Photocasting in Iphoto 6

I have created an account and posted an album, but when my father tries to open the photocast on his account he gets the message: Photocast can not be found on .mac server. He has an Imac G5 with Iphoto 6.
Any suggestions???

Thanks Syth - I was running into problems when clicking on the link in my email, but when I typed the url in manually it worked like a charm.
Great feature - still in 1.0 stage I guess....

  • Will Photocast from iPhoto '06 make a comeback in iPhoto '11

PhotoStream works great on my iPhone and my iMac.
But it only works with my personal photos on my
      personal devices.
Photocast was a feature from iPhoto '06 that allowed others to
subscribe to folders on your iMac and recieve
       automatic updates just like PhotoStream.
Now would be a great time to bring back
PhotoCast to iPhoto '11 and include it in iOS 6!

Thanks for the tip. I hope the iPhoto team brings it back.
The only Apple way to share photos are
      iMessage, email and Photojournals.
Photojournal are cool, but are only viewable
      through the browser when sharing.

  • Photocast Problems - IPhoto 6

I subscribed to two photocasts published from MobileMe. It gives me the names of the two albums but I get this error when trying to update:
The Photocast at http://gallery.me.com could not be found or is invalid.
However, it shows the dashed outline of the correct number of pictures in each album and has the appropriate album name listed.

The error has got no name and no number. The Apple says only, that the translation has breaked down.
Thanks for answering and best regards

  • Deleting Photos in Photocast folder crashes IPhoto

Two pictures I recently put in my Photocast folder are not showing up in Subscribers folders or my subscribed folder. I then added another photo and it worked fine. Does anyone know why and what to do to make them show up?
I decided to try to delete the 2 photos in the Photocast folder. Every time I try to delete the photos in the Photocast folder iPhoto 6 crashes.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    PowerBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

If you delete from iPhoto, and empty the iPhoto trash then
1: The Photo is deleted from the Hard Drive (every version up to iPhoto11)
    or
2: The Photo is sent to the System Trash (iPhoto 11)
The only exception is if you're running a Referenced Library...  What "separate folder in the Finder" are you referring to?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • Photocast URL forces launch of iPhoto 6

When I published a photocast and sent the "invite" email, Macintosh users with iPhoto 6 installed seem not to have the option to use the URL for the RSS feed in any application except iPhoto.
For example, when you copy the URL from the email and paste it into the nav bar in Safari (which can handle RSS) it does NOT go to the feed in Safari, it instead launches iPhoto 6 and sets up the Photocast in iPhoto. Strange, and NOT what I want it to do. Am I doing something wrong? How is this even possible? A URL is just text!?

    Dave,
Yes, thanks, that works. The "invitation" email generated by iPhoto '06 provides a URL that is incorrect to the extent that it appears to be valid only for other Mac users who want to view the photocast in iPhoto '06.
There is a detailed technical explanation from SandyS1 in another thread, "Photocast.mac.com rejects ALL non-Apple RSS readers", that explains what is happening and has info useful to PC users, Mac users without '06, or anyone who wants to view Photocasts via an RSS feed reader.

  • How to Photocast without a .Mac Account?

I'm currently using a .mac free trial, which is how im currently photocasting, from iphoto to iweb to my .mac website.
but i dont think im gonna stick with the .mac account so how can i do photocasting and overall "casting" without a .mac account?
do i need my own personal url site? or what? if so, can myspace work?
any tips would be appreciated. thanks.

You just publish to a folder instead of to .Mac and then upload with an ftp program. Here are some tips:

  • Help - can't see Aperture library in iPhoto

I'm following the directions outlined on
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304446
but not seeing the Aperture library.
Sharing is turned on in Aperture, and I have the latest versions of both software.
A follow-on (probably answered when I get this worked out):
I am assuming I can create a Photocast in iPhoto of files I have modified in Aperture (not the masters). If that happens and I continue to tweak the modified photo within Aperture, will that automatically update the iPhoto Photocast?
Or does iPhoto in essence import a file from Aperture, so its not really dynamic? (or just reference the master or the top of the stack)?
    Thanks so much!

Answering the second question first: You get a media browser with Aperture photos - if you use them in iPhoto you'll have imported them and thus created copies, so no, the changes won't go through to the photocast.
In addition to turning on sharing, you might have to force previews to be generated for your Aperture library. I don't have Aperture but I believe the steps were to hold down Option and choose Generate Previews, forcing Aperture to create previews. I read this on a discussion that was in essence complaining about how slow Aperture is to generate previews - I guess if you didn't notice, then no previews were actually created. I think the preference you set might have been to apply it to newly imported photos, not existing ones.
There's a task progress window or something that tells you it's generating previews. I'm not sure if it appears automatically or you have to bring it up.

  • Photocast won't update

    Hi
I've got a few smart albums set as photocasts, but iPhoto is not updating them as I add new pics. It used to work ok when I had normal albums. It won't let me choose the automatically update checkbox.
Does anyone know if it is possible to update these photocasts without having to un-publish and then re-publish them?
    Many thanks!

Okay, I uninstalled, rebooted, slept, installed and now I have an error message that "iTunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
Newer than what I downloaded yesterday from the website?????????
If the phone hadn't been so expensive I'd be thinking about throwing it away and going back to Nokia!
    Can you help???

  • The Photocast could not be found on .Mac server

I have launched a photocast. All seems ok at my end but when I use another mac to view, this is the message received. Any ideas please?

Here's a cool new way to do photocasting with iPhoto:
    1) Go to twango.com and create a free account.
    2) Upload some photos to a channel
    3) While looking at the thumbnails in a channel with Safari, click the RSS link in the URL line (or click the RSS link at the bottom of the page)
    4) Add the following to the URL: "&mediasize=original"
    5) Copy the link
    5) Now go to iPhoto and Subscribe to Photocast and paste in that link (with the mediasize=original parameter at the end)
    6) iPhoto will download the first 20 images from the feed. You can copy them to an album, print them, whatever.
These photos will refresh whenever the channel is updated. When new photos appear, they will appear at the top of the stack in the Photocast. But images that you have copied over to albums remain in iPhoto.
Hint: you can use the "count" parameter if you want to see more photos at a time in your photocast. As an example, use iPhoto to subscribe to this link:
    feed://feeds.twango.com/rss/feed.aspx?type=channel&tab=media&channelname=jim.sto ck&mediasize=original&count=25
    Cool huh?

  • .mac and iPhoto Publishing

Recently I subscribed a .mac trial account because I wanted to try iWeb and iPhoto 6 Photocasting.
When I publish a webpage from iWeb to .Mac, it'll pop up the login window, asking me to login. I clicked the login button and i typed my .mac account information. I tried to publish again and the same thing happens (.Mac account said my password is valid)
When I select an album and share by photocasting in iPhoto, it says I haven't set up my account (again, I input info. in my .mac settings already).
What's going on? Trial account won't work with iLife?
But I can use my iDisk... that's so weird...
    What's wrong?
    GummyDancer
(I posted this in both iWeb, iPhoto and .Mac sections. Posted on .Mac section about 2 weeks ago)

This may not be the right way to do it but I have a solution that works for me. I've had a little trouble trying to describe it; but the essential aspect is that the 2 calendars are actually calendar groups which have sub-calendars which are unique to them and there is one calendar which is 'shared' between them. To publish them I drag the shared calendar to the calendar group that I want to publish, click the button and when it's finished I drag it to the other one and then publish that. This enables both calendars to appear with the shared info without the need for double entries.

  • Photocasting - Limitations and a problem

First of all, I am hoping that someone would confirm for me my suspicions regarding photocasting with iPhoto 6 (since I can't seem to find any information published by Apple to this effect).
    1. Photocasting stores photos on your .mac iDisk
    2. Smart albums cannot be photocast.
    3. The album cannot be bigger than the remaining capacity of your iDisk
In addition to these questions, I have an additional issue. I am trying to publish an iPhoto album containing 379 MB of photos. The computer in question is an iMac G5 20" running 10.4.4 and iPhoto 6. My iDisk has 430 MB of space left. If I am correct in my above assumptions, then it shouldn't be a problem. However, every single time I have tried to publish this photocast, I get the following error message:
"An error occurred while publishing the album. Request to .mac server failed after trying for 30 seconds."
I'm confused. The internet connection is good (cable connection running at least 4 Megs), and I can easily connect to my iDisk to see what's on it.
    Can anyone help me troubleshoot?

I see there has been no activity on this since March 6th. I have the thirty second problem every time. I do not use energy saver or screensavers when I am working on-line. I have plenty of space in iDisk AND am trying to load a twenty picture album. Does anyone have a suggestion?

  • Where did the link to Mail go!!?

OK. I am totally confused and lost, and getting very frustrated.
I can no longer simply go to Mail via Safari.
    I go here:
    http://www.apple.com/
and there is no link to mail.
So I click Mac. And it takes me to this:
    http://www.apple.com/mac/
Still no sign of Mail. I am looking all over this page. There is a “Why You’ll Love a Mac,” “watch ads,” .Mac, but it is not a link. Under that is a link to log in (I am already logged in but, ok, I’ll try it anyway.)
That takes me to http://www.apple.com/dotmac/. STILL NO SIGN OF MAIL! Instead, it’s a bunch of prompts for signing up for a .Mac account. (I have one and have had for three years.)
    Where is mail?

    But, Simon...
where is the link to mail?
I did use your link (as I have before) but nowhere on this page is there a link to mail. Is it hidden somewhere? Is it a secret? All I see are ads for using .Mac.
    This is what I see:
    • Tour .Mac
    • One-click web publishing
    • Photocast with iPhoto
    • Exchange files from anywhere
    • Communicate Apple style
    • Bring groups together
    • Stay in sync
    • Backup your life
    • How it works
    • .Mac in action
    • Membership options
Where the heck is Mail? And why did Apple decide to make it so difficult to find?

  • Where did the old left click shortcut go - to 'make link'?

Aloha, Please tell me if there is a way to make a link like there was prior to installing the 10.4.11 update.
Before i installed that update i was able to press control & click and the pop up menu would give me the quick option 'make link' from the link text i typed. Now, since i have installed the update, it is gone and some of my links don't automatically become links; in email they seem to but on, for example, myspace they do not.
Please tell me if there is a shortcut to get to that sweet, quick and easy old 'make link' option.
    many mahalo's

  • MobileMe Gallery + Smart Folder; why doesn't it automatically update?

I used to use Photocasting on iPhoto 6. This worked great in that I published a photocast of a smart folder and any new items that matched the smart folder were automatically published.
I upgraded to iPhoto '08 specifically so that people could subscribe to an album via RSS and have it work on any computer.
Unfortunately, with iPhoto '08 the MobileMe Gallery doesn't seem to remember that it was based on a smart folder and I have to manually add additional pictures to publish in the MobileMe Gallery.
What am I missing? All I want is to have a smart folder automatically publish all new matches to an RSS feed for my friends & family to see new pics.
Please advise as to how anyone is able to accomplish this.

MobileMe galleries are separate from the album that you initially use to create them. Any photo added to the album also has to be manually added to the gallery. It's the nature of the beast. You can put in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
