Photobooth trouble

Hi all. I have a minor issue. How come I only get one image in the Pop Art feature of Photo Booth software? I get a completely yellow background with just the upper left hand corner of me in red and yellow. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

You're welcome, Tony.
Thanks for the clear info. It does help me narrow things down a bit.
(a) My first suggestion is that you create a new "test" user account. It does not matter whether this is an administrator account. (If you need help with this suggestions, click the colored text links for more info on the individual topics.)
After you have created the new account, quit all apps and then use the  > Log Out (your accountname) menu choice to log out of your original account and into the new  "test" account.
Then Launch Photo Booth and test to see if the same problem also occurs in the new test account. If the problem is EXACTLY THE SAME in the new account, quit Photo Booth an log back into your original account. Then test Photo Booth one more time. If the problem again appears in your original (administrator) account, try the suggestion in (b) below.
However, if Photo Booth works correctly in the test account but not in your original account, you have a problem with your original (administrator) account. If you post back that Photo Booth works properly in the test account, we will tell you how to proceed.
EDIT: I note that Ralph has already suggested deleting plists, but I leave my specific method in (b) below for your use if you did not quit the apps before deleting the plist files. END EDIT
(b) My second suggestion is for the case where Photo Booth does not work in any user account. In this case, it might be possible that a corrupted Photo Booth Preferences file is causing your problem. Because refreshing preferences is so easy to do, we will try it before attempting any more time-consuming possibilities. Proceed as follows:
Quit Photo Booth (and all other applications) and throw away the Photo Booth Preferences file (com.apple.photobooth.plist) from your Home / Library / Preferences folder. A new preferences folder will be generated when you restart Photo Booth to test whether it works now.
Post back and let us know whether you have tried both suggestions and still have the problem.
We will be watching for your status report.
Cheers,
EZ Jim

Trouble Shooting an iSight Camera.  (Version 3)
Hi,     On many subjects Apple has Articles and Documents that can help.
In some case they are written by an Engineer or similar and can miss the mark for the average user.
In other cases they are crafted, detailed responses to an issue that has popped up many times in the Apple Discussions and take the best from many responses in those User-to-User Discussions, creating something that can not be surpassed.
This is the case of the Apple Article HT2090 on Trouble Shooting an iSight.
It lists steps and processes to go through for both Internal iSights and External ones.
However as with most things it does sometime pay to reword things differently so that people grasp the points in language they understand.
The info here is a reworking itself of two pages at ralphjohns.co.uk/EZ Jim pages namely EZ JIm's page 2 Where can I Find Help With My iSight ? and his page 4, How Can I Test My iSight is Completely Functional ?  which were written several years ago and predate the Apple Article, being aimed at the External iSight.  They have been updated since to address the Internal iSight as well but some of the comments are useful between the two types.
External First.  For Internal iSights Start at 2b)  (you will need to adjust some options/steps as the Internal is USB)
    Steps
    1) Pre Purchase
If buying an External iSight you should if you an get to see it in action.Apple no longer sells the External iSight so you will be buying it second hand.If you cannot get to see the device plugged in and working on  Mac then check the smaller print of the seller and selling site as to nature of Returns and Faulty Goods.
    2) Does it work ?
    a) First of all Plug it in.  It should come with a suitable mount (although there are variants on this) and a 6 pin to 6 pin Firewire cable.
Ideally it should have it's own Firewire port/socket on your computer. Connecting it "DaisyChained" to other devices can be a problem as they do not all use Firewire at the same Data speed.
It will then go through some checks as the OS powers it up and checks it's firmware.
Do not be concerned that the little green indicator light atop your iSight illuminates for a few seconds and then goes dark when you first connect your iSight or power on your Mac. Do not be concerned if you hear a soft whir as iSight attempt to focus either. Both these occurrences are normal. If your iSight passes the following tests, do not worry about this sound or the status of the green light.
There is no ON switch as such.  It does have an iris mechanism that can be controlled by the User.  The iris should be turned so you can see the Lens for the iSight to send pictures to an application.
    b) Pick an Application to see the picture the iSight produces.iChat is one application you can use. Photobooth is another. iMovie (Version 4 or above for external iSight -- Version 6 or above for in-built iSight) and Comic Book (if bundled on your Mac) are yet more.
See this Users Tip for more applications Or this page for yet more.
Photo Booth is probably the simplest as it has no Preferences to choose a camera in the original version and is done from the Menu items in later versions  (nor is there any setting in the OS) and Photo Booth will default to the External Camera if one is plugged in before the application is started.     If you see your self or what the camera is pointing at, It Works !!
    3) If it does Not Work
    a) Check Cables/leads.  Re-seat the cable at both ends. DO this carefully as although Firewire cables are keyed to fit the right way it has been known to force them the wrong way.
Try another 6 pin to 6 pin firewire cable.
    b) Unplug the cable from any other FireWire device and give the iSight it's Own FireWire port/socket on the Mac (exclude issues with other FireWire devices). It is important that this be a port/socket on your computer and that you know that it works. Do not use a port in a FireWire hub or another FireWire device or a FireWire port in an Apple Display for testing.  (Also see d below if you have an 800 FIreWIre Computer)
    c) Check System Profiler (Apple Icon menu top Left > About this Mac. > More Info Button)Open the Reveal Triangles to see the list and go to Hardware > FireWire.  (Use USB for Internal Cameras)
If it appears here try booting or Logging in as another user on the Mac (Create a Test account if you don't have one) and try item 2b) above again.
    d) With FireWire 800 computers you may have to change your FireWire 400 to 800 Adaptor or Cable to get full Audio functionality with Lion Apps
If it is not in the System Profiler you are almost certainly going to need the Trouble Shooting Article from Apple at this point.  This Article may also be of help (number HT1317 What to do if your computer won't recognise a FireWire or USB device).
If you have not resolved things at this stage it is going to be time for an Engineer with Apple credentials. There are no user serviceable parts inside any iSight.
    Other Items
    Audio.
The External Camera has two mics inside. The volume it records at or plays through for iChat is controlled in System Preferences > Sound > Input tab (select device) and this should be set to get the blue response bar to at least half way (preferably three quarters) when you talk. The same applies to any other Mic, even the Internal one on laptops and some other Macs.
    Firmware.
The System Profiler as detailed above should tell you the Firmware the iSight has.  The current version is 1.0.3 and was updated in Panther.  (Essentially it is an Audio compatibility update but does seem to help in other situations)
If your computer is running Panther (10.2.x) then use this Updater
If running Tiger (10.4.x) or Leopard (10.5.x) then navigate manually to your Hard Drive/System/Library/Core Services/iSight Updater and run the updater found there.
If an iSight is Plugged in on the Computer when you do an  OS update and the firmware needs updating on the iSight this app is supposed to be triggered but it seem it may need a hand at times.
    Focusing on the External iSight
Essentially the External iSight is self or Autofocusing.
If in doubt then try better lighting and strong colours as opposes to light or pastels.
(All built-in iSights are fixed focus. Therefore, unless a built-in iSight lens cover is dirty or smudged, any built-in iSight whose image is blurry needs service by an Engineer with Apple credentials.)
EZ Jim has these more specific recommendations for piece of mind.
Make a cross whose lines are about one-half inch or more wide on a plain background to use as a focus target. (I have even used black electrical tape.)
Turn on plenty of light and hold the target very still at about two or three feet from the lens. Watch iSight focus. (You may need to use a tripod or brace yourself to hold the target still enough.)
Then quickly move the target and hold it very still at about one foot away from the lens. Watch iSight focus.
Finally, move in to about six inches from iSight, and check focus there, too. (Holding the target still is more important as you get closer to iSight.)

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Isight photobooth and skype

    Hi,
ever since I got the new version of skype, photobooth won't recognize the built in isight camera. It simply shows a 'no camera' icon in the middle of the screen (photobooth app). However I have found that whenever I quit skype and then restard photobooth or simply start photobooth without having skype running there aren't any problems.
Hope this hasn't previously been discussed however i didn't find anything through the search (both here and via google..)
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

Hi EZ Jim and thank you for the reply!
    You are most welcome, MUCaviator!
And thanks for the Helpful points!
I do realize that only one application may use isight at a time. However while skype may be open it isn't using it (no videochat or anything on and the light next to the isight camera isn't on). With the old version of skype this didn't cause any problems. Is it possible that skype simply reserves the camera for it's own use, therefore not letting other applications use it even though skype isn't using it itself?
    (1) Because everything worked until you changed Skype, I agree that the problem is with Skype.
Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to your Skype question.
    (2) Unless you get the answer you need here, I suggest you try Skype help.
As you know, Skype is a third-party (non-Apple) products. The best answers for your Skype-specific question should come from Skype:
      https://support.skype.com/
Skype provides comprehensive Help including FAQs, step-by-step instructions, and a searchable knowledge-base. Additionally, Skype hosts dedicated "Forums" about their products. If the users who post there have not already answered your question, they will likely be able to quickly help you.
If all else fails, you can follow the "Get more help" link to directly contact the Skype developer's technical support. They should best be able to tell you how to use their product with your system.
    (3) If your time is valuable, you should immediately seek help from the Skype users who may have shared your trouble and already found a solution. However, if you want to try other ideas before exploring Skype Support, you can reinstall software.
      (a) If you have not already applied the 10.5.8 Combo Update
using the following method, you can do so now:
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install
        http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Test Skype. Reconnect needed peripherals and test again.
(• Turn Time Machine on again when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
      (b) If you haven't downloaded the new Skype again and reinstalled it, you can do so now.
I suggest that you restart Mac and repair permissions before the download.
Because I do not share your problem, I cannot test whether either of these reinstalls can solve anything. However, although they may do nothing to help you, neither can do any harm, and neither costs anything but a bit of time.

  • Photobooth greenscreen doesn't work with Logitech C615 Web Camera

I just installed a Logitech C615 HD web cam and I'm trying to use it with photobooth. While the video and sound records just fine when using most effects such as normal, dizzy, frog, blockhead etc., when trying to use any of the effects with moving backgrounds such as Eiffel Tower, Rollercoaster or Sunset, Photobooth says "Detecting Background" very briefly (less than 2 seconds). There is no time for the user to move out of the video for the greenscreen process to work correctly.
What you get is just a video of the Eiffel Tower, Rollercoaster etc, with out the web cam user showing up.
I have tried removing the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist file, but the problem still persists.
I have searched the Logitech web site and while the do mention some compatibilty issues, the problem I'm seeing with Photobooth doesn't seem to be one of them.
    I'm currently running a Mac Mini 5,1 - i5 [email protected] - Mid 2011
    8GB RAM / OS X 10.7.5
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

One or both of these may help you.
    (1)  Perhaps you installed some additional software on your Mac mini to control your Logitech?
If so, that software's driver may be overriding the Mac OS X webcam software and causing trouble with the "fixed focus and exposure and white balance" requirements for using Photo Booth's backdrops shown in http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5610
As one example, Logitech's http://tinyurl.com/ckfesn7 Troubleshooting page advises that their software may limit compatibility with some applications, Photo Booth included.
If you have installed any software beyond that automatically installed by OS X, follow the supplier's instructions on now to uninstall it, restart your Mac, and test again.
    (2) Your problem can also be caused by small, even tiny, movement of your camera:
       http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5607
Movement in the camera's background field of view, even air moving pictures or curtains behind you, can also cause this.
Make sure everything is absolutely still, restart, and test again.

Thanks for letting me know that you found my iSight info helpful, brimx
From your subsequent posts, you seem to have determined that it is unlikely that iSight is the cause of your problems.
With new, different, and unrelated problems appearing across different applications every couple of hours, your software may be damaged.
It is also possible that your hardware is failing, so backup your important files now!
I do not use iNtel Macs or Windows, so I do not know, nor can I test, the answers to your latest questions.
If you do not get the answers you need here and cannot find them in Apple's Intel-based iMac Support page and Boot Camp Support page, you may want to service help from your retailer, Apple, or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider. You will certainly want to get these problems corrected while your Mac is still covered by warranty.
If you want to continue to try to resolve the problems yourself, search or start new topics in the Using your Intel-based iMac Forum.
Because you have such widespread trouble, I would suggest that you concentrate in the iMac forum, but if you can narrow down the problems to one or two issues, you could post in the appropriate forum regarding Boot Camp, Front Row, or Installing & Using iPhoto '08.

I am afraid I do not know the root of the problem. Any help in fixing my problem would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi guys I am not sure if this problem is supposed to be posted here.
Mods please shift this to another thread if this is the wrong location thanks.
I have asked the Hosts to move your topic from iSight to "Using Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard"
Because your problem does not seem iSight related, you may get more help there.
Anyway my photobooth is crashing after I open it... OS Version: Mac OS X 10.6.5 (10H574)...
Here are some ideas that may get your system working again. Consider them in any order:
    (1) If it is relevant, try the "nvm" fix that solved your iPhoto problem:
      http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12091734#12091734
    (2) You do not tell us whether PB previously worked for you. If it did, and if the problem
began after you added new hardware or software, uninstalling the new items may help you
determine whether the new items are causing a conflict. Pay particular attention to recently
added AV plugins because one of them may be causing a problem with your Mac's QuickTime.
    (3) Although your posted system info shows you are using Mac OS X (10.6.4),
the crash report you post shows you are using Mac OS X 10.6.5.
Unless you have compelling reasons for using a superseded Mac OS version,
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Thoroughly test PB and other apps to be sure things are working well.
Depending on how you use your Mac, this may take a week or more.
(• Turn Time Machine on again when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
If you do not want to use 10.6.6, apply the 10.6.5 Combo instead: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
    (4) If you need to post back for other suggestions, please tell us
      • which numbered suggestions (any any others) you have tried that did not work,
      • whether PB is the ONLY app that is giving trouble,
      • whether PB ever worked on this Mac and with its current Mac OS,
      • whether PB crashes in EXACTLY the same way in a new user account,
      • whether QuickTime will record and play audio recordings and video (with audio) clips.
We will offer specific suggestions based on the details in your response.

You cannot "recover" damaged or incomplete Photo Booth files. If you have trashed it, you can take it out of the trash and use it with other Mac applications, but it is hard to put it back into Photo Booth. If you want to see how hard, look at
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9962275&#9962275
Even if you go to the trouble of putting it back into the Photo Boot database, I know of no way to recover or rework any files in Photo Booth. If you need editing capability, use iMovie for videos and iPhoto for snapshots.
The only way I know to use Photo Booth to improve or correct a snapshot or movie clip is to redo it.
If you are having problems saving Photo Booth video files, take a look at the suggestions here:

  • PhotoBooth saving issue

Hi, my photobooth wont allow me to take photos, when i clikc the camera button it pops up with... "Photo Booth encountered an error when trying to save your photos. Your photos cannot be saved at this time.

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Photobooth stopped working on my macbook pro :(

Spinning wheel and computer says application not responding, have to do a force quit.  I deleted the preference list and rebooted, but to no avail.  Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?  My macbook is mid 2010 and is running on snow leopard.  Photo book is working in another account (created one just to see if it would work there) and camera works in ichat.  Also - when I turn computer on, photobooth automatically comes up and tries to open, but this creates the spinning wheel problem and then everything runs slow and battery drains quickly.

    (1) First of all, use your Mac's System Preferences... > Accounts to delete Photo Booth from your Login Items.
After you restart, you can test Photo Booth to see if it works.  I doubt that this change will make Photo Booth work properly in your normal user account, but it will stop Photo Booth from launching automatically at startup or login.
    (2) Although this will not likely correct the problem with your user account either, your posted system shows that you are using Mac OS X (10.6.5).  If this is correct, unless you have compelling reason for now doing so, you should update to the current version of Snow Leopard.  Here is the method I suggest:
    • Unless you have a current backup, make one now.
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Then download and apply the latest Combo Update.
The current Combo for Snow Leopard is here:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems.
    (3) Now to your specific problem.  You have already done some very good troubleshooting.  Your testing seems to show that your normal user account has somehow been damaged.
Because there are many thousands of files in any OS X system, I have never successfully "repaired" a user account. It is faster, easier, and more reliable for me to merely change to a new account that works properly.  Here is how I do it.
First, if you do not already have one, make a current backup of your important files.  If you need help, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
Next, decide whether you want to use one of the existing test user accounts that you already know works.  Renaming account names can cause serious problems, so, if you want a different name for your new everyday user account, it is important to create the account with the name you like.  Test the new account, too, to be sure it is working properly before proceeding.
Now, copy needed data from your backup into your new user account that works.  Begin using this new account as your every-day "main" login account. Do not move or delete anything from the old (damaged) account at this time.
If you must add any third-party items to your new account, add only one at a time. Test thoroughly before adding another third-party item. This technique will help you quickly identify any particular item that might have been the cause of a conflict in your old account.
Use your new account long enough so you can be certain that everything you do with your Mac is working properly in the new account. Depending on how you use your Mac, this can take weeks or even months.
When you are certain that all is well with the new account that is now your normal account, you can throw away your damaged (old) original user account folder to reclaim its disk space.
    (4) If you want to try consider some other possibilities on your own, this article might help you find the root cause of your trouble so you can determine what must be fixed.

  • PhotoBooth not working.

    Hey all :-)
I can't get Photobooth to work. I launch the app and the window shows up normally, but the iSight doesn't seem to be activating - no green light next to the actual camera on the lid, and no image in the Photobooth window, either. I even tried waiting a little while, because past experience has shown that sometimes it takes a few moments to initialize, especially if I've got tons going on. But, no luck. I found a forum thread (elsewhere) where somebody had the same problem, but before he got a reply he reported that after a night in sleep mode it was working okay again. The problem is I would prefer not to wait that long if possible; I could really use the thing tonight :-/
    I'm on a late '07 whitebook running 10.6.8. Any advice appreciated :-)

    •  If you have not already done so, restart Mac and
try again.  If the iSight still does not work, continue.
    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (are you certain that you
used the correct "reset" procedure?), yours is most likely a
hardware problem that will require a professional fix.
Unless you have a current backup, make one now.
Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:
"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."
    • If you want to try one more thing on your own first,
use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then
download and apply the latest Combo Update for
your OS.  Currently, the latest SL Combo is here:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, get help from your AASP.  There are no user serviceable parts of iSight hardware.

  • Photobooth's new video backdrops fragmented

    Hi
I just started using Leopard on my Macbook, and when I use photobooth I am having troubles with the new video backdrops. I move out of the frame as it requests, and it says background detected, but when i move back into the frame my head and the area around it are all fragmented. Its kind of interesting to see what fish moving through my head looks like, but not really what I'm going for... Id love to know what I'm doing wrong here??

Try the previous suggestion of a more plain background, but on some of the screen types like the fish. Try holding your hand over the camera instead of moving. I saw that tip somewhere before and it works on certain effects where only the background is altered. (ie won't work where your face is made upside or inverted or any other effect.) The effects are basically looking to replace what appear in the background. In professional versions this type effect, they use a certain color to depict what to remove. Called Green Screen or Blue Screen. You can improve your effect by having a simpler background behind you when you start.

  • Quicktime won't record video, so won't Photobooth - Related? How to fix

Hi all, hope you can help me.
I use Photobooth to record little movies. It worked fine up until yesterday it stopped recording video's.
The Photo Booth programme openes normally and the isight works with the viewer and the little green light.
You can see the picture, the counter counts down 3,2,1, but then wont record any video and the record timer doesnt work - just shows a black screen in the drop down box.
To Fix - I tried Trashing Photobooth Pref but that hasn't fixed the prob.
I popped into my local Apple store explained it so they said just use Quick time instead.
Popped home, tried to record a movie and i get an error message sying 'cannot be completed or something similar.
I do remember Adobe Flash plugin updating - wonder if that affected it so i Uninstalled it but that hasnt solved it.
Anyone with any advice greatly accepted.
    All the best

You've tried some good things.  Here are some others for your consideration.
Flash has nothing to do with QuickTime or Photo Booth recording, so not to worry.
Sometimes simply restarting Mac fixes things.  If not, consider this:
    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (the "reset" suggested there
often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS,
the current one is at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  For hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Mini-Dvi-to-Video trouble

I just bought a mini-dvi-to-video adapter so I could use my TV as a display. More specifically, so I could use my VCR to record what's on my Mac's display. I also bought a headphone-to-composite cable adapter. I'm using a double-headed (is that one male or female? It's male, isn't it?) composite cable from the video adapter to the VCR. The problem is, it doesn't show up. The sound plays (and records) fine, but the video neither shows up on the TV screen nor records onto the tape. What's the problem? Both adapters are Dynex, my computer's a Late 2006 iMac (I think), the cable is WireLogic, and both the VCR and TV are Sony. Please help, thanks.

So if you eliminate the double headed splitter and plug straight into the TV, does the video still not show up?
FYI, there have been reports in the past of trouble with the Dynex video adapter. You may need to purchase the Apple OEM one. The Dynex may lack having a ROM inside of it with a proper EDID in the ROM. This is crucial to the Mac.

  • Trouble Using Apple's Video Adapter

I am having trouble getting my eMac to work with the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter. There are no directions telling you how to use it or to even get it to work. I want to use it to import videos from my Sony Hi8 camcorder and was told by Apple's Live help that this is what I needed to import video and make DVDs. How do I get this adapter to work?

    Welcome aboard.
I think the adapter you have is for video output, not input. To input video to the eMac you need a firewire connection. Sony cameras typically have a 4 wire connector which is smaller than the 6 wire plug on the mac, so you need a cable that has a 4 wire connector on one end and a 6 wire connector on the other. Cameras often (but not always) come with such a cable. You also need a digital camcorder- not just Hi8., although Sony does make cameras that will do both. If you camera does not have digital output, you need a convertor box.
