PhotoBooth Questions

I have not had much success with taking photos in Photo Booth with the new backgrounds without having portions of the person in the photo missing in the photo. Is there a way this should be done? I get out of the frame of the photo when it asks me to, though this does not seem to help.

Yeah, we are all having the same problem, but it can be solved (sort of). It is because of your background. Try putting (either moving the computer or something behind) a white backdrop (or any other color) esp. one of just ONE color. That should help considerably. Any problems you still will have is just Photo Booth's imperfection.

  • Photobooth question

The "Pop Art" effect on my Photobooth is not working all of a sudden. (This is the effect where the image is split into 4 Andy Warhol- looking squares.)What I get is one picture at the top left, and the other 3/4 of the image is solid yellow.
Is there a way to reset the effects for Photobooth to restore this?
    Many thanks!
    -BB

    Hello Brainbush -BB
You should be able to use the Software Restore disc that came with your Mac to restore the Photo Booth application.
If that does not work for you and you do not get better suggestions here, try asking your question in the Using Mac OS X Tiger Discussions Forum. That forum covers applications that come with Mac OS X.

  • Photobooth question - selecting more than 1 photo

    Hi All,
so a few weekends ago, i spend it with my friends kids and played around with photobooth....they loved it....but 200+ photos later whew!!!!
So I've edited them down to about 60 and want to email them to my friend so that the kids can look and laugh at them, archive etc.
But when I try the good ol' apple standard shift-click to select more.
No go. Seems like I can only email or send to iPhoto .....One at a time?????
Please say this can't be true?
Why was something so simple as this overlooked by the testers of that program?

If you really mean all values in the LOV, then you can put the code into a key-listval trigger, and after you do a Show_LOV, loop through the record group, moving your values into the text field.
However, if you want to be able to only select a few values from the LOV, then you will need to create a stacked canvas with a block that looks like the LOV, and add code to the block that allows you to select various records and transfer the data in a when-mouse-click trigger.

  • Photobooth Question - interupted isight capture. Can I retrieve the video?

    Hi there,
I was recording a video using isight through photobooth. I was a few minutes into the video when a friend decided it would be funny to hold down the power button to shut off the computer.
I now have an 11 megabyte file in my photobooth folder. But I can't play it in quicktime of VLC player.
The file was never saved properly because of the power interruption. Can I recover this video? Anything I can do to save this video / data?
    PLEASE?

It's unlikely that you'll be able to recover the Photo Booth video, though there is a service that claims it can do it--for a fee, of course. See this thread,
Recorded Movie on iSight wont work, http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10769929.

  • PhotoBooth Has a Question Mark Over the Icon in the Dock

I'm trying to fix my bosses daughters MacAir. Her brother was playing around with PhotoBooth and now you can't even open it. The icon in the dock has a question mark over it and when I go into her applications and double click on PhotoBooth nothing happens. It looks like it loads but really it's just a quick half second thing and nothing happens. No PhotoBooth options show up on the top either, it just doesn't load at all.
How can I get her PhotoBooth back working? She has Mac OS X Version 10.5.5 and all possible updates are installed.
    Any help would be appreciated...

Perform a custom install from the Mac OS X 10.5 disks and install only that component if possible; if not, use Pacifist to install it. In either case, rerun the combo updater for your Mac OS X version afterwards.

  • ALL pictures in iPhoto *and* PhotoBooth are gone :(  please help

    Hello,
I have a bit of a dilema here. On 6-27-07 (actually 6-28 cause it was after midnight), my daughter and I were taking pictures in photobooth. I selected the iPhoto icon from the PhotoBooth picture to send a copy of those pictures to iPhoto.
PhotoBooth froze up after doing several of them and wouldn't work. I am trying to remember from memory (which is swiss cheese from the MS), but I think I had to do a hard shut down. When I tried to go to iPhoto, it acted like it was my 1st time using it and it began asking me questions as if I was setting it up for the 1st time. ALL pictures are GONE. Everything in iPhoto and PhotoBooth are GONE I don't know what I did or how (if I can) to fix it.
Can anyone possibly help me? Lots of precious memories gone. I was recently going to read how to do a back-up right before this happened. Now I wish I hadn't gone to sleep that night until I learned how to do it and actually did make a back-up
My husband called Apple and they told him to do something and now that has created approximately 3 copies of random pics and not all of them, or I would just delete the extras. My husband may have done something wrong to have it make extra copies of the pictures it has now, I don't know.
My husband didn't seem like he was happy with the help that he was getting at the time. So, I found my way here again!!! I have been to the discussions boards once before, but I forgot how to get here (serious swiss cheese memory from MS). I have to save ALL websites that I like to my favorites or I should say 'Bookmarks' or I will probably never find it again. <embarassed>
**I will tell you a little about me and the use of my mac....... I have Multiple Sclerosis so my husband purchased the lap top to make it easier for me to get online and not be stuck to one chair which makes me hurt bad. I am new to Mac and have always used a PC.
Anyway, when we purchased it we explained that I would mainly be using it for Internet use and for the pictures that I take (I am disabled, so that is about all I can do but I thoroughly enjoy it), which happens to be more than the average person since I have a new Grandson
Any help that anyone can give me, I would TRULY APPRECIATE!!!!!!
    Thanks,
    New2Him

    Brenda,
    You're quite welcome.
That does sound like your original library. It makes sense to me; your husband was probably told to drag it to the Desktop by the Apple help desk person. Look inside your Pictures folder for the other two iPhoto Library folders. If you don't find them there, do another Finder Search. Click once on a found item in the Search window to see its path at the bottom of that window. That should help you locate those folders.
After you find and rename or delete the other libraries, you will be ready to create a new library. (You might not want to delete those other folders yet - in case some photos are missing from your main library. But if you are sure that nothing in them is original, go ahead and Trash them to free up the space.)
To create a new library, Option-launch iPhoto and click "Create Library." By default it will be located in your Pictures folder and named "iPhoto Library." You can change the name if you want - say, "iPhoto Library New" before you click "Save." A new, empty library will open. Drag the right corner of the window up so that it fills only about half of your screen. Do iPhoto > Preferences > Advanced and make sure that there IS a check in the boxes beside "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when importing to library" and "Add ColorSync Profile".
On the other half of your screen, open a Finder window. Set it to column view and navigate this path: Desktop/ iPhoto Library/ Originals/ 2007/ (Film Roll folders). It is these Film Roll folders that contain your photos. Select all of the Roll folders and drag them as a group over the iPhoto window until the cursor shows you a green plus symbol. Drop them in the main viewing area of the iPhoto window. iPhoto will indicate to you that it is importing. A film roll will be created for each folder that you dragged. [Tip: if you want an Album to represent each film roll, then drag them to the Source Pane (left column) instead of the main viewing window. This will create an Album and a film roll, both with the same name as the imported folder.]
I have read that the film roll date can be wrong after importing, so you may want to check the dates as you go. Open the Info Pane in the lower left corner of the iPhoto window (click the little i). When you select a Roll, its info will display in the Info Pane. You can edit the Roll's title and date, if you wish.
When the 2007 rolls have all been imported, switch to the Originals/ 2006 folder, select the roll folders, and drag to your iPhoto window. Repeat for each year in your Desktop library.
This will recover your Original, unedited photos in the same film rolls as before. What cannot be saved is your Albums, Slideshows, Books, titles, keywords, ratings, and other metadata. These were contained in the database file that was damaged during the iPhoto hang or subsequent hard shut down.
If you had spent significant time editing your photos, then you may want to have a look in Desktop/ iPhoto Library/ Modified to see if you wish to save any of the edited versions. There is no way to reconnect the edits with their Originals; that info was also stored in the database file. But if you want to import them to your library you may. Be aware that this will cause the appearance of duplication, much like you had in the library your husband created. If you can part with your edited versions, then it is much easier to discard them. (If not, be selective.)
I'll look forward to hearing your progress. Regards,
    Shelly

  • No Photobooth after hard drive replacement

Wasn't sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but a couple of days ago the hard drive had to be replaced on my macbook and i have just noticed that there is no photobooth icon in the dock. I have searched using spotlight and looked in applications, but i can't find it. Is it not on the computer anymore???

Photobooth does not install by default. You will need to manually re-install it from the disk that came with your MacBook:
Installing Mac OS X and Applications
To install Mac OS X and the applications that came with your MacBook:
1 Back up your essential files. Because the Erase and Install option erases your hard disk, you should back up your essential files before installing Mac OS X and other applications.
2 Make sure your power adapter is connected and plugged in.
3 Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 that came with your computer.
4 Double-click Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software. _+*To install only the applications that came with your computer, double-click Install Bundled Software Only.*+_
Note: To install iCal, iChat AV, iSync, iTunes, Safari, and the iLife applications, double-click Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software.
    5 Follow the onscreen instructions.
6 After selecting the destination volume for installation, continue following the onscreen instructions. Your computer might restart and ask you to insert the next Mac OS X installation disc.

  • I can't use Photobooth - when I open the app, I get the message: "Photo Booth couldn't save your photos - Photo Both encountered an error when trying to save your photos. You photos cannot be saved at this time."

I can't use Photobooth - when I open the app, I get the message: "Photo Booth couldn't save your photos - Photo Both encountered an error when trying to save your photos. You photos cannot be saved at this time."
i tried adding user macintosh hd/users/your_user/pictures/"photo booth"  but still photo booth is not working and even images in photo booth cant be deleted they keep coming back

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Isight photobooth and skype

    Hi,
ever since I got the new version of skype, photobooth won't recognize the built in isight camera. It simply shows a 'no camera' icon in the middle of the screen (photobooth app). However I have found that whenever I quit skype and then restard photobooth or simply start photobooth without having skype running there aren't any problems.
Hope this hasn't previously been discussed however i didn't find anything through the search (both here and via google..)
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

Hi EZ Jim and thank you for the reply!
    You are most welcome, MUCaviator!
And thanks for the Helpful points!
I do realize that only one application may use isight at a time. However while skype may be open it isn't using it (no videochat or anything on and the light next to the isight camera isn't on). With the old version of skype this didn't cause any problems. Is it possible that skype simply reserves the camera for it's own use, therefore not letting other applications use it even though skype isn't using it itself?
    (1) Because everything worked until you changed Skype, I agree that the problem is with Skype.
Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to your Skype question.
    (2) Unless you get the answer you need here, I suggest you try Skype help.
As you know, Skype is a third-party (non-Apple) products. The best answers for your Skype-specific question should come from Skype:
      https://support.skype.com/
Skype provides comprehensive Help including FAQs, step-by-step instructions, and a searchable knowledge-base. Additionally, Skype hosts dedicated "Forums" about their products. If the users who post there have not already answered your question, they will likely be able to quickly help you.
If all else fails, you can follow the "Get more help" link to directly contact the Skype developer's technical support. They should best be able to tell you how to use their product with your system.
    (3) If your time is valuable, you should immediately seek help from the Skype users who may have shared your trouble and already found a solution. However, if you want to try other ideas before exploring Skype Support, you can reinstall software.
      (a) If you have not already applied the 10.5.8 Combo Update
using the following method, you can do so now:
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install
        http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Test Skype. Reconnect needed peripherals and test again.
(• Turn Time Machine on again when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
      (b) If you haven't downloaded the new Skype again and reinstalled it, you can do so now.
I suggest that you restart Mac and repair permissions before the download.
Because I do not share your problem, I cannot test whether either of these reinstalls can solve anything. However, although they may do nothing to help you, neither can do any harm, and neither costs anything but a bit of time.

  • PhotoBooth - iMovie Black Boxes

I have seen only a few people mention this problem online, and noone seems to get an answer, though at least one person said that completely reformatting seemed to fix the problem, but this isn't an option for me...
I updated my MacBook Pro (17" Mid-2007) and my Mac Pro (8-Core) both to 10.7, and subsequently to 10.7.2
After update, when I open PhotoBooth on my MBP, the effects "Lovestruck" and "Dizzy" have little black boxes (the alpha channel?) showing around the hearts and birds, likewise any 3rd party effects that mask out sections using an alpha (like the popular package that includes a 'mask' allowing your eyes and mouth in the faces of a gorilla, a clown, and Steve Ballmer (a clownish gorilla) only have black spaces where you should be seeing parts of my face. Also, when I use the 4-up photo effect, the image I see, when Photo Booth doesn't crash, is that of two black boxes, one askew above the other. The thumbnail of the image is correct, though.
I have searched all over, but the only other problem people seem to have with Photo Booth involves it opening in 32-bit mode and no effects showing up. This is not the issue I am having, and the problem is not isolated to PhotoBooth, as iChat also exhibits the same problem when I try to use the effects.
I chose to post this question in the iMovie section to hopefully avoid people telling me to 'uncheck 32-bit', and also because the problem affects certain iMovie themes. The Photo Book theme, for instance, refuses to place a photo or video in the opening of the book. It just stays a black box. Also, if I change any text in any of the other themes, then the text is replaced with plain black boxes, or an extremely generic font.
I don't believe this to be an isolated hardware issue, though it may be a conflict with other software. My MBP did this from day 1 of the 10.7 update, but I assumed it was due to the age of my machine, older/slower graphics and RAM, etc. But I recently got a used 8-core Mac Pro, with the 512MB X1900 graphics card and 14GB of RAM. When it arrived, the first thing I did was install 10.7 and the 10.7.2 update. No problems. Installed Final Cut Studio 3 apps, and also Adobe CS5 Master, and iLife 11. At some point during those installs, I opened Photo Booth and showed my wife the Lovestruck and Dizzy effects, which were working fine, later when I went to show the effects to my children, it looked just like my MBP. I opened iMovie, and it also has the same problem. I do not know which apps I installed after showing the effects to my wife, but I do know that the ONLY additional apps that have been installed on this machine are the ones I mentioned. I installed 10.7.2, FCS3, CS5, iLife '11 - oh, and iStat Menus. That's it. I don't know which of these, if any, could be causing the problem, since my MBP does not have iStat Menus installed, and is running Final Cut Studio 2, and Adobe CS4 - both older versions than I use on the Mac Pro.
My iMac shipped with 10.7 and iLife, and has been updated, but I have been reluctant to install my Adobe or Final Cut packages on it for my wife to use, as it is currently the only machine I have that is still able to use iMovie's themes properly for home videos.

I did close and restart firefox when trying to HWA fix yeah, also I have no addons.

  • Photobooth mac mini lion

I recently upgrade to Lion a couple of months. I opened my photobooth application and it was very laggy and slow. Hopefully someone can help me with this problem.

But my big question here is: why isn't this product treated like a seperate product, with it's own forum? or docs on setup? All I can find in how to install/migrate Lion server, but nothing specific to the stuff in the box (preconfigured lion server, two drives, etc.) So do I just try and use the installing Lion Server docs and try and figure out where to jump in?
Also, is there a site where I can go to get answers about the setup itself... I have the PeachPit Apple Pro book, but again, it's really dense. I don't want to be certified, I just want to set up a webserver, learn about Active Directory, set up workgroup access for a small team, set up a media  and mail server. That's it
There is in fact a forum for Lion Server Right here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/servers_enterprise_software/mac_os_x_lio n_server
Just needed to scroll down further on the community list.
    And going here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/lionserver/
is the Lion Server support site.
This forum is for general Mac Mini hardware issues and the
above are for Lion Server issues.  There is no need for
two seperate forums as they already exist.
As for the iMovie issue and MAS, that is the way Apple decided to
move since it is purchasable/upgradable software.

  • IChat and Photobooth effects- Broken! Not all but some

Okay so these effects work while iChatting and while looking at the screen in Photobooth. When you try to take a picture however, the result is either negative or white. The pictures looks alright up top right after its taken but down below when you look at the little polaroid icon the picture is negative or white. Also after you click on the little icon to review the picture it no longer looks fine up top.
    ASCII Art
    Ballmer

    Charcoal
    Clown

I don't want to delete these effects. I know how to do that but I want to keep them! I know the pathways and everything. I think they may just be broken because I now have Snow Leopard. I'm not sure when these were installed but I know it was before I installed Snow Leopard. I think they were downloaded from the Apple website though.
Basically my question is, is there anyway to reinstall these effects or change a setting so that they work?
I could put on a screenshot, I have one I just don't know how to put it into the post. If you can explain then I could add that later if it would help.

    Hi,
    They are the MoreiChatEffects.
They are causing problems in PhotoBooth mainly but also in iChat.
As you know they are in the Compostions folder you will know they are Quartz files.
If you Install Developer Tools off the Install Disk > Options Installs folder you can open them.
It seems they are not fully Intel or rather not fully integrated with the OS in Snow Leopard.
Older Quartz files like the ones that come with this Utility http://www.scriptsoftware.com/chatfx/ DO NOT work with the OS above 10.4.9
Both these seem to be because Apple have made changes in the way the basic Video stream is captured for each OS.
With the Chat FX ones I made a Duplicate (Finder > File Menu) and then played around.
If I was going to do it with these I would take an Apple one and keep the Input model and Output module and replace it with an MoreiChatEffects one to see if I could get it to work in Snow Leopard (Photobooth and iChat).
I would keep an Eye on the web site for more info http://ismileys.free.fr/moreichateffects/
The header seems to say that some may not work.
It does also say Intel but nothing I saw about Snow Leopard.

  • Question Mark for FIrefox Icon in Dock

I needed to reinstall my operating system today--I had some issues when I was doing some updating.
I got everything back and it's running just fine now, however, instead of my Firefox icon in the dock, I have a question mark there now. If I click on it, Firefox opens just fine, and if I put my mouse over it, it tells me it's Firefox so it is useable--it's just that it would be nice to have the icon there instead of a question mark. I also have a question mark there for MSN Messenger but I'm not really that concerned about that missing icon.
Any ideas on what I can do?

Items it the Dock are just short cuts or aliases to the original item. If the original item gets moved from it's original location then you will get a question mark because the alias in the dock is no longer correct. Check and see if Photobooth is still in your Applications folder and if it is still there then do what was said above. Drag the question mark out of the dock and drag the original Application back to the dock creating a new dock alias for it.
