Photobooth Effects

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to put this or not but is it possible to use photobooth effects like pop art etc with an external camera or take a digital photo and have it put in in photobooth efects. I'm sorry for not descibing it better.

This place is just fine (if my answer works for you.)
No, you cannot do what you ask with Photo Booth.
Photo Booth works while you are taking the picture, so you cannot add the effects later.
You have two choices:
1. Take the picture again using your built-in iSight with PhotoBooth, or
2. Use an image editor like PhotoShop Elements (or any other real image editor application) to apply effects to images that you already have in your computer.
If PSE, you do this with the "Filters" menu commands, but other apps may use different commands.

IChat and Photobooth effects- Broken! Not all but some

Okay so these effects work while iChatting and while looking at the screen in Photobooth. When you try to take a picture however, the result is either negative or white. The pictures looks alright up top right after its taken but down below when you look at the little polaroid icon the picture is negative or white. Also after you click on the little icon to review the picture it no longer looks fine up top.

I don't want to delete these effects. I know how to do that but I want to keep them! I know the pathways and everything. I think they may just be broken because I now have Snow Leopard. I'm not sure when these were installed but I know it was before I installed Snow Leopard. I think they were downloaded from the Apple website though.
Basically my question is, is there anyway to reinstall these effects or change a setting so that they work?
I could put on a screenshot, I have one I just don't know how to put it into the post. If you can explain then I could add that later if it would help.

They are the MoreiChatEffects.
They are causing problems in PhotoBooth mainly but also in iChat.
As you know they are in the Compostions folder you will know they are Quartz files.
If you Install Developer Tools off the Install Disk > Options Installs folder you can open them.
It seems they are not fully Intel or rather not fully integrated with the OS in Snow Leopard.
Older Quartz files like the ones that come with this Utility http://www.scriptsoftware.com/chatfx/ DO NOT work with the OS above 10.4.9
Both these seem to be because Apple have made changes in the way the basic Video stream is captured for each OS.
With the Chat FX ones I made a Duplicate (Finder > File Menu) and then played around.
If I was going to do it with these I would take an Apple one and keep the Input model and Output module and replace it with an MoreiChatEffects one to see if I could get it to work in Snow Leopard (Photobooth and iChat).

The header seems to say that some may not work.
It does also say Intel but nothing I saw about Snow Leopard.

Photobooth Effects not working properly

I'm having an issue with Photobooth that is quite odd. When there aren't any effects turned on, Photobooth is fine. When I click on the effects buttons however, they are all screwed up. I can't even explain it, so I've included a link to a few screen shots.
Bear in mind that I'm sitting dead center of the camera. My iSight works fine in other apps, so I'm assuming that it's the effects plugins that are causing this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the  Discussions
I would delete them.
They are placed in the Hard Drive/System/Library/Compositions folder.
Technically this is not good Practice as that should be for Apple's own stuff only and any Add-Ons should either go to Hard Drive/Library/Compositions for every Mac User to use or to Hard Drive/Users/(your account)/Library/Compositions for just you to use.
The second more important thing is that they are older style Quartz files and not compatible with the current Quartz/Quicktime management of Video.

Emailing photo booth pics from mail!! and photobooth effects

hi all, enjoying Leopard but can't work something out. in photo booth you can email photos no bother within photobooth, but if your in mail and open the media browser and click on photo booth none of the pics i've taken since Leopard(and i think some before) are included?
and does anyone else feel that the effects work far better in ichat than they do in photo booth.
and what happened to the effect where you can be someone else(i think they did it with the microsoft dude in the keynote)

New Photobooth Effects Don't Work in OS X Lion

Does anyone else that downloaded lion have issues with the new first page of effects in Photobooth? Mine isn't recognizing or even showing a preview of the new effects like dizzy, alien head, etc.

Location of iChat and Photobooth Effects

Does anyone know where the video/photo effects used by iChat and Photobooth are saved? I'm experimenting with quartz composer and I'd like to be able to see how apple did their effects. I've looked everywhere I can think of but I can't find them.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter /Applications/Photo Booth.app/Contents/Resources/ as the path; more are available by using iChat instead of Photo Booth or using /System/Library/Compositions/ as the complete path.

The new photobooth effects show up in iChat and Photobooth but do not do anything at all

I'm asking for a friend. The effects show up and everything but when selected they act as if I've selected original. Is there a fix yet?

What they do is detect your face and add an overlay graphic to it. Make sure that you are in a well lit area, or these effects will not work. Also make sure your face can be seen easily, no glasses, sunglasses, hoodies w/ hoods up, etc. Hope this helped.

New (missing) Features and iChat/PhotoBooth effects

AirPort menu signal strength.
The AirPort item in the menu bar now includes signal strength for all available wireless networks, so you can see which access point has the best signal before selecting it.
I'm not seeing this. Anyone else seeing this? Anyone know the fix?

I had a similar problem when I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard (and also upgraded to iLife 09). For me, the solution was to run iChat and Photo Booth in 32-bit mode instead of 64-bit mode.
To do this, go to the Applications folder, select the icon for iChat, go to the menu bar and select File->Get Info. (Alternatively use the shortcut ][-I or "right click" the icon). Check the box for "Open in 32 bit mode". Repeat for Photo Booth.
(note- I have also posted the above text to another thread in the iSight forum to improve the chances of it being found by others seeking a solution)

i just got the mac book pro, i was wondering how to download the extra photo booth effects?

There should be a download link on the extra special effects Photo Booth website. If not, do a Google search for a site that has download links.

Any other ichat and photobooth effects ?

More iChat effects 2.01 ***** and messed up my computer so it cannot be that.
Is there any other effects you can add that either:
A. Dont suck and mess up
and
B. Dont ruin my computer

These all are in fact Quartz Files created in Quartz Composer which gets installed if you Install the Developer Tools (on your Install Disk in Option Installs Folder (Expand the window)
Once you have Quartz Composer installed you can create your own.
You can Google for Quartz Composer files.
However as Quartz Composer can make Screen Savers and iTunes Visulizers you may have to dig a bit deeper on sites you find.

MoreiChatEffects were produced when Leopard was the current OS.
They have been created with an Earlier version of Quartz Composer (Part of Xcode) and do not work properly in Snow Leopard and Lion.
They are also Installed incorrectly.
The Apple ones are in System/Library/Compositions.
Any Items being installed for All Users should really be in Library/Compositions (with User Only in Home Folder/Library/Compositions)
MoreiChatEffects adds them to the System/Library/Compositions along with the Apple ones.

No iChat Effects Available

I installed Leopard on both my G5 PowerMac as well as my daughter's iMac G5. She has no effects button on her iChat display window at all and "Show Video Effects" is grayed out of the video menu. I have the 2 pages of effects on my PowerMac. She does have the effects in PhotoBooth.
I understand about the missing or unusable background effects for non-intel computers but I haven't seen any posts about effects missing altogether.
I did try reinstalling iChat from the Leopard DVD, but it's still the same ... any ideas?

On my iMac I don't see ANY effects ... not even an effects button. It sounds like you see an effects button on your iMac, but only two pages of effects ... that's what I see on my tower. At this point I don't know if it was a bad install, something messed up in the preferences or what because people telling me that it's because the effects don't work on non-intel macs is simply not true. They work on my non-intel tower and they work in photobooth on my iMac and from the posts I've read, plenty of people with non-intel macs see the effects button and two pages of effects (which I think Apples refers to as "photobooth effects").
As to the 2 out of 4 pages ... nothing indicates the 4 pages on my tower (where I do see effects) I know about them through posts as well as the "Leopard Tour" quicktime movie.

New photo booth effects on mac os x v10 lion aren't working

i just downloaded mac os x 10 today and i wanted to see the new photobooth effects but they wont work. please help!!!!

New Photo Booth effects??

I installed Leopard earlier on today (Family license) on both my iMac and my MacBook. I thought both installations had gone perfectly smoothly, but it transpires that the new effects in Photo Booth haven't been installed on my iMac! =(
They've been installed fine on my MacBook, but they're just missing from the iMac installs... (the version is 2.0 (70) on each machine)
Anyone with any ideas? Or can the new effects not run on a G5? =/

Correct, the new PhotoBooth effects only work on Mactels.
