PhotoCDs (PCD)
OK, before anyone shoots me, I know this has been asked a million times on this (and many other formats) BUT.....
What are the best settings within CS4 for importing PCD files?
I have about 400 archieved photos which I wish to re-archieve in a better (more compatible) format.
I have installed the Kodak dlls and can load the pictures but they all look really washed out (the thumb looks ok).
The best settings I have found so far are importing max res with Standard photo YCC print from Kodak as source and ProPhoto RGB (Kodak) as destination.
Once I have them can anyone suggest the best achieve format?
I have used uncompressed TIFF but was wondering if there is a better alternative (Images will be burnt directly to disk so I'm not sure if the JPEG recompression issue matters). I do not want to modify the image in anyway for the achieve.
Thanks for any help.
Thumbs Plus will open Kodak Photo CD files. It will then allow you to save them in a
variety of formats.

in /etc/cups/mime.types and /etc/cups/mime.convs. I googled it could help, but not in my case.
I can print some files using cupsdoprint or lp without -o argument. But I cannot print any odt or pdf files. Only plain text.
The only error that shows up in cups logs is:

I googled all the net, and I didn't find a solution, so I really count on you guys.# "$Id: mime.convs 5402 2006-04-14 19:21:03Z mike $"

I have several old Kodak Photo CD with PCD image files. I am now using Photoshop CS5. Some years ago while using Photoshop CS4 I copied a file: "Photo CD.8BI" from an older, CS2, version to the Plug-ins/File Format folder of CS4. This does not appear to work with CS5. Any fix?
It can be made to work, but you have to run the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5, and as I recall there's an additional DLL called pcdlib32.dll that's needed from the old installation.

I have a few old PhotoCDs I'd like to import into Lightroom or open into Photoshop. CS4 does not have that option in the normal "open" box. I did some Internet searches on the topic and one said Adobe included the command as a Goodie in CS3.
I put my original CS4 disk in the DVD drive and got the option to install Photoshop, I didn't click OK fearing it would immediately start overwriting the current install.
So, here are a couple of questions:
1. Is there a Goodie in CS4 to load that will allow me to open old PhotoCD images?
2. If so, when I start the "Install Photoshop" command on the DVD, will I get a seconadary screen allowing me to pick goodies to add?
3. If I have a CD with lots of PhotoCD files, it there a quick and easy way to download all of them as a batch?
All things considered, I'd probably only really need the command to be able to open or import a single file off a CD. I have one of the Corel Mega Collections of Images and I seem to recall them being photo CDs.
Thanks,
M. JacksonHello all,
I think I found all the info I need with the help of this forum and the "related posts" on the right of the screen after I posted the question.
According to one of the threads, the old plug-in in CS3 still works in CS4, so I pulled out the old disks and found the plugin in the Goodies folder and followed the instructions in the ReadMe file. I now have PCD in my Open list.
I'll try it out on one of the disks on my desk.
The Corel Collection 1 consisted of roughly 100 CDs. I doubt I'd ever want to convert all of them, but I'd hate to totally loose access to the files on them.
It would be nice if Adobe would go ahead and include the plug-in for all future releases, even if most responses have stated it is a dead file format.
Thanks again to all,
M. Jackson -
I have an old Kodak Photo CD (1999) and Photoshop Elements 11 on Windows 7. How can I open the .pcd images?
Please help me open these photos. They are very important to me and I need to access them.
If I can't do it with any of the software installed on my computer, would someone be willing to open them, save them as jpgs and send them to me?
Thank you so much, NancyYou can get the plugin here by downloading the Extra Content for Photoshop CS3 File 2
Just be sure to follow Note:Very Important Instructions or the link won't work.
http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
After downloading the PHSPCS3_Cont_WWE.exe, double click on it to extract the contents, probably to your desktop.
Then in the Goodies folder, Optional Plugins folder, you'll see the Kodak PhotoCD folder
Open that and copy the Photo CD.8BI to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Plug-Ins
Copy the profiles to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles -
Now that Kodak apparently isn't going to update the PCD acquire module for Intel Macs, I wanted to put in a request that the next rev of DNG convert the PhotoYCC image pack into DNG. I think this is possible after a conversation with Thomas awhile back. Even if I can only get to the high rez Base16 image pack, that would be better than having to run CS3 under Rosetta.
It would be pretty slick to use Lightroom or CR as a new acquire module too.Actually one doesn't have to keep buying more and more software to view,
edit and use the images we make. Once just needs to choose open standard
formats. TIFF, JPG, DNG, etc. TIFF and JPG are easy just about every program
that uses an image for whatever purpose will use them. DNG even if your
camera doesn't shoot in DNG the DNG Converter from Adobe is free and is
updated with every new release of ACR. So converting the propritary formats
that camera companies like to use is not an issue and doesn't cost any
money. Once that is done using DNG file is just as easy and nearly as an
available option as TIFF and JPG.
The problem the OP has is that he/she decided to trust Kodak and once again
Kodak has shown their true colors and have proven that one can not only not
trust them, but can't trust their product and formats. Stick to open formats
and all is well.
PhotoCD is dead and has been for at least 5 years. I see no reason of any
kind for Adobe to waste valuable time and money or supporting a format that
is dead. Instead the OP needs to stop complaining and convert his PhotoCD
images to a format like TIF before he losses the ability to do so.

Hi everybody,
I just switched from Win to Mac. So I have no older version of Photoshop for Mac.
In CS4 the PCD-Plugin is missing. If I could get the plugin from an older version of Photoshop for Mac, I could copy it to my plugin-folder and use it for my old PCD's. Can anyone tell whow I can get the PCD-Plugin for Photoshop or mail it to me?
ThanksGoogle told me this:
"Graphic Convertor X opens almost 200 formats, including, IIRC, PhotoCD. It's available for download at:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/morein…" -
Trying to open Kodak PCD files in CS4 with no luck. Is there a plugin available for this? I've checked out a few older threads discussing CS3, as well as a few links to the Kodak website. Nothing has worked so far.
Thanks in advanceKODAK no longer supports PhotoCD or the file format plug-in.
http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/professional/products/ekn017045.jhtml?CID=go&idhbx= photocd
We recommend that users batch convert the PCD files into Tiff or another format using an old version of PS on a supported OS and hardware. -
Hallo,

How to store text field data from web dynpro application in pcd ?
Hi Forum,
I am new to web Dynpro.
I want to store user specific data (a text field value) from a wd application in PCD and access it every time the user runs the application.How can I achieve this?
Thanks,
Mickey.Hi
I created the "read" and "update" methods in my application service. How can I call them? I created and implemented the methods just like here: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/340fc0ea-0c01-0010-74bf-965b11031e77
Operations:
- readMyEntityService:
- updateMyEntityService
Implementation:
retValue = getMyEntityService().read(key);
getMyEntityService().update(dS0);
In Web Dynpro there is this update method with the code above (in my original post).
How can I call the update-method????????
Kind regards

Now I understood your question. As of now, I think there is no api which creates workset and roles in pcd. API are available for iView, page, system and layout only.
For creation of iView, page etc, check this blog.
PCD II: Creating Portal Objects
For role and workset creation, there is another tool used. Check these blogs.
SP15: XML Content and Actions
Mass Creation of Portal Content - Generic Creator
If you want to use this tool functionality in code, then check this blog.
Using the XML upload content and actions dynamically
If you are on NW7.1, then check this article.

Hope these will help. Good luck.

How can I fetch all the PCD roles from EP!
Hello,
I need to fetch all the available pcd roles in EP. Right now I am trying to fetch pcd roles under Portal Content directory. I need a clarification whether this is the only place the pcd roles are available or is there any other location where rest of the pcd roles are available?
Thanks in advance,
Prashanth V SwamyHi Prasanth,
See the code below to retrieve all the pcd roles.
public List getPCDContents(IPortalComponentRequest request) throws Exception{
try{
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put(IPcdContext.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, request.getUser());
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,IPcdContext.PCD_INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
env.put(com.sap.portal.directory.Constants.REQUESTED_ASPECT, PcmConstants.ASPECT_SEMANTICS);
InitialContext ctx = null;
DirContext dirCtx;
List roleList = null;
ctx = new InitialContext(env);
dirCtx = (DirContext) ctx.lookup("pcd:portal_content/");
PcdSearchControls pcdSearchControls = new PcdSearchControls();
pcdSearchControls.setReturningObjFlag(false);
pcdSearchControls.setSearchScope(
PcdSearchControls.SUBTREE_WITH_UNIT_ROOTS_SCOPE);
dirCtx.addToEnvironment(
Constants.APPLY_ASPECT_TO_CONTEXTS,
Constants.APPLY_ASPECT_TO_CONTEXTS);
NamingEnumeration ne =
dirCtx.search("","(com.sap.portal.pcd.gl.ObjectClass=com.sapportals.portal.role)",
pcdSearchControls);
iViewList = new ArrayList();
while (ne.hasMoreElements()) {
IPcdSearchResult searchResult =
(IPcdSearchResult) ne.nextElement();
String location = "pcd:portal_content/" + searchResult.getName();
//Get the full pcd path of the iview.
roleList.add(location);
return iViewList;
}catch(Exception e ){
throw new Exception(e);
Hope it helps.

Files downloaded from the KM have iView pcd location instead of filename
Hello,
I have created a Filesystem Repository manager and a KM Document that reference one of the excel file over there. The problem is that when a user opens the iView and saves the file the suggested name is not the filename but this one:
pcd!3aportal_content!2fgpd_content!2fvalrep_content!2froles!2fZGPD_VALREP_US1!2f00000005!2f00000006!2fZGPD_VALREP_US1_00000007
which is the entire iView location in the pcd...
Any idea how can I change it to be the file name?The server can send a suggested filename though the HTTP "Content-Disposition" header Apparently, the IView you are using doesn't do that (not sure whether this is part of KM or the portal).
PS: sadly, one specific very popular browser doesn't support this properly for non-ASCII characters, so it's non-trivial to get this working properly with all browsers.

Benefits of table partitioning on ASM controlled storage?
Hi everyone, I understand that, as the documentation describes, table partitioning for the purpose of striping is a very good strategy for high performing OLTP databases. So you can explicitly assign partitions to different database-files, residing o
