Photography and Podcasting

There's only a few apps I miss that were available on my unlocked iPhone EDGE compared to my iPhone 3G. One of them being the ability to record video and the other the ability to use digital zoom for the camera. My hope is that either the same developers port their application to Apple's App Store otherwise for Apple to develop something similar which allows exporting as a podcast for sharing between family, friends, etc.

I just received an email from a developer at http://www.iphonevideorecorder.com/ that said he's just waiting on Apple to approve this app for the iPhone App Store. Hopefully it gets approved before my trip to Hong Kong as I'd really enjoy capturing the vacation with video and not just pictures.

ITunes plays videos and podcasts when I click on music.

Hi all I have a problem.
when i click on music in the left menu. I notice when playign through my music set to randome that i get all media including podcasts, mpe books and other things that i woul dnot expect to be showing. I just want to randomly cycle through my music not listen to the books and podcasts etc.
is there a way to resove this issue.
OS: OSX 10.9.2, Mavericks
Itunes: 11.1.5 (s) 64-bit

Edit: A good way to fix this would be able to select the type of media so it shows up in the right place. eg when importing or editing the album, file, cd podcast etc be able to select what type of media it is eg music, video, podcast, books and have the catogries show. only in what is selected. I have not come accross this feature.

I have Photoshop CS5. When I tried to edit my images in raw I received an error message stating, "The photoshop camera raw plug-in did not recognize the format. If these files are from a camera, you may need to update your camera raw plug in."

Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.

That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.

It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.

How can I sync both Music files and Podcasts to my Ipod shuffle 4th gen?

I have been trying to do this for a very long time. I own an Ipod shuffle 4th generation and I want to be able to listen to music, podcasts, etc without having to switch between the different formats using Itunes. Everytime I try to sync music and podcasts to my Ipod, it will only play one of the two types but not both. I have plenty of space on my Ipod but it just won't sync music and podcasts together. I have tried using Smart playlists but whenever I try to add the different types of media, it shows nothing in the playlist. Any help with this would be appreciated.

If you are using automatic syncing, you need to set up syncing on the shuffle's Music tab and Podcasts tab in iTunes...
Select your shuffle in iTunes. There is a bar of "tabs" (starting with Summary).
Click on Music there. This Music tab is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the shuffle. Sync Music is checkmarked, if you use automatic syncing. Your entire iTunes Music library (plus podcasts) probably will not fit, so you can select to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Below that, make a selection of songs to sync by checkmarking playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres. For example, if you want to keep it simple, create a new playlist in iTunes and put ALL songs you want on the shuffle on that playlist. Back on the Music tab, find and checkmark only that one playlist under Playlists as your selection of songs.
Click on the Podcasts tab next. This is where you tell iTunes how to sync podcasts to the shuffle. Sync Podcasts is checkmarked. Make you selection of podcast episodes below.
When you click Apply, your selection of songs and podcasts sync to the shuffle. Going forward, all changes to your iTunes library that relate to your selection on the two tabs sync automatically when you connect the shuffle, or when you click Sync.
When you use the shuffle, podcasts do not play from the default All Songs list. To play podcast episodes, you use the VoiceOver feature to select the podcast from the playlist menu.

You can also play podcast episodes from a playlist. If you put podcast episodes on a playlist, that playlist needs to be checkmarked on the Podcasts tab, where is says Include Episodes from Playlists. You can then use VoiceOver to select that playlist from the playlist menu. To play podcast episodes from a playlist, the shuffle's power switch must be in the play-in-order (middle) position. The podcast episodes will then play in playlist order (as you organized them in iTunes before syncing).

iTunes loses my entire library with artwork, playlists and podcasts every time I close the program. Upon restarting it takes at least 15 minutes to rebuild the library and podcasts and a lot longer to replace the artwork, I also lose playlists. I would really welcome some feedback and assistance here and am losing faith in the Apple product. Since iTunes has been updated to version 11 it seems to have caused a lot of issues for many people. I am hopeful of a reply and a resolution. I have approx. 1200 albums at just under 90 Gb. Thanks in advance for any help.

Ditch AVG (at this stage it really does seem to be the problem for some people) and install Microsoft Security Essentials...

My iphone 4s deleted all of my books, music, and podcasts from my phone and now will not allow me to put them back on there.

As stated in the title, I was redownloading old purchases. After transferring a tv show onto my iphone it would not allow me to transfer another one. I wasn't able to locate the show on my phone, so then I checked my music. All of my music and podcasts were missing. My books were showing up at first, but then as soon as I closed out of one that I was reading and clicked on a different one they all vanished as well. I tried dragging on a song, a book, a show, and I kept getting the circle with the line through it. I have no idea what to do. My phone has always been set up to manually manage music and videos. When I selected to sync all music it still wouldn't do anything.
I've also recently, within the past 4 hours, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes because it kept crashing when I was trying to download my old purchases. I've done it before and haven't had any issues with it deleting anything before. I'm in the process of restoring my phone in the hopes that this will work, but I don't know if it will.
Anyone out there that can help me?

iPhone 3G is Old technology. When it was launched it had iOS 2.0. Currently, the highest it can go is iOS 4.2.1 and therefore can not handle many newer applications. As you have recorded, it is giving good service for which it has been designed.
Needless to say, if you want to use applications as stated, you must have at least 3GS, whose current is iOS 6.1.2. On the lighter side; Rather than updating iOS they are asking you to update iPhone (Technology). Cheers

So glad I updated. NOT.

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

ITunes 7 and podcasts

I've updated to iTunes 7, and since then my podcasts won't shuffle with my songs. When I create a playlist (or even a smart playlist) of both songs and podcasts, still only the songs play. Any ideas on how I can get my podcasts and my songs to shuffle together?

Marking as answered just to get it out of my "unresolved questions" folder. I did fix it a long time ago by selecting all, getting info, and unchecking "skip when shuffling."

Transferring Library and Podcast List from One Computer to Another

IPOD Classic.
I have set up Itunes on Compaq XP laptop and have my library and Podcast subcription list on it.
NOw I have a new desktop Gateway with Vista and have downloaded the itunes program from the apple site.
I desire to get everything from the laptop over to the new computer. so that I dont have to go and resubcribe to all of the podcasts on the new computer,and so that I dont have to try to figure out how to resave everything on ipod to current Vista computer.
How do I accomplish the above?
When I plug Ipod into new computer it asks me if I want to erase and sync to the new Itunes on new computer but it doesnt ask me if I want to transfer from current Ipod anything to the new computer.
Is there a file on the old computer that I can find that stores all the info and just transfer it over using a USB or an external Hard Drive.

I'm having a similar problem, however my old computer died. I cannot get access to it. I'm trying to get my old itunes library associated with my new computer now, but it seems like I need to have access to my old computer? Is there any way to transfer my library to my new computer without needing to access the old one?

Sync problems with music and podcasts

Hi there,
whenever I put new content to the music playlists or I got new podcasts loaded down by iTunes to sync them to the iPhone, the first sync process breaks down. The iPhone applies again after 10 seconds in a locked condition so I have to unlock it fisrt to keep on syncing.
I always have to sync twice to get a result. For example, to get new songs to the iPhone, first I have to put the songs on the iTunes playlist, then I have to sync with a disabled checkbox at "music" (the complete music will be erased at the iPhone) and then I have to sync again with an enabled checkbox (complete music will be sync comletely new at the iPhone).
It takes a lot of time to do the sync process in this way, can anybody help me? Am I doing something wrong?

Another user recently reported a similar problem and it turned out to be an issue with email.
What I would do would be to turn off all syncing except for music and podcasts, reset your phone (perhaps even restore) and try the sync and see if it works. If it does at least you can narrow it down to something other than music and podcasts.

RSS XML Files for a Blog and Podcast on Same Website With iTunes Feed

Does iWeb support both a separate blog and podcast on the same website feeding the Podcast to iTunes? I got my podcast going on iTunes, then it stopped working after I changed the iTunes podcast name in iWeb and didn't edit the xml file. My podcast is gone on iTunes and I can't get the xml files correct for the blog or the podcast. I'm submitting the correct URL to iTunes but iTunes continues generarting 404 errors.

In the podcast playing screen there is a box on the left just under the scrubber bar. It has a 1/2X. 1X or 2X. Those are the playback speeds. Tap on the box to cycle through and change the playback speed.

Books on digital photography and iphoto

Hi,
Looking for a Christmas present for my dad - he's just got his first digital camera (at the age of 87...) and a new Macbook.
I'm looking for a good book that will take him through the basics of taking pictures, then having fun in iPhoto. But every one on digital photography I've found so far seems to assume you'll be using Photoshop, and all the ones on iPhoto assume you can already take photographs!
Anyone know of any books that do the basics of photography and iPhoto in one?

The best feature of digital photography is that you can shoot as much as you like and delete poorly composed images.
Get a tripod for the camera and your dad can just start shooting away (after reading the camera manual).
After twenty shots his "aim" will improve. After 50 shots he'll start thinking of composition prior to shooting. After 100 shots he'll start making adjustments to the camera settings (off automatic).
Get some rechargeable batteries and a charger so he can swap bad for good. I use a great "15 minute" version from Energizer.
As for iPhoto and the new computer:
Buy a book if you think it will help
Or connect the camera to the new Mac and watch iPhoto gather them in.
Once in iPhoto he can make additional edits (probably not needed) and make a slide show. He'll be telling all his friends to get a Mac and a camera.
I'm not suggesting your dad is too old to learn and a good book at Christmas is a treat. But I'll bet he would like a good novel over a complicated subject as digital photography.
Play, shoot, capture and create. Life's too short to read a manual.

Moving playlists and podcast to new machine

How can I move all of my iTunes playlists and podcasts to my new machine? is there any way of keeping all of the settings the same? thank you.

Found that Apple's _Mac OS X Advanced System Administration v10.5_ book says that cloning works to migrate between machines. Boot from install DVD after cloning and run disc's upgrade. PPC to Intel requires special consideration - recommended to archive old, demote to stand alone, promote, and finally restore from archive.
If anyone has any experience with this, please report how it worked for you.
