Photographs – sub-folders, captions, display by name possible?

I have about 3000 photos and displaying them was a reason for my recent first iPod purchase – 4G 8GB. I was very disappointed to find my photos took up most of the 8GB capacity (cf my friend’s 2G iPod) so I opted to upgrade to 32GB. Now I can display them but am find the ways to organize/access photos on the ipod are rather limited compared with the many options available for music. Perhaps I have overlooked some options?
Questions
1. Folders: On my PC I have photos organized in folders & sub-folders but when I import these to my ipod the sub-folders are not recognized and all photos get put together in the top folder. Is there a way to create sub-folder viewing on the ipod?
2. Captions: On my PC I have added a caption for each photo but on the ipod I can’t view these. Any way to do this?
3. Display: It seems within a folder photos are automatically imported by date picture was taken. I’d prefer to import by Name. Any way to do this?

I can't answer the captions or display by name questions (yet), but I found the answer to the sub-folder issue. Turns out that iTunes fails if there's more than one layer of sub-folder, and rather than creating 'albums', it puts all photos into your Photo Library. 'Images' sub-folders not displaying

After doing some tweaking to my project, all of a sudden the
'Image' sub-folders that held all of my images have disappeared.
I had setup a custom 'Image' direcrtory structure matching
the structure defined for the HTML project files, each with a
sub-folder labelled 'Image'. It worked, basically, like this:
Images (main images folder in project)
> Reference > Images > (all images added to
'Reference' area of help)
When I check the folder structure in Windows Explorer, the
'Reference > Image' sub-folder is still present, and all images
are accounted for, but it just won't show up in the project...
I've tried re-adding the 'Reference' folder to the main
'Images' Project folder, but Robohelp tells me, predictably, that
there is already a folder named 'Reference' present...
I'm on Robohelp X5 and I have a copy of Robohelp 7 right in
front of me... I was trying to get everything cleaned up before
upgrading... Any help would be appreciated!
When I build the project, all images appear as normal... Any
idea why my sub-folders disappeared, and how I may get them to
display again?

Exchange IMAP Inbox and selected sub folders not displaying correctly

Hi All,
I hope you can help me with the following issue:
We are running MS Exchange 2003 with IMAP. Normally I connect from my Mac to the mail server (using IMAP), everything worked fine until two days ago. I began with a few messages not showing up in the inbox folder while I confirmed their existence via Outlook Web Access and Outlook running in my Virtual Machine. Following an advice I dig out in the forums (moving Mail folder and re-importing all messages) it got kind of worse, my inbox did not show up at all while OWA and Outlook still correctly display all messages. Same goes for a few of the user created folders, though most of them load correctly. I cannot identify any system why some folders display correct and others do not.
As far as I am aware I have followed all the advices in the forums (well, at least those I've found).
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have set up a new MacBook with the exact same details as I used on previous Pbk and on iMac 24 at work.
I can't receive/see anything in IMAP inbox on MacBook. I can send from the account ok.
I have set-up another white MacBook now and it has the very same issue. The only common difference is that the previous Pbk and the intel iMac operate 10.4 while the two MacBooks are on 10.5.6.
Is there a known issue with 10.5 and Mail/IMAP?

From looking at posts further back, I see that yes, there is a big ongoing problem with Mail and IMAP. But is there particularly an issue with 10.5?
BTW, POP works fine, using IMAP simply results in no incoming mail at all.

Elements 10 and Sub-folders

I'm running PSE 10 on an iMac (OSX 10.6.8). When I try to save a file under SAVE AS, when I click on WHERE the dialog won't let me select a sub-folder. For example, if I have a folder named PHOTOS and have sub-folders named TRAVEL, PEOPLE, and SPORTS the only folder that shows is PHOTOS. In Elements 7 when you click on a folder that has sub-folders, that sub-folders are displayed.
What am I doing wrong?

If you go to the External Editing tab in Lightroom preferences you should see PSE10 shown as the first or second editor.
I normally send my raw files into PSE as a PSD file or tiff with the Lightroom settings.
The sequence is:
1) Select image in Lightroom Library and press Cmd+E
2) Edit in Elements and press Cmdl+S to save
3) Press Cmd+W to close file in Elements and update Lightroom.
If you want to save in a different folder or sub-folder you need to use the export button in the Ligtroom Library.

Send email notification including file name and description, when users upload files to particular sub-folders?

In my site collection i have a document library and document library has customer folder, each Customer folder has 4 sub-folders. i want to send email notification with file name and description to group and users, if they upload any files to Particular
folder name "Final" not others 3 folders. would it possible to accomplish this solution? if yes please suggest which way i can do that.
Note: we have different groups of people, for example Team A and Team B. if files uploaded by any member of Team A, notification should sent to only Team A and specific people not Team B.

You can add your group and those other people in To field of send mail activity. Have below snapshot for your reference.

Bookmark folders that you created are in the Bookmarks Menu folder. "Sort" that folder.

Is it possible to search for multiple folders with the same name and then select them all and change the permissions on just those folders .i.e. Search for the budget folders in all client folders and lock them down to just the project managers. Without having to go to each folder and apply the permissions.

There are dozens of Javascript tree widgets available on the Internet. Some are free. Some are good. Google will find them for you.
(The only relevance of JSP to your question is that yes, you can generate HTML that uses one of those Javascript tree widgets.)

Are you just looking to find if any two files underneath a folder have the same name?
If you just want to know that a file named "whatever" exists in two folders, that's not too difficult, but you probably want to know the full path names.
Here's one attempt:
$ perl -MFile::Find -le 'find(\&w, "."); while (($n,$p)=each %file) {if(@{$p}>1){print join(" ",@{$p})}} sub w{push @{$file{$_}},$File::Find::name;}'That will print the pathnames on the same line of any files with the same name that appear anywhere underneath your current directory.
It's a bit long for a "one-liner", but functional.

Sub folders for pics to be displayed on iPad?

First time post, scanned through didn't see a match.
Scenario: MacBook Pro has folder with pictures called Trips. Under Folder Trips, there are subfolders called Rome, England, New York, etc.
When I synch with iPad 2 I only have one big folder with ALL the pics of EVERY trip ever taken...there are NO subfolders displayed.
Question - Is there a way to display each trip individually on the iPad without moving the directory structure on the MacBook Pro? They are logically organized on the MacBook...just not on the iPad.

What you are describing is the normal behavior when you sync photos from a folder on your computer.
If you were to create individual albums (named Rome, England, etc.) for the photos and organize them the way you want to in iPhoto, then sync to the iPad, they will be displayed that way. You can't do exactly what you are trying to do without doing some work in iPhoto. That folder you are syncing from will not be divided into those subfolders any other way if you sync.
You do have the option of using a third party app to sort photos on the iPad - including the use of sub folders. One app that I know of is called Photo-Sort. Unless you recreate the folder (albums) in iPhoto, you will have to use a third party app.

Is it possible to display artist name, song name and bit ra

I own a Zen Sleek Photo and would like to know if there are any plans for a firmware that enables the player to display song name, artist name and also bit rate at the same time. I know that it's possible to see the technical details of the songs but I think it would be nice to see them always (like artist name and song name).
Especially for songs with VBR that would be nice

Does anyone maybe have an idea? I really would like to see the bit rate displayed (permanently).

Smart Folders: Possible to exclude specific sub-folders?

I want to create a smart folder that shows all documents opened in the past two weeks within my user folder, but I want to exclude my browser cache and various Library files.
Is there a way to exclude certain sub-folders from a smart search? I'd like to figure this out because it would be really useful to me in other ways too.

Unless you have done a little hack you should not see any files from your ~/Library folder in a search, unless you explicitly tell Spotlight to display system files. Browser files are included if you start your search from the Spotlight icon. But if you start with a search window by invoking it with Command-F that won't happen. There is no way I know of to exclude sub-folders in a search. Try this and see if it returns what you want:
1. Open your home folder
2. Hit Command-F
3. Select your home folder rather than the idiotic default of This Mac in the search toolbar
4. Underneath that you should see Kind:is:Any--click the double arrows and change Any to Documents
5. Click the + button
6. Select "Last opened date" from the drop down menu, then "with last" and fill in 2, then select "weeks" from the final drop down menu
Be aware that the definition of "Documents" is pretty much everything, from Word docs to html files, to jpegs, tiffs, text files, pdfs, and so on.

Sharing the Home folder & all sub folders

I've had my mac networked with a couple of Windows PCs for a long time. Now I've bought another mac & have networked them together. So I'm not new to networking, but am new to networking 2 macs together.
With the PCs I could access the mac Home folder & copy files from any of the sub folders (Documents, Pictures etc.) to the PCs. And vice versa, from the mac drag files & folders from within the Home folder to the PCs to copy them over.
Now as I understand it networking between macs you only share files between the Public folder & Drop Box folder with the Public folder. Is that correct?
If so can I share the whole Home folders on both macs so that from 1 mac I can mount the other mac's Home folder, send files & folders to the other Mac & also copy files over from the other macs Home folder?
I'm guessing this is possible. I went to 'Get Info' on the Home folder & it looks like if I set permissions so they are as follows:
Owner: 'my name'
Access: Read & Write
Group: admin or 'my name'
Access: Read & Write
Others: Read & Write
Then clicking on 'Apply to enclosed items' it should work as I want? Or Shouldn't I be messing with the permissions? If not is there another way for me to achieve what I want to do?

Sorry, I should have said that this is how I've been trying to do it.
I can mount both Home folders on both computers & browse them. But when I try to copy files from 1 location to the other I get error messages saying:
'The operation cannot be completed because you do no have sufficient priveliges for the some of the items'.
Having said that some items will copy over even after receiving the priveliges message. But it's very annoying having it pop up every time.
