately 169 GB were backed up, and my iPhoto library is roughly 54 GB.
    Angie in Charlotte

Thanks.  I will try going through TM.  Since my Simpletech is on the way out, I'll be plugging in a new external hard drive (other than the back-up drive) and trying to restore the library to the new drive.  Any advice or warning if this is NOT the right thing to do?
Meanwhile, that is a great tip to do an alternate back-up using a different means.  It's been tough to figure out how to "preserve access" to digital images and files for posterity, knowing the hardware will always fail/obsolesce sooner or later, and that "clouds" are only as good as their consistent and reliable accessibility.  Upping the odds with redundancy will help dull the edge of my "access anxiety", though logically, it can never relieve it.  Will look into
