Photoalbum on Tomcat 5.0
In our case we are not using Jedeveloper or OAS. All work is done on notepad/command line. Doing Photoalbum JSP application my understanding was once I copy all JSP and change CLASSPATH of Tomcat 5.0 to include oracle provided zip in sqlj and ord/lib folder the application should work. I get errors seems Tomcat can not compile
orcale custom classes. Anyone with this problem?
The follwoing is the error:
I copied all jsp files in jsp-examples directory of tomcat and copied orcale supplied jar files listed in earlier email in common/lib and copied PhotoAlbumBean.class in WEB-INF/classes directory. This is all is needed to do deploy application in Tomcat. I am using jsp-sample folder as I am really developing/learning capabilities of Intermedia at this time and will create seperate application later.
Let me know any thing I am doing wrong? Thanks.

Problem with JNI and Tomcat (and threads???)
Howdy,
Here is the issue - I would like some help on HOW to debug and fix this problem:
2 test use cases -
1)
a)User goes to Login.jsp, enters user and password
b) User submits to LoginServlet
c) login calls JNI code that connects to a powerbuilder(Yes I know this is ugly) PBNI code module (this is a .dll) that authenticates the user with the database
d) the servlet then redirects to another .jsp page
e) user then submits to LogoutServlet - also a JNI call to a powerbuilder PBNI code module
f) REPEAT STEPS a-e over a few times (inconsistent) and then the call to the JNI code hangs
2)
a) users does NOT goto Login.jsp, but rather calls LoginServlet and passes the userid and password as GET parms
b) user does NOT get redirected to a page (redirect code commented out)
c) user calls LogoutServlet
d) repeat steps a-c at will and no failure, no hanging
The only difference is that in case 1 (with JSP), there is a redirect and it afffected the JNI call by haniging inside JNI code.
In case 2 (without JSP) there is still a JNI call, but it does not hang. In addition, when it hangs and I stop Tomcat, the logs show cleanup entries that say:
Oct 19, 2004 9:17:09 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
Oct 19, 2004 9:17:10 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
Oct 19, 2004 9:17:11 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
Is this a threading issue in Tomcat???
On would assume that the JNI code is not cleaning up after itself, but I don't believe this is the case,
and even if it was, why would I get the tomcat log cleanup entries above???
What do those cleanup entries imply about the state of Tomcat????hi ,
I met the same problem this morning, and searched the www.google.com in order to solve it, as a result, your article was shown on my screen. :)
Till now I have read some technical information and solved my problems. Maybe the solution be useful to you:
==============================
error message : (Environment : Tomcat 5, Windows 2003, Mysql5)
2006-3-29 11:53:48 org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
message: Waiting for 2 instance(s) to be deallocated
==============================
cause: the number of connection to database exceeded.another word,too many connections.
==============================
solution: close the connection when it becomes useless for your program. :)

Web Service Security is not working when migrating application from Tomcat
Hi,
We have a application running successfully in tomcat6 It calls a Webservice call through TIBCO BW interface.
When we deployed the same WAR file in Weblogic 10.3.2, it gives me a error on Prefix[ds] not able to locate namespace URI not found error.
IN Tomcat, its a existing application uses AxilUtility to get the soap messages after signing document for bothe encyption and decryption.
Please anybody help me out, is there any other jars needs to be locate in Weblogic to run this application. Its fine with Tomcat and gives error in Weblogic10.3.2
Please help me out
Thanks in advanceHi Rajkumar,
Thanks for you reply. Please let me now if you have any ideas..thnks a lot....

HOWTO in the Tomcat 5 documentation bundle for more detailed
instructions):
* If your JDK version 1.3 or prior, download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or
later, and put the JAR files into "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext".
* Execute:
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
the keystore itself.
By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

By defining this element, means that every manager will be changed.
So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
A cluster has the following parameters:
className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
in case of multiple ethernet cards.
auto means that address becomes
InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
false means to replicate the session after each request.
false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
<%
HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
map.put("key","value");
%>
replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
* Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return. This is the same as the 'synchronous' setting except it uses a pool of sockets, hence it is multithreaded. This is the fastest and safest configuration. To use this, also increase the nr of tcp threads that you have dealing with replication.
* Synchronous means that the thread that executes the request, is also the
thread the replicates the data to the other nodes, and will not return until all
nodes have received the information.
* Asynchronous means that there is a specific 'sender' thread for each cluster node,
so the request thread will queue the replication request into a "smart" queue,
and then return to the client.
The "smart" queue is a queue where when a session is added to the queue, and the same session
already exists in the queue from a previous request, that session will be replaced
in the queue instead of replicating two requests. This almost never happens, unless there is a
large network delay.

When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.
A session is replicated if and only if all the conditions are met:
1. useDirtyFlag is true or setAttribute or removeAttribute has been called AND
2. a session exists (has been created)
3. the request is not trapped by the "filter" attribute
The filter attribute is to filter out requests that could not modify the session,
hence we don't replicate the session after the end of this request.
The filter is negative, ie, anything you put in the filter, you mean to filter out,
ie, no replication will be done on requests that match one of the filters.
The filter attribute is delimited by ;, so you can't escape out ; even if you wanted to.
filter=".*\.gif;.*\.js;" means that we will not replicate the session after requests with the URI
ending with .gif and .js are intercepted.
The deployer element can be used to deploy apps cluster wide.
Currently the deployment only deploys/undeploys to working members in the cluster
so no WARs are copied upons startup of a broken node.
The deployer watches a directory (watchDir) for WAR files when watchEnabled="true"
When a new war file is added the war gets deployed to the local instance,
and then deployed to the other instances in the cluster.
When a war file is deleted from the watchDir the war is undeployed locally
and cluster wide

Error connecting to an EJB 3.0 Remote on OC4J 10.1.3.2 from Tomcat
Hi, I want to connect to a Remote Session Bean running on the OC4J 10.1.3 and it doesn´t work.
I have connected to it from a java standalone application using:
public static void main(String [] args) {
try {
final Context context = getInitialContext();
SessionEJB sessionEJB = (SessionEJB)context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/SessionEJB");
System.out.println(sessionEJB.mergeEntity(""));
System.out.println( "hola" );
} catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
private static Context getInitialContext() throws NamingException {
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
// Standalone OC4J connection details
env.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "oracle.j2ee.naming.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory" );
env.put( Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "oc4jadmin" );
env.put( Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "passw" );
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/ejb3jar");
return new InitialContext( env );
with this application-client.xml file:
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
<application-client xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/application-client_1_4.xsd" version="1.4" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee">

<ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>

<ejb-link>SessionEJB</ejb-link>

thats works fine, but when I try to use the same solution from a jsf proyect running on a Tomcat 5.5.20, it fails with this error:

MauricioHi, Rick
Thanks for your help.
I deleted de application-client.xml file, added the following lines to the web.xml file:
<ejb-ref>
<ejb-ref-name>ejb/SessionEJB</ejb-ref-name>
<ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
<remote>ar.com.eds.ejb3.model.SessionEJB</remote>
</ejb-ref>
and now I´m using oracle.j2ee.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory
there is no error, and it doesn´t throw any exception but the following line returns null.
SessionEJB sessionEJB = (SessionEJB)context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/SessionEJB");
Its seems the lookup method finds the remote ejb because it doesn´t fail, but it returns null.
Any idea what is wrong?

Problem when rendering a report in BI Publisher deployed on Apache Tomcat
Hello for all.
First, I am going to tell you technical specifications about the software where I have deployed BI Publisher:
1. OS: Windows XP SP3
2. JDK and JRE: 1.6.0_24
3. Apache Tomcat: 5.5.33 (Set JVM Max Memory in 768MB)
4. BI Publisher EE: 10.1.3.4.1
I have deployed BI Publisher on Apache Tomcat without any problem, I uploaded Report files (both XDO and RTF), and I can see the reports in XML output format, but when I try to see the reports rendered by using the rtf file I have configured, BI Publisher shows me an Error; I checked the Apache Tomcat log and the following error is reported:

I checked that the url http://localhost:8080/xmlpserver/SubTemplates/sub-template-parameters.rtf would be accesible via Internet Explorer, and It is accesible.
I am glad if you can tell me what could be the cause of the error.
Thanks.Finally, I stop working in the implementation of BIP over Apache Tomcat; I installed OC4J 10.1.3.5.0 (standalone installation) and I deployed BIP on it.
It seems the error I wrote in last post has been fixed, but actually I am obtaining the following error with the deployment on OC4J:

SET CLASSPATH=.;D:\j2sdk\lib\tools.jar;D:\tomcat\common\lib\servlet.jar
but at before, i can run it at Tomcat 3.2.

pls help, thank you very much!This is a new problem with jdk1.4 when compiling with tomcat.
The solution is to ensure that any classes in WEB-INF/classes are in a package structure and the relevant jsp calls the same using the package name.

"Unable to open config file" Error when starting tomcat
hi all,
Here is the output from two of the log files when I start tomcat4 on my linux box. I have configured the mod_jk on the tomcat side.
From the output of the second log file, it seems that the ajp13 worker I defined was started successfully. What I don't understand is the following:
1) In catalina.out, where des the line 'Unable to open config file' come from? Which config file?
2) Tomcat4 is supposed to generate a mod_jk.conf automatically, but I don't see any file generated in 'conf/auto/'.

I think the 'config file' mentioned in the error log is the mod_jk.conf.
On Jason Hunter's tomcat4 guide, it says don't use the tomcat4 RPM to installed. What is the difference bettween the RPM version and the tar.gz version? The only difference I can think of is that in the RPM version, the conf directory is in the 'etc/tomcat4/conf'. Could it be the reason that tomcat4 cannot read the config file? But it has no problem reading the server.xml though. -
How to log in Tomcat administration page
downloaded apache-tomcat-6.0.10
OS:window xp
Tomcat's servlets/JSPs execute fine, but Tomcat denies access to the Tomcat Manager, Tomcat Administration to log in for web application with database connection.
The respective webapps and manager.xml and admin.xml are available and seem to look fine.
Tomcat even seems to log in my default user

How can I port an existing Tomcat (JSP) application in SAP Netweaver 2004s
Hi All,
I want to port an existing JSP application (using Tomcat as Web server) in SAP Web AS 6.40.
Please any one suggest me.
Eagerly looking forward to your reply......
Thanks and Regards
Avijit DharHi,
The maximum number of work processes depends on several things like the below.
1) Majorly on Your primary Memory
2) Hardware capacity
3) Operating systems
4) SAP version as well...
You need to calculate the work processes with your primary memory.
Every work process should take 150 mb space on memory.. so you need to increase the work processes that should be campatible with your primary memory.
And please read the OSS notes as suggested by our frnds then go ahead with your rquirement.

Serious connection pool problem on Tomcat
Hi,
We are deploying our JSF creator-made app onto Tomcat 1.5. We set up our JNDI datasource on Tomcat (using the i-net driver ).
Initially the pages load ok but after a short period of time we are getting these errors:
Initialization Failure: javax.faces.FacesException: org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot get a connection, pool exhaustedWe believe that somehow the Creator-generated code is NOT freeing up connections in the connection pool.
We think that when the afterRenderResponse() methods in the beans call rowset.close() this is NOT returning the connections to the pool. Can someone, hopefully a Sun Engineer confirm that the rowset.close() code in afterRenderResponse() returns the connection behind the rowset to the connection pool.
Could this be a driver issue? We are using the i-net driver not the DataDirect one, but this should implement the full API.
This is a very serious problem for us.
regards,
johndo you have any example code you could post? I have a Spring/JSC tutorial on this forum. Just search for Spring and you should find it. It you need something more, I'll try to give you some help...time provided.
am i
right in thinking that you use the forms designer to
lay out your pages and just put your own stuff in the
bean constructor?Close...but not everything goes in the constructor.
>
One thing that may have caused a problem is we have
just noticed that in one of our most commonly hit
pages this line:
dataTable1Model.setDataCacheKey("com.sun.datacache.my_
page.my_rowset");
featured the WRONG "my_page" jsp page but the correct
rowset name "my_rowset". The page DID load correctly
and run correctly, though. Could this cause problems
with connection pooling? Anyone?I wouldn't think so, but it depends on how Creator builds the code. -
Help: Connecting Tomcat to CA-IDMS Using JDBC Type 4 Drivers (JNDI)
Hi there,
I have a rather interesting / complex problem......creating a connection to CA-IDMS from Tomcat using JDBC type 4 drivers (CA provide the type 4 driver).
We have a zSeries 9 IBM mainframe running CA-IDMS r16.1, and I need to connect to the IDMS from Tomcat (running on Linux) using the JDBC Type 4 drivers provided by CA.
At this stage I am struggling with the actual setup and configuration of Tomcats server.xml and web.xml files. These are the files where the JDBC configuration is set (I think). I have to setup the CA-IDMS part of the configuration, but that is a different problem. Basically there is a TCP/IP listener on the IDMS, waiting for incoming connections from the JDBC type 4 driver.
I set up a Tomcat to MySQL connection using MySQL Connector / J, which is a similar kind of process to what I am trying to achieve with IDMS. MySQL connector / J came with a jar file which is placed in Tomcats lib folder, and then the JDBC setup for the web application is created in Tomcat's server.xml and web.xml files. You can then connect to the MySQL database using JSP and the configured JDBC driver / connection. The CA-IDMS Server comes with an idmsjdbc.jar file, which I think is the JDBC typr 4 driver. I think it needs to be placed in the Tomcat /lib folder, but I dont know how to set up the configuration.
There is a JDBC DriverManager which allows JDBC drivers to connect to CA-IDMS. The DriverManager recognises the following syntax:
jdbc:idms://hostname:port/database
This allows the JDBC driver running within Tomcat to connect to the IDMS which is running on the IDM mainframe. CA IDMS r16 supports direct connections from the Type 4 JDBC driver to the Central Version on IDMS. "hostname" is the DNS name or IP address of the machine where the CV is running, and "port" is the IP port that was specified for the listener PTERM (setup on the IDMS side).
There is a caidms.properties file for the JDBC driver, which is used to specify user ID, password, and optional accounting information. It can also be used to specify physical connection information, allowing an application to connect to a CA-IDMS database without requiring the definition of an ODBC style data source. However, I dont know where to place this file within the Tomcat setup.
There is also an IdmsDataSource class. I dont know where to configure this or how to set it up; the CA-IDMS Server manual states the following:
This class implements the JDBC DataSource interface. It is used with an application server (Tomcat) providing Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) naming service to establish a connection to a CA IDMS database. IdmsDataSource properties conform to the Java Beans naming conventions and are implicitly defined by public setter and getter methods. For example, the description property, which is required for all DataSource implementations, is set using the setDescription(String) method. The application server may use the java.lang.reflection methods to discover DataSource properties and provide an interface to set them, or may simply require that they are defined in some configuration file. IdmsDataSource properties are used to specify the connection parameters. These properties are the equivalent of the DriverPropertyInfo attributes described in the previous section and can be used to completely define the parameters needed to connect to a database. Like a URL, an IdmsDataSource object can also reference an ODBC style data source name, where the connection parameters are defined in the configuration file on Linux.
Is there anyone that can try to point me in the right direction to setting up the JDBC connection? I am totally new to Java and so the instructions are not making much sense at the moment. Any help, hints, tips ..anything will be greatly appreciated as I have just hit a brick wall here. I can't find much to do with setting up the CA-IDMS Server JDBC type 4 driver online either....if anyone can point me to some resources that would also be extremely useful.
Kind regards
JpYou say you've managed to get the JDBC driver working
in an application but not in a JSP. You also say that
the error you get is
"com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver".
I'd be willing to bet that the exception that you have
got is a ClassNotFoundException. I.E. your application
server hasn't found the JDBC driver classes. The
application server probably doesn't use your current
CLASSPATH to look for classes. It will be setup within
the application server in some way and you'll need to
check your app server documentation to see how it is
done.
Try replacing
e.printStackTrace();with
e.printStackTrace(out);to get a full stack trace of your error.
ColTried it. Got this error when I tried to run the JSP.
Incompatible type for method. Can't convert javax.servlet.jsp.JspWriter to java.io.PrintWriter.
e.printStackTrace(out);
I'm currently using Apache Tomcat 4.0.3 as my JSP/Servlet Container.
I'm also using Type 4 MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver version 2.0 on my NT4.0 Server.
Do I need to set my JDBC driver in my container? if so, how do I do that?
