I am a photographer and have huge files so  have had to buy a GRAID 4TB for backup and now have an old 2 TB time capsule not doing anything. Could I use the timecapsule as storage and transfer say a few years of images over to that and free up space on my imac.  I do have the images copied onto other hard drives but feel I need more copies in case of external harddrive failure.

Could I use the timecapsule as storage and transfer say a few years of images over to that and free up space on my imac.
Can't give you a definite answer as I don't use a Time capsule, but if it is not being used for anything, why not try it out? My guess is you could use it for miscellaneous storage if you wanted to.

I have photoshop CS4 with the newest update. I'm a photographer and just purchased the new canon 7d mk II. Today, I shot some photos on raw but am unable to pull them up in photoshop. A window pops up saying "photoshop cannot recognize this type of file. The thumbnails are white with a blue and white CR2 on them. Please help.

Adobe Camera Raw 5.7 is the latest for Photoshop CS4 Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows
The problem is that your new camera is supported by ACR 8.7 and only Photoshop CS6 and up supports this version.
So if you do not want to buy CS6 or subscribe to the $10/month Photography Program, you have to convert the CR2 files to DNG to work on them. Your original CR2s are untouched in the process, you just can't directly edit them in CS4, only the DNGs.
Maybe Canon offers editing software for their CR2s, but CS4 is not going to be updated and there is no way around that.
It's not what you want to hear, but that's the situation so far.
Maybe Elements or Lightroom has updated raw support for your camera, so I encourage you to visit those forums and ask.

  • PPCI and PM01

    Hi gurus-
My understanding about the TC's PPCI and PM01 is as follows:
PPCI- Transaction code for creating custom infotypes in OM.
PM01- Transaction code for creating custom infotypes in PA.
Is that correct or am I missing something??
    Thanks.
    Ramesh.

Hi Ananath you care missing something... you can't create directly OM infotypes through PPCI, before you have to create the table structre in SE11, then only it is possible to create OM Inofyptes through PPCI.
    Thanks

  • I need to get the Adobe Camera Raw to convert my Raw shots to jpeg.  Do I buy Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop CC?  I am not a professional photographer and am only using photoshop sparingly.

I need to get the Adobe Camera Raw to convert my Raw shots to jpeg.  Do I buy Photoshop CS6, Photoshop CC or can I just get simply the ACR?  I am not a professional photographer and am only using photoshop sparingly.  I currently have an old version of Photoshop, the Photoshop CS4.  Thanks.

The program would stop, but the files would remain on your computer. Before stopping, you could do a batch convert to tiff or png, with a strong recommendation for tiff. Png only support transparency whereas tiff supports layers, live type, transparency, etc.
Keep in mind the app you open the tiff file in may not support all of those features, but it could if they tried.
The psd files I would backup to a cd or dvd before removing for space, but if you have the room, keep them as some apps do support psd files.
Best part is when you are ready, you can start your subscription again and use all of those files once again.

I am looking for software to store photos with.  I am not a fancy photographer, and really am just looking for the digital version of a photo album. iPhoto is not cutting it, mainly because it does not back up and restore easily on an external HD.

That's how Time Machine and iPhoto now work.  Restore the library to one of the external HDs, check it for the photos you want, export them to the boot drive and delete the restored library.
If you know the file name of the photo you're looking for you can search for them in the TM backup using Find Any File.
My workflow allows me to do that:
1 - upload new photos to a folder on the Desktop.
2 - name the folder to represent the contents and date: 01/03/10-Toads Bday
3 - use a file renaming app to sequentially rename the photos in the folder to: 2010-01-03-Toads Bday-001.JPG,  -002,JPG, -003.JPG,  etc.
4 - import the folder into iPhoto creating an Event with the same title as the folder.
Now I can search for those file by file name with any app of my choosing.

I am a keen photographer and I have just bought you SD card reader for ipad. This works well but was winding if there is an app that I can view the images on the SD card full screen without having to import them to the iPad or is there a way to do this on the iPad
The reason for buy this was for when I was out and about to get a better view off my images.
    I have a iPad 2 16gb
    Hope you can help!
    Thanks

A couple of weeks ago, (after reading a review in TUAW) I bought a wireless hub/ SD card reader called RAVPower.  its app comes with a built in viewer, so you can load it up, and see the pics full screen.

  • Importing Photographs and Storage of same?

I have become increasingly disillusioned with how iPhoto stores photographs and generally manages them, but I like its presentation, and the ease of creating smart albums.  I've investigated almost every other possible option on the market but for management, iPhoto seems to be best.
    My question is this:
If I choose to import photographs and NOT copy them to iphoto (which I have done with a large number of photographs this morning)... in the future when I choose to open a camera in iphoto, will the photographs be copied to the existing folders, or will the photographs be placed in the iphoto library?  I don't want them there, I want them to be in the Pictures folder, under their year/month/day folders.
I am prepared to use imagecapture.app to import them, and import manually to iPhoto later, if necessary.
    Thanks for any help

iPhoto is definitely not the app for you.
I wanted to simplify things, and make it easier to get rid of stuff I dont want...
That's what the iPhoto trash is for.
like duplicates of every file I edit (and god help me if I edit more than once).
Iphoto (and Lightroom is the same btw) is all about a managed, lossless workflow. Key to that is preserving the original file at all costs. You might want to consider why, if you want to directly edit original files, you are using applications specifically designed to prevent you doing that.
Also, I do access the Library and I hate the fact that Lion has made it inaccessible unless you use third party applications to get in there.
There is no need to use 3rd party apps to access the Library, so frankly, I'm not sure what you mean here. Lion didn't change the layout of the Library, this changed back in 2007 with iPhoto 08. And, again, as you seem to want to directly access the files via the Finder, it's clear that you'll be happier using a File Manager rather than a Photo Manager.
I would caution you though, you're confusing these files with the Photos therein, and it's going to cause you problems if you use a Photo Manager.
So much crud gets left behind when you are uninstalling applications, access is needed for a darn good cleanout from time to time.
Well there are a couple of interesting thoughts in there. One, this is the iPhoto Library you're talking about, so what that has to do with uninstalling applications I have no idea, and two, I've no idea what the computer version of a "darn good cleanout" actually is.
As far as iPhoto shots are concerned, I like to back them up on a separate drive which is not associated with the iPhoto library at all, and I dont see a thing wrong with this
Nothing wrong with it at all. Have you explore the File -> Export options for doing this? No?
Its not Apple's way... its MY way.  And it wont affect my shots at all.
So, it is Apple's way too. There you go.

  • HT5527 PHOTOGRAPHS and VIDEOS in the iCloud?

Can i save PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS on the iCloud?    If so, how?

    No.
Photos and videos on the camera roll can be included in backups to icloud, but you can't access them individually other then to perform a complete restore (all the data) from the backup to the device (and this involves first erasing all device data before the backup is restored).
There is photo stream, which is used to sync photos from one device to another and shared photo stream where others can have your photos added to their photo data on their devices.  But icloud does not have a photo gallery.
Photos and video should always be synced to a computer or other cloud service (e.g. Dropbox) for archiving.  iCloud is not recommended for archiving, since photo stream for example only keeps up to 1000 photos and up to 30 days after which the servers remove them.

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way; I mean it positively, from my own experience as a user and trainer: The "finer points" of difference between software products that seem to do similar things, are not trivial! My French teacher told us that there are some important rules, like, "All nouns that end in 'e' are feminine! (pause) EXCEPT..." and then he gave some of the many common exceptions.
X-number of years doing <whatever> usually means X-number of years doing what I've learned to do and what behaves as I've learned to expect to behave. Those solid lessons and habits sometimes interfere with seeing other possible approaches, techniques, and outcomes for the same starting points. It's terribly frustrating to find that your reliable tools aren't effective. If you ever were comfortable with driving a stick-shift car, then changed to an automatic-transmission car, think of how many times you were surprised and frustrated when you stomped your left foot onto a non-existent clutch, until you adjusted to your new environment.

A Document is a single file, which can contain one or many pages. Pages appear in "spreads" that can contain from one to ten pages. To save a document, use the File > Save or Save As... commands -- nothing odd about that.
Are you familiar with the concept of the Master Page? Master pages are like templates for pages. Put stuff on the master page, then any document page based on that master page will have those elements in place (but they will not be selectable without overriding). You can hover a loaded "Place Gun" over an empty master frame and click, and the ID will automatically override that frame and put the content into it.
Some people are comfortable thinking of a master page as a background that "shows through" on the document pages that the master is applied to.
By default, every new document starts with two master pages, [None], which is used when you have other masters and you need a page with no master items, and A-Master which is the default name for the default master page applied to any pages when you first create the document. It starts out blank, unless you've checked the box for automatic text frame in the document setup, then it will have a single text frame that fills the are inside your margin guides. If you've selected "Facing pages" in Document setup, A-Master will actually be a two-page spread (with the spine in the center) and any automatic text frames will be "threaded" from left to right across the spread so that you can "autoflow" text. Automatic text frames are NOT required in most cases and are often a hindrance rather than a help. Page setup, including dimensions, margins, columns, and bleeds, is all together in the document setup dialog when you first create a file (you are creating the margins and columns for A-Master), but not all pages need to have the same margins or column setup (nor even the same size as of CS5), so once a document is created, you'll find margin and column adjustments under the Layout Menu. Changing the basic page size is still found under the Document Setup command in the file menu, but adjusting the size of an individual page in CS5 is done with the Page tool.
A Book, in InDesign parlance, is a container for a group of document files that allows you to work on sections without having to scroll through one huge file and also allows for synchronizing colors, styles and even master pages across all the files in the Book. Individual documents may be included in more than one book, if you like, which allows you to multi-purpose documents.
For some users, the idea of a book as a container for a group of files, thinking of the book as a folder, is fine. But other users may be more comfortable thinking of a book as a list of file names that should be treated as a single group, and the instructions for paginating, and applying other properties to them.
Trust me, InDesign is a VERY complex bit of software, and you'll benefit immensely form buying Sandee's book or getting a subscription to Lynda, com.
I like to think of InDesign as a pretty straightforward software application, and that its sheer number - several hundred - of specialized "core" plug-in components is what makes it complicated. There's at least a bit of learning necessary to take advangage of each  of these "building blocks."
Please keep returning with your questions as you progress.
