Photobook Editing

I would like to really customize my photo book. It there anyway to change frames, add clip art etc... such as for a child's baby book. The canned themes are not good enough, and I have not discovered any answers in the manual and instructional.
Thank you... Jim

No - what you see is what you get
You can move frames around but it is not quick or easy and in some layouts of some themes they flip from portrait to landscape based on the photo places - but you have very limited control
See Liz Castro's web page for a complete set of samples of each layout for each theme - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/
And you can to a custom layout in other programs and do a print to PDF using the send PDF to iPhoto option to do any custom page youwant - see Old Toad's tutorial #19 for instructions - http://web.mac.com/toad.hall/OldToadsTutorials/No._19.html - note that while he titles is creating a custom text page it is not limited to that - you can create as complicated a page as you want with any contents that you want using this method

I got a error that says Localize in Aperture when trying to buy a book
    anyone knows it?

    Hello,
I had the same problem in Aperture. The reason was that I had a wrong answer to my account questions.
Ended up calling the Apple Support hotline for this, but I will share my solution for you guys as well.
What you need to do is the following: Log into your account on appleid.apple.com
Then update your security answers. What is my first pet´s name etc.
The Apple site does not, however, tell you that you have to use at least 6 characters in the answer. I had the problem that my first pet´s name was only 5 characters long. This was the problem for me.
When all the security-questions are answered with at least 6 characters (including spaces) and I presume you have a password that is also at least 6 characters and a correct adress, then you can quit Aperture, open it back up and try your photobook purchase again.
    Worked for me at least.
The procedure for me was this:
Finished the photobook edit in Aperture.
Then pressed "buy book" in Aperture (I use english as a language in all software)
You are prompted to log in with your apple id and type password two times.
You must also answer the first security-question "Name of first pet?"
In my case the answer I had used only contained 5 characters, so I could not proceed from there, but when just typing the
type of my first car, which is my second security-question the order process did proceed to ask for credit card data.
When this is done, the system will halt when trying to save your delivery-adress (either when setting use credit -card adress as
delivery-adress or in next step. The error-message is then just "Please try later" which is not helpful at all.
Then you can only press cancel upon you will get to the order-page anyway. Try buy here and then you will get this Localize error.
Hope my solution above help you guys!
    By the way:
I am using a 2012 Mac Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Aperture 3.4.3, but this should fix for any version I guess...
Apple should really update their requirements on the security-answers on appleid.apple.com!
    Best regards, Henrik

  • Edit in iPhoto when in photobook mode when have external editor

I have not figured out a way to edit in iPhoto when in photobook mode. No matter what, it jumps me to the external editor. Sometimes I just want to crop my photo into a portrait orientation from landscape or vice versa so the photobook treats it that way for layout purposes. Especially with the copying issue going on now with an external editor, this is becoming annoying. It takes a little while for my external editor to load the photo anyways.... and all that malarky for cropping it?
    Please help!!!
Maybe I could turn off external editor for my default, but would that mean I wouldn't be given the option to edit in an external editor????

I did try that and that seems to work.... but still it seems that in photobook mode, you are limited to only one editor.... whatever you have made as your default editor in your preferences. So, I suppose each time you want to do an edit in the external editor (if set up like as discussed above), you need to go into your preferences and switch it around, then back again once the edit is done.

  • DPS Single Edition Rejected

A very interesting thing has occured. We have an Adobe DPS Enterprise Edition account in which we created a single folio edition for. This is a digital version of a photobook we published for a Rabbi in Israel (www.seasonsofthemoon.com). Apple reviewed our app and rejected it and said:
We found that your app is primarily a book and is therefore not appropriate for the App Store, as noted in the App Store Review Guidelines.
Books should be submitted to the iBookstore. To work with Apple on iBookstore distribution, first verify that your content meets the following requirements:
    - ISBNs for all titles you intend to distribute
    - Is in EPUB format, passing EpubCheck 1.0.5
To obtain an ISBN for your content and learn more about ISBNs, please see US ISBN Agency. Then complete the iTunes Connect Online Application.
Visit iBookstore Aggregators for information on working with the iBookstore aggregators.
My question is: If our app was selling more than one book, for instance, 3 or 4 books, would Apple still reject it?

Try and add more overlays and add more interactivity to your App. Use Scrollable frames, MSO's (like Slideshows). When you resubmit the app, cite examples of other apps in App store with same level of interactivity. That will help in Approval process. Use features that that not available in iBooks and inform apple that you have unique features in your app that are not availble through ibooks.

  • TS1702 How to transfer all edited photos to camera roll on iPhoto?

Just finish editing over 100 photos and I need them on my pc to create a photobook. I can't find an option to save them all on the camera roll. The only option is pass then one by one.
If this is a flaw on the program would be nice to see an option to save all edited pictures on a new album or replace the originals saving the originals on another folder.
    Thank you.

Use a WiFi transfer app to send the synced photos back to a computer. I use Wireless Transfer App

  • IPhoto 11 Library was corrupted and photobook is lost

Hi there, I have encountered various issues with my iphoto. I have attempted to resolve it and I believe I have created a bigger mess.
    Problems:
    1. many photos in "events" and "photobook" when clicked did not connect to photo for editing, it simply showed a large black screen with the warning symbol (I believe this was caused by my own mistake of moving around photos in the iphoto library when I went to "reveal in finder" . My lesson learned: do not move photos in iphoto library!)
    2. I attempted to remedy this problem by following the instructions I found on various posts here. I have downloaded the iPhoto manager, created a new library etc. However, after many unsuccessful attempts, I have simply restored my iPhoto to a backup from Jan. The problem now is that this is just prior to my installing iPhoto 11. So the photobook, I has spent hours on is now lost.
    3. I have attempted to go to a newer version of the backup from TM. But I think I am also encountering a full startup disk. (as I only now have 10.65GB available).
    Possible Solutions?
I have a 2TB external hard drive and a 1TB drive for my TM. I am considering moving TM to the larger drive and then moving iPhoto to the 1TB drive. However, before I get myself into any more messes, I am seeking your advice.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
But I think I am also encountering a full startup disk. (as I only now have 10.65GB available).
This is a major issue. OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially. Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
    To move the iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, and I need to download Adobe Digital Editions. Is there any way to download an earlier version so I don't have to upgrade my system?

I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, and I need to download Adobe Digital Editions. Is there any way to download an earlier version so I don't have to upgrade my system?

    OT,
I have the exact same question as heathy32 (I just want to get a photobook ordered, but I'm currently running iPhoto 7.1.5 with OS X 10.6.8 and discovered right at the end of the process of making this photobook that it's no longer supported with the versions I have) but I just wanted to check something with you before I proceed with the iLife 11 disk...
Namely: do I need download the iPhoto Library Upgrader first?
There seem to be issues discussed in other forums about the Upgrader, I want to make sure I don't do something like downloading it if that isn't strictly necessary.
I am perfectly happy just to install iPhoto 9 and upgrade to 9.2.3 using the updater you link to, just so long as I can get a photo book printed!
Once that is safely out of the way, I intend to upgrade to Maverick etc.
    Your thoughts very welcome
    Thank you.

  • Photobook collaboration with PC user ?

Tried the iPhoto photobook service last fall and loved the result. The book was really appreciated by the family members we sent copies to and became an almost instant heirloom.
Now we want to collaborate on a new book but some of us use iPhoto while others are on PCs and use Picaboo. We are many timezones apart so sharing computers (other than via Timbuktu ?) is out of the question.
Parallels would be an absolutely last resort, one I don't even want to consider if avoidable. Is there any other way of sharing the layout task cross-platform ? Maybe using pdf as the communications medium or something like that ... or is there a Mac & PC photobook creation application that I just haven't found yet ?
    Thanks for any inspired thoughts,
    -Sven

MyPublisher.com offers a bookmaking application for both Macs and PCs. If the files that are produced are cross platform you could share the file between two users with DropBox. Toad's Tutorial #21 describes how to use Dropbox to share an iWeb domain file between two Mac and the process would be the same for Mac to PC and a compatible file. The only caveat is that both users cannot edit the item at the same time if it's a UNIX style package like an iPhoto library or iWeb domain file. I*'ve not been able to find where the files are stored so can't help you with that.* They are not kept in the application as far as I can tell and don't show up even with invisible files displayed. 'Tis a puzzlement.

  • Need help editing scanned images of old photo album pages PSE 9

Before I begin this project, I thought I'd get some advice from someone who has undertaken a similar project.  I have three photo albums from the 50's and 60's.  The albums were made by my mother who mounted the photos (mostly black and white but some color photos) on construction paper (of various colors) using the corner holders or glue.  She hand cut the construction paper so each page is not a perfect rectangle ( about 11" tall, 8.5" wide).  The pages were punched and put into a three-ring binder.
She added text to the edge of the photo and/or to the construction paper.  Each page contains one to 6 photos and text.  Each album has about 120 pages.  I want to keep the notes on the construction paper so I scanned each page into a TIF files, 400 dpi and stored the images in a separate folder for each volume.
I use (poorly) PSE 9.  I see it has a auto straighten/crop feature that can be used one photo at a time.  I tried the divide scanned images function and that did not fully separate all images on the page and also created an image for stray objects on the page such as an unused corner holder.  (I know those things have a better name but it escapes me now.)
I plan to create photo books for my siblings.  I am now thinking of cropping the image of each page (rather than each photo on the page) into a uniform size, adjusting levels, contrast and sharpness, saving this image to a JPEG file, and using these edited JPEG images to create the photo book.  Since each page was hand-cut, there will areas of white where one page was torn or cut smaller than another page.  Some pages will have blanks where old photos have been lost leaving behind only the corner things.  It won't be perfect but it will be an image of the album as it exists today.
    My questions are:
The pages are about 11 by 8.5.  Does anyone know a photo service that prints photo albums in a portrait layout in this size?  I  have been unable to find one; it looks like most online photo books are wider rather than taller.
Let's assume I use a company such as Shutterfly that offers a 12x12 format.  I assume it would be better to edit the images in PSE9 rather than any online software.  What should I do to keep the proportions in the current images true but make the image fit a 12x12 page, for example?
IS there any other editing software anyone can recommend that will speed this up, hopefully a software that would take multiple photos at one time, auto-straighten and auto crop to a set size?  And also auto contrast/level/sharp.  If I could use such auto features on these images and then go back and adjust the photos that did not play well with the auto features, that would save me time.
I appreciate anyone's input.  I dread doing this but we have one set of photos and 5 siblings so it has to be done.  Thanks!

    Hi,
Mentioning your issues one by one:
    1) PSE does not have any portrait Photobook available, so your thought was the best way to get the work done is by choosing the 12x12 - shutterfly one.
    2) PSe does a good job of editing the images. You can set your images of approx. 11x8  size to fit to the 12x12 page. Just choose a one photo page Layout for the page and then right click on the image to " Fit photo in the frame".
    3) If more edits are required for the image, you can easily go to Advanced mode and edit your photos, layouts, move the frames, images or add effects to the images.
    4) Photo book creation sure takes time. because, you want it to be the best. I am sure PSE would help you best here.
Go ahead and create you photobook. Inc ase you get stuck somewhere, you can always post here to get help!
    Cheers,
    Swarnima

  • Center text in photobook

how do I center text in a photobook?
    thank you

    JASCHI:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You have to copy the text that you've entered, past it in a text editor where you can change the alignment to center, recopy and then repast into the book text field. Be sure to check the text by creating a pdf of the book before ordering to make sure it gets rendered as you want.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Problems with the background image size in a photobook

Hi there, I really need help here. When I make a photobook I want to display my images large, taking the whole page. To do that I put the image as a background and it's OK. My problem is that when I do this, iPhoto always crops it. I have to use the move tool to move the image up and down, left or right to chose a best position. I don't want to do this, I want my image to be shown perfectly from end to end. I have to resize the image in many ways, even used the book's native resolution but it still doesn't work. If I choose "fit photo to frame size" I end up with two stripes at the top and the bottom of the page.
Please help me, what size should I resize my image to, so that iPhoto displays it as it is?
    Thank you

    Hi
The fact you are using a Mac is why both myself and JCellini assumed you where using a pre IE7 version.
But the code you are using to test in IE will cause a problem with any 'virtual machine' such as crossover, because it cannot reference anything outside its own assigned section of the drive, and referencing the png in the way you are would be for it an invalid reference, it also would not work in any browser when you uploaded the site.
    Change - background-image:url(file:///Macintosh  HD/Users/myname/Documents/websites/test/Test/images/test_back.png);
    To - background-image:url(images/test_back.png);
But if the region is not editable I would suggest you temporarily make it so, externalize your css to a css file, insert a link to the external css file in your head content, then lock the region once again. This way you will always be able to edit your css without worrying about 'locked regions'.

  • Creating a photobook in iPhoto 09

I have created a photobook in iPhoto which I am very happy with. I have added text but when I click on the tab 'Buy It' I get a message saying .....Your book appears to have default text that has not yet been edited. Printed books will not include this text. Do you want to continue with your order?....
I really don't want to get the book printed without the text. I have tried using the default text but I still get the same message. I want to record in pictures and text the first year of my granddaughter life.
Does anyone kindly have a solution to my problem.
Thank you and happy new year to all Mac Fans
    Maggi

that means that some place there is the latin default text unedited and it will not print - your text will - and Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
That is the only way to be positive of what you are getting

  • RAW-TIFF and Photobooks

I am using a 10.5.8, on an 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo and iPhoto 08, (version 7.1.5) and I have a mix of RAW and jpgs in a Photobook I created, but haven't yet ordered. I have in my preferences under Advanced --->RAW Save Edits as 16 bit TIFFs. All of the files have had some edits to them, so the question is.
Can I order the book and get closely what I see on my monitor?
And a second question....If I just used RAW files and made no edits to the images can I make a book and order it? Or is some conversion needed.
Thanks in advance and hope I can order this as is but hesitant to do so until a brain greater then mine fills me in. I would hate to order it and fine the color totally out of wack or that its a blank box because it was a RAW file.
    Thanks again

    Terence,
They are originally RAW files, but I have under Preferences ---> Advanced--->>RAW Photos-->> Save edits as 16-bit TIFF files.........they have all been edited. Since they have been edited aren't they now TIFF files and therefore able to be sent and printed properly?
They have been edited, so I presume they are TIFF files but when I look at them within the context of the book they still are tagged as RAW files. I understand what the RAW files are that is why I am asking, as what point do they cease being RAW and able to be used for a book.
The way I read it, since they have been edited, they are TIFFs and can be sent, but I don't want to make a costly mistake.
Will the Preview method send in the other response tell me 100% that it will be printable or not?
    Thanks

  • Corrupted photobook.Or is it the library?

Problem:  have made photobook (100 pages) however, every time i open it to edit it, a number of photos disappear, font style changes, sometimes coloured blocks appear where a photo used to be or photosize shrinks does not even fit the set size box. i have "finished" it 3 times and redo it only to reopen it and find it has again gone barmy.
History:  have amassed an enormous photo library over the years, decided it was necessary to migrate it to an external drive as I had not enough space on my computer to do anything let alone edit movies.
I recently purchased Aperture (which I am hating) and have tried to import the iphoto library into the aperture library.
    Tried:  rebuilding iphoto library
    Suspicion:  iphoto library is corrupted
Other stuff:  Am using iphoto v9.2.3 running on Mac OS X v10.6.8 on a desktop mac with 2.4GHz intel core 2 duo, 21.4 GB left of usable space. Its a few years old. i have time machine on an external drive but have not been able to restore the iphoto library as it won't let me go back to a previous date.  Probably is another way of doing it for the more technically savvy...
Also, I have another photobook which is half finished which I can not open, it crashes the whole iphoto (arrrgh!!!!).
Can anyone suggest miraculous recovery of my many hours of work?
Kind thanks for reading this far!
    Catiepie

If the Library has spent time on the FAT disk then this could have caused the corruption you're experiencing.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photobook double pages in a PSE photobook to single pages?

I would like to save/separate the photobook double pages created either in PSE 7 or PSE 8 as single pages so that I can futher edit them and have different background, etc as single pages. It will also make things easier because I save them as PDF and print them through a printing company.

    Hi,
This can be done through a simple workaround. What you need to do is go to the location where you have saved your photobook. Now, there must be a folder which has same name as the photobook (eg photobook is called apple.pse, there will be a folder called apple). Open the folder and you will find the psd files for all the pages. You can open the psd files for individual pages and edit them.
