Photobooth acting odd after OS X update

When i open it, it randomly flashes green, grey and purple lines and then they go away. When i try to record video, it unexpectedly quits on me and shows a warning. I just got my macbook pro at the beginning of july. Anyone know what's going on?

I can't install or uninstall itunes. Says the iTunes.msi file is not a valid file. My iTunes started acting odd after having the Windows XP virus. I got ride of the virus, but then the repercussion of having it have wrecked havoc.

An error pops up saying that the file isn't found and then when I link it to the file, the error says it isn't a valid itunes.msi file. I had iTunes on my PC but it won't work properly so I am trying to re-install or update it. Neither works.

problems with language resource files and folders (i believe that's one of the French ones that you're having a problem with) are often produced by disk damage around the areas of the files in question.
so perhaps let's try running a chkdsk over your C drive. see:

does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? if so, does the uninstall or reinstall go through any better afterwards?

IMessage acting odd after ios6

My wife and I each have an iPhone and share the apple ID. After we upgraded to ios6, each time I iMessage her, I get the same text back sent from me and sent to her. Same with her phone, she iMessage me and I get it and she gets the text back from herself.

To do this:
Go into Settings on iPhone and set iMessage to receive at mobile number instead of your email address(es)/apple id, it will send your message to her iPhone only, and not yours. Same goes for her.

Fans acting up after 2010-01 security update

My MacPro (2,1) 8-core (16Gb) has it's fans acting up after the 2010-01 security update. This update came together with an update for Java. Being aware of the possibility that problems can rise when updating the two at the same time, I ran the security update first, then a restart, checked permissions, a restart and then the Java update and checked permissions again. However, now with only Safari or just the finder running the fans act up after a while. Even with the simplest tasks like opening a folder or dragging something or just running idle. It's not full blast but fast enough to be annoying.
I've done a SMC reset in conjunction with a 15min detachment of all cables, booted a few times in SafeMode, but no result. I hoped the 2010-02 security update would fix it but again no luck. Any ideas?

I've looked in the Activity Monitor (I hardly use it) and it gives me some strange data. Like Airport-BaseStation is running.
I don't have an Airport Base Station either, and Little Snitch is always asking if I want to allow it to phone home. So, mine must be running, at least sometimes, in the background also.
Sorry, don't have a real clue about this, but here's some other stuff to try.
First, see if this fan revving up happens in a new admin account and try a Safe Boot. Hold shift key down at startup chime. It will take some time to boot; let it go, it's doing some checking and repairing. The reboot into normal bootup will be slower than usual also.
if it were happening to me, I'd throw Applejack at it; must be from Single User, which BTW, is generally, a safer way to clear some caches. After it's installed, start up in Single User (CMD-S) and type in applejack and follow the on screen instructions for caches and pref files. Don't run anything out of order. If that doesn't do it, then you could try it in deep cache cleaning mode by typing in applejack AUTO.
You may not see the benefits until after several restarts, and since caches are made to speed things up, you may see some temporary slowness until these are rebuilt. If you run it in "Deep," you'll probably be asked to reauthorize some applications, which now think they're being opened for the first time.
Even if it doesn't help this time, it's a very useful tool to have on hand.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Iphoto window is acting strange after latest update

After the latest update to iphoto, the window will not toggle to the front of any other open window when selected. I have to minimize all other open windows.

Are you referring to iPhoto 9.4.3 on your Mac? If so try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

SSH acting up after updates

Here's my problem: We've got a network of 5 macs and 1 linux server. I could manage all computers via ssh with no problem, no matter what machine I sat at ... that's the beauty of ssh
However, after some recent updates ssh doesn't work or connect reeeally slowly. When I finally do get a password prompt and enter the password, the connection has been closed by he other side (timeout occured).
Here's some output. I've tried adding 10.1.1.100 to /etc/hosts and gave it a host name, but that didn't really work either. Neither did adding 'GSSApiKeyExchange no' on the server side.
Apple claims they don't support 'ssh' ... figures.
Does anyone else have a clue what's going on?

I just had a problem with this myself. My ssh was working fine for years till a week or two ago, then I couldn't connect to anything. Here's what fixed it for me.
You need to edit (create if necessary) ~/.ssh/config on the machine you're connecting from and add the line
GSSAPIKeyExchange no
Your post said you tried that on the server side, I had to use it on the client side & it appears to work. You can test it first by using the -o switch at the command line, e.g.
ssh -x -o GSSAPIKeyExchange=no 192.x.x.x

After my Firefox updated to version 8.0, my mouse started acting up. It is difficult to click on links, sometimes it takes a few tries. Same goes for selecting text, which has become an ordeal. Is anyone else experiencing mouse issues after updating?

Clicking, right-clicking, and selecting is very awkward after the latest update, and many times requires more than one try. At first I thought it was just my mouse that was having issues, but then I realized it only happens in Firefox.

It may be that your hard drive is either failing again or that the hard drive bay SATA cable may need replacing. And if you're getting a "Service Battery" anyway it's probably best to take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and get a free diagnosis and estimate for repair. I would specifically ask that the SATA cable be tested so that you can tick that off the list of culprits.

ATV acting screwy after update

Leaving Netflix's own problem aside, my ATV is misbehaving badly after the latest update. It is freezing for long periods, the remote having no effect. It's taking ages to move from one screen to another. I've tried rebooting from the remote and unplugging the device, but to no good end.

Touch Screen unresponsive after iOS 8 update

My 1 year old 64GB iPhone 5 touch screen started to become unresponsive after iOS 8 update
It's not consistent. Touch screen functionality will seize whilst phone is being used for either answering calls, typing messges, surfing, gaming etc and won't become responsive until it is turned off and on again (via power button). Home button is functioning with no problems.
As the phone is now out of its warranty period I want to verify if it's the OS that's causing this or do I actually have a hardware issue.

I have the same issue. iPhone 5, 1 year-old, not even a scratch.
Sometimes my touch screen works, sometimes not. When it works, it is just for some seconds, then some phantom touches start to happen all over the screen, but specially, when i'm typing, it types z or m, when I try to type something in, and it receives it, it will act as z or m again....
If I switch off my screen and switch on again... sometimes it will work, sometimes it wont... veeery unstable.
I considered downgrading to 7.1.2 but since I heard it is ilegal I decided to wait for a new iOS release.... any suggestions? (already wiped it and the issue continued...)
Is it really not recommended to downgrade it and have my phone funcionalities back?

After the latest update, all my apple products reverted to an old icloud account. As it no longer exists, I cannot get into it to delete it and add the correct id. How can I change this, especially on my Macbook pro?

It's all rather odd because the old account cannot 'no longer exist' - if you don't have the correct password you won't be able to get into it, but you can't actually delete an iCloud account from the server.
I'm afraid you will need the services of iCloud Support. If you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:

Apps not syncing after 2.1 update

Weird situation... I can no longer sync any apps after 2.1 update. Just noticed it when I purchased several new apps today and they didn't sync. Every option and list in the Applications tab are greyed out... Apps on the phone remain the same. If I delete one from the phone, then I can no longer sync them back. Selecting Sync syncs everything else other than applications... it skips this everytime. Everything was okay on the last 2.0.2 sync just before the update...Has anyone experienced this problem after updating to 2.1? Kinda odd...

I just went ahead and started new from scratch (AGAIN)...
Restore then reinstall everything one by one.
Unfortunately, I have never been successful with iPhone updates retaining my data and files from previous versions without any glitches. With EVERY UPDATE all files and information on my iPhone is lost everytime because iTunes was unable to transfer data from the backup stored with previous firmware prior to update or a glitch causes me to have to start fresh with a newly cleaned out phone. A message to the likes of "Incompatible with current firmware/iPhone" (or something to that affect) always pops up.
What good is the iPhone if I have to encounter data loss everytime a new "bug-fixing update" is released. Having to literally start over-and-over again from scratch is extremely frustrating. This makes the iPhone the worst investment I've ever made and the Most Unproductive Device I've owned compared to previous Windows Mobile devices owned...

After 2.1 update still getting dropped calls

After 2.1 update I have dropped at least 15 Phone calls , the signal strength is usually on 5 bars 3g , the calls drop without warning (doesnt break up or destort voice), It also seems if I look at email while on a call it drops the call about 20 seconds later, another odd thing is the improved reception at my desk at work , used to get 1 bar on EDGE or no service , after 2.1 update I got 5 bars on 3g and the internet was pretty fast in the same spot but only during the morning time , I went back into the office about an hour later the bars dropped to 1 bar on EDGE/no service and the internet wouldnt even work , and now today when talking with my girlfriend (who has the same phone) the call quality has dropped , the speech sounds like she or I are talking through a voice changer where the words become incomprehensible or the sound totally drops momentarily and then returns to normal , so now im finding myself asking are you there over and over , do you think this phone will ever exhibit excellent voice quality and call reliablity or should I just go back to my old company?

Since updating my phone to the new 2.1 Firmware I have been seeing my phone at full bars which I normally don't see on a regulars bases like I do now but if I am having full bars why am I having connectivity issues like when I am talking on the phone it is constantly breaking up almost to the point it sounds like a blown speaker and when I send a SMS it pauses at the end of the loading box for about a minutes before the messages is completely sent. These 2 issues I have never experienced until right after the install of the new 2.1 Firmware

Printing problems after installing Security Update 2015-002

After installing Security Update 2015-002 on three separate computers on two different WiFi networks, printers on the network are losing their connections to the computers that can print to them. We have experienced this on a network running a Canon printer and an HP printer - both have disappeared on the network although the printer suggests it is still connected to the network. The same thing has happened on a separate network I manage with a single HP printer on that network. I have tried removing the printers, resetting the printers etc. Nothing is working. I can get one print out of a printer when I turn the printer off and then on. Three minutes later the printer is no longer connected to the computer - although still connected to the network. Please Help.

I think I have figured out that it is in fact the Apple Extreme Base Station that is losing the printer. It is very odd because the printer is connected to the Wifi. My computer is connected to the WiFi and connecting to the internet. The Router for the internet can see the printer. An Apple Extreme is then connected via a network cable in Bridge mode to the router. When I turned the power off the The Apple Extreme and then restored power it all worked. was still working this morning, but again this afternoon I needed to reboot Apple Extreme. It is quite strange that this is happening on two different Networks in different parts of the country at the same time. Maybe the Security Update is somehow affecting/blocking communication with the printer? I just don't know enough. These networks have been up and running with the same printers and computers for years with zero problems - all of a sudden we have the same problem on both Networks.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Pacman all odd after a recent -Syu

Yes, pacman is acting all strange after I recently updated all packages. Now, every time I run pacman I get this:
error: /var/lib/pacman/local/kernel26-2.6.19.2-1/desc: No such file or directory
I tried creating the dir and but then it complains about 'depends' in the same directory. After creating that one, pacman seems to stop responding when trying to download something...
Also, it seems pacman is unaware of already installed packages as it wants to install a lot of stuff I already have.
