Photomerge CS5 vs CS3

I upgraded to CS5 a while ago but did not have an opportunity to work with CS5's photomerge.  In CS3 I used either Automatic or Interactive.  In CS5 both appear to be "broken".  I tested this be using the same images I used to make the CS3 panos in CS5.  This test used images from the NASA Apollo archive (
http://www.apolloarchive.com/apollo_gallery.html ) where I had copied some Apollo 17 images to merge into a pano.  Automatic split them and gave me two rows of images.Used the same images for the CS5 Reposition and Reposition moved the images around and I could not modify their locations.  I tried it again and then the images moved down on one end.  Images attached below.
Is it possible to get the routines back from CS3?  I found the interactive one the most useful and the Automatic was much more robust.
CS3 Interactive Image
CS5 Automatic
CS5 Repositon

Okay, I managed to download a number of "pan" images from that site, though not the ones you used specifically.
One of the issues is that things are changing between frames, because the astronaut doing the shooting didn't rotate the camera around one spot perfectly, or because things like his own shadow moved between frames.
The above was on Automatic, and you can clearly see that it chose Cylindrical for the top set and Perspective for the bottom set.
I'm going to experiment some more.  Maybe I can think of some ways, such as pre-processing the images through Camera Raw to normalize the exposures better or downsizing or something to help Photooshop better find the commonalities between the frames.

  • Opening CS5 in CS3 outlines fonts COOP Heavy

Am preparing to update an agency from CS3 to CS5.5. Finding that saving a Illustrator CS5.1 files down to CS3 outlines one of the fonts that had appearance attributes(all from the top half Ilustrator Effects). They own the font, and I tried with both PDF On and Off(notice blue bubbles at bottom) and got outlined font for Coop Heavy.
As a test I set Coop Heavy all by itself on a fresh page, and it went over.
Anyone know how I can save  CS5 to CS3 and not get outlined fonts? Any tips for updating an agency to CS5.1 anyone has found?

I progressivley dummied down the logo, and it appears that offset path is one thing that causes CS5 to CS3 to outline type.
Anyone else out there opening CS5 files in CS4 or 3 and finding loss of editablility in files, or a solution for this? Prepress houses are always asking us to save down to CS3, so must be people who know more about this. When you place CS5 files in CS3 seems all font gets oultined. Anyone find any way to stop fonts getting outlined? Before I start rolling out CS5, I need to develop a plan to cause minimum interruption to workflow.

  • Looking to upgrade to CS5 from CS3

HI everyone! I'm looking to upgrade to CS5 from CS3 Master Collection. Is there an easy way of doing this? I have zero interest in anything cloud related or CS6. thanks so much in advance!

As said by Brett already, you can no longer get CS5 or below from Adobe.
If by any chance, you make your mind to get CS6, Here is where you can get it. Creative Suite 6

  • Work flow issue (CS5 vs CS3)

We recently upgraded to CS5 from CS3.
After a new Incopy CS5 document is flowed in to InDesign CS5 we are having an issue opening that document again in InCopy CS5.  When double clicking on it on the server the default program to open it is InCopy CS3 even though no CS3 program has ever touched the document.
Is there a default setting that needs to be changed to make the default program CS5 Incopy?
    Thanks.

Try clicking on the the little hand icon in the top left hand corner of the CS5 Curves dialog - then you get an eyedropper for your cursor and as you run this over the image you will see the little ball move up and down the diagonal line in curves. To place a point on the composite RGB curve, simply click. To place a point on all 3  R,G, and B curves you Ctrl+Shift+click.

  • INDD CS5 to CS3

I've read the post on how to save from CS5 to CS4 and I've saved the file to a ".idml" file but cannot open it in CS3. We upgraded from CS3 directly to CS5, any suggestions on saving from CS5 to CS3? - Thanks

    You're SOL.
A hack to get from CS4 to CS2 was published http://indesignsecrets.com/double-downsave.php
I'd look into getting a version of CS4 really quick, but I would not expect it is available as CS5 has been released. A call to Adobe may be the only recourse. (Pack a lunch for that call)
Several persons here would save a CS5 inx or inml to CS4 and supply a CS4 inx for CS3, but that is going to be laborsome if you need to keep many files CS3 compatible.
From here forth, never overwrite your CS3 files, rename them soon, apply a write only attribute, whatever it takes if you will need compatibility.

  • CS5 vs CS3 with XML

We're on the cusp of switching from CS3 to CS5 and just received a request to do layout from XML files.
I know very little of XML and how to deal with it in InD and will be doing a crash course over the next two weeks, I'm also far more familiar with CS3 both (layout and scripting) than CS5.
Are there any worth while advantages to working with the XML in CS5 over CS3?
    Many thanks,
    Ken

We have an existing set of sample pages for a series. The client is trying to find the best way to get the back list of the series to the web as well as prepared for traditional book printing and are testing some things, one of which is having the content created and tagged in XML and trying to use that for both getting the product to the web and prepared in InDesign for printing.
So, we have an existing InDesign file that should have all the styles to lay the books out and newly created XML files that we have to import into InDesign.
I'm going to try looking in to the evaluateXPathExpression and try to determine how helpful it might be. Maybe that will make it worth moving to CS5 ASAP.
The looking I've done over the last couple of days has pretty much confirmed your initial assessment of a "world of hurt." Oy.
    Thanks,
    Ken

  • Photomerge CS5 not as smooth as CS3?

I am having problems with Photomerge in CS5 EX. I am creating a pano with 9 jpg images using auto align. When PS has merged the images I can see all of the transitions. Hard lines almost no blending. I took the same photos and opened them in CS3 and they blended nicely. Almost no work needed to be done other than crop.
Back to CS5>automate>photomerge>blend images together >OK
Bad results again. This time parts of image are not even aligned. Boat cut in half etc. Too much work even for the spot healing brush. Content aware only works in very small areas.
    Thank you for your help

  • Just upgraded to PS CS5 from CS3 and LR will not recognize CS5 as external editor

I just upgraded from PS CS3 to CS5 then uninstalled CS3.  LR 2.7 is not recognizing PS (CS5) as the default external editor and I don't get the "edit as smart object in PS", "Open as layers in Photoshop", etc… options  when I right-click an image and select "edit in" as they are now greyed out.  I've tried to repair LR and reinstall but nothing makes it recognize PS CS5 as the default external editor.  Any ideas?  Thx in advance.

I ended up reinstalling CS5 and that solved the problem with one exception.  It is now the default external editor and I have the option to export to PS as a smart object - However, I do not have the options to export to PS in layers or export to PS as Photomerge or Export to PS as HDR.  I did have these options with CS3.

  • Photomerge CS5 doesn't work

Just try the Photoshop CS5 Trial after working with the CS3 ver.
When I try to merge images with the photomerge workflow, it seems that everything working just fine, but after the processing bar shows that the photomerge finished - nothings happen.
The process just ends & there is no panorama, only the same 3 source images I used.
    Any suggestions ?

Anyone who shoot panoramas on a regular basis (at least without a tripod) have experienced flaws in the stitching, meaning blurry and unaligned segments.
That's odd, because I do personally shoot a lot of panos (never using a tripod) and I just don't experience those flaws.  I wonder if differences in subject material, workflow, or even resource shortages could cause the software to fail in minor ways and produce less than perfect results.  I've just not had the kinds of problem with the thing you describe, and I'm fairly critical about my results.
Just as a challenging example, late last year I took photos from all around the observation tower at Clingman's Dome in Smoky Mountains National Park.  I wasn't even standing in the same place for each shot, and every shot was handheld - 14 in all, with maybe 1/3 overlap.  Camera and lens:  Canon EOS-40D at ISO 100, 1/125 second, Canon 28-135 zoom at 28mm, f/7.1.
Photoshop did a remarkable job making a nearly all the way around pano out of these shots just now.
This is the observation deck from which I shot the photos:
Here's a small version of one of the photos:
The full resolution result, right out of Photoshop (just flattened, downsized to 30000 pixels width, and saved as JPEG), can be found at the link below (warning, large file).  I'm having trouble finding any defects such as those you describe in it, which is a bit surprising since some of the same treetops should have overlapped different parts of the distant scenery because of my moving between shots.
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/ClingmansDomeRawPano.jpg
Here's the detail of the workflow I used:
    1.  Open all CR2 images in Camera Raw.
    2.  Select All images, make color temperature identical, boost Fill Light a little to lighten shadows.
    3.  Set to convert to upsampled 6144 x 4096 resolution, sRGB, 16 bits/channel.
    4.  [Save Images] as .psd files in folder C:\TEMP\Pano, which I use for staging panoramas.
    5.  Click [Done] to get out of Camera Raw.
    6.  File - Automate Photomerge.  Select all 17 files, and choose settings as shown below.
    7.  [ OK ] to run Photomerge.
    8.  Layer - Flatten, downsize to 30000 pixels to enable saving as JPEG.
    9.  Save the result, which can be seen at the link above.

  • Want to upgrade to PS CS5 from CS3 Web Premium

I want to upgrade from Photoshop CS3 that was part of CS3 Web Premium Suite to PhotoShop CS5 Extended. I do not want to upgrade the entire suite. Is this possible? Jack Davis said I should be able to. I just want to make sure. The Adobe website says I cannot. I think that is a marketing ploy... Can someone please help?

  • Troubleshoot windows 7-64 and OL CS5 and CS3

I have problems with OL and Windows 7 Ultimate 64. I installed OL Cs5 and when I try to record a HDV signal, nothing happens and the program freezes. Prior to pressing the record button, the scopes and monitor show the camera signal as expected. When I feed a DV signal, the program records fine. When I install OL CS3 om the same computer, I can record the HDV signal, but the monitor does not show the HDV signal. The monitor is just black. My computer is a Dell xps M1350 with core 2 duo,  2.50 Ghz, 4 Gb ram. I have disabled all start-up and Microsoft services, and problem continues. Most recent updates for video card installed.  Any idea how to troubleshoot this??

Hmm. Do I understand correctly that you see Vidblaster in the Field Monitor panel's tab, along with your HDV camera?
If so, then that's likely the cause of the problems in OL CS5. Basically, OnLocation should recognize only FireWire (IEEE 1394) devices. If any other devices are showing in that dropdown list, they are likely to interfere with OnLocation behaving correctly. Until now, we were aware only of webcams showing up among the list of devices. It sounds like you've discovered another case: Vidblaster.

  • How do I get all my files to open up in Cs5 not Cs3? File plugin problem

Keep getting error messages about plug-ins when trying to open up an InDesign file that wants to open up in Cs3 When I thought it should be opened up with Cs5.  It says that the worldready.rpln, dynamicdocuments.rpln, and conditonaltext.rpln are missing.  When I say just ignore then it gives me a really long list of things it is missing.  It says things like assignments.rpln, text.rpln, spread.rpln, master page.rpln, image.rpln, text attribbutes.rpn, generic page items.rpn.  I can't seem to change what opens the program either. I got the programs to open up in Cs5 if I went to open and then browse but then it couldn't recognize any of my fonts and put them to defaults.  I just had reinstalled everything to a new computer after my old computer crashed and I wondered if perhaps that had did something. Are there some type of setttings or plugs in I need to download or change?

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

  • Photomerge problem in CS3

I am trying to stitch together a fairly low contrast 3D rendering made that was divided into 4 sections. I have tired photomerge in CS3 all afternoon - with no real success (though it works with other files). Generally three of the 4 section blend well, with one that doesnt remaining separate from the others; or coming up with different lighter shading than the rest of the sections. Any suggestions to get it to work?
Also, I dont know much about the layer styles that result. How can I delete them to work on the remaining section?

I think I found the best solution for this file (other than going over the seams with a partially transparent rubber stamp). I unchecked blend images together box in the interactive layout, and then blended each of the 4 sections two at a time (the top two, them merged them and auto blended the bottom right quarter, then did the same to the last left hand corner bit. I had to undo, then I repositioned the sections a couple times (after one section turned a lighter shade; or had a white line between it and the section it was meant to join) ...and then I retried the auto blend. It finally worked.

  • Upgrade to Photoshop CS5 from CS3/CS2/6.0

I purchased Adobe Photoshop 6.0, then upgraded to CS2, then CS3.
    Can I upgrade to CS5?
If so, can I install the trial and later activate it once I have the key?
Since the key is an upgrade key, what is it going to ask for to verify the fact that the CS3 version (which was an upgrade) was based on a full retail version?
The reason for all these questions is that I'm going to be upgrading from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. I'd like to just install Photoshop CS5 and try it out, then order the upgrade to complete the install later. I'm concerned about an upgrade not being appropriate (1) and a need to install Photoshop CS3 completely and then run the update to CS5. If I have to do that, I may just install CS3 after my Windows upgrade.
Thanks in advance for your responses. While I did see some questions about upgrading, I missed this exact scenario if it was previously posted.

The upgrade process is really quite straightforward these days - even on a new box which has never previously had Adobe software installed.
Upgrades are as good as full versions once installed. When installing upgrades, all that matters is that you have a serial number to an earlier qualifying version handy - Adobe has given up tracing this all the way back to your full version which could be up to 20 years ago. Upgrade serial numbers can only be verified by serial numbers up to 3 versions back anyway so Photoshop CS does not qualify for a CS5 upgrade.
There's no need to install older versions on a new computer before installing the CS5 upgrade version. It's actually the full code on the disk regardless of whether you purchased a full version or an upgrade - the serial number tells the installer if you've bought an upgrade or full version license.
When you enter your upgrade serial number for CS5, the installer will ask you to enter an earlier qualifying serial number (full or upgrade does not matter). I've successfully completed this exact scenario myself several times.
The only caveat to the above is that there is a world of difference in licensing terms (and serial numbers) between a suite and a standalone version. If you install a CS5 suite trial then want to keep just the Photoshop component (and enter its serial number), you'll have to uninstall the entire suite first then install the upgrade version of standalone Photoshop CS5. Then enter your CS5 serial number then verify by entering your CS3 serial number.
