Photographers: Don't Forget To Set Your Camera Clocks Back

With the change this weekend to Standard Time, clocks we sometimes forget to set (for those of us who prefer our "time taken" fields to be accurate) are those in our cameras.
Do any cameras automatically make the change? Even cheap watches do that nowadays.

I carry two bodies when working events, and try to keep the time coordinated between them so I can upload the files to the same folder, and sort them by time taken in Bridge. It's a great idea, but for some reason it does not seem to work that well, and I have not been able to work out why.
BTW About two years ago we extended our Daylight saving period by a couple of weeks at each end, and not being an early riser, I love it.

Just a reminder to update any IPTC metadata templates you might be using. I'm using PSE 3 on a Mac, and I use the File Browser to apply an IPTC copyright notice to every image I take. (Hey, I might be famous some day. ;-) )

Well, Santa sent a raincheck. :-) That's the bad news. The good news is that the lens is back-ordered because it's Sigma's latest and greatest DG model that's "optimized" for digital SLRs. It's supposed to have a coating on the rear of the lens to reduce reflections from the sensor. So I'd rather wait and get the newest lens.
I did get some interesting photos of water skiers and war protesters with another lens, though.

Don't forget to DEFRAG your Hard Drives!!!

I upgraded to 1.1 about 3 weeks ago. I had noticed that it was slower in showing 1:1 previews and using develop than 1.0. So I tried optimized the DB. that helped, a little.
Then early this morning I was doing regular computer maintenance and realized that I had not defragged my drives for about 5 weeks. I usually do them at least once a month. Well, after defragging all drives/partitions LR was moving at good speeds again.
In 1.0 my times were as follows:
1:1 previews----- about 3 seconds
Time to fully resolved image in Develop----- 3-4 seconds
After installing 1.1 but before the defrag the timings were as follows:
1:1 Previews------- about 7 seconds
Time to fully resolved image in Develop----- about 7-9 seconds
Now with 1.1 AND defragged drives:
1:1 previews------- about 3 seconds
time to fully resolved image in develop about 3 seconds
As you can see just a defragged HD cut my wait time by more than half!
So remember--- Defrag your HD's regularly

It's tough to be clear in these brief posts ! My workflow involves looking over a group of images as thumbnails and throwing out the obvious junk. Then I enlarge the thumbnails a bit and further elliminate near duplicates. I view good images in a FIT to window size in the Library module and make adjustments to exposure, coloration, cropping etc in Develop. When the RAW workflow is complete I open any images I want to in PS and do any final adjustments, layering, effects, and lastly sharpening. Sharpening is about the only time I go in and view images at 100%. Occasionally I'll take a Lightroom Image and look at it 100% instead of Fill. If I do that with 1 image and then, from the Grid I double click on another to open it at 100% view, it is virtually instantaneous. It starts out not being 100% tack sharp, but that normally takes maybe a third of a second but it can take up to 3 seconds to get the full sharp resolution. If I am in the Library and hit "D" to go to develop, the image pops out instantly and then the full resolution sharpness takes from 1-3 seconds but I don't even hardly notice that change since I'm already moving toward the Basic Develop module to make some adjustment I see. In terms of workflow I am not waiting at all at any time other than when I import a group of 1000 images or so.
I defrag my image hard drive by wiping a backup and copying one drive to another, then that clean drive is the new default data drive. I check the copy with Disk Utility and Disk Warrior before a trust it. :0) It's much faster to do that than to use any of the defrag tools I have known.

Don't Forget To Reset Your DVR!!

I know this has been a known issue, but I reset my DVR the other day and it went from 77% full down to 48%. I always knew this occured but I was shocked that it was off by so much. I wonder what makes this happen. How often does everyone in here reset their DVR?

How to u set your alarm clock but not have the phone or txt go off

Hi, My old phone Blackberry had an alarm. I would set it and then shut the phone off. The phone would turn itself on when the alarm had to go off.
IPone 4 will not do that. So, how do I set the alarm and not have the phone ring or get text alerts. I cannot figure out how to do this.
How do you delete pictures that are not on the camera roll there is a garbage can for those but not for other picture. I have double from synching too many times, this is my first Apple and I am not finding it easy to use.

I do not understand everything you are saying. What is "itunes wiped it; from restoring it" mean?
If you synced your iPod after you took the photos the photos should be in the iPod backup and you should be able to get them back by restoring your iPod from backup.

Can BootCamp beta be installed on Tiger by setting the clock back?

I have a MacBook, it is about one year old. I have been running BootCamp on with with XP Pro/SP2 since the day I got it, and it has always worked fine.
Now, however, for a few reasons, I want to wipe my hard drive clean completely - set the partitions back to being one partition, format everything, install Tiger, install BootCamp, install XP, etc.
I am concerned about BootCamp though, as the beta has expired and I don't intend on getting Leopard anytime soon.
If I try to open the BootCamp assistant, it obviously says that it's expired. I've often heard that you can get around it by setting the system clock back to 2007. I did so, and I got the following common error message:
"The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partion..."
I've read that this usually means that there's something wrong with the way your partitions are set up...but I have only two partitions, the OSX partition and the XP partition as the BootCamp Assistant itself set up a year ago. I've never had any trouble booting into Windows, and I've never had any problem with BootCamp before this. I don't know what could be causing this, but I'm thinking if I'm going to wipe the entire hard drive clean, I might as well just use disk utility to delete the XP partition and go from there.
But I don't want to wipe my hard drive if I can't use BootCamp again afterwards, so my real question is this: If I wipe my hard drive completely, install OSX, and then
1.Set the system clock back to 2007
2.Install BootCamp Beta
3.Run BootCamp Assistant to make the partitions, install XP
4.After XP Installation, set the OSX clock back to its appropriate time
WILL THAT WORK?
I need a definitive answer to this, and it's no, is there any other way I can accomplish what I'm trying to do?

Camera app can't be delete its a built in IOS. I would try searching your apps folder and see if its in there.
If you still can't find it go to settings - general - reset - reset home screen layout - WARning doing this will remove all your apps from the folder and you will have to redo it, but at least you get your camera app back.

Is there a way to remove your sim card if you don't have the tool that came with your phone? I wanted to see if I could upload my old information to the iCloud, by putting the new sim card into the old phone, since I didn't before I updated my new phone.

Any metal clip will do. Insert the tip in the little hole next to the Sim Card and press FIRMLY. The SIM drawer will pop out.

When you said you used the Reg Exp tool, did you use it only as
preconfigured by the iMT migrate application wizard?
Because the default configuration of the regular expression tool will only
target the files in your ND project directories. If you wish to target
classes outside of the normal directory scope, you have to either modify the
"Source Directory" property OR create another instance of the regular
expression tool. See the "Tool" menu in the iMT to create additional tool
instances which can each be configured to target different sets of files
using different sets of rules.
Usually, I utilize 3 different sets of rules files on a given migration:
spider2jato.xml
these are the generic conversion rules (but includes the optimized rules for
ViewBean and Model based code, i.e. these rules do not utilize the
RequestManager since it is not needed for code running inside the ViewBean
or Model classes)
I run these rules against all files.
See the file download section of this forum for periodic updates to these
rules.
nonProjectFileRules.xml
these include rules that add the necessary
RequestManager.getRequestContext(). etc prefixes to many of the common
calls.
I run these rules against user module and any other classes that do not are
not ModuleServlet, ContainerView, or Model classes.
appXRules.xml
these rules include application specific changes that I discover while
working on the project. A common thing here is changing import statements
(since the migration tool moves ND project code into different jato
packaging structure, you sometime need to adjust imports in non-project
classes that previously imported ND project specific packages)
So you see, you are not limited to one set of rules at all. Just be careful
to keep track of your backups (the regexp tool provides several options in
its Expert Properties related to back up strategies).

Essentially,

either need to convert these utilities to Models themselves or
keep the
utilities as is and simply use the
RequestManager.getRequestContext.getModelManager().getModel()
to statically access Models.
For CSpSelect.executeImmediate() I have an example of customhelper
method
as a replacement whicch uses JDBC results instead of
CSpDBResult.

In the present ND project we have lots of utility classes.
These
classes in diffrent directory. Not part of nd pages.
In these classes we access the dataobjects and do themanipulations.
So we access dataobjects directly like
CSpider.getDataObject("do....");
and then execute it.
Since the migration tool does not do much of conversion forthese
utilities we have to do manually.
My question is Can we access the the models in the postmigration
sameway or do we need requestContext?
We have lots of utility classes which are DataObjectintensive. Can
someone suggest a better way to migrate this kind of code.

How to set the camera behavior target ?

Hi, guys:
I am sorry to aks this quesion. I know it must be very basic quesion, but I have been search the anwser for a while.
I don't know if it's wrong key word or what, but I just can't find my way to setting the camera target.
I want to use the camera behavior, but the target is none, and I just don't konw how to set the target to the object I want.
Is there anynone can help me with this newbie quesion? Or give me a direction to read?

just drag the target/object into that tiny square ...
but your project actually doesn't list any target-objects.
or should the word 'target' be the target?
than drag that into the tiny box .....

Hi There Y'all,
I have recently downloaded MacKeeper. It ran OK for a bit, but has recently stopped allowing Internet security updates and switching on of the internet protection options.
Asked for help at MacKeeper. Their initial advice did not work, so a very nice technician was going to remotely attempt to fix the issue.
He however needed/still needs access to Terminal, a to me unbeknown Utility feature of my MacBook pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
While attempting to open Terminal the following came up
You are not authorised to run this application.
The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value.
Did do a diskverify permission and repair and restart.
Did check my admin settings in advanced options and have the /bin/bash.
Any advice anyone.

After finally localing private/etc/shells through Go>Go to folder and replacing the empty shells with the shells~orig I have permission again to open Terminal. Thanks. Another step.
(Why though can't I access /private/etc/... through Finder's search?)
Should work but the file or folder needs to exists to access it. If you typed in /private/etc/shells and the file wasn't there there's no place to access. Certainly /private/etc was there so that would have worked.
So what will happen by inputting the lines
ls -Fvl /bin/bash
ls -Fvl /etc/shells
more /etc/shells
into Terminal?
Basically to find out what you already seemed to find out. The first command was to display owner, group, and permissions of /bin/bash and to tell me whether it still existed.
Similarly for /etc/shells.
And the last command would have just displayed what was in /etc/shells.
By the way /private/etc and /etc are the same folder.
