How can I transfer my iPhoto photos and iTunes library to my new iMac?

If the Migration Assistant won't do it, move them over as you would any other folder; they're located in the Pictures and Music folders of your home folder by default. The iPhoto library needs to be transferred via a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended or through an AFP network share.

I just bought a MBA and I need to move my photos and itunes to an external hard drive (from my old MacBook Pro) because they won't fit on the Air.  I got the photos moved fine and I followed an online tutorial to move the necessary files for itunes, but it didn't work.  The files copied fine, but when I tell iTunes on the Air to look at the external drive for the library, it doesn't find anything.  What I copied was the entire iTunes Media folder.  So, how do I move the necessary iTunes files from my old Pro to a external drive so I can access them from my new Air?  Whew!

After you move the library you need to open iTunes by first depressing the OPTION key then launching iTunes. You will be given a choice of which library to use. This can then be made a permanent change, if you wish, in the Advanced section of iTunes preferences.

  • How do we share photos and iTunes?

We have just bought a mac book pro and can't seem to access each others photos and iTunes via file sharing ( we have seprate user and apple ids on the same macbook)it seems to set up ok but then struggle to find each others files.. Also the iPhoto library is greyed out and unable to be added to the list- any suggestions?

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
To give others selective access to your iPhoto library, you have the option of using iCloud Photo Sharing, if the privacy implications don't bother you. The images will be stored temporarily on Apple servers.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support articles linked below.
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
There is a way to share the library without moving it to a secondary volume. If you really need to do that, ask for instructions.

  • IPhone photos and iTunes

I used an application called Phone Clean to clear my caches, messages etc as my phone was getting full and I needed to update. I used to cleaner and although it didn't mention deleting pictures, it has deleted all of the pictures.
Before the cleaning process starts, it automatically backs up. I restored to this back up however this had no effect. My phone still has no photos.
However, when I plug my phone into iTunes it says 4.61GB of the memory is dedicated to 2300 photos (which is what I had before cleaning)
But these photos don't show up on my phone? Anybody have any ideas as to what I could do? Thank you!!

If you manually manage photos on your computer, you can select a single folder only that contains photos under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences. When you select an additional folder located elsewhere, the first folder you selected is no longer selected.
Create a parent folder that will contact folders that include photos only.
Place the named folders that contain photos in the parent folder that you want transferred to your iPhone.
Select the parent folder under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences, and all named folders that contain photos placed in the parent folder will be transferred to your iPhone.
To add additional photos to your iPhone, place the photos in an existing named folder in the parent folder, or create a new named folder for the new photos and place the new named folder with photos in the parent folder followed by a sync.
To the reverse followed by a sync to remove photos from your iPhone.

  • Problems importing photos and iTunes

Have been using iMovie for years - current version 11. All of a sudden, I cannot import photos and music from iTunes into my project. It looks like it will (green plus sign and green bar) but then the perpetual beach ball starts and never stops. I have 22 GB hard drive left and should have plenty of RAM. Bad time for a snag - graduation videos coming up. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

You cannot actually sync photos to iTunes, it just accesses the folder you specified and copies the contents to your iPod. When it says it will replace all photos, it means the ones on the iPod, as you can only either sync (and mirror the contents of your photo folder, whatever it may contain) or not sync (and keep the photos on your iPod the way they are)
Also, copying them to the iPod drive will save them there, but to view them on the iPod, you need to go through iTunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photos and  Itunes library

My I phone when connected to Itunes shows up however the photos do not, my main objective is to moved photos from Iphone to Itunes library

Importing photos from the iphone to your computer has nothing to do with itunes at all.

  • Incompatiility between iPod Photo and iTunes 7.6.2.9 and vista.

I have connected 2 iPod photo with my new laptop and none of them are recognizeds by iTunes 7.6.2.9. Other iPods like my 5.5Gen 80GB and an old iPod mini 4GB and my sister's 80GB iPod classic are recognized without a hitch. I reinstalled the windows vista USB drivers for iPod and reinstalled iTunes. The 2 iPod Photo are working all right and sync OK in my desktop PC. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Does Windows see those iPod photos?

  • Changed Password but lost all my photos and itunes !  Help !

    Hi.
I have been storing my music and photos on my powerbook G4 for a year when I finally got around to changing my password (by inserting the Start-up disk and going to Systems and Resetting Password). In a burst of enthusiasm, I also then changed the name of the user. I then logged back in (with my new password and username) but found to my dismay that itunes and iphoto are now empty !!! Disaster !
The things I previously loaded on my hard-drive (e.g. applications) are still there, so I am wondering whether my music and photos are also still lurking around? Does anyone know what I have done wrong and how I can get back my music and photos?
    Many thanks !

  • How do I transfer photos and iTunes songs from my old iMac G5 to my new iMac (Intel)?

I want to move all of my iphoto library and my iTunes songs from my iMac G5 to my new iMac (Intel)...what is the least expensive and quickest way to do this?

    For iPhoto:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Two questions about photos and iTunes.

If I add the album art to the songs in my album playlists, that will carry over to my iPod, correct?
AND, is there a faster way to do this than just individually adding cover art to each file?

    Andy,
select an album using the search window in your music library.
Confirm that no other songs sneaked into the narrow selection on display.
Get info for the music and paste the album art. iTunes will ask you if you want to do this to all songs, say yes, all songs should now display the same art.
Next time your sync, the album art will be displayed on your nano

    HELP!!

You should be able to upgrade it to iPhone OS 3.1.3, if it's a 1st gen iPod touch.  This Apple article explains how to upgrade.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
You'll need to use the second method, where is says Update your device using iTunes.
Once you have iPhone OS 3.1.3 running on the iPod touch, you should be able to access the App Store and download apps.  Some apps will not run, if later versions of "iOS" (such as iOS 4 and 5) are required.  The App Store (on the iPod touch) will prevent you from downloading incompatible apps.
It may be easier to download apps using the iTunes Store on your computer, then sync the apps to your iPod touch, because you have a larger screen to view the app's description.

  • IPhoto and ITunes

    ILite9
Where are IPhoto Photos and ITunes Music stored on the HD
If I transfer to an external HD can I still see them without 10.5 not installed on the external HD
    Richard

Your photos are stored in the iPhoto Library, which is in your Pictures Folder.
    To move an iPhoto Library:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Moving iTunes Music Covers the system for iTunes.
If I transfer to an external HD can I still see them without 10.5 not installed on the external HD
    Yes.
    Regards
